Introduction

Goa, the tiniest state on the western coast of India, boasts golden pristine beaches, palmfringed avenues, flavourful food, delicious Portuguese-influenced sweets, and warm, hospitable people. Also known as the Ibiza of India for its partying. A tropical paradise of flora and fauna, from the very famous 'almi' (mushrooms) endemic to its forests, that grow only on the red mud anthills, to the solar prawns that are fished immediately after the monsoons, Goa is unique. Tourists are also attracted to Goa for its cultural heritage - from the famous old Portuguese churches like Se Cathedral in Old Goa, the 16th Century Safa Masjid in Ponda and Shree Mangesha Temple in Mardol, the legendary Arvalem or Pandava Caves where the Pandavas of the Mahabharat fame lived, to its two unique festivals Carnival and Shigmo. Goa plays host to many festivals - the International Film Festival of India that promotes cinema, the Serendipity Art Festival, Sunburn Music Festival, to name a few. To showcase this varied heritage of culture, art, tradition, food, and people, in 2015 ItsGoa was born. The main aim was to make it the premier portal for all things Goa. We were able to showcase Goa like never before. Soon our blog-based website transcended the virtual space, with the ItsGoa magazine – a sought-after resource for visitors to Goa from countries like Norway, UK, USA, etc.

In an era where fast-paced lifestyles, constant stress, and digital distractions have become the norm, the search for authentic wellness experiences has never been more important. Nestled amidst the tranquil surroundings of Arambol, Goa, DR MudBath is redefining holistic well-being by bringing one of nature's oldest healing practices into a modern, thoughtfully curated wellness experience.

Founded by wellness entrepreneur and passionate advocate of holistic living Mamta Goyal, DR MudBath is recognised as India's first dedicated therapeutic mud bath wellness centre. Built on the belief that healing begins by reconnecting with nature, the retreat offers an immersive journey that nurtures physical, mental, and emotional well-being through carefully researched, nature-based therapies.

A Vision Rooted in Natural Healing

Mamta Goyal's journey into wellness was inspired by her deep interest in naturopathy, Ayurveda, and sustainable living. As a vegan and believer in preventive healthcare, she envisioned creating a space where people could experience healing in its most natural form.

During her research, she realised that although mud therapy has been valued for centuries across various healing traditions, India lacked a dedicated centre offering a structured, hygienic, and premium therapeutic mud bath experience. This insight led to years of research and collaboration with naturopathy experts, culminating in the development of DR MudBath's signature medicated mud therapy.

Today, the retreat stands as a pioneering wellness destination where ancient healing practices meet modern standards of safety, quality, and personalised care.

Why Arambol Became the Perfect Home

The choice of Arambol was intentional.

Mud Bath setup Known for its peaceful beaches, lush natural surroundings, and thriving wellness community, the destination provides an ideal environment for relaxation and mindfulness.

The serene atmosphere allows guests to disconnect from everyday pressures while immersing themselves in experiences that promote restoration and inner balance. The natural setting itself becomes an integral part of the healing journey, reinforcing the retreat's philosophy of reconnecting with nature.

Beyond a Mud Bath: A Signature Therapeutic Experience

At the heart of DR MudBath lies its signature medicated mud bath therapy, a treatment that goes far beyond simply applying mud.

The therapy is created using a carefully researched blend of therapeutic clays, natural minerals, herbs, and plant-based ingredients, all prepared under stringent hygiene and quality standards. Designed to deliver a comprehensive wellness experience, the

The wellness journey also extends to mindful nutrition, with wholesome vegan meals prepared using fresh natural ingredients in traditional mud ovens. To help guests continue their self-care practices beyond the retreat, DR MudBath has also introduced its own range of mud masks and mud soaps inspired by its therapeutic formulations. Every offering is thoughtfully integrated to encourage deep relaxation while supporting long-term wellness through nature-inspired living.

Personalised Wellness Through Ayurveda and Nature

TV actress Shreya Kulkarni at DR MudBath treatment gently exfoliates the skin, helps draw out impurities, improves circulation, relaxes tired muscles, and leaves the skin feeling revitalised.

Equally significant are its effects on emotional and mental well-being. As guests immerse themselves in the naturally cooling mud while surrounded by nature, many experience profound relaxation, reduced stress, mental clarity, and a renewed sense of calm. The therapy encourages complete rejuvenation by nurturing the body, mind, and spirit as one interconnected system.

A Comprehensive Wellness Retreat

While mud therapy remains its signature offering, DR MudBath has evolved into a holistic wellness destination with a diverse range of experiences.

Guests can explore Tibetan sound healing, specialised mud masks, exfoliating body scrubs, acupressure, reflexology, Ayurvedic therapies, and carefully curated full-day reset retreats designed to restore balance and vitality.

Recognising that every individual's needs are different, DR MudBath follows a personalised approach rather than offering standardised wellness programmes.

Each guest's lifestyle, stress levels, wellness goals, and preferences are carefully considered before therapies are recommended. By combining medicated mud therapy with Ayurvedic principles, sound healing, mindful nutrition, and nature-based practices, the retreat creates experiences that address physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing together.

The objective extends beyond temporary relaxation. The retreat encourages guests to adopt healthier habits that can positively influence their daily lives long after their visit.

Setting New Standards in Therapeutic Mud Therapy

What distinguishes DR MudBath from conventional wellness retreats is its exclusive focus on therapeutic mud therapy supported by years of scientific research and quality assurance.

Its signature medicated mud has been developed under the guidance of naturopathy experts and undergoes rigorous testing and certification.

