Introduction

Goa, the tiniest state on the western coast of India, boasts golden pristine beaches, palmfringed avenues, flavourful food, delicious Portuguese-influenced sweets, and warm, hospitable people. Also known as the Ibiza of India for its partying. A tropical paradise of flora and fauna, from the very famous 'almi' (mushrooms) endemic to its forests, that grow only on the red mud anthills, to the solar prawns that are fished immediately after the monsoons, Goa is unique. Tourists are also attracted to Goa for its cultural heritage - from the famous old Portuguese churches like Se Cathedral in Old Goa, the 16th Century Safa Masjid in Ponda and Shree Mangesha Temple in Mardol, the legendary Arvalem or Pandava Caves where the Pandavas of the Mahabharat fame lived, to its two unique festivals - Carnival and Shigmo. Goa plays host to many festivals - the International Film Festival of India that promotes cinema, the Serendipity Art Festival, Sunburn Music Festival, The Grape Escapade to name a few. To showcase this varied heritage of culture, art, tradition, food, and people, in 2015 ItsGoa was born. The main aim was to make it the premier portal for all things Goa. We were able to showcase Goa like never before. Soon our blogbased website transcended the virtual space, with the ItsGoa magazine – a sought-after resource for visitors to Goa from countries like Norway, Germany, UK, USA, UAE, etc.

Rochelle Braganca

From village choirs to becoming one of Goa's celebrated singers, Rochelle Braganca has built an authentic career blending music, content creation, and meaningful collaborations while inspiring audiences through resilience, honesty, and passion.

Article by: Team ItsGoa Images by: Rochelle Braganca

From the quiet village of Majorda/Nuvem to becoming one of Goa's recognised musical voices, Rochelle Braganca has built a career rooted in authenticity, resilience, and an unwavering love for music. Known for her powerful performances, engaging digital presence, and heartfelt connection with audiences, she has never chased fame for its own sake. Instead, every milestone in her journey has been driven by passion, purpose, and the belief that music has the power to heal, unite, and inspire.

Today, Rochelle is admired not only as a singer and performer but also as a content creator whose honesty and warmth have earned her a loyal online community. Whether she is performing on stage, creating meaningful content, or collaborating with brands, she remains true to the values that shaped her from the very beginning.

Where the Music Began

Rochelle's musical journey started at the age of six in the chapel choir of her village, where her love for singing first took root. As she grew older, that passion naturally continued in the church choir,

giving her countless opportunities to develop both her voice and her confidence. However, one particular moment changed everything. Performing at a wedding as a duet alongside her choir master, she witnessed guests dancing and celebrating to her voice. The excitement, emotion, and connection she felt that day confirmed what her heart had long known, that music was where she truly belonged.

Like every creative profession, the entertainment industry has presented its own share of challenges and achievements. Rochelle believes that growth comes from every experience, whether through setbacks or success. Every performance, every lesson, and every opportunity has helped shape the artist she is today.

Finding a New Stage During the Pandemic

Although music had always been central to her life, content creation happened almost by accident. Before the pandemic, Rochelle never paid much attention to building a large social media following. Her focus remained firmly on live performances and connecting with audiences in person.

When COVID-19 brought live entertainment to a standstill, she found herself taking her music from the stage to the screen. What initially began as a way to continue singing soon became a creative outlet she genuinely enjoyed. Rather than creating content to gain popularity, Rochelle simply shared herself honestly and wholeheartedly.

That sincerity resonated with people. Audiences connected with the raw energy and emotion behind every performance, allowing her online community to grow organically. Even today, she views her followers less as an audience and more as an extended family that has embraced every step of her creative evolution.

Authenticity Above Everything

While Rochelle occasionally shares glimpses of her lifestyle, her identity has always been closely tied to music. She has never felt the need to create separate personas for different platforms or audiences.

On stage, in her element

Instead, she allows her personality to naturally complement her artistry, making every piece of content feel genuine. Her approach to creativity is equally heartfelt. Whether producing reels, styling photographs, or planning creative shoots, Rochelle focuses on creating content that offers value or emotional connection.

Every idea is guided by instinct, faith, and an understanding of what resonates with the people who have supported her throughout her journey. Empathy also plays an important role in her work. She hopes her content reminds people to be kinder to themselves and to embrace their own individuality without fear of judgement.

One collaboration that holds special significance was a recent project with Anushka, where Rochelle's photographs and song lyrics were featured on a collection of printed T-shirts. The positive response from her followers made the collaboration particularly memorable, demonstrating how deeply her music continues to resonate beyond traditional performances.

Overcoming Challenges, Celebrating Milestones

Behind every successful performance lies a story of perseverance. Rochelle openly acknowledges that managing her health has been one of the greatest challenges throughout her career. Learning to balance personal well-being with professional commitments has required strength, patience, and determination.

Among her proudest achievements is the music video Nach Re, a project that has become a defining moment in her career. Its popularity has earned her the affectionate title of "the Nach Re girl," with audiences spanning generations associating her with the vibrant and energetic song. The recognition remains one of the most rewarding chapters of her musical journey.

Beyond the Spotlight

Away from the stage and the camera, Rochelle finds joy in life's quieter moments. She is an avid reader who enjoys immersing herself in books,

Performing "Only Love," written, composed, and sung by Rochelle

often losing herself in stories for hours at a time. Gardening provides another source of peace, while her deep love for animals reflects the compassion that influences both her personal life and creative work.

