THE IVORY BOATHOUSE

DATE: SPRING 2021 LOCATION: BOATHOUSE ROW INSTRUCTOR: DAVID BEKER DURATION: 10 WEEKS The Ivory Boathouse merges utility and experiences. The utility of boat storage and housing a rowing team. Designing for the PCR rowing team, the design ties in the experiential idea of liminal space between threshold space. The boathouse is a link between the land and the water as it uses continuous lines of circulation to connect land and water. The spaces create in-between spaces that use light to carry the visitor through. The boathouse frames your view as it pulls you through the circulation. The circulation is wrapped in a veil of unconnected curved structure to create the separation between outside and inside. The exterior and interior of the building. Giving a semi-transparent Experience.

MANTUA FLATS

How are neighborhoods made and does the fabric of the site context affect design choices?

The row-house project questions how to make a community and how that community meets the context. The site is located in Mantua, Philadelphia outside of university city. It presents itself in a fractured neighborhood. Mantua Flats focuses on creating a community in a fractured neighborhood. The collection of homes is situated on a plot that is open to the west while catching the edges of the small community.

The project is developed in three stages. First is the understanding of the spatial organization, through study models. The second is site layout and organization. The third stage is through organization. Understanding the section of the row home becomes crucial to the project. The homes. The multi-unit and the live/work home.

In the context of the pandemic, homes have been asked to extend themselves in many parts of the everyday.

THE MUSIC NEXUS

DATE: WINTER 2021 LOCATION:LANCASTER AVE INSTRUCTOR: ULRIKE ALTERMULER DURATION: 10 WEEKS The Music Nexus on Lancaster Ave is a Space that encompasses community, iconism, a bit of glamor and multiple uses. The space plays with a day and night duality, with a café for the morning, a restaurant for lunch and dinner to be served with adequate performance space.

Experimenting with the massing shape and how it could shape space. The shape and form pays attention to the interactions with the building around it.

Inspired by an iris van herpen shape. The play on the perpendicular vs. the curved, Organic matter and transnationalism. transnationalism as it has a cafe at the front, a green oasis courtyard in the middle and the dining/performance area.

THE CURVE ON 23RD

DATE: WINTER 2022 LOCATION: 23RD ST AND RACE ST INSTRUCTOR: RICH OLAYA DURATION: 10 WEEKS The curve on 23rd is a senior living community that approaches senior living as an incorporation of the existing community. The curve on 23rd is a building that acts as a connection between the residents and the neighborhood it is located in. The main idea is to view aging as a new way of living but one that is giving and rewarding. The building wants to be a place where new hobbies and into the neighborhood with what it gives the community and it responds to the excitement of the building. The interactions that the building could foster are those that give back to the community and neighborhood, through the programming of the building. The building pulls the community in and allows the resident a peaceful. The building stretches itself out where it wants to meet its audience and pinches where its audience wants to meet the building. The project and how that can be livable and enjoyed. This senior living invites a new way of aging and how it can be seen and experienced.

The massing is created with the understanding the building fotprint. The massing uses a stretch and pinch. The building stretches it self out where it wants to meet its audience and pinches where its audience wants to meet the building. The massing has two towers, using light studies and understand surrounding building heights.

They create spaces that are very considerate of the original but all wide and open with pocket of light and air coming through with spilling into the ground. The moments isolate large spaces that create community and illustrate the experience of the big moves.

The Harvest pavilion is a project by vector architects that works on integrating the nature into the building. The project located in a farm area allows for that integrations with the land. The Pavilion uses materials that refer to that integrating such as wod, and the stones. The main feature is the wod slates that hover over that top parallel inside and outside. These slates cantilever around the pavilion. The inside space is multiuser as it is covered in windows and some sides have wod.

THE FRANKENSTEIN TOOL

The tool project is drafting exercise that uses a previous tool, in this case a can opener.

The original tool is broken up and re-arranged into a new tool. The tool drawing shows the movements and the depths of the tool through hand rendering and drafting techniques.

The Section cube preceptive is an exercise with hand drafting and Photoshop rendering to demonstrate light, shadow and depth.

This is a study on the construction and materials of a row house. Understanding the foundation, that is built in plaster. Using bass wood. This is a recreation of the wood structural system.

This is a 5week project in representation. The idea behind this project was inspired by the fashion, most jacquemus and the constructiveness of the garments. The boutique hotel is meant to maximize the feeling of being in the south of France. The views are all to show case the beauty of the south of France and the allure of jacquemus and fashion. The shape of the massing is reminiscent of the jacquemus bag shape.

As part of the learning proces of revit as a new tool. This project is an entry into the Stewardson competition. This competition board takes uses all the tools for presentation to create a clear entry. The goal of this project is to communicate the main idea behind the building in a graphically pleasing manner.
