Introduction Goa, the tiniest state on the western coast of India, boasts golden pristine beaches, palmfringed avenues, flavourful food, delicious Portuguese-influenced sweets, and warm, hospitable people. Also known as the Ibiza of India for its partying. A tropical paradise of flora and fauna, from the very famous 'almi' (mushrooms) endemic to its forests, that grow only on the red mud anthills, to the solar prawns that are fished immediately after the monsoons, Goa is unique. Tourists are also attracted to Goa for its cultural heritage - from the famous old Portuguese churches like Se Cathedral in Old Goa, the 16th Century Safa Masjid in Ponda and Shree Mangesha Temple in Mardol, the legendary Arvalem or Pandava Caves where the Pandavas of the Mahabharat fame lived, to its two unique festivals - Carnival and Shigmo. Goa plays host to many festivals - the International Film Festival of India that promotes cinema, the Serendipity Art Festival, Sunburn Music Festival, The Grape Escapade to name a few. To showcase this varied heritage of culture, art, tradition, food, and people, in 2015 ItsGoa was born. The main aim was to make it the premier portal for all things Goa. We were able to showcase Goa like never before. Soon our blogbased website transcended the virtual space, with the ItsGoa magazine – a sought-after resource for visitors to Goa from countries like Norway, Germany, UK, USA, UAE, etc.

For Russel Shawn Diniz, that foundation was built in Dramapur, South Goa, where culture, faith, music, and a close-knit community nurtured his understanding of people and storytelling. Today, his work extends across international fashion weeks, runway shows, editorial campaigns, and prestigious beauty pageants, earning him a distinguished reputation as a Goan photographer in the global fashion industry.

His rise has never been driven by shortcuts or overnight success. Instead, it has been defined by years of learning, continuous refinement, and an unwavering commitment to creating photographs that capture far more than appearances. Every frame reflects personality, emotion, and purpose, qualities that have become central to his artistic identity.

Building Two Careers, One Vision

Russel's educational journey reflects an uncommon balance between science and creativity. After completing his schooling in Goa, he pursued professional photography training at the Stenodac Institute of Professional Photography in Panjim. The course provided him with technical foundations, but it was countless hours of experimentation and selfdirected practice that helped him develop a distinctive visual language.

In 2019, he moved to the United Kingdom to pursue higher education, eventually graduating with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Adult Nursing from Keele University. Although nursing and photography appear to belong to entirely different worlds, the two disciplines became unexpectedly complementary. Working in healthcare cultivated empathy, patience, emotional intelligence, and composure under pressure, qualities that naturally carried over into his photographic practice. Rather than simply documenting subjects, Russel learned to understand people, anticipate emotions, and create an environment where authenticity could emerge naturally before the camera.

He recognised that fashion photography possesses a unique ability to communicate confidence, identity, craftsmanship, and emotion through carefully composed imagery. Runway presentations, backstage preparations, editorial concepts, and portrait sessions all became opportunities to tell stories that existed beyond the clothing itself.