These simple passions provide balance, allowing her to recharge while staying grounded despite the demands of a public career.

Celebrating Goa Through Music

Looking ahead, Rochelle's aspirations extend beyond personal success. She hopes to create exciting new music that highlights Goa's immense cultural richness while preserving its authenticity. For her, the future is about showcasing the state's creative potential without compromising the traditions and identity that make it unique.

As she continues to evolve as both an artist and digital creator, Rochelle remains committed to producing meaningful work that reflects her roots and inspires others to pursue their own passions.

Music as a Way of Life

For Rochelle Braganca, music has never simply been a profession, it has been a source of healing. Whether facing illness, exhaustion, or life's many uncertainties, music has consistently offered comfort and strength.

Her philosophy is beautifully simple: do what you love, because those are the moments that stay with you forever. She believes artists possess the freedom to create without limitations, encouraging others to resist unnecessary expectations, embrace growth, and remain true to themselves.

In a world often driven by trends, Rochelle Braganca stands as a reminder that authenticity never goes out of style. Her voice continues to entertain, but more importantly, it inspires others to live honestly, dream fearlessly, and let passion lead the way.

For some artists, creativity begins with formal training. For others, it emerges naturally through lived experiences, emotions, and a deep connection to their roots. For Goa-based lyricist and composer Neelai Manguesh Naik, music has become a medium to preserve culture, tell meaningful stories, and celebrate the beauty of the Konkani language. Although he serves professionally as a government employee, his true identity has steadily evolved through his passion for writing, composing, and storytelling.

Over the past few years, Neelai has established himself as an independent creator whose original Konkani and Marathi compositions have earned recognition not only within Goa but also on national and international platforms. His journey reflects perseverance, authenticity, and an unwavering commitment to creating music that resonates with audiences while keeping Goa's cultural heritage alive.

A Journey Rooted in Poetry

Born and raised in Margao, South Goa, Neelai's creative instincts were nurtured from an early age through active participation in cultural activities.

However, his journey into writing truly began during his Higher Secondary education, when he participated in a poetry competition organised by trainee teachers.

Around the same period, a television programme highlighting the issue of female foeticide profoundly moved him. Inspired by the emotional impact of the subject, he penned a Marathi poem portraying the life of a girl child. That moment marked the beginning of his passion for writing and revealed his ability to transform powerful emotions into meaningful words.

During his college years, personal experiences further shaped his creativity. Feelings of one-sided love naturally found expression through poetry, with several of his works being published in college magazines and local newspapers. These early achievements encouraged him to continue refining his craft while strengthening his confidence as a writer.

When Lockdown Changed Everything

Although poetry had always remained close to his heart, Neelai's journey as a lyricist and composer truly began during the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020. With more time available, he revisited an old Konkani poem and transformed it into a song, producing his very first music video.

What began as a simple creative experiment quickly became a defining moment. The overwhelmingly positive response inspired him to continue creating original music, opening the door to an entirely new artistic journey.

Since then, he has consistently produced original Konkani and Marathi songs that combine heartfelt lyrics with meaningful compositions, gradually building a reputation as an artist who prioritises substance over commercial trends.

Celebrating Language and Culture

For Neelai, music extends far beyond entertainment. It is a powerful expression of identity, heritage, and belonging.

As a proud Goan, he feels a deep emotional connection with Konkani, his mother tongue, and considers it his responsibility to contribute towards preserving and promoting the language through original music. While he also enjoys writing in Marathi and appreciates its literary richness, his primary focus has always remained on creating authentic Konkani compositions that reflect Goa's traditions, values, and emotions.

His songs aim not only to entertain but also to inspire younger generations to appreciate their linguistic and cultural heritage. Every recognition his music receives is viewed as a victory not merely for himself, but for Goa and the Konkani language.

Building Stories Through Music

One of Neelai's defining strengths lies in his involvement throughout the creative process. Beyond writing lyrics and composing melodies, he actively contributes to conceptualising stories, developing screenplays, and shaping the visual direction of his music videos.

This holistic approach has allowed him to grow not only as a lyricist and composer but also as a storyteller, creating music that connects with audiences both emotionally and visually.

His debut music video, Darya Deger, remains especially significant. Produced on an extremely limited budget alongside singer Aniket Daddikar, the project relied almost entirely on determination and teamwork rather than financial resources. Despite the constraints, its success proved that passion and creativity could overcome limited means.

Subsequent devotional projects, including Omkara Shree Gajavadana and Oolo Marta Damodara, reinforced that belief, demonstrating that meaningful art is not defined by budget but by sincerity and dedication.

As his work gained wider recognition, support from sponsors and producers enabled him to pursue more ambitious productions with stronger storytelling and higher production values.

Songs such as Hye Moga Sang Mhaka and Ganapati Tu Sarvashreshtha showcased this creative evolution while earning widespread appreciation.

Recognition Beyond Goa

Neelai's dedication to original music has earned recognition at several prestigious national and international film festivals.

His music videos have received Best Music Video honours at the Pimpri Chinchwad International Film Festival of India, the MUMBA International Film Festival, the Waves International Short Film Festival, and the Maharaja Film Festival. Among these achievements, winning Third Place for Ganapati Tu Sarvashreshtha at the MUMBA International Film Festival, supported by the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) and receiving the award from acclaimed actor Girish Kulkarni remains one of his most cherished memories.

