SO, WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

This timeline shows your journey from receiving an offer to starting at Itchen College in September, highlighting key events and steps to help you prepare and make informed choices.

2. WELCOME EVENT

The Welcome Event is a chance to explore subjects, experience life at Itchen, and begin narrowing down your study choices before enrolment. Some sports will also hold team trials, with details sent out in May–June 2026.

1. MAY - JUNE 2026

We will send details about the Welcome Event, where you can take part in subject taster sessions to help you decide on the best programme of study.

4. LATE AUGUST/ EARLY SEPTEMBER

Enrolment begins on the afternoon of GCSE Results Day and continues into early September. During your enrolment interview, you will confirm your final course choices and receive your timetable. Please remember to bring all of your results slips.

5. SEPTEMBER

College starts in early September (exact date to be confirmed).

3. JULY 2026

You will receive enrolment details, including an interview appointment, and should make every effort to attend.

Please inform us immediately if you cannot. To avoid delays, try not to book holidays after the August bank holiday.

Enrolment is when you confirm your final course choices, though you may change your mind anytime between your interview, the Welcome Event and enrolment.

Our Welcome Event gives you the opportunity to take part in taster sessions, experience what it is like to study at Itchen College, and meet new people.

Your personal timetable is based on the subject choices you made during your college interview.

These taster sessions have been designed to: Introduce the way you will be taught at Itchen Give you a chance to ask any questions you may have Help you to be sure about your course choices for September Introduce you to our teachers Allow you to experience the college environment and meet new people.

SUPPORT AT ITCHEN

Itchen Sixth Form College is strongly committed to supporting each individual student’s academic and personal development.

Your tutor, usually one of your teachers, will get to know you well and support you throughout your time at college. They will share important information, monitor your progress and attendance, discuss any concerns and act as the main contact for your parents or guardians.

Tutors are supported by the Student Support Manager, who can offer additional advice on personal or academic matters if needed.

Our SEND Team provides specialist assistance and manages exam access arrangements for students who require additional support.

The Study Centre offers excellent resources, quiet study areas and experienced staff who can help with research, IT, and writing skills. Many academic resources, including journals and e-books, are also available online.

Our Student Support Team is available throughout the day to assist with higher education and UCAS applications, job searches and work experience, travel advice and personal finance.

ENRICHMENT

We offer over 50 different enrichment options over every day of the week At Itchen it is important to us that we nurture both your academic potential and your cultural, artistic and sporting excellence.

Our Enrichment programme is embedded in the heart of the college day from 12.00-12.45 and will: Discover and nurture your personal interests and talents Develop strength of character through diligence, growing confidence and independence Provide opportunities for you to be physically and mentally healthy Provide opportunities for further support and preparation for your future success Equip you with skills and responsibility to be respectful and active citizens Build new friendships and connections

FAQ

Q: How many subjects will I study?

A: Students tend to choose three subjects or the equivalent if studying a double or triple award programme. Some students may also take on the Extended Project Qualification alongside their other studies.

Q: Will I be asked to make any financial contributions to the college?

A: Teaching and learning resources are provided, however you may find it helpful to bring your own laptop/chromebook.

A: There is a suggested contribution of £30 per year for the college fund.This fund provides benefits for the welfare of the student body. This includes supporting and improving the student environment, the extensive Enrichment programme, sporting activities, music and drama events.

There are also some additional payments for some trips and activities such as Sports Academy.

Q: What sort of food can I buy a college? Is it expensive?

Q: Is attendance in lessons compulsory?

A: The canteen and college shop is based in the Student Centre and it provides a variety of inexpensive and healthy meals, salads, sandwiches, snacks, hot and cold drinks etc. Some students may be eligble for free college meals: please contact Michelle Payne (mpayne@itchen.ac.uk) for more information about this.

A: Yes. You should aim for 100% attendance in all of your lessons. We do, however, understand that students may miss lessons for a variety of valid reasons. You are required to email the college if you are unable to attend your lessons due to illness or any other reason. The college will contact your parent/guardian to discuss any concerns regarding attendance. If you miss a lesson and are marked absent on the register, a text message is sent to your parent/guardian informing them of your absence. Holidays are not permitted during term time.

Q: Will I need to buy my own resources?

Q: I live a few miles away, how can I get to Itchen safely and easily?

A: The college provides a subsidised bus service via Xelabus.

We have seven bus routes currently operating to and from the college at the beginning and end of the day and three lunchtime bus routes.
