Introduction
Goa, the tiniest state on the western coast of India, boasts golden pristine beaches, palmfringed avenues, flavourful food, delicious Portuguese-influenced sweets, and warm, hospitable people. Also known as the Ibiza of India for its partying. A tropical paradise of flora and fauna, from the very famous 'almi' (mushrooms) endemic to its forests, that grow only on the red mud anthills, to the solar prawns that are fished immediately after the monsoons, Goa is unique. Tourists are also attracted to Goa for its cultural heritage - from the famous old Portuguese churches like Se Cathedral in Old Goa, the 16th Century Safa Masjid in Ponda and Shree Mangesha Temple in Mardol, the legendary Arvalem or Pandava Caves where the Pandavas of the Mahabharat fame lived, to its two unique festivals - Carnival and Shigmo. Goa plays host to many festivals - the International Film Festival of India that promotes cinema, the Serendipity Art Festival, Sunburn Music Festival, The Grape Escapade to name a few. To showcase this varied heritage of culture, art, tradition, food, and people, in 2015 ItsGoa was born. The main aim was to make it the premier portal for all things Goa. We were able to showcase Goa like never before. Soon our blogbased website transcended the virtual space, with the ItsGoa magazine – a sought-after resource for visitors to Goa from countries like Norway, Germany, UK, USA, UAE, etc.

Queency's relationship with music began long before she stepped behind the DJ console. Growing up in a household where music was an integral part of everyday life, she found her greatest inspiration in her father, a respected bassist and music teacher.
His influence extended far beyond formal lessons. He introduced her to the world of live performance by giving her opportunities to sing with some of Goa's leading bands at a young age. These early experiences helped her develop a deeper understanding of music, performance, and audience engagement while nurturing the confidence that would later define her career.
As her appreciation for music grew, so did her desire to explore new creative avenues. That curiosity ultimately led her to pursue professional training in DJing and music production.

Determined to refine her skills, Queency enrolled at the London Sound Academy, where she received professional training in both DJing and music production. Learning from experienced industry professionals gave her valuable technical expertise while expanding her understanding of sound design, live performance, and music creation.

A photographer, photojournalist, cinematographer, DGCA certified drone pilot, and visual storyteller, Siddesh has dedicated his career to documenting moments that might otherwise fade with time. His years working in the press strengthened his interest in documentary photography and inspired him to explore Goa's vibrant festivals, traditions, and communities in greater depth. Guided by curiosity and deep respect for culture, he believes every photograph should do more than capture a scene, it should evoke emotion, preserve history, and tell a story that words often cannot.
A Passion Born Through Family and Curiosity
Photography has been part of Siddesh's life since childhood. Inspired by his father, Mohan Mayenkar, an artist with a deep passion for photography, he grew up surrounded by cameras, creativity, and visual expression. Watching his father work sparked an early fascination that gradually developed into a lifelong passion for the craft.
Determined to pursue photography professionally, Siddesh enrolled in the Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA), specialising in Photography, at the Goa College of Arts. His academic journey refined both his technical skills and artistic vision, helping him understand photography as a powerful medium for storytelling rather than simply image making.
His perspective evolved even further while working as a photojournalist. Covering news and events introduced him to Goa's diverse communities, traditions, and cultural celebrations, nurturing a deep interest in festivals and documentary photography. Travelling across the state, he realised that many traditional occupations, rituals, and customs were gradually disappearing with time. This inspired him to document Goa's cultural heritage through meaningful visual narratives, creating photographs that preserve history as much as they capture the present.
Looking Beyond Goa's Beaches
While Goa is often represented through tourism campaigns centred around beaches and nightlife, Siddesh has consciously chosen to focus on another side of the state. His photographs celebrate village life, temples, churches, artisans, farmers, fishermen, and local communities whose traditions continue to shape Goa's cultural identity.
Every village, festival, and ritual offers a unique narrative waiting to be documented. By highlighting these lesser known stories, Siddesh hopes to encourage people to appreciate the depth and diversity of Goa beyond its familiar postcard image. For Russel Shawn Diniz, that foundation was built in Dramapur, South Goa, where culture, faith, music, and a close-knit community nurtured his understanding of people and storytelling. Today, his work extends across international fashion weeks, runway shows, editorial campaigns, and prestigious beauty pageants, earning him a distinguished reputation as a Goan photographer in the global fashion industry.
His rise has never been driven by shortcuts or overnight success. Instead, it has been defined by years of learning, continuous refinement, and an unwavering commitment to creating photographs that capture far more than appearances. Every frame reflects personality, emotion, and purpose, qualities that have become central to his artistic identity.
Building Two Careers, One Vision
Russel's educational journey reflects an uncommon balance between science and creativity. After completing his schooling in Goa, he pursued professional photography training at the Stenodac Institute of Professional Photography in Panjim. The course provided him with technical foundations, but it was countless hours of experimentation and selfdirected practice that helped him develop a distinctive visual language.
In 2019, he moved to the United Kingdom to pursue higher education, eventually graduating with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Adult Nursing from Keele University. Although nursing and photography appear to belong to entirely different worlds, the two disciplines became unexpectedly complementary. Working in healthcare cultivated empathy, patience, emotional intelligence, and composure under pressure, qualities that naturally carried over into his photographic practice. Rather than simply documenting subjects, Russel learned to understand people, anticipate emotions, and create an environment where authenticity could emerge naturally before the camera.
Photography continued alongside his academic journey rather than taking a back seat. What initially began as a passion steadily evolved into a professional pursuit as he immersed himself in the United Kingdom's thriving creative industry.
Discovering Fashion as a Language of Storytelling
While Russel had already developed a passion for portrait photography in Goa, his exposure to the fashion industry in the United Kingdom transformed his creative direction. Attending fashion shows, photographing pageants, and collaborating with designers introduced him to a world where fashion extended far beyond garments and aesthetics.
He recognised that fashion photography possesses a unique ability to communicate confidence, identity, craftsmanship, and emotion through carefully composed imagery. Runway presentations, backstage preparations, editorial concepts, and portrait sessions all became opportunities to tell stories that existed beyond the clothing itself.