Equally memorable was securing First Place for Best Music Video for the same project at the Pimpri Chinchwad International Film Festival of India, supported by the Film & Television Institute of India (FTII). These accolades reaffirmed his belief that meaningful storytelling and genuine artistic expression transcend language and geographical boundaries.

Beyond awards, Neelai has also received encouragement from several respected personalities in the Indian entertainment industry, including Pandit Suresh Wadkar, Swapnil Joshi, Subodh Bhave, Vijay Patkar, Varsha Usgaonkar, Ashok Lokhande, Mrinal Kulkarni, Rutuja Bagwe, Prathamesh Laghate, and Mugdha Vaishampayan. Their appreciation has served as a powerful source of motivation while helping introduce his work to wider audiences.

Finding Inspiration in Everyday Life

Neelai believes the most memorable songs are born from genuine emotions rather than elaborate techniques. His writing process always begins with identifying the message he wants to communicate and the emotions he hopes listeners will experience.

He deliberately chooses simple language, believing that heartfelt lyrics resonate far more deeply than complex vocabulary. Love, relationships, devotion, family values, social issues, Goa's traditions, and everyday human experiences all serve as recurring sources of inspiration.

For him, every composition represents an opportunity to tell a story that leaves listeners with a meaningful message long after the music ends.

The Strength Behind the Journey

Like many independent artists, Neelai's early years were marked by financial limitations and the challenge of assembling reliable creative teams. Balancing a full-time government career alongside his artistic pursuits demanded discipline, careful time management, and personal sacrifice.

Rather than allowing these obstacles to hinder his progress, he embraced them as opportunities to grow.

Each project strengthened his experience, expanded his network of collaborators, and gradually earned the trust of sponsors, producers, musicians, and audiences alike. His journey stands as a testament to patience, resilience, and unwavering belief in one's creative vision.

Beyond Music

Outside of songwriting, Neelai has a longstanding interest in acting, scriptwriting, filmmaking, and visual storytelling. These creative pursuits complement his work as a composer by allowing him to view songs through a cinematic lens.

Whether developing story concepts or crafting music videos, he approaches every project with the same objective, to create work that touches hearts, inspires thought, and leaves a lasting impression.

Looking Ahead

While Neelai remains discreet about his upcoming projects, he continues working on new original Konkani and Marathi songs that promise fresh concepts, compelling narratives, and enhanced production quality.

His focus remains on creating timeless music rather than simply increasing the number of releases. His growing body of work has also led to interviews on Goa Doordarshan and various local television channels, further expanding the reach of his music.

Recognitions such as the Dadasaheb Phalke Motivational Award 2024, the Swami Vivekanand Young Achiever Award, and his appointment as an ICON by the Mamlatdar of Salcete for the Fatorda Assembly Constituency reflect not only his artistic accomplishments but also his contribution towards promoting Goa's cultural identity.

For Neelai Naik, success is measured not merely by awards or accolades but by the emotions his music evokes and the legacy it leaves behind. Through every lyric, melody, and story, he continues to champion original Konkani music while inspiring audiences to celebrate their language, culture, and dreams.

Prajeeta Kamde

In the vibrant creative landscape of Goa, mural artist Prajeeta Kamde has carved a distinctive niche by turning ordinary walls into captivating visual experiences. Through her unique artistic vision, she has demonstrated how art can do much more than beautify a surface, it can influence emotions, shape experiences, and create lasting impressions. Her work reflects a deep understanding of how thoughtfully designed murals can transform spaces, making them more inviting, inspiring, and memorable.

For Prajeeta, mural art is not simply about painting walls; it is about creating meaningful connections between people and the environments they inhabit. Every blank surface presents an opportunity to tell a story, evoke a feeling, and breathe new life into a space. This philosophy has become the foundation of her artistic journey and continues to drive her creative pursuits.

A Lifelong Passion for Creativity

Art has been an integral part of Prajeeta’s life for as long as she can remember. What began as a personal passion gradually evolved into a professional calling as she discovered the powerful role art can play in shaping experiences.

Throughout her creative journey, she explored various artistic avenues before finding her true passion in mural creation.

Murals offered the perfect blend of everything she loved, storytelling, design, colour, and the opportunity to work on a scale that directly impacts people’s daily lives. Unlike traditional artworks viewed in galleries, murals become part of a person’s surroundings, influencing how they interact with a space every day. This ability to create immersive artistic experiences inspired her to dedicate herself fully to mural artistry.

The Art of Transforming Spaces

One of the defining aspects of Prajeeta’s work is her belief in the transformative power of murals. Whether adorning a café, restaurant, resort, home, or commercial establishment, her creations have the ability to alter the atmosphere of a space entirely.

She approaches each project with the understanding that every environment has its own personality and purpose.

Before beginning a design, she takes the time to understand the client’s vision, the function of the space, and the emotions the artwork should evoke. This thoughtful process ensures that every mural is custom-designed and seamlessly integrated into its surroundings.

For Prajeeta, the greatest reward comes from witnessing the impact her work has on others. Seeing people pause to admire a mural, capture photographs, or simply enjoy spending time in a transformed environment reinforces the significance of what she creates.

A Signature Style Inspired by Nature and Exploration

Prajeeta’s artistic style is best described as vibrant, expressive, and deeply inspired by storytelling. Her work frequently draws from the beauty of nature, incorporating tropical elements, botanical forms, wildlife motifs, abstract textures, and bold colour palettes.

