TO O U R PA R T N E R S & SUPPORTERS, Welcome to our 2018 Impact Report. We are thrilled to announce that the JWRP is now Momentum. As we enter our 10th year and step into an exciting chapter, we are proud to present a new name and identity for our extraordinary movement. Please read through this report to learn more about this profound moment in our journey. Ten years ago, our founders - the Utah 8 - dreamt of changing the world by empowering women through Jewish values that transform ourselves, our families, and our communities. By unlocking the power of thousands of Jewish mothers, we are inspiring households, impacting the next generation, shifting communities, and changing the Jewish world in monumental ways. In 2018, we brought 2,800 Jewish individuals on the Momentum Year-Long Journey, a life-changing, immersive experience that empowers women and men to connect to Jewish values, engage with Israel, take action, and foster unity, without uniformity. Since 2009, we have welcomed more than 17,000 individuals to Momentum, impacting the lives of more than 31,000 children worldwide.
We collaborated with more than 207 Partner Organizations from 28 countries, and we ran our first Spanish-speaking and Russian-speaking trips. We defined our Core Jewish Values, which guide us in our MOMentum Year-Long Journey and in our movement’s growth. To foster the leadership development of our sisters around the world, we hosted our first-ever CIS/Israel Momentum Conference and an incredible North American Momentum Conference. We expanded the Momentum experience and our movement’s champions, welcoming women of all backgrounds and ages on Momentum Grand. We activated our commitment to foster “unity without uniformity” by creating a Public Council in Israel, composed of distinguished Israeli women of all religious, political, and professional backgrounds. We also banded together in times of need. Only one day after the Tree of Life shooting, our Pittsburgh sisters on their MOMentum Trip were welcomed into the Knesset for a private meeting with Speaker of the Knesset Yuli Edelstein as an offer of support for their community back home.
As we continue to grow, we’re thrilled to receive recognition from Jewish leaders and organizations that we deeply admire. Israel’s Minister of Education and Diaspora Affairs Naftali Bennett called our movement, “the single most effective program in the Jewish world.” At the AIPAC Policy Conference, we received a standing ovation for our talk about connecting families to Israel. As you explore our annual report, we hope that you’ll enjoy learning about our movement’s powerful year and our exciting growth and evolution. Thank you for connecting thousands of Jewish individuals, families, and communities to our heritage and homeland, for inspiring their leadership, and for ensuring the Jewish future. In Jewish tradition, changing one’s name is a symbol for charting a new course and beginning a new life chapter. When our matriarch and patriarch, Sarai and Abram, transformed into Sarah and Abraham, they affirmed their commitment to Jewish values and embarked on a new journey. On our flagship program - the MOMentum Year-Long Journey, we head to the Judean Desert for a naming ceremony. Our participants each have the opportunity to choose a Jewish name that holds special significance and sheds light on the blessings they hope to see in their lives. Through our research, we discovered that our community wanted a name that

worked in all languages and cultures, that encapsulated the feelings our organization had infused in their lives, and that resonated more deeply with even more Jewish mothers around the world. Our new name highlights the people who we impact -- the MOM and the MEN. At its center, the “ME” reminds us of Rabbi Hillel’s vital question, “If I am not for myself, who will be for me?” The last ten years have inspired us to rethink, relook, and rebrand. Not to something different. To something more us. More mom and more men. More me and more you. It embodies how far we have come and points to where we are headed. We chose handcrafted script to honor the unique value of every person and to invite
the warmth and joy that living values can bring. Our color has deepened and matured. Our lettering shows movement, wisdom, energy, and consistency. We are poised to begin this new chapter in our story. After a decade of impact as the JWRP, we have been blessed to welcome more than 17,000 Jewish individuals from 28 countries, together with more than 207 Partner Organizations to our community. Now, as we mark our 10th anniversary with our new name, Momentum, we renew our drive and commitment to empower women to change the world through Jewish values that transform ourselves, our families, and our communities. We are excited for you to join us on this journey.