DR MudBath’s range of natural mud and handcrafted soaps The formulations have been tested and approved by a NABL-accredited laboratory while also meeting Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental, and Quality Management System standards, along with recognition from AYUSH India. Rather than functioning as a traditional spa, DR MudBath delivers an integrated wellness experience that combines therapeutic mud applications with Ayurveda, sound healing, and personalised care in a serene natural environment.

While the retreat does not position its therapies as medical treatments or cures, its greatest achievement lies in helping guests leave feeling calmer, lighter, happier, and more connected with themselves. The centre has also attracted visitors from across India and abroad, including television personalities, filmmakers, musicians, travel creators, and wellness influencers such as Shenaz Treasurywala, Curly Tales, and Anupriya Goenka, contributing to greater awareness of therapeutic mud bathing in India.

Transforming Lives Through Wellness

Overcoming Challenges Through Education

The impact of DR MudBath is reflected in the experiences of its guests. Individuals coping with demanding corporate lifestyles, anxiety, fatigue, and poor sleep have described feeling deeply relaxed and mentally refreshed after participating in mud therapy, sound healing, meditation, and nature-based experiences. Others dealing with muscle stiffness and joint discomfort have reported noticeable improvements in comfort and mobility following their sessions.

Introducing a dedicated mud therapy centre came with its own challenges. One of the primary obstacles was changing public perception. Many initially associated mud therapy with ordinary soil, Multani mitti, or lake mud. Considerable effort was required to educate people about the science behind therapeutic mud and the extensive research, hygiene protocols, and specialised preparation involved in creating a safe and effective treatment.

Through consistent education, uncompromising quality standards, and authentic guest experiences, DR MudBath has successfully established trust while introducing a unique wellness concept to the Indian market.

A Philosophy Inspired by Mindful Living

Mamta Goyal's personal lifestyle continues to shape the philosophy of DR MudBath. Her commitment to yoga, meditation, pranayama, dancing, plant-based nutrition, and spending time in nature reflects the retreat's belief that wellness is not simply a treatment but a lifelong practice. This philosophy encourages guests to slow down, reconnect with themselves, and embrace a more mindful, balanced way of living.

Looking Ahead

The journey for DR MudBath continues to evolve. The wellness centre plans to expand its curated retreat experiences by integrating

Staff at DR MudBath mud therapy with yoga, meditation, Ayurveda, vegan nutrition, sound healing, and immersive nature-based programmes. It is also preparing to introduce its own in-house mud formulations as skin and healthcare products, alongside an organic mud-based skincare range inspired by its signature therapies.

These initiatives reflect the retreat's broader vision of becoming one of India's leading destinations for holistic wellness.

Rediscovering the Healing Power of Nature

At its core, DR MudBath offers far more than wellness treatments. It provides a rare opportunity to pause, disconnect from everyday demands, and reconnect with the restorative rhythms of nature.

Mud Bath with friends

By blending ancient healing traditions with scientific research, personalised care, and mindful living, the retreat has created a sanctuary where guests can recharge both physically and emotionally. In a world that often demands constant movement, DR MudBath serves as a reminder that sometimes the most powerful path to well-being begins by simply slowing down and allowing nature to do what it has always done best, heal.

Pilates & Wellness Studio

Balance Pilates Studio

This experience gave her the foundation to establish Balance Pilates Studio and create the kind of intimate environment she had envisioned.

Pilates with a Personalised Approach

At the heart of Balance Pilates Studio is the belief that Pilates should be accessible to everyone, regardless of age, fitness level or previous experience. Unlike conventional workouts that can sometimes focus heavily on repetition and intensity, Pilates places greater emphasis on control, precision, alignment and an understanding of how the body moves.

Founder - Sheena Cardozo Founded by Sheena Cardozo, Balance Pilates Studio in Panjim, Goa, was created with a simple yet meaningful vision: to provide a calm, comfortable and personalised space where people can learn Pilates correctly and develop confidence in their bodies. As the studio’s founder and Pilates instructor, Sheena brings together professional training, hands-on experience and a genuine passion for helping people move better.

Her journey into Pilates began unexpectedly. She initially joined a Pilates studio in a frontdesk role, where being surrounded by the practice sparked her curiosity. Over time, she became increasingly involved with the sessions and was given the opportunity to train as an instructor. What began as a job gradually developed into a career she deeply enjoyed.

After gaining around three years of experience, Sheena completed 200 hours of professional Pilates training, along with additional training in Prenatal Pilates.

This philosophy is reflected in the studio’s deliberately small sessions, with only two clients accommodated at a time. The limited group size allows Sheena to closely observe each individual, identify movement patterns and provide corrections whenever necessary. Rather than treating clients as part of a standardised class, the studio focuses on understanding the person in front of the instructor.

Each session is adapted according to an individual’s experience, lifestyle, goals and physical requirements. Posture, strength, flexibility, mobility and movement control are considered while exercises, resistance, repetitions and intensity are modified accordingly. Even when two clients share the same objective, their training can look very different because their bodies and needs may require different approaches.

Reformer Pilates for Strength and Body Awareness

Balance Pilates Studio specialises in Reformer Pilates, offering sessions designed to support strength, mobility, flexibility, posture, coordination, core control and overall body awareness. The practice encourages clients to focus on the quality of each movement rather than simply completing a particular number of repetitions.

Itsgoa

Embrace your Balance, move freely and Elevate your movement

www.itsgoa.com

itsgoa_

Itsgoa

Through controlled exercises and mindful movement, clients can gradually develop a stronger understanding of their bodies. The emphasis on alignment and core engagement also encourages better movement habits that can extend beyond the studio and into everyday activities.