Travel and exploration also play a significant role in shaping her creative expression. Experiences gathered from different places, cultures, and architectural styles often influence her designs, bringing fresh perspectives to every project. Living in Goa further enriches her artistic vision, with the region’s lush landscapes, tropical environment, and vibrant colours frequently reflected in her work.

This combination of natural inspiration and creative storytelling allows her murals to resonate with viewers while creating visually engaging environments.

Creating Memorable Artistic Experiences

Among her most rewarding projects are murals created for cafés, restaurants, resorts, and even surfboards across Goa. These projects provide unique opportunities to blend artistic expression with functional spaces, resulting in installations that become an integral part of the customer experience.

Each completed mural represents more than a finished artwork; it becomes part of the identity of the space itself. Through her designs, Prajeeta helps businesses and homeowners create environments that leave a lasting impression on visitors and guests.

Her ability to transform empty walls into engaging focal points has made her work increasingly sought after among those looking to enhance their spaces through meaningful artistic interventions.

The Impact of Art on Everyday Life

Prajeeta firmly believes that art has the power to influence how people feel and interact with their surroundings. According to her, a well-crafted mural can change the energy of a space, inspire creativity, spark conversations, and create moments of joy. This understanding of art’s emotional impact informs every project she undertakes.

The Irfan Khan

Dance of the soul

Rather than focusing solely on aesthetics, she strives to create pieces that contribute positively to the atmosphere of a location and leave viewers with memorable experiences.

Overcoming Challenges Through Adaptability

Like many large-scale artists, Prajeeta faces challenges that extend beyond the creative process itself. Working on murals often requires adapting to changing weather conditions, tight deadlines, and diverse client requirements. Managing these variables while maintaining artistic quality demands patience, flexibility, and strong problem-solving skills.

Over time, these experiences have strengthened her confidence as an artist and enhanced her ability to navigate complex projects. Each challenge has contributed to her growth, enabling her to approach future opportunities with greater resilience and professionalism.

Looking Ahead

As she continues to expand her artistic portfolio, Prajeeta has ambitious plans for the future. She aims to collaborate with a wider range of cafés, hotels, resorts, businesses, and homeowners while taking on larger public mural projects that can reach broader audiences.

Her long-term vision includes extending her work beyond Goa and establishing a stronger presence across India. Through these future endeavours, she hopes to continue transforming spaces, enriching communities, and demonstrating the profound impact that art can have on everyday life.

With a passion for storytelling, a keen eye for design, and a commitment to creating meaningful visual experiences, Prajeeta Kamde continues to redefine spaces through murals that inspire, engage, and leave a lasting impression.

Cultural Heritage Archive

Goa Familia

Goa Familia preserves Goa's cultural heritage by documenting family photographs, oral histories, and personal archives, transforming private memories into a shared community resource that celebrates identity, history, and belonging.

Article by: Team ItsGoa Images by: Goa Familia

In an age where memories are increasingly stored in digital folders and fleeting social media posts, Goa Familia stands as a remarkable initiative dedicated to safeguarding the personal histories that collectively define Goa's cultural identity. More than an archive, it is a living, evolving community project that brings together family photographs, oral histories, memorabilia, and personal narratives to create a richer understanding of Goa and its people across generations and geographies.

Founded as a long-term curatorial and communitydriven project, Goa Familia has become a significant platform for documenting and sharing family archives from Goa and the Goan diaspora. Through its work, the collective has demonstrated that family albums are not merely repositories of personal memories but valuable historical documents that offer insights into everyday life, migration, belonging, heritage, and social change.

The Vision Behind Goa Familia

Goa Familia was initiated through the support of the Serendipity Arts Foundation in collaboration with Rahaab Allana of the Alkazi Foundation. The project is led by art historian, curator, and educator Lina

Vincent alongside photographer, curator, and writer Akshay Mahajan. Over the years, the initiative has also benefited from the contributions of project associates including Christina Dedhia, Nishant Saldanha, Manashri Pai Dukle, and Divesh Gadekar.

At its core, Goa Familia seeks to bridge private memories and public histories. By collecting and documenting photographs, oral testimonies, and archival materials from families across Goa and the global Goan diaspora, the project creates new ways of understanding photography, memory, and cultural heritage. It ensures that invaluable personal histories are preserved while making them accessible to future generations.

The collective's work reveals both well-known historical events and lesser-known personal narratives that often remain hidden within family collections. These stories offer multiple perspectives on Goan identity, reflecting themes of migration, displacement, belonging, religion, politics, culture, and social transformation.

Photography serves as the thread that connects these diverse experiences, creating a visual dialogue between past and present.

Building a Community Through Shared Memories

The inspiration behind Goa Familia emerged from a recognition that photographs are not only instruments of remembrance but also reflections of absence, loss, and the complexities of memory itself. Family albums often contain fragmented narratives, gaps, and unexpected connections that invite interpretation and reflection.

Through a careful and sensitive approach, the project has created a space where families feel comfortable sharing their stories. Rather than imposing meanings onto archival material, the team focuses on presenting narratives authentically and respectfully. Trust has become one of Goa Familia's greatest achievements, allowing it to engage with contributors from diverse backgrounds and communities throughout Goa.

The collective does not acquire or permanently retain physical materials. Any borrowed photographs or objects are digitized and returned to their owners, ensuring that contributors maintain ownership of their family histories while enabling preservation and public engagement.