Among the defining achievements of Russel's career is his official recognition by the Miss England organisation as the first Goan-born photographer to photograph Miss England titleholders and contestants as part of its official activities. The recognition represents far more than a personal milestone. It acknowledges years of dedication that began in Goa and gradually unfolded on an international stage through persistence, continuous learning, and professional integrity.
For Russel, the achievement symbolises trust as much as accomplishment. Photographing individuals during significant moments of their journeys requires sensitivity, responsibility, and the ability to preserve memories that hold lasting importance. The experience reinforced his belief that fashion photography can celebrate beauty while simultaneously supporting meaningful causes.
Equally significant were collaborations with Miss World England 2025 Grace Richardson, whose sustainability initiative Every Drop Counts brought advocacy into the creative process, and with Melisa Raouf, the first Miss England contestant to compete without makeup, whose portraiture challenged conventional beauty standards by embracing authenticity.
These projects demonstrated that compelling fashion imagery is created not merely through visual appeal, but through understanding the stories, values, and identities of the individuals being photographed.

intricate detailing, and artistic vision behind each garment. Rather than competing for attention, the photographer's role becomes one of elevating the design while preserving its elegance and character.
These experiences have strengthened his philosophy that the most memorable photographs emerge when storytelling, craftsmanship, and human connection exist in harmony.

Despite working across international fashion capitals, Russel continues to credit Goa as the foundation of his creative identity.
Growing up surrounded by music, faith, cultural traditions, and strong community values taught him to appreciate authenticity and meaningful human relationships. Those lessons remain evident in the way he approaches every assignment, regardless of its scale.

Having learned guitar at St. Sebastian Music School in Margao, he later played regularly at St. Joseph Church in Dramapur before continuing his musical journey at St. Vincent De Paul Church in Osterley after relocating to England.
Music has subtly shaped his creative instincts by strengthening his appreciation for rhythm, timing, emotion, and atmosphere. These qualities naturally influence the pace, composition, and emotional resonance of his photographic work, demonstrating how different art forms often complement one another.

Russel continues to expand his work across international fashion weeks, editorial projects, runway photography, and pageantry, while placing increasing emphasis on cinematic, concept-driven storytelling.
His long-term vision extends beyond documenting fashion. He aims to create imagery that explores identity, culture, personality, and purpose through carefully crafted visual narratives. As his career progresses, he hopes to collaborate more extensively with designers, creative teams, and global campaigns across leading fashion capitals such as London, Paris, and New York.

Today, the young visual artist and visual art student from Rukadi, a village in Maharashtra's Kolhapur district, is recognised for creating expressive large-scale paintings that celebrate everyday life, hardworking communities, and the emotional connections between people and their surroundings. His work reflects not only technical skill but also an honest commitment to portraying the beauty found in ordinary moments.
Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Visual Arts (BVA) at the Faculty of Fine Arts, MSU, Vadodara (The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda), Utkarsh continues to develop a distinctive visual language rooted in observation and lived experience. Whether depicting farmers in Maharashtra or fishermen in Goa, his paintings invite viewers to appreciate stories of resilience, dignity, and contentment that often remain unnoticed.
An Unlikely Beginning
Growing up in an artist's family, one might assume that painting naturally became part of Utkarsh's life. Surprisingly, that was never the case.
Although his father is an artist and he spent much of his childhood around his father's studio, he had little interest in painting and rarely picked up a brush. Until the end of school, art remained something he observed rather than something he actively pursued.
Everything changed during the COVID 19 pandemic. With more time available, Utkarsh began experimenting with watercolours purely out of curiosity. Those simple experiments gradually transformed into a genuine passion, encouraging him to study colours, forms, and composition more closely. Visits to museums, exhibitions, and art fairs further expanded his understanding of art, helping him realise that painting is not simply about creating beautiful images but about expressing ideas, emotions, and personal experiences.
Inspired by Maharashtra's Rural Life
The greatest influence on Utkarsh's artistic practice comes from his upbringing in rural Maharashtra. Growing up in Rukadi, where farming forms an important part of everyday life, he witnessed the dedication of farmers who began work before sunrise, returned home after long days in the fields, and found happiness in simple moments shared with family and friends. These experiences became the foundation of his artistic identity.
Rather than focusing on hardship, Utkarsh chooses to celebrate the quieter moments that define rural life. His paintings capture farmers sharing meals, resting after work, celebrating festivals, or spending time with loved ones. Through expressive figures, vibrant colours, and carefully balanced compositions, he preserves memories that reflect warmth, resilience, and optimism. A significant milestone in Utkarsh's journey came through his admiration for renowned artist Dr. Subodh Kerkar. Having followed his work for several years, Utkarsh met him during a visit to the Museum of Goa with his family in 2023.