For Sheena, Pilates is not simply another form of exercise. It is a way of helping individuals become more conscious of their posture, movement and physical capabilities while building strength in a controlled and sustainable manner.

Supporting Women Through Pregnancy

Balance Pilates Studio also offers Prenatal Pilates for women who wish to remain active and maintain strength and mobility during pregnancy. Since pregnancy brings continuous physical changes, the programme is adapted according to the individual’s stage of pregnancy, abilities and requirements.

Move beyond the ordinary Sessions focus on controlled movement, posture, mobility, strength and helping women remain comfortable and connected with their changing bodies. Safety remains central to the programme, with exercises and intensity adjusted as necessary.

Sheena also emphasises the importance of working alongside appropriate healthcare guidance, encouraging clients to follow the advice and clearance provided by their healthcare professional. This ensures that prenatal exercise remains thoughtful, responsible and suited to each individual.

Movement, Recovery and Overall Well-Being

A dream, a journey, a milestone

The benefits of Pilates extend beyond building physical strength. Its focus on alignment, controlled movement, flexibility, coordination and body awareness can help individuals develop a better understanding of how they use their bodies throughout the day. For those returning to exercise following an injury, Pilates may also provide a form of controlled movement when appropriately modified and when suitable for their individual circumstances.

www.itsgoa.com

itsgoa_

Itsgoa

The same philosophy informs the studio’s approach to fitness, where the goal is not to punish the body or constantly focus on appearance, but to become stronger, healthier and more confident.

This perspective also reinforces the accessibility of Pilates. Clients do not need to be exceptionally flexible or already physically fit to begin. Balance Pilates Studio encourages individuals to start from wherever they are and progress at a pace appropriate for their bodies.

Celebrating Progress, One Client at a Time

Flow into flexibility, Move into your full potential The practice can encourage gradual development of strength and mobility without making exercise solely about intensity.

For Sheena, some of the most rewarding moments since opening the studio have come from witnessing client progress. Improvements may be as noticeable as performing an exercise that once seemed difficult, developing better balance or gaining strength. At other times, progress is reflected in something more personal, such as becoming more comfortable and confident with movement.

There is also a strong mental component to the practice. Pilates encourages individuals to slow down, concentrate and remain present during movement. This mindful approach can create a greater sense of connection with the body, making wellness feel less like a routine obligation and more like an enjoyable part of everyday life.

A Philosophy Built Around Balance

Sheena’s approach to fitness is influenced by her love for travelling, exploring new places, experiencing different cultures and, of course, food. These interests have shaped her belief that wellness should not involve constant restriction or depriving oneself of the things that bring happiness.

For her, balance means staying active, eating well, enjoying good food, taking time to relax and experiencing life.

Strong, Stable and Balanced

www.itsgoa.com

itsgoa_

Itsgoa

Strength in every stretch, move beyond your limits

www.itsgoa.com

itsgoa_

Itsgoa

Looking ahead, she hopes to expand the studio to other areas of Goa while continuing her own education through specialised Pilates training. She also aims to introduce programmes that address different stages of life and a wider range of fitness needs.

A Sustainable Approach to Fitness

Balance Pilates Studio ultimately represents Sheena Cardozo’s belief that fitness should be personal, sustainable and enjoyable. Its intimate sessions, individualised instruction and emphasis on mindful movement provide an alternative to one-size-fits-all approaches to exercise.

Strength meets Flexibility Hearing clients say that they feel stronger, move better or genuinely look forward to their sessions reinforces the purpose behind Balance Pilates Studio. Building the studio from the ground up and earning the trust of clients as they work towards their individual goals has become one of Sheena’s most meaningful achievements.

As the studio continues to grow, its ambition remains rooted in quality rather than simply scale. Sheena hopes Balance Pilates Studio will become a place in Goa associated with thoughtful instruction, personal attention and sustainable wellness, while reminding every client that meaningful progress begins by simply choosing to start.

Growing with Purpose

Establishing a studio independently has also brought its share of challenges. Beyond teaching Pilates, Sheena has had to manage scheduling, marketing, finances, communication and the everyday responsibilities involved in running a business. Building awareness and establishing trust with clients were particularly important during the studio’s early stages.

Through patience, consistency and a willingness to learn, each challenge has contributed to her growth as both an entrepreneur and instructor. Rather than compromising the studio’s core philosophy as it develops, Sheena intends to preserve the personalised approach that shaped Balance Pilates Studio from the beginning.

Women’s Health Specialist

Dr. Ashwini Kalyan Mugdyal

Dr. Ashwini Kalyan Mugdyal empowers women through personalised, sustainable nutrition and lifestyle guidance, while Nutri Bites makes wholesome, convenient eating accessible for healthier everyday choices. Article by: Team ItsGoa

Images by: Dr. Ashwini Kalyan Mugdyal

For Dr. Ashwini Kalyan Mugdyal, women’s health is not defined by a single condition, a number on a weighing scale or a temporary diet plan. As a Women’s Health & Nutrition Specialist, she is committed to helping women build healthier lives through sustainable nutrition, informed lifestyle choices and practical habits that can be maintained over time.

Her professional journey has been shaped by a simple observation: the right nutritional support can influence far more than physical health. It can improve energy, confidence and emotional well-being while helping women navigate some of the most common health challenges they face.

A Focus on Women’s Unique Nutritional Needs

Women’s nutritional requirements evolve throughout life, from adolescence and reproductive years to pregnancy, motherhood and menopause. Recognising these changing needs led Dr. Ashwini to focus her practice specifically on women’s health.