Exhibitions That Bring History to Life

Since its inception, Goa Familia has developed a series of exhibitions that function not only as displays but also as active research spaces where archives gain deeper meaning through public engagement. The project's first exhibition debuted in 2019, presenting its initial research and collection of digitized family albums. It marked the beginning of a larger conversation about the value of personal archives in understanding Goa's social and cultural landscape.

In 2022, the exhibition Families are Like Rivers explored histories connected to the River Mandovi, examining how waterways have shaped communities, livelihoods, and memories. The following year, the collective presented Let the Sound Linger: Awaz Gazum-di, an exhibition that investigated music as a powerful thread connecting Goans both within Goa and across the diaspora.

Through photographs, stories, and memorabilia, the exhibition highlighted the role of music in preserving cultural identity across generations and continents. In 2024, Goa Familia expanded its vision with Archive of Potential (Goan) Futures, a groundbreaking exhibition that shifted focus from historical archives to the archives being created in the present. The project explored contemporary interpretations of what archives can be in an increasingly digital and participatory world. Each exhibition has been accompanied by workshops, discussions, and community engagement initiatives, reinforcing the collective's commitment to making archives accessible and meaningful.

Stories That Leave a Lasting Impact

Among the many narratives documented by Goa Familia, one particularly moving project emerged during the development of Let the Sound Linger: Awaz Gazum-di. The team interviewed the late Abdonio Caetano Agnelo Rodrigues, widely regarded as one of Goa's finest drummers, as well as an accomplished violinist and trombone player.

Through conversations with him and his family, Goa Familia assembled an exhibition that celebrated his remarkable musical journey and contributions to Goan culture. Despite his advanced age and declining health, Abdonio attended the exhibition in Panjim and was deeply moved by the way his life story had been presented. Visitors responded with their own memories and tributes, creating a collective celebration of his legacy. Following his passing in January 2024, the project gained even greater significance, having preserved and shared his voice and experiences for future generations.

Another memorable initiative was Sacred Archives, developed in partnership with the Museum of Christian Art during the 2024 Exposition in Old Goa. The exhibition invited community participation through an open call and showcased personal materials related to devotion, faith, and collective memory. The collaboration highlighted Goa Familia's ability to bring archival practices into new public spaces while encouraging contemporary engagement with history.

Sacred Archives, MoCA Carnival, Families are Like Rivers, 2022

Throughout its journey, Goa Familia has acted as a facilitator for dialogue among artists, historians, researchers, and cultural practitioners engaged in documenting oral histories and photographic archives. The collective has collaborated with and showcased the work of numerous contributors, including Vince Costa, Clarice Vaz, Marius Fernandes, Nalini Elvino D'Sousa, Justina Costa, Maendra Alvares, Kaustubh Naik, and Rajendra Kerkar, among others.

Its 2024 exhibition, Archive of Potential (Goan) Futures, further expanded this collaborative approach by inviting projects that reimagined archival practices. Contributors explored themes ranging from culinary heritage and traditional livelihoods to environmental concerns, village histories, and architectural preservation. The exhibition demonstrated how archives are no longer confined to physical collections.

Digital storytelling platforms, social media projects, community documentation initiatives, and everyday experiences can all become valuable forms of cultural preservation. Through this approach, Goa Familia continues to challenge conventional definitions of what constitutes an archive and who has the authority to create one.

Challenges and Continued Growth

Like many community-based initiatives, Goa Familia has faced its share of challenges. In its early stages, the founders encountered the difficulties often experienced by individuals working outside their immediate communities. Building trust required patience, relationship-building, and the support of friends and collaborators who helped open doors and establish connections.

Funding remains an ongoing concern, particularly for activities conducted outside the framework of major festivals and exhibitions. The collective continues to explore sponsorships, grants, and partnerships to sustain and expand its work. There are also broader challenges associated with archival practice in the

digital age. While every effort is made to protect contributions and respect ownership, the team remains aware of the risks associated with unauthorized reproduction and circulation of archival material. Nevertheless, these challenges have not diminished their commitment to preserving community histories responsibly.

Recognition and Influence

The impact of Goa Familia extends well beyond Goa. The project has been featured by respected platforms such as The Family Museum UK, The Print, and PIX. It has also been presented at the influential symposium Absent Archives and has become a subject of study for scholars and practitioners interested in archival methodologies across India. Its growing reputation reflects not only the quality of its research but also the innovative ways in which it engages communities, making archives relevant, accessible, and participatory.

Looking Toward the Future

As Goa Familia continues to evolve, its ambitions remain deeply rooted in community engagement and cultural preservation.

Antonetta Fernandes at her wedding at Basilica of Bom Jesus

One of its long-term aspirations is to establish a permanent space in Goa where the extensive collection of stories, photographs, and research gathered over the years can be exhibited and experienced by the public. The collective is also actively compiling material for a publication that will bring together research, writings, and insights generated through its years of work. At the same time, it remains open to collaborations with individuals and organizations exploring similar themes of memory, heritage, and identity.

Preserving the Soul of Goa

What sets Goa Familia apart is its understanding that history is not found solely in official records or institutional collections. It lives within family albums, personal letters, shared recollections, and everyday

moments that might otherwise be forgotten. Through patience, sensitivity, and an unwavering commitment to community participation, Goa Familia has transformed private memories into a shared cultural resource.