Inspired by the meeting, he later shared his portfolio through Instagram and expressed his interest in interning with him. Impressed by his work, Dr. Kerkar invited him to Goa, opening the door to an invaluable learning experience.
During his internship, Utkarsh contributed drawings for a sculpture and created A Sip of Beer, an artwork that became part of the World's Largest Beer Museum in Goa. Working alongside Dr. Kerkar and the Museum of Goa team gave him the freedom to experiment with new ideas, materials, and techniques while strengthening both his artistic confidence and creative practice.

Rather than continuing with his familiar subject of farmers, he spent time observing Goa's fishing communities, studying their daily routines, body language, and
close relationship with the sea. The result is a painting that combines a fisherman, Goan vegetation, travelling palms, and a beer bottle to evoke the atmosphere of Goa.
The beer bottle serves as a thoughtful symbol rather than a celebration of alcohol. For Utkarsh, it represents a quiet moment of rest after a physically demanding day at sea. By connecting the bottle with dignity, hard work, and relaxation, he presents a more meaningful interpretation of a familiar Goan image. Warm colours, expressive brushwork, and dynamic compositions allow viewers to connect with the work through their own memories and experiences rather than a fixed narrative.

One of the most distinctive aspects of A Sip of Beer is the surface on which it is painted. Instead of choosing a traditional canvas, Utkarsh worked on discarded tarpaulin discovered during his time at the Beer Museum. The worn material, marked by stains and textures from its previous use, immediately appealed to him because it carried its own history and character.

Using Opus Birla oil enamel paint, a material commonly found in everyday life, further strengthened his desire to create art that feels familiar and accessible. He also stitched together three separate tarpaulin panels with thread, transforming the visible seams into a symbolic element of the artwork. For him, these stitches represent the resilience, patience, and determination of working communities whose daily efforts hold countless aspects of life together.

Utkarsh's paintings are instantly recognisable for their monumental scale and energetic brushwork. Rather than painting with a conventional brush held in his hand, he works using brushes attached to a five foot stick. Sherie's corporate journey began with Accenture, where she quickly realised that her long-term aspirations extended beyond her initial career path.
This realisation led her to pursue higher studies in finance, opening the door to an internship that evolved into a rewarding seven-year career at JPMorgan Chase & Co.
Working as an Investment Specialist, Sherie collaborated with some of the world's largest institutional investors while interacting with highperforming teams across global markets. Starting as a fresh graduate, she steadily progressed into a managerial role, taking on increasing responsibilities and leadership opportunities.
Those years provided much more than technical expertise. They strengthened her analytical thinking, decision-making abilities, leadership skills, and problem-solving mindset, qualities that continue to influence every aspect of her professional life today. The corporate world also taught her the importance of adaptability, continuous learning, and embracing challenges with confidence.
Coming Home to Goa
Despite building successful careers in Mumbai, Sherie and her husband had always shared a dream of returning to the place they both called home. Having met during their engineering days at Goa College of Engineering, their relationship evolved from college companions to life partners who envisioned building their future in Goa.
In January 2025, as they prepared to welcome their first child, that dream became reality. Returning home represented much more than a change in location. It was an opportunity to embrace a slower pace of life, be closer to family, contribute to their family businesses, and raise their son in the environment that had shaped their own childhoods.
For Sherie, the move reinforced the belief that professional fulfilment does not always require remaining in a metropolitan city. Sometimes, it means bringing valuable experience back home and using it to create opportunities within one's own community. Today, Sherie plays an active role in her family's hospitality businesses in Assolna, South Goa, particularly supporting the newer ventures that have recently been established.

Kenya offered an entirely different adventure. Witnessing the Great Migration, observing the Big Five in their natural habitat, and watching a lioness with her cubs became powerful reminders of nature's beauty and fragility.
Kazakhstan surprised the couple with its dramatic landscapes, scenic road trips, pristine lakes, national parks, and rich culinary experiences, making it one of their favourite destinations.
Most recently, they celebrated their son's first birthday during a three-week journey through Germany, Austria, and Portugal. Travelling with a one-year-old challenged common misconceptions surrounding family travel and reaffirmed their belief that meaningful adventures can be shared at every stage of life.