Lori has served as the Founding Director of Momentum since 2009. Lori is a writer and Jewish educator, who has appeared on television and radio, and is the author of several books. She is a much sought-after international speaker, having lectured all over the world. In 2014, Lori was named one of the ten “Women to Watch” by Jewish Women International in recognition of her contribution to Jewish women throughout the world. Hadassah named Lori one of the “Most Outstanding Jewish American Women of Our Time.”
A graduate of Harvard University, the University of London, and The Leo Baeck Center for Jewish Education, Andrea Shlipak Mail was also a Rotary International Ambassadorial Fellow to the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. The former Executive Director for the British Friends of Hebrew University, Andrea serves on multiple non-profit boards and is also a certified life coach.
Cindy Zitelman founded CK Associates, an advertising specialty company, in 1985, and sold it in 2001. Cindy actively volunteers with many non-profit organizations, including the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington and the Youth Outreach Center in Beit Shemesh, and has served as the President of the Jewish Coalition Against Domestic Abuse in the Washington, D.C. area.
A Jewish community activist, Jeanie Milbauer has served on the board of the Jewish Primary Day School of the Nation’s Capital, co-founded the Annual Yitzhak Rabin Memorial Lecture, and helped launch Aura, a Jewish women’s networking group in Washington, D.C. She is also a past trustee of the Tikkun Olam Women’s Foundation and a founding supporter of the Hope for Henry Foundation, which supports children who face life-threatening illnesses.
Betty Grinstein is the President of Reshet Capital, a boutique investment firm specializing in helping Israeli companies access global markets. Betty is also a Co-Founder of Supersonas, the Israel Women’s Business Network in New York, and serves in various lay leadership positions, including as the President of the Friends of Ono Academic College and as a Board Member of the Keshet Eilon Music Center.
A lawyer and a community activist, Helen Zalik helped turn Atlanta into one of Momentum’s premier partner cities. Helen currently serves as a Co-President of the Jewish Women’s Connection of Atlanta (JWC), an Executive Committee Member of the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta, and a member of the Jewish Funders Network.
Dana Sicherman has worked in the field of Jewish outreach for over a decade, teaching, organizing, and speaking to Jewish communities across the world. Formerly the Director of Development for Atlantic Seaboard NCSY and the Director of Aish on Campus in Washington, D.C., Dana currently serves as the Director of External Relations for the Advocacy Center of the Orthodox Union.
An entrepreneurial philanthropist, Manette Mayberg serves on a variety of boards and is deeply involved in many initiatives that impact how future generations will sustain Jewish values, literacy, practice, and belief. In 2012, she launched the Jewish Education Innovation Challenge (JEIC) from the Mayberg Family Foundation grant making platform. Since then, it has granted innovative pilots in six Jewish day schools across the country and has led an Innovators Retreat attended by educators, funders, consumers, and influencers of Jewish education.

Mahra Fox Pailet is a dedicated volunteer for many Jewish organizations, including the Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters of Los Angeles, the Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas, Israel Bonds, the Dallas Jewish Historical Society, Congregation Shearith Israel, the JCC, Ann and Nate Levine Academy, and AIPAC. Mahra is a recipient of the Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas’s Bess Nathan Young Leadership Award, and a graduate of the Wexner Heritage Leadership Program and AJC’s Hilda Katz Blaustein Leadership Institute.
A faculty member of Georgetown University who serves as the Director of the Georgetown Leadership Program, Ellen B. Kagen Waghelstein has over 25 years of experience training and facilitating at the national, state, and local levels. In addition to serving on the boards of many Jewish organizations, Ellen is a Vice President of the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington, and she and her husband, David, established the Waghelstein Family Hopes and Dreams Endowment Fund to further advance leadership opportunities for emerging teen and young adult leaders.
Michelle worked as a registered nurse in the neonatal unit of Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. When her sons started school, she became a professional volunteer, serving on school, synagogue, and Jewish organizational boards, and supporting many Jewish- and Israelrelated causes.

An expert in the fields of search and career transition coaching, Betsy Friedlander has provided career coaching, executive coaching, and consulting services to hundreds of individuals, companies, and universities. Betsy is the author of the manual, “How to Land Job Offers: The Art of Generating Job Opportunities,” and her unique approach to coaching was showcased on NBC News.

Year-Long Journey A Revitalizing Year of Self-Discovery The MOMentum Year-Long Journey empowers women to connect to Jewish values, engage with Israel, take action, and foster unity, without uniformity. It includes a profound, personal 8-day experience in Israel, during which women explore the Jewish homeland, take in inspiring Jewish wisdom, and join a global Jewish sisterhood. Back home, women channel their energy and passion personally, professionally, and communally, and continue their journey through educational and leadership programs.