In doing so, it has created an invaluable archive of Goan life, one that honours the past, enriches the present, and ensures that future generations remain connected to the stories that shaped them.

For Goa Familia, the greatest achievement is not measured by exhibitions or accolades, but by the trust, affection, and recognition it receives from the people whose histories it helps preserve. It is this relationship with the community that continues to guide its journey and strengthen its mission of keeping Goa's collective memory alive.

Recognizing the growing influence of social media on consumer choices and business growth, Devansh saw content creation as a powerful medium to inform, inspire, and connect people with experiences worth exploring.

Building a Distinct Content Identity

Over the years, Devansh has developed a content style that is authentic, informative, and rooted in real experiences. Rather than simply promoting locations or brands, he focuses on capturing what it genuinely feels like to visit a destination, dine at a restaurant, or stay at a property.

His storytelling approach is centered on the consumer's perspective. Through carefully curated visuals, practical insights, and relatable narratives, he enables viewers to make informed decisions while remaining entertained.

This balance between creativity and utility has become one of the defining characteristics of his work. By prioritizing honesty and relatability, Devansh creates content that resonates with audiences seeking trustworthy recommendations rather than polished advertisements.

A Passion for Travel and Unique Experiences

While his content spans food, lifestyle, events, and hospitality, travel experiences and unique stays remain his favorite subjects to explore. For Devansh, every destination carries its own story, culture, and personality waiting to be discovered.

Whether showcasing hidden retreats, boutique properties, or lesser-known attractions, he enjoys uncovering experiences that many travelers may overlook. These projects allow him to combine several creative disciplines, including photography, videography, travel exploration, and storytelling, into a single narrative that transports viewers into the experience itself. His ability to highlight the essence of a location rather than merely its aesthetics has helped distinguish his work in an increasingly competitive digital landscape.

Collaborations That Create Impact

Throughout his journey, Devansh has collaborated with a diverse range of businesses, including restaurants, hotels, tourism operators, entertainment venues, lifestyle brands, and local enterprises. Each partnership has contributed to his growth as a creator and strengthened his understanding of audience engagement and brand communication.

Among the most rewarding aspects of these collaborations has been the opportunity to produce content that delivers measurable value. Beyond generating views, his work has helped businesses reach new audiences, increase engagement, and strengthen their brand presence. These experiences have also provided valuable lessons in creativity, marketing strategy, and understanding how audiences interact with digital content.

The Power of Authenticity

One of the key reasons behind Devansh’s growing influence is his commitment to authenticity. Having reached millions of viewers across social media platforms, he believes that audiences naturally connect with content that feels genuine.

Rather than focusing solely on visual appeal, he combines honest opinions with useful information, creating content that offers both inspiration and practical value. This approach fosters trust, an essential element in building long-term audience relationships.

Maintaining credibility is particularly important when working with brands. Devansh carefully selects collaborations that align with both his personal standards and his audience’s interests. Before recommending any experience, he ensures he has personally experienced it, allowing him to provide an honest and balanced perspective. This commitment to transparency has become a cornerstone of his content strategy.

The Creative Process Behind Every Story

Behind every successful reel or content piece lies a structured creative process.

For Devansh, content creation begins with understanding the story he wants to tell. Before filming, he researches the location, brand, or experience to identify the most compelling elements. During production, he focuses on capturing a variety of perspectives, details, and moments that collectively convey the essence of the experience.

The editing stage is where the narrative truly comes together. Careful attention is given to pacing, transitions, and storytelling, ensuring that each piece remains visually engaging while effectively communicating information. The result is content that is both entertaining and purposeful.

Adapting in a Rapidly Changing Industry

The content creation landscape has evolved significantly over recent years, becoming increasingly competitive and fast-paced. Audiences now expect higher production quality, faster delivery, and more authentic engagement from creators.

Devansh has embraced these changes by continuously refining his skills. From learning advanced editing techniques to studying platform trends and improving storytelling methods, he remains committed to evolving alongside the industry. His focus on delivering both entertainment and value has allowed him to stay relevant in an environment where audience preferences shift rapidly.

Lessons in Consistency and Growth

Like many creators, Devansh has encountered challenges along the way. Balancing academic responsibilities, professional commitments, and content production required discipline and effective time management. Additionally, navigating algorithm changes, increasing competition, and creative fatigue tested his resilience.

These experiences reinforced valuable lessons about adaptability, patience, and perseverance. For him, success in content creation is not defined by viral moments but by consistent effort and continuous improvement.

The ability to remain dedicated through challenges has played a crucial role in his development as a creator.

Creativity Beyond the Camera

Outside of content creation, Devansh maintains a strong interest in travel, fitness, business strategy, branding, and digital marketing. His curiosity about consumer behavior and brand development complements his creative work, allowing him to approach content from both artistic and strategic perspectives. Exposure to different cultures, experiences, and industries continually fuels new ideas, helping him create content that remains fresh, relevant, and engaging.

Looking Toward the Future

As he continues to expand his presence in the digital space, Devansh’s ambitions extend beyond regional recognition.

He aims to collaborate with leading hospitality, tourism, and lifestyle brands while exploring international destinations and creating impactful brand stories.

More importantly, he hopes to inspire audiences to discover new places, experiences, and perspectives through his content. For Devansh, content creation is about far more than producing videos, it is about storytelling, building meaningful connections, and creating value for both audiences and brands.

