50 Years Strong: The Impossible Dream Lives On In 1976, a bold dream took shape in Israel. It began with a simple yet powerful belief: every child deserves the opportunity to thrive—no matter where they come from or what challenges they face. At the time, Israel faced social and political tension. Many families were leaving the country, uncertain about the future. In response, a group of visionaries set out to create something different — places where children could grow, connect, and experience a sense of normalcy through sport, mentorship, and community. What started with a single ribbon cutting alongside Leah Rabin at the first center in Ramat Hasharon soon became something far greater than anyone could have imagined. Over the past 50 years, more than 500,000 children across Israel have walked through the gates of the Israel Tennis & Education Centers. They came from different backgrounds, different communities, and different life circumstances—but each arrived with potential waiting to be discovered. Today, ITEC operates in 25 strategic
locations across Israel, with a strong focus on underserved communities. These centers are more than tennis facilities. They are communities where children learn confidence, discipline, respect, and resilience—lessons that stay with them long after they leave the court. On ITEC courts, children from underserved communities, immigrant families, diverse cultural backgrounds, and those with special needs come together as equals. Here, barriers fall away. Confidence is built. Leadership is nurtured. Today, the dream that began 50 years ago endures. It lives in every child who steps onto a court and discovers confidence where there was once uncertainty. In every friendship formed across differences. In every coach, mentor, and educator who believes in a child before that child learns to believe in themselves. Through times of celebration and times of hardship, ITEC has remained a constant: a place where children are seen, supported, and empowered to grow.
