For 15 years, Momentum has built a global movement dedicated to empowering Jewish individuals to connect to Jewish values, engage with Israel, and take action.

That is why we were ready and able to immediately mobilize for Israel and the Jewish people in far-reaching ways during this most critical time.

We are proud to harness our unwavering passion, support, and commitment to Israel to make a difference for our people and to make the world a better place.

P.3

TO OUR PARTNERS & SUPPORTERS

ON OCTOBER 7, 2023, ISRAEL WAS ATTACKED AND OUR PEOPLE SUFFERED UNTHINKABLE LOSS AND PAIN. OUR WORLD WAS SHAKEN TO THE CORE, AND OUR HEARTS WERE BROKEN — BUT WE DID NOT STAND STILL.

With our dedicated community of Jewish women, men, leaders, influencers, change-makers, and Partner Organizations from 30+ countries, Momentum immediately took action to form

MOMENTUM MOBILIZES. Across the world, Momentum community members, transformed and galvanized by 15 years of Momentum experiences, stood up, spoke out, and took action for Israel in awe-inspiring,

critical, much-needed ways. This wholehearted, impassioned, and effective mobilization is what makes Momentum unique across all Jewish organizations. Momentum was founded to empower individuals to make a difference for our people — and that is exactly what happens — and continues to happen — every single day.

This is the impact of our work in 2023.

2023 HIGHLIGHTS

THE MOMENTUM YEARLONG JOURNEY

Before our world changed on October 7, the MOMentum Yearlong Journey was poised to welcome more Jewish individuals in one year than ever before. The MOMentum Yearlong Journey is an immersive experience that empowers women to connect to Jewish values, engage with Israel, and take action in their homes and communities, all while fostering unity without uniformity. It includes a profound, personal eight-day experience in Israel – during which women explore our shared homeland, take in inspiring Jewish wisdom, and join a global sisterhood – and continues with a year of Jewish learning and growth.

Following October 7, the MOMentum Trip to Israel paused while Momentum mobilized Unity Missions to Israel. We’re proud that Momentum was one of the first tour organizations to return to Israel after the terror attacks, and we look forward to resuming MOMentum Trips to Israel in 2024.

Since 2014, Israel’s Ministry of Diaspora Affairs and Combating Antisemitism has partnered with Momentum to bring women to Israel. It is deeply invested in Momentum’s vision that women can and will positively transform the world through Jewish values.

Momentum is a leader in the Israel Educational Travel Alliance (IETA), a collective of immersive Israel experience organizations hosted by Jewish Federations of North America. The IETA – upon whose steering committee Momentum CEO Ben Pery sits – acts as a voice for participants and providers, works to establish standards for safe travel, and innovates in this growing field. In 2023, IETA hosted three leadership trips to Israel.

MOMENTUM FELLOWSHIP

In 2023, Momentum launched the Momentum Fellowship – a leadership program designed to nurture and mobilize the next generation of Jewish communal leaders as they strengthen their communities and improve the world. The program begins with an immersive in-person summit, and continues with virtual learning sessions.

For fifteen years, Momentum has focused on empowering individuals to transform themselves and their families –and now, we have broadened that focus, investing in our partners to transform communities to make a global impact. Our leadership program brings three uniquely “Momentum” elements to female community leaders:

1. Communal leadership skills rooted in Jewish wisdom

2. Jewish wisdom through a leadership lens

3. Experiential learning based on real-life case studies

Participants joined us from 12 countries: Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, Spain, Uruguay, and the United States.

U.S. participants hailed from 15 states: California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Washington.

FOLLOWING THE SUMMITS, MOMENTUM FELLOWS SHARED:

97% Committed to taking communal action

97% Feel confident mobilizing others to take action

95%

Feel inspired by Jewish wisdom

10TH ANNUAL URBAN ROSH HASHANAH, BUENOS AIRES ORGANIZED BY LIMMUD BUENOS AIRES

For the first time, Momentum participated in Buenos Aires’ famous Urban Rosh Hashanah event, increasing our brand awareness among its 45,000 attendees and engaging with potential donors and partners.

With our presence at this event and the Momentum Fellowship summit in Buenos Aires held two weeks earlier, we exponentially increased our presence in Latin America.

MOMENTUM IN ISRAEL

Since 2014, Momentum programming in Israel has inspired Israelis to gain new perspective on their homeland and their Jewish heritage. In 2023, Momentum Israel redefined its goals, with a focus on amplifying Momentum’s public voice within Israeli society and positioning Momentum as a leader across the country, setting the example for unity without uniformity, and the importance of creating and maintaining long-term relationships between Israel and the Diaspora.