With a foundation built on authenticity, creativity, and strategic thinking, Devansh Nevgi represents a new generation of content creators who understand that genuine experiences will always resonate the most.

As his journey continues to unfold, his dedication to meaningful storytelling positions him as a promising voice in the world of travel, food, and lifestyle content creation.

Goan author and HR leader Anjali combines corporate experience with personal insights in Awakening Within, inspiring readers to embrace self-awareness, unlearning, and authentic growth through reflection, resilience, and mindful living.

Anjali M

Born and raised in Goa, Anjali’s journey reflects a unique blend of corporate leadership and literary exploration. Growing up in St. Cruz and later Caranzalem, she was deeply influenced by Goa’s culture of balance, simplicity, and openness, values that continue to shape her perspective today.

Professionally, Anjali serves as Vice President –Human Resources with a global investment bank, where she works closely with leaders and teams through periods of growth and transformation. Alongside her corporate career, she has emerged as a thoughtful author through her book, Awakening Within: The Unlearning Journey.

Her passion for writing grew from a long-standing curiosity about human behaviour, beliefs, and the stories people tell themselves. Years of observing individuals navigate personal and professional challenges eventually inspired her to share those insights with a wider audience.

Understanding the Human Experience

Working in human resources has given Anjali a frontrow view of the human experience.

Beyond job titles and achievements, she has witnessed the fears, aspirations, doubts, and ambitions that shape people's lives. These experiences reinforced her belief that personal growth does not happen only through books or workshops.

It often unfolds through everyday moments, career setbacks, leadership challenges, difficult conversations, and unexpected life lessons. For Anjali, self-awareness is one of the most valuable skills anyone can develop, helping individuals respond to challenges with greater clarity and confidence.

The Journey of Unlearning

The inspiration for Awakening Within came from a simple observation: while people spend years gathering knowledge, they rarely question whether the beliefs they hold are still serving them.

The book explores the fears, expectations, assumptions, and inherited narratives that quietly influence decisions and behaviour. Rather than focusing solely on learning more, Anjali introduces the concept of “unlearning” as a pathway to growth.

She believes that many limiting beliefs are inherited from family, culture, society, or past experiences. While some are helpful, others become invisible barriers. By questioning and releasing outdated patterns, individuals create space to discover who they truly are beneath external expectations.

Impacting Readers

One of the key messages readers have connected with is that self-worth should not depend on external validation. Another powerful takeaway is that awareness often creates change more effectively than willpower alone.

Many readers have shared that the book helped them recognise recurring patterns in their lives and understand that meaningful growth does not always require dramatic action. Sometimes transformation begins simply by noticing what has been operating on autopilot for years.

Recognition and Achievement

Anjali’s work has earned notable recognition, including the Best Young Author Award from the Entrepreneurs Forum of India and the Best Newcomer Author Award at the New Delhi Book Fair.

For a first-time author, these honours were both encouraging and humbling. They validated her belief that authentic, thought-provoking ideas can resonate deeply with readers and reinforced her confidence to continue writing.

Living the Message

The principles Anjali writes about are practices she actively incorporates into her own life. Reflection, journaling, reading, and spending time in solitude help her maintain self-awareness and perspective.

She approaches life with curiosity and makes a conscious effort to challenge her own assumptions. This commitment to ongoing self-discovery allows her to remain aligned with the message at the heart of her work.

Balancing a demanding leadership role with writing was not without challenges. Time constraints and moments of self-doubt were inevitable, but she overcame them by focusing on authenticity rather than perfection, allowing the writing process to become both meaningful and rewarding.

Goa’s Lasting Influence

Anjali credits her Goan upbringing for teaching her the importance of balance long before it became a workplace buzzword. Growing up in Goa nurtured an appreciation for meaningful relationships, simplicity, and living in the present moment.

That influence is evident throughout her writing, which encourages reflection and mindful growth rather than constant striving. The openness and curiosity she developed during her early years continue to shape both her personal outlook and creative voice.

Looking Ahead

Outside her professional and literary pursuits, Anjali enjoys reading, travelling, exploring new cultures, and spending time in nature. Many of her ideas emerge from observing people, experiences, and everyday life.

Looking ahead, she plans to continue exploring themes of self-awareness, resilience, identity, and personal transformation. Inspired by the response to Awakening Within, she is excited about future projects that spark meaningful conversations and help readers see themselves through a new lens. She also hopes to explore fiction writing in the years to come.

Through both her corporate leadership and literary work, Anjali continues to champion a powerful idea: true growth is rarely about becoming someone else, it is about becoming more fully yourself.

Traveller & Content Creator

Latif Khan

Goan motorcycle traveller and content creator Latif Khan inspires riders through Wander With Latif, blending authentic travel stories, practical riding advice, and honest reviews while balancing entrepreneurship with adventure and creativity.

Article by: Team ItsGoa Images by: Latif Khan

Growing up amidst Goa's scenic coastline, winding roads, and vibrant culture, Latif Khan developed an early appreciation for exploration and the outdoors. Today, he has transformed that passion into Wander With Latif, a platform dedicated to motorcycle travel, practical riding advice, and authentic storytelling. While he continues to manage his successful business, One Stop Mobile Repair, Latif has built a community of fellow riders by proving that meaningful journeys are driven not only by adventure but also by consistency, discipline, and a genuine love for the open road.