Her areas of work include PCOD management, infertility support, weight management, hormonal imbalances, pregnancy nutrition and postpartum recovery. She also regularly addresses concerns such as obesity, insulin resistance, thyroid-related weight issues, anaemia, vitamin deficiencies, emotional eating and unhealthy eating patterns resulting from demanding lifestyles.

Rather than treating nutrition as a universal formula, she believes that every woman requires an approach that reflects her individual circumstances.

Personalised Nutrition Over One-Size-FitsAll Diets

Dr. Ashwini’s philosophy centres on personalised nutrition. Medical history, lifestyle, hormonal health, food preferences,

Dr. Ashwini Kalyan Mugdyal sleep, stress and physical activity all play a role in determining an appropriate nutritional strategy.

For women managing conditions such as PCOD, infertility or weight-related concerns, consistent improvements in eating habits can support insulin sensitivity, hormonal balance, fertility and healthy weight management. Her emphasis, however, remains firmly on sustainability.

Instead of prescribing restrictive diets that may be difficult to maintain, she focuses on practical changes that gradually become part of everyday life. For her, successful nutrition is less about temporary results and more about creating habits that can continue for years.

Small Habits, Lasting Results

With modern lifestyles often requiring women to balance professional responsibilities, family commitments and personal well-being, maintaining healthy routines can be challenging. Dr. Ashwini believes that effective nutrition does not have to be complicated.

www.itsgoa.com

itsgoa_

Itsgoa

www.itsgoa.com

itsgoa_

Itsgoa

She encourages women to begin with foundational habits such as avoiding skipped breakfasts, including protein in every meal, eating seasonal fruits and vegetables, staying adequately hydrated and avoiding prolonged gaps between meals. Adequate sleep and regular movement are equally important components of her approach.

The philosophy is straightforward: simple habits, when followed consistently, can have a greater impact than complicated plans that are difficult to sustain.

Challenging the Myths Around Weight Loss

Restrictive dieting and quick-fix approaches continue to influence how many women think about food and weight management. Dr. Ashwini advocates for a more balanced perspective.

One common misconception is that eating less automatically results in better weight-loss outcomes. Excessive restriction can instead affect metabolism and potentially contribute to hormonal challenges. She also challenges the belief that carbohydrates must be eliminated completely.

Nutrient-rich sources such as whole grains, millets, fruits and legumes can form part of a healthy diet when consumed in appropriate portions. Her approach is rooted in balance rather than deprivation, encouraging women to understand nutrition instead of fearing particular food groups.

Education, Not Restriction

At the heart of Dr. Ashwini’s practice is the belief that women should be educated about their health rather than simply instructed to follow restrictive rules.

Her approach incorporates realistic meal planning, mindful eating, balanced nutrition, stress management, sufficient sleep and regular physical activity.

Dr. Ashwini with her family These elements work together to create a lifestyle that supports long-term well-being.

This philosophy is particularly important in an environment where wellness trends and quick solutions can often overshadow evidencebased guidance. Rather than following every new diet trend, she encourages women to develop habits that fit comfortably into their individual lives.

From Clinical Insight to Nutri Bites

Her understanding of the everyday challenges surrounding healthy eating also inspired Dr. Ashwini to venture into the wellness food space with Nutri Bites, a brand created to make nutritious eating more convenient.

As a doctor and a busy mother, she understands the practical difficulty of preparing wholesome meals every morning. Busy schedules can lead people to skip breakfast or choose highly processed alternatives simply because they are convenient.

www.itsgoa.com

itsgoa_

Itsgoa

PPE - On the frontline always

www.itsgoa.com

itsgoa_

Itsgoa

Nutri Bites was conceived to bridge that gap by offering wholesome, convenient and enjoyable breakfast choices prepared with thoughtfully selected ingredients. The venture reflects Dr. Ashwini’s broader belief that healthy food should be accessible and realistic rather than complicated or restrictive.

Making Nutritious Food Convenient

Nutri Bites offers breakfast bowls, overnight oats, chia puddings, healthy snacks and nourishing hampers. The products are intended for a broad audience, including working professionals, students, mothers, fitness enthusiasts and anyone seeking convenient yet balanced meal options.

The focus is on balanced nutrition, portion control, freshness and taste. Rather than positioning healthy food around fad diets, the brand aims to demonstrate that nutritious choices can also be satisfying and enjoyable.

For Dr. Ashwini, this venture represents an extension of her professional philosophy: healthier choices become easier when they are practical enough to fit into everyday routines.

The Importance of a Balanced Breakfast

Breakfast occupies an important place in Dr. Ashwini’s nutritional philosophy. She views it as an opportunity to provide the body with sustained energy while supporting bloodsugar regulation, concentration and metabolic health.

A well-rounded breakfast should combine protein, healthy fats, complex carbohydrates, fibre and fruit. Such a combination can promote satiety and provide a more balanced start to the day. Through Nutri Bites and her nutritional guidance, she aims to make this approach easier for people who may otherwise struggle to find the time or inspiration to prepare a wholesome morning meal.

Life Beyond the Clinic

Outside her professional responsibilities, Dr. Ashwini enjoys creating healthy recipes, travelling, spending time with her family and developing educational content for social media. Her interest in health communication allows her to extend her work beyond consultations and reach a wider audience with practical information.

Balancing life as a mother, doctor and entrepreneur is not always straightforward. She approaches her own well-being through the same principles she recommends to others: wholesome meals, regular movement, quality sleep whenever possible and meaningful time with family.

A Vision for Accessible Wellness

Looking ahead, Dr. Ashwini hopes to make evidence-based nutrition accessible to a larger number of women through consultations, educational initiatives and practical food solutions.