ISRAELI WOMEN HAVE PARTICIPATED IN MOMENTUM ISRAEL PROGRAMMING IN 2023.

Following October 7th, our plans immediately shifted to support Israel’s war efforts. Together with our global community and network of Partner Organizations, Momentum Israel launched impactful programming to support soldiers, families of soldiers and reservists, and more.

On December 31, Momentum Israel, together with the Jerusalem municipality, hosted 500 mothers of soldiers — including 450 mothers of combat soldiers and 50 Momentum mothers of soldiers — for a special night designed to lift spirits, show gratitude, and bring strength while their children risk their lives for the Jewish homeland.

The event featured a beautiful video from their sisters in the Diaspora, and included a warm welcome from Vice President of the Momentum Board and Israel Committee Chairwomen Racheli Chafetz and Momentum Israel Public Council member Rachelle Sprecher Fraenkel. An inspiring performance from Israeli singer Rita followed.

ENGAGING OUR LEADERS AND FUTURE LEADERS

In 2023, Momentum brought together its global community in meaningful ways to connect to Jewish values, engage with Israel, take action, and foster unity without uniformity.

ISRAEL @75

A ONCE-IN-A-LIFETIME CELEBRATION

In April, Momentum leaders and supporters joined Jewish mothers and organizations from around the world to mark Israel’s 75th year of statehood and independence. This delegation joined the Momentum journey and began the trip experiencing the sorrow of Yom Hazikaron (Israel’s Memorial Day), and the joy of the Yom Ha’atzmaut (Israel’s Independence Day) during the opening night celebration. The immersive experience highlighted Jewish education, spirituality, and our deep connection and responsibility to Israel and its people. The group participated in special events with government officials, dignitaries, and members of Momentum’s Public Council in Israel. To bring Israel’s milestone anniversary to life for our Momentum community outside of Israel and around the globe, Momentum highlighted 8 influential women who played pivotal roles in Israel’s journey across social and digital media.

MOMENTUM IN ASPEN

In July, The Big Table, in partnership with Momentum, The Paul E. Singer Foundation, and the Harold Grinspoon Foundation, hosted an evening celebrating Jewish food, family, and values. The dinner took place at the home of Karen Davidson and featured a curated menu by IsraeliAmerican celebrity chef, Eyal Shani.

The program included a panel discussion moderated by Becca Litt of the Skimm, and included Chef Jake Cohen, Momentum Director of Engagement and Experience Adrienne Gold Davis, and Winnie Sandler Grinspoon.

BOUTIQUE LEARNING

Momentum’s virtual, intimate Boutique Learning sessions connect Momentum’s influential supporters and lay leaders to one another through the exploration of Jewish values in a modern world. Each week, Momentum Director of Engagement and Experience, Adrienne Gold Davis, weaves together Torah learning, Jewish values, and current issues in our lives and communities.

PRESIDENT’S COUNCIL

PRESIDENT’S COUNCIL AND FRIENDS OF MOMENTUM GATHER IN NEW YORK CITY

In September, Momentum’s President’s Council hosted 100 members and friends of Momentum at the Museum of Jewish Heritage in Lower Manhattan. With the backdrop of the historic Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, our supporters gathered to celebrate the Jewish future. Remarks from David Zalik, Momentum President Debbie Hochberg, and Momentum Founding Director Lori Palatnik preceded a taste of Momentum’s education with a mini class from Momentum’s Adrienne Gold Davis and Momentum Educator, Family Physician, and Resilience Expert Dr. Deborah Gilboa. Momentum’s President Council is a group of committed donors of $500,000 or more, major stakeholders, past presidents, and committee chairs who have supported Momentum at the highest levels over many years.

BUDGET HISTORY

Momentum has grown its funding each year to support our strategic goals and global expansion. Following October 7th, Momentum immediately shifted its initiatives, contributing to Israel’s war efforts in impactful ways and pausing Momentum Trips. In conjunction with a widespread shift in donation focuses, Momentum experienced a drop in projected revenues. In 2024, we look forward to resuming and expanding our trips with communities from across the world.

Event and Trip Revenue

Over 80% of Momentum’s revenues came from our visionary donors, foundations and supporters in 2023

One of our major supporters is the Israeli Government, which funds our largest program, the MOMentum Yearlong Journey. Partner Organization Fees and Participant Acceprance Fees also make Momentum’s programs possible.

GAAP-Compliant: Momentum’s global financial reporting is GAAP compliant and is issued on a full accrual basis.

Annual Audit: Momentum engages in an annual independent audit which reviews internal controls, legal compliance, and financial integrity. Our 2022 audit, conducted by Marcum Accountants and Advisors, was issued with a “clean” unmodified opinion.