A Goan Spirit Rooted in Adventure

Born and raised in Goa, Latif's surroundings naturally nurtured his fascination with travel. The state's picturesque landscapes and diverse routes became the backdrop to countless rides that gradually shaped his outlook on life. While motorcycles initially represented excitement and freedom, they soon evolved into something much more significant, a gateway to experiencing destinations beyond the perspective of a conventional traveller.

Alongside his passion for riding, Latif established One Stop Mobile Repair, a mobile repair and accessories business that remains his primary profession. Managing entrepreneurship while pursuing content creation has strengthened his work ethic, teaching him the importance of time management, perseverance, and staying committed to personal passions without compromising professional responsibilities.

The Birth of Wander With Latif

What began as a simple effort to document personal rides gradually developed into Wander With Latif, a growing platform where adventure meets practicality. Rather than focusing solely on destinations, the platform invites viewers to experience every aspect of motorcycle touring, from scenic landscapes and unforgettable road trips to equipment upgrades and real-world riding experiences. For Latif, wandering is never about losing direction. Instead, it represents discovering new places, embracing unexpected experiences, meeting diverse people, and collecting stories that

enrich every journey. His content encourages viewers to appreciate travel as a process rather than a race to reach a destination.

Creating Content That Serves Riders

Unlike many travel creators who focus exclusively on picturesque locations, Latif combines cinematic storytelling with informative content designed specifically for motorcyclists. His videos cover longdistance rides, motorcycle modifications, riding gear, touring accessories, and detailed product reviews that help fellow riders make informed decisions.

Every recommendation featured on his platform undergoes extensive personal testing before being shared with his audience. Whether reviewing windshields, crash guards, tyre pressure monitoring systems, luggage setups, handguards, fog lights, or touring accessories, his emphasis remains on durability, practicality, comfort, safety, ease of installation, and overall value for money. This practical approach has earned him credibility among riders who appreciate honest feedback grounded in real-world experience rather than promotional impressions.

Four riders, One route, Endless memories across Munnar

His objective is simple: provide useful guidance that genuinely improves the riding experience.

A Journey That Left a Lasting Impression

Among the numerous rides that have shaped his journey, one adventure remains especially memorable, a 2,300-kilometre motorcycle expedition from Goa through Kerala, covering destinations including Munnar, Kozhikode, Coimbatore, Bangalore, and Hubli before returning home.

The expedition offered an extraordinary mix of coastal highways, winding mountain passes, dense forests, and ever-changing landscapes. Yet for Latif, the defining moments were not limited to breathtaking scenery. The challenges encountered on the road, conversations with strangers, unexpected detours, and lessons learned throughout the journey ultimately became the memories that mattered most.

His experiences reaffirmed a belief shared by many seasoned travellers: the most meaningful parts of any journey are often found between the starting point and the destination.

Balancing Business and Passion

Running a full-time business while consistently producing quality travel content demands exceptional discipline. Latif carefully prioritises his responsibilities, ensuring his mobile repair business receives the attention it requires while dedicating weekends, holidays, and riding opportunities to content creation. Fortunately, his interests naturally complement one another. His background in technology, combined with his enthusiasm for motorcycles, enables him to create content that blends technical knowledge with practical riding insights. This balance allows him to remain productive across both professions while continuing to pursue his creative ambitions.

Lessons Learned on the Road

Motorcycling has offered Latif lessons that extend far beyond riding techniques. Every journey has reinforced the value of patience, adaptability, resilience, and humility. Unpredictable weather, changing road conditions, mechanical challenges, and unexpected situations have all taught him that flexibility often leads to the most memorable experiences.

Some journeys across Kerala are too memorable to be captured in just one frame

Rolling into the Next Adventure

Equally significant has been his journey as a content creator. Rather than chasing trends or seeking perfection, he believes consistency is the foundation of long-term success. Showing up regularly, continuously improving, and remaining authentic have become principles that define both his work and his growing digital presence.

Creativity Beyond the Motorcycle

Although motorcycles remain central to his identity, Latif's creativity extends into several other interests. Photography, videography, editing, technology, and storytelling all play important roles in how he documents his experiences. His fascination with mobile technology naturally complements his professional background, while his passion for learning continually inspires him to refine both his technical and creative skills. Away from work and travel, he values spending time with family and friends, believing that meaningful relationships are just as important as memorable adventures.

Looking Towards Bigger Adventures

The future of Wander With Latif is centred on growth without compromising authenticity. Latif hopes to expand his travels across India before eventually embarking on international motorcycle expeditions.

Alongside larger adventures, he plans to produce more detailed motorcycle modification projects, comprehensive product reviews, practical touring guides, and documentary-style travel films that showcase both the beauty and realities of life on two wheels. His ambition is not merely to entertain audiences but to build a trusted platform where riders can find inspiration alongside genuinely useful information.

A Philosophy Built Around the Journey

For aspiring motorcycle travellers and content creators, Latif's advice is refreshingly straightforward: begin with what you have. Waiting for the perfect motorcycle, camera, or opportunity only delays experiences that could start today. Passion, consistency, and authenticity, he believes, matter far more than having ideal equipment.

This philosophy defines the heart of Wander With Latif. Travel is not measured by distance covered or destinations checked off a list but by the memories created, the people encountered, and the stories collected along the way. For Latif Khan, every road offers the possibility of discovery. His message remains simple yet deeply meaningful: explore more, worry less, embrace every unexpected turn, and remember that the greatest adventures are often found not at the destination, but in the journey itself.