Momentum inspired Jewish women around the world to channel their passion and launch new initiatives and organizations in their communities. PSYCHOTHERAPY AND JUDAISM SYMPOSIUM Empowered to explore how Jewish insights and practices could guide her therapeutic work with clients, Sheryl Frank launched “Psychotherapy and Judaism: How Jewish Wisdom Can Enhance Emotional Well-Being.” During the one-day symposium, 80 mental health professionals explored Judaism’s views on mindful eating, healthy relationships, forgiveness, and more.
MARITAL RENEWAL WITH A JEWISH TWIST To help couples reinvigorate their relationships, Joni Lucas Shapiro created a one-day seminar called, “Marital Renewal with a Jewish Twist.” Fifty people spent the day learning how to reconnect and improve their relationships using Judaism’s simple but profound wisdom. ISRAEL SUPPORTS OUR PITTSBURGH WOMEN
EXTRAORDINARY STORIES OF LOVE AND CONNECTION
Only hours after innocent community members were tragically murdered at the Tree of Life Synagogue, our Pittsburgh women who were on a MOMentum Trip attended a vigil in Jerusalem. Together with their Israeli sisters and brothers, they mourned their friends. The following day, our Pittsburgh women were invited to the Knesset by Speaker of the Knesset Yuli Edelstein, in coordination with the Ministry of the Diaspora. In a private meeting, he expressed his condolences to their community on behalf of the State of Israel. Dignitaries and Knesset Members stopped the women in the hallways of the Knesset, offering love and prayers for the Pittsburgh community.
PAYING TRIBUTE TO A PARKLAND FAMILY Max Schachter’s son, Alex, was senselessly murdered in the Marjory Stoneman Douglas School shooting in Parkland, Florida. He was 14 years old. Only a few days after the horrific tragedy, Max launched a foundation in his son’s memory to improve school security measures and became a vocal leader in strengthening school security, preventing crime, and advocating on behalf of school shooting victims.
A MIRACULOUS REUNION During her visit to the Kotel during her MOMentum Trip, Margarita Gerzhina from Russia prayed to one day be reunited with her longlost family. When Shabbat arrived, Margarita was randomly assigned to the home of Sara and Pablo Dues, a local family who had recently moved to Israel from Baltimore. During their conversation, Margarita explained that her family’s last name originated from Tishvin, a small Russian Jewish shtetl.
As a participant on the MoMENtum Men’s Trip, Max shared his story on Israel’s Channel 10 News and with Israeli students. During the trip, Max’s community dedicated several “Ambucycles” to United Hatzalah of Israel, the volunteer-based emergency medical services organization. The men also surprised Max by dedicating one of the Ambucycles in memory of his son, Alex.

As Margarita shared her family's history, Sara and Pablo listened in stunned silence. Margarita's story was exactly the same as Sara’s father, Ilya, who had spent his whole life searching for his family, too. It turned out that Margarita and Ilya's grandmothers were sisters who had lost contact with one another in Russia. They had both feared that their families had perished in the Holocaust, but they continued to look for each other for over 30 years. The following week, Ilya landed in Israel and the family experienced a joyous reunion. Speaker of the Knesset Yuli Edelstein meets with our Pittsburgh Momentum group on the day after the Tree of Life Synagogue shooting, and expresses his condolences to their community on behalf of Israel.

GLOBAL MOMENTUM CONFERENCES: NORTH AMERICA | ISRAEL/CIS | LATIN AMERICA To ignite, foster, and propel Momentum sisters’ leadership, we hosted three Momentum Conferences: Conferencia Momentum in Buenos Aires with 100 women, the North American Momentum Conference in Washington, D.C. with 250 women, and the Commonwealth of Independent States/Israel Momentum Conference in Tel Aviv with more than 100 women. Each conference features inspiring workshops, world-renowned motivational speakers, and interactive skill-building sessions.
UNITING A COMMUNITY OF VETERANS After serving in the Israeli Army for 28 years, Lieutenant Colonel Tzahit Levy asked herself, “What now? What are my dreams? How do I want to spend the rest of my life?” In her meetings with other women army retirees, Tzahit learned that they, too, asked themselves these questions. To meet their needs, Tzahit launched Poreshet, a supportive and volunteer-run community for Israel Defense Force women retirees. Today, Poreshet has over 1,200 members.
LADIES OF AHAVA After Momentum showed Betina Salmun the power of women, she felt inspired to make a difference in her community. When she returned to Buenos Aires, Betina launched two programs to support impoverished elderly Jews. In addition to running a free arts and crafts class, she recruited a group of 20 women to deliver 250 packages of kosher canned food and dry goods once a month. They call themselves the Ladies of Ahava, meaning, the Ladies of Love.

Men?
When our Momentum sisters returned from Israel inspired, revitalized, and excited to take action back home, their husbands requested their own Momentum experience. They wanted insight into their wives’ newfound passion for their Jewish heritage and homeland. They wanted to be able to join their wives in impacting their families and transforming their communities through Jewish values. To truly make a difference for families around the world, we knew we needed to give Jewish husbands the full Momentum experience.