Through Nutri Bites, she also aims to build a trusted wellness brand that encourages healthier eating without compromising on convenience or taste. Her larger vision is one in which nutrition becomes an everyday form of self-care rather than something women turn to only when a health concern arises.

Her message to women is rooted in consistency rather than perfection. Health deserves attention every day, and seemingly small choices can accumulate into meaningful changes over time.

For Dr. Ashwini, nourishing the body is ultimately an investment in a woman’s future. By combining professional knowledge with practical guidance and accessible food solutions, she continues to encourage women to understand their nutritional needs, make informed choices and build healthier lives, one sustainable habit at a time.

Healthcare Provider

Thera Nirvana Healthcare

Thera Nirvana Healthcare provides integrated medical and home healthcare across Goa, combining specialist care, technology and compassionate support to make accessible, continuous and patient-centred healthcare available beyond hospital walls. Article by: Team ItsGoa

Healthcare is no longer confined to hospitals and clinics. As patient needs continue to evolve, accessibility, continuity of care, and compassion have become just as important as medical expertise.

Guided by this philosophy, Thera Nirvana Healthcare has emerged as a healthcare provider committed to making quality medical care accessible to every individual, regardless of location, mobility, or circumstance. With an integrated approach that combines clinical excellence, technology, and home based healthcare, the organisation is redefining how healthcare is delivered across Goa.

Founded by a team of experienced healthcare professionals, Thera Nirvana Healthcare was established with a clear mission to bridge the gap between hospitals and homes. By offering comprehensive medical services both within its facilities and at patients' doorsteps, the organisation is creating a healthcare model where treatment adapts to the patient rather than expecting the patient to adapt to the healthcare system.

Combining expertise in critical care, surgical oncology, emergency medicine, and healthcare management, they established Thera Nirvana Healthcare with a commitment to delivering compassionate, affordable, and patient centred medical care across Goa.

The name itself reflects this philosophy. Derived from Therapy and Therapeutics, "Thera" symbolises healing through evidence based medical care, while "Nirvana" represents peace, well being, and freedom from suffering. Together, the name embodies the organisation's belief that healthcare should not only treat illness but also restore dignity, comfort, and quality of life.

An Integrated Approach to Modern Healthcare

Thera Nirvana Healthcare provides a comprehensive range of medical services designed to support patients through every stage of their healthcare journey.

A Vision Inspired by Real Healthcare Challenges

Thera Nirvana Healthcare was founded after its leadership witnessed a recurring challenge throughout years of clinical practice. In emergency departments, intensive care units, and remote communities, many patients reached medical facilities too late, not because treatment was unavailable, but because quality healthcare was difficult to access. These experiences inspired a simple yet transformative question: What if healthcare could reach the patient instead of the patient struggling to reach healthcare?

That vision brought together an accomplished leadership team comprising Dr. K. Bino, Founder, Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Sachin Ambre, Co founder and Director, and Dr. Sandip Barote, Director and Head of Clinical Services.

From general medicine, emergency care, oncology, orthopaedics, obstetrics and gynaecology, ENT, pulmonology, psychiatry, and plastic surgery to diagnostics, physiotherapy, rehabilitation, and preventive health programmes, the organisation brings together multiple specialties under one coordinated healthcare network.

Supporting these services is a multidisciplinary team of experienced specialists who work collaboratively to create personalised treatment plans for every patient. By integrating preventive care, diagnostics, specialist consultations, rehabilitation, and wellness services, the organisation ensures continuity of care while delivering evidence based treatment tailored to individual needs.

Looking ahead, Thera Nirvana Healthcare continues to strengthen its capabilities with plans to introduce advanced operation theatre facilities, dialysis services, chemotherapy units, inpatient care, and integrated pharmacy services. These developments reflect the organisation's long term vision of creating a complete healthcare ecosystem that remains both accessible and affordable.

Extending Healthcare Beyond Clinic Walls

One of the defining strengths of Thera Nirvana Healthcare is its unique Care Beyond Walls philosophy. Recognising that many patients, particularly senior citizens, individuals with chronic illnesses, post operative patients, and those requiring palliative care, often struggle to visit healthcare facilities, the organisation has developed an extensive home healthcare programme that brings hospital quality care directly into patients' homes.

The service includes doctor consultations, skilled nursing, physiotherapy, diagnostics, medication support, rehabilitation, and long term monitoring, allowing patients to recover in familiar surroundings without compromising the quality of medical care.

Full fledged Emergency and casualty This integrated approach minimises unnecessary hospital visits, reduces travel related stress, and creates a seamless transition between clinic based treatment and home recovery.

Supported by digital patient records, teleconsultation services, coordinated clinical teams, and modern diagnostic technology, the organisation ensures that patients receive continuous medical supervision regardless of where they are. By combining advanced healthcare with convenience and compassion, Thera Nirvana Healthcare is redefining accessibility across Goa.

Putting Patients at the Centre of Every Decision

At Thera Nirvana Healthcare, patient care extends far beyond clinical treatment. Every healthcare journey begins with understanding each individual's medical condition, personal concerns, family circumstances, and long term goals. This personalised approach enables the medical team to develop treatment plans that address not only the illness but also the patient's overall physical, emotional, and psychological well being.

Compassion remains central to every interaction. Doctors, nurses, caregivers, technicians, and support staff work together to create an environment where patients feel respected, heard, and supported throughout their recovery. By involving families in clinical decision making and maintaining transparent communication, the organisation builds trust while ensuring patients remain active participants in their own healthcare journey.

