CAR OF THE FUTURE: HYDROGEN CHALLENGE WITH ARCOLA ENERGY

MAGIC SCIENCE – SCIENCE MAGIC WITH IAN DUNNE

Hosted by The Model, The Mall, Sligo 9.45am, 11.15am & 1.00pm Schools invitation only event

10.30am & 12.30pm Art Deco Theatre , Ballymote, Co Sligo Schools Invitation Event

Can Hydrogen provide a viable method of energy storage for vehicles of the future? This handson workshop allows participants to design and build a hydrogen powered model vehicle. Working in small groups, participants will design and construct their own model vehicle. Each group will be provided with a Hydrogen fuel cell to power their vehicle. Groups will then compete against each other to discover which design is the most efficient. Participants are encouraged to take an iterative approach, designing and building vehicles fast so they can see what works and what doesn’t, working out ways to improve their distance each time they test.

From Robert-Houdin's use of electromagnetism and M.D. Bodie's frightening tricks with static to the more simple but still effective "cut rope restored" they can all be used to demonstrate some principle or other, if only of looking in the right place at the right time. This science show has mystery, suspense and laughs.

IT Sligo Science, Engineering and technology departments have placed Science & Technology objects or challenges in shop windows in Sligo City Centre. Can you find them all and solve the puzzles? Pick up a map from shops or download the map from WWW.ITSLIGO.IE/SCIENCEWEEK and start the hunt. Once you complete the trail, drop your completed maps into one of Fabio’s Ice cream shop in Quayside shopping centre to enter the prize winning draw. Whilst dropping off your map why not ask Fabio about The Science of Ice Cream –If you think about it, an ice cream is actually quite a complex and multi-faceted composition – it should be solid, yet soft, and should stay that way while melting slowly. The reasons for the delicate and mesmerising nature of ice cream is ultimately a matter of food chemistry! Drop into one of Fabio’s Ice cream shops on Wine Street or Quayside shopping centre, Sligo during the Science Festival and ask our Ice Cream Scientist a question.