This experience reflects the organisation's belief that advanced healthcare should not be restricted by physical hospital walls. Through coordinated expertise, technology, and compassionate care, Thera Nirvana Healthcare continues to demonstrate that high quality treatment can be delivered wherever patients need it most.

Technology further strengthens this patient centred model through evidence based treatment, digital health records, coordinated specialist consultations, and efficient communication between healthcare professionals. The result is an integrated healthcare experience that combines clinical excellence with empathy and continuity of care.

Looking ahead, Thera Nirvana Healthcare is focused on expanding its home healthcare division while strengthening services in palliative care, end of life care, post operative recovery, geriatric medicine, and chronic disease management. The organisation is also developing its Home Hospital concept by making advanced medical equipment, portable diagnostics, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams readily available in patients' homes. Alongside these initiatives, Thera Nirvana will continue investing in preventive healthcare, specialist consultations, community outreach programmes, digital health technologies, and remote patient monitoring. These efforts aim to improve healthcare accessibility across Goa while ensuring patients receive continuous, coordinated care regardless of their location.

Transforming Lives Through Home Healthcare

Among the many lives touched by Thera Nirvana Healthcare, one patient's journey perfectly illustrates the organisation's commitment to compassionate innovation. Following an acute stroke complicated by diabetes, hypertension, pneumonia, and severe mobility limitations, a seventy two year old patient required ongoing hospital level medical care after discharge. Rather than prolonging institutional treatment, Thera Nirvana transformed a room in the patient's home into a fully equipped medical care unit.

With advanced monitoring equipment, oxygen support, portable diagnostics, regular doctor visits, skilled nursing, physiotherapy, nutritional management, and continuous rehabilitation, the multidisciplinary team successfully delivered comprehensive care within the comfort of the patient's own home. Over the following weeks, the patient's condition stabilised, mobility improved significantly, and independence gradually returned while remaining surrounded by family.

Building the Future of Healthcare

For Dr. K. Bino, the vision extends beyond building a successful healthcare institution. Inspired by interests in healthcare innovation, entrepreneurship, travel, fitness, and lifelong learning, he believes meaningful healthcare begins with compassion, integrity, and purpose.

His advice to aspiring healthcare professionals reflects the philosophy that guides the organisation every day: place the patient before the profession, remain committed to continuous learning, and never lose sight of the privilege of caring for another human being. Through this unwavering commitment, Thera Nirvana Healthcare continues to fulfil its mission of bringing quality healthcare home, one patient, one family, and one community at a time.

The First Notes

Every musician has an origin story. Some remember a particular song. Others remember the first time they stood before an audience. For Alistair, the early years were shaped by school and college bands, cultural competitions, and the excitement of discovering what could happen when different musicians played together.

Alistair Menezes The Musical Journey of Alistair Menezes

There are musicians who perform music, and then there are musicians who carry it with them.

For Alistair Menezes, music has never been limited to a stage, a keyboard, or a carefully rehearsed setlist. It has travelled with him— from school auditoriums in Goa to grand celebrations in the United Kingdom, from intimate cultural gatherings to large festivals filled with the sound of a community finding its way back to its roots.

His story is one of discipline and instinct, education and emotion, Goa and the world. He is a Trinity College London Grade 6 keyboard musician with excellent grades, a Master of Science in Management graduate from the University of York, and a performer whose musical life has unfolded across two countries and several generations of sound. His career reflects a rare combination: the precision of a trained musician, the adaptability of a working professional, and the warmth of an artist deeply connected to his cultural identity.

These formative years gave Alistair a strong foundation. He developed confidence on stage and learned how to work within the personality of a band. He discovered that music is both personal and collective. A keyboardist can be technically brilliant, but a successful live musician must also listen, respond, support, and sometimes step forward.

His talent became visible through competitions conducted by the Directorate of Art & Culture, Government of Goa. Representing The Rosary High School, Miramar, he won second prize in keyboard at the Taluka Level Cultural Talent Search Competition in 2013–14. The following year, he returned to the same competition and won third prize in keyboard for 2014–15. These prizes were early milestones, but their importance went beyond certificates. They confirmed that his interest in music was not a passing hobby. It was an ability worth cultivating.

The Sound of Goa Abroad

When Goans move abroad, they do not leave their music behind. They carry it in family celebrations, community events, church gatherings, weddings, festivals, and memories of home. For the Goan diaspora in the United Kingdom, music often becomes a bridge between generations. Older listeners recognise familiar Konkani songs and classic Goan melodies. Younger audiences may connect through pop, rock, dance music, and contemporary arrangements.

West Coast- Igniting the stage at Goa Day 2026 It is within this cultural landscape that Alistair has made a strong mark as a founder of West Coast, a UK-based Goan band known for high-energy live performances.

multi-artist festival requires a band to make an immediate impression. There is little time to build familiarity. The music must reach the audience quickly.

As the band’s keyboardist, Alistair contributes to a sound that moves comfortably between English pop, rock, dance music, traditional Konkani music, and classic Goan hits. This musical range is not simply a matter of having a large repertoire. It requires an understanding of the mood, audience, occasion, and cultural significance behind each song.

For Alistair, the experience represented more than another entry on a performance résumé. It placed him within a larger cultural story: the continuing evolution of Goan music outside Goa.

A Place on the Festival Stage

In 2025, West Coast was selected as a featured marquee act at the UK Goan Festival, popularly known as “The Original Goa Day.” Hosted by the Goan Association UK at Cranford Community College in Hounslow, West London, the festival brought together a wide range of Goan musical talent.

West Coast shared the platform with prominent acts including Black In White, Ryan Nogar, and Macattack. Performing at a major

The audience response to West Coast’s performance led to an invitation to return in 2026. The band was booked for the UK Goan Festival’s Diamond Jubilee celebration on Sunday, 2 August 2026.

A repeat invitation of this kind is a form of recognition. It suggests that the band has built trust with organisers and a connection with listeners. It also reflects Alistair’s growing presence within the UK Goan music community.

The 2026 festival featured a particularly notable headline act by International artist Remo Fernandes & The Microwave Papadums. www.itsgoa.com

This was a premium event featuring a combination of live music and DJ entertainment. The lineup included Raagas2Riches, Altitude, DJ Skeletron, DJ Salvino Miranda, and DJ Sanford.

On 8 August, West Coast was scheduled to perform at Summerfest 3.0, organised by Reading Amigos at 3Sixty in Reading. The event lineup included Seven Notes Band, Shine On, Mark Revlon, DJ Skeletron, and other performers.

These are some of the major shows amongst others.

Music as Cultural Conversation

The Exhilarating Line-up For a keyboardist such as Alistair, sharing a festival platform connected to such an influential figure is deeply meaningful. It places his own work within a broader musical lineage—one that celebrates experimentation without losing its cultural foundation.

A Busy British Summer

The summer of 2026 brought a demanding schedule for West Coast.

On 9th May 2026, they performed at a cultural and charitable event Shake Some Aspirations – ASisterhood Event organized by Valankie Fernandes, Miss Universe Great Britain 2026 Finalist, highlighting the band’s involvement in meaningful community initiatives.

On Saturday, 27 June, the band performed at Summer Fiesta in Swindon, held at Saint Mary’s Catholic Primary School in East Swindon. The lineup included Raagas2Riches, Clayjars, Altitude, and DJ Nyllor.

Just a week later, on 3 July, West Coast performed at Evening Affair 2.0 at the Radisson RED London Heathrow.

Some of Alistair’s most meaningful work has emerged through collaborations with Goan artists touring the United Kingdom. West Coast has performed with acclaimed vocalist Cielda Pereira and with Cyrus Berne. These collaborations bring together different musical personalities and often combine traditional Konkani folk music with contemporary arrangements.

The Goa Years

Before the United Kingdom became an important part of his musical life, Goa was the foundation.

In Goa, Alistair is widely recognised as the keyboardist of Brothers in Arms, better known as BIA. The band is known for its 100% live sound, a phrase that carries particular significance in an era when performances can rely heavily on backing tracks and programmed arrangements.

As a member of BIA, Alistair contributed to a repertoire that crossed multiple genres. The band’s performances included high-energy dance music, retro classics, funk, pop, and complex jazz compositions. Through BIA, Alistair became a familiar presence within Goa’s live entertainment scene.

He performed at destination weddings, corporate events, festive celebrations, clubs, public festivals, and large-scale cultural gatherings.

For Alistair, THE JAM was another opportunity to expand his musical vocabulary, strengthen his collaborative skills, and contribute to Goa’s culture of live performance.

During Christmas and New Year, Alistair has been sought after for formal dances and festive celebrations at leading clubs and venues across Goa and India. These occasions carry their own musical expectations. Audiences want familiarity, nostalgia, celebration, and movement.

Music with a Purpose

He has been a regular performer at Grape Escapade, Goa’s premier wine and culinary festival, where the audience includes locals and international tourists. Escapade, Goa’s premier wine and culinary festival, where the audience includes locals and international tourists.

Goa Carnival offers a completely different kind of environment.

With performances at events including Samba Square in Panaji and the Mapusa Masquerade, Alistair has experienced the scale and vibrancy of one of Goa’s most iconic public celebrations. Carnival is colour, movement, costume, rhythm, and spectacle. It is a celebration that takes music out of the concert hall and places it in the heart of the community.

Beyond the Main Band

Alistair’s musical journey in Goa has also included another important project: THE JAM.

He played a key role in the formation of the band, which performed at Goa Carnival celebrations and prominent pub venues.

THE JAM contributed to Goa’s vibrant local live music scene, where bands often become part of the social fabric of a neighbourhood or community.

The most meaningful performances are not always the largest ones.

Alistair has been involved in charitable and socially focused initiatives, including the Celebrating Abilities concert, organised in association with the Goa Entertainment Association and Rotary Goa Parivar. The initiative supported children with special needs.

He has also helped conduct musical activities for especially abled children during Christmas and other festivities.

One Sound, Many Stages

Alistair Menezes has established himself as a dynamic and accomplished musician with a strong presence in both Goa and the United Kingdom. His professional strengths are clear: versatility across genres, confident stage performance, experience with international and large-scale events, and an ability to blend Western and traditional Goan music.

But his story is ultimately more personal than a list of qualifications and appearances.

From Panaji to London, from Goa Carnival to the UK Goan Festival, from school competitions to major cultural stages, Alistair’s music continues to cross boundaries.

And wherever he performs, the sound carries something unmistakably his: technical skill, cultural pride, professional discipline, and a genuine belief in the power of live music to bring people together.

Navigating Monsoon Health Risks: A Guide to Staying Safe in the Rainy Season

Monsoon season increases the risk of waterborne, vectorborne, respiratory and skin diseases. Dr Vijay Naik highlights safe water, hygiene, food safety, mosquito prevention, protective footwear and timely medical care. Article & Images by: ItsGoa

As seasonal rains transform the landscape into a lush green haven, they simultaneously introduce hazardous waterborne pathogens and volatile climatic shifts. These can significantly compromise human immunity. Dr Vijay Naik, senior physician at Healthway Hospitals, Old Goa thus explains the need for awareness and rigorous preventive hygiene strategies among the local populations.

By Dr Vijay Naik, senior physician at Healthway Hospitals, Old Goa

The arrival of the monsoon brings a welcome respite from scorching summer heat, yet it simultaneously creates an environmental ecosystem highly conducive to infectious diseases and ailments. The combination of frequently fluctuating temperatures, high humidity and heavy downpours foster the ideal conditions for bacteria, viruses and fungi to thrive.

While pure rainwater itself is inherently harmless, it acts as a powerful catalyst when it mixes with accumulated dirt, unchecked construction debris and urban gutter waste. This contaminated runoff seeps into local ecosystems and communities, acting as a primary carrier for severe seasonal ailments. Concurrently, the abrupt climatic transitions place immense stress on the biological defence among people. Frequent changes between humid heat and cool rains weaken the regular immune responses—particularly the efficacy of infection-fighting white blood cells—leaving the human body highly susceptible to opportunistic pathogens.

While healthy adults face disrupted routines, developing children and older adults with preexisting comorbidities remain at a substantially higher risk of contracting severe infections due to their more fragile or compromised physiological defences.

The medical landscape during the rainy season is generally dominated by a sharp rise in gastrointestinal illnesses.

Monsoon Health Precautions Diarrhoea, typhoid, cholera and hepatitis A are prevalent examples of acute waterborne diseases frequently reported by hospitals. These diseases stem directly from the ingestion of unhygienic, contaminated food or water supplies, often exacerbated by compromised sanitation infrastructure in rapidly developing municipal zones.

Beyond digestive tract infections, the persistent dampness and pooled rainwater create severe external health hazards. Waterlogged streets and stagnant puddles in urban potholes double as breeding grounds for disease-carrying mosquitoes, driving predictable annual spikes in vector-borne illnesses such as dengue, malaria, and chikungunya. The constant moisture and high ambient humidity also trigger widespread dermatological issues, including highly contagious fungal infections like ringworm, scabies and allergic eczema. There is an increase in the incidence of herpes zoster cases as well, due to the reactivation of the virus, which remains dormant in the nerves, nerve endings. This leads to sudden reappearance of rashes, vesicles and severe neurologic pain.

www.itsgoa.com

itsgoa_

Itsgoa

Furthermore, the modern intersection of climate change and rapid urbanization has intensified these regional public health challenges. Erratic weather patterns, lack of or poorly constructed structural drainage systems and densely populated areas collectively accelerate the transmission of communicable diseases, transforming traditional seasonal health management into a complex, evolving institutional challenge that demands proactive individual accountability.

Mitigating these compounding medical risks requires the strict, unwavering adoption of daily preventative health practices. Safeguarding gastrointestinal health rests primarily on ensuring strict food and water purity. Individuals must consistently consume boiled or filtered water and rely on freshly cooked, home-prepared meals while completely avoiding exposed street food.

Comprehensive personal sanitation, including regular, thorough hand hygiene before meals and after utilizing public facilities, remains the most effective barrier against microbial transmission. For external protection, wearing robust protective footwear is essential to prevent direct contact with contaminated mire and toxic street runoff, which effectively insulates against specialized bacterial threats like leptospirosis.

Additionally, eliminating stagnant water around residential properties, routinely cleaning storage tanks, and wearing protective clothing to deter mosquito bites are critical steps to neutralize vector breeding sites. Ultimately, while the monsoons bring undeniable ecological beauty and vital relief, they demand a heightened level of clinical vigilance.

By remaining thoroughly informed, maintaining impeccable individual hygiene, and seeking timely professional medical evaluation at the earliest onset of symptoms, communities can safely enjoy the seasonal rains while drastically lowering the overall burden of preventable infectious illnesses.

GLP-1 Medications and PMOS Are They the Missing Piece

GLP-1 medications may support some women with PMOS, but nutrition, movement, sustainable habits and personalised care remain essential for improving metabolic health and overall well-being. Article by: Dr. Joline Fernandes

If you have PMOS and have been struggling with weight loss, cravings or insulin resistance, you may have heard about GLP-1 medications such as semaglutide or tirzepatide.

And perhaps you're wondering: “Could this finally be the answer?”

The conversation around GLP-1 medications and PCOS is growing, but there is an important distinction to understand: GLP-1 medications may be a useful medical tool for some women with PCOS, but they are not a cure for PMOS.

Lets understand What are GLP-1 medications?

GLP-1 receptor agonists and related medications work on pathways involved in appetite, blood glucose regulation and satiety. They can help some people lose significant amounts of weight and improve metabolic health.

This is particularly relevant in PMOS because insulin resistance is common in the condition.

“I need a GLP-1 because I have PMOS.”

You don't automatically need medication because you have PMOS, And you certainly shouldn't feel that medication means you've failed. My approach is to look at the whole woman, not just the number on the weighing scale.

Where does nutrition come in? Whether or not someone uses a GLP-1 medication, nutrition remains important.

We need to think about:

Adequate protein to help preserve muscle

Fibre-rich foods

Micronutrient adequacy

Blood sugar management

Hydration

Sustainable eating habits

Strength training and movement

And if someone is taking a GLP-1, nutrition becomes even more important because reduced appetite can sometimes make it

However, weight is only one part of PMOS. PMOS can also involve irregular ovulation, excess androgens, acne, unwanted hair growth, menstrual irregularity and fertility challenges.

Losing weight doesn't automatically resolve all of these issues.

So, can GLP-1s help women with PMOS?

For some women, yes.

If a woman with PMOS also has overweight or obesity and metabolic complications, a GLP-1 medication may be considered as part of a broader treatment plan under appropriate medical supervision.

But here's what I don't want women to believe:
