Firearm Concealed Carry Act Notice The Firearms Concealed Carry Act, which became state law in July 2013 requires an Illinois Concealed Carry License in order to carry a concealed firearm in Illinois. The law forbids carrying a concealed weapon into government buildings, schools and parks. As a requirement of the law, Illinois State Police approved signs indicating the ban are now posted at the Itasca Recreation & Fitness Center and Springbrook Nature Center.

General Information

State of the Park District Summer is just around the corner and normally the Itasca Park District is bustling with preparing for activities such as; day camps, swimming, softball leagues, outdoor special events and more. Typically, our parks are filled with kids at the playgrounds and friendly games of baseball, tennis and basketball – waiting for the final school bell to ring on the last day, as a sure sign of summer break. We are hoping to get back to this soon!

The Park District is closely following recommendations from the Governor’s office, Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) as it pertains to public parks and recreation activities and facilities. Currently, we are awaiting further direction from these agencies in order to make appropriate decisions on how activities will be affected this summer. In the meantime, staff has been busy preparing these great summer offerings:

Summer Camps and Limited Programs: At this time, we are planning to offer

playgrounds and basketball courts remain closed at this time. Also, as a friendly reminder, currently there are no group activities in the parks. And please remember to maintain social distancing while enjoying the park paths.

Itasca Waterpark: As many of you area aware, the vast majority of Chicago suburban park districts have already announced the 2020 season closure of their public pools. After much review, it is with a heavy heart that we are announcing the Itasca Waterpark will be closed for the 2020 Summer Season. This decision did not come easily, and was made in the best interest of our patrons and staff due to the current COVID 19 Pandemic. The Itasca Waterpark Bathhouse Construction Project will proceed as planned and construction will begin in June 2020. We can’t wait for everyone to dive back in at the 2021 Memorial Day Weekend Grand Opening!

Itasca Fitness Center: We anticipate offering fitness classes for groups of 10 sometime in June and personal trainings. Staff is developing a reopening plan to welcome you back as soon as State guidelines allow. Watch for our email blasts, social media sites and our website for of our Fitness Plans as they become available.

Bark in the Park Woofle Ball Bring your dogs and join us at the Itasca Softball Complex and the Barking Lot for a day of whiffle ball. Families will enjoy playing whiffle ball games while Dogs will enjoy playing in the Barking Lot and eating treats. All pets must be leashed, and accompanied by an adult when not in the Barking Lot. Bristol Renaissance Faire

An object from the future has slipped back through time and landed in the distant past.

You have volunteered to be a part of an extremely dangerous task force that will be traveling back in time to discover the origin of this horrendous event. You have one hour to find the missing object and return it to the correct time period, or the course of human history will be altered forever! Participants will work together to problem solve and try to escape the room! Fee includes price of escape room at Mastermind Escape Room, lunch, and transportation. Parent waiver needed. (ER)

Milwaukee Beer Tour Let’s begin the day with a sit-down lunch that pays homage to Milwaukee's brewing past. After lunch, we will explore a craft brewery to meet with the masterminds behind their location and learn more about their craft philosophies while sampling their products. Chosen: Pabst Mansion for a docent tour of the historic former home of Captain Pabst, and a tour at Best Place in the Historic Pabst Brewery complex. Bathhouse Replacement Itasca Waterpark is getting a new Bathhouse!

Summer Project

The new bathhouse will include a year around multi-purpose room, 2 family restrooms, updated locker rooms, offices and more! Construction to begin this Summer 2020.

Four solar-powered informational audio Tour mates will be installed soon throughout the Nature Center.

New Way-finding signage has been added. Interactive exhibits inside the Nature Center building are scheduled for late this year with the assistance of a $335,000 reinstated Museum Grant.

Virtual Senior Bingo BINGO! Enjoy the classic and loved game of Bingo from home! Register for Bingo on the park district website and we will deliver two Bingo cards right to your door. We will play through a Zoom session. There will be four regular games and a coverall. Prizes will be delivered to the winners' door. Treasure Hunting for Geodes Together!

Geodes are ordinary-looking rocks which, when split apart, reveal a gem-like treasure of sparkling quartz hidden inside. Find out how geodes are formed and learn about some other cool rocks. Virtual Camp Adventure

Virtual Teen Hangout

Itasca Park District is bringing the Adventure to you! Virtual Camp Adventure will combine interactive Zoom sessions with counselors, fun activities, games, crafts, and virtual field trips with materials and supplies being delivered to your door each week via “Camp in a Box.” Some activities will be done over the Zoom session, and some will be on your own.

Check back in and show us what you did on Google Classroom. All information will be provided via Google Classroom that will be accessed by log-in. This is a great opportunity to safely interact with friends and your favorite counselors. Four hours of programming is provided each day that you are registered. Camp in a Box does not include your basic craft supplies like crayons, markers, scissors, glue sticks, etc. A list of what is needed will be provided to purchase on your own, or you can purchase the “Craft Essentials Box.” Camp in a Box and Craft Essentials Boxes will be delivered to Itasca Park District and Itasca Residents only. Non-residents will have a scheduled no contact pick-up time. (ER)

Teens will have a chance to still experience a summer with their friends in this virtual teen hangout. This weekly program is designed to give teens a safe way to see and interact with their friends and favorite counselors via Zoom. Teens will experience different virtual games, challenges, trivia and competitions for points and incentives.

Games and challenges will include virtual versions of favorite games like Mafia and Uno, along with new games, challenges, and riddles like virtual escape rooms, designed by professional educators to get teens thinking and working towards solutions. Nature Center!

NEW!

The Itasca Nature Center has teamed up with the Itasca Library to present a StoryWalk™, a fun way to combine reading and exercising. A series of signs throughout the Nature Center grounds feature spreads from a children’s picture book allowing a reader to follow along with a story by walking. We are featuring The Goose Egg by Liz Wong, and it starts at the loop next to the Nature Center building. This project is sponsored by the Itasca Park District, Itasca Library, and Friends of the Itasca Community Library. The StoryWalk ™ Project was created

by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, Vermont, and developed in collaboration with the Vermont Bicycle & Pedestrian Coalition and the Kellogg Hubbard Library. Take a walk as you read a book at the Springbrook Nature Center.

Junior Naturalist Club Do you want to learn more about nature and how we can help protect it? Maybe you like to fish, canoe, hike, camp, and roast marshmallows. If this sounds exciting, you should become a Junior Naturalist (JN). The JN club is a group of kids that love to have a good time and help out. The JNs explore, hike, work special events and restoration projects, take care of the animals in the building and much more! This club meets once a week, usually on Fridays at the Nature Center. Our summer session follows the same format as our school-year program while enjoying the beautiful surroundings at the Nature Center. Would your child benefit from a continued summer learning program? Due to sudden school closings, many children will be in need of reviewing or enhancing their skills to be ready for the fall. We will be continuing our virtual programs during a six week summer session. As in the spring, the program will include lesson plans emailed to parents twice a week. Equipment All participants are required to wear shin guards underneath their socks at all practices and games. Players must bring a soccer ball to practice each day. U6 & U8 will need to have a Size 3 ball; U10 will need to bring a Size 4 ball, while U12 and U14 will need a Size 5 ball.

Coaches The Itasca Park District Soccer League is extremely popular and has a large number of participants and teams. Without our fantastic volunteer coaches we would be unable to offer such a wonderful program. The park district is currently looking for parents or adults to volunteer as a coach or an assistant coach. Please indicate on your child’s registration form if you are interested in coaching. Online registration not available for this program.

Important Registration Info:

Fall soccer will be playing with a new format in accordance with the US Youth Soccer organization. Smaller fields and teams will allow for players to achieve the following: to touch the soccer ball more often which will enhance their individual technique and tactical development, receive more individual teaching time with their coach, receive more involved playing time in games, and most importantly to have more opportunities to score to enhance excitement. There is no Online Registration. (DF)

Inter-Village Soccer League Registration will be accepted on first-come, first-serve basis on dates listed below.

Efforts will be made to place registrants on a team. However once a team is filled, registrants will be placed on a wait list in an effort to create another team.

Participants will be informed of team placement by their coach before the first week of practice. *Participants must register in the age division designated using birth year of the participant.

Practices and Games Itasca Inter-Village Soccer plays in the Mid Suburban Soccer League other districts included are Addison, Bensenville, Bloomingdale, Glendale Heights, Medinah, Roselle, Villa Park and Wood Dale. Practices are once or twice per week with practice days and times at the discretion of the coach. Games will be played on Saturdays Sep 12-Oct 31.

Uniforms All players must wear an Itasca Park District uniform. Uniforms must be purchased at the time of Registration. A sample of all sizes will be available at the registration desk. U6 Micro Soccer Micro Soccer is a scaled-down version of the game of soccer specifically designed for young children. Children will play 3 vs. 3 on a smaller soccer field. Coaches are allowed on the field and no score is kept. This program is geared toward children who have mastered Pee Wee Soccer, yet are not old enough to join the Itasca Inter-Village Soccer League. Each team will practice a minimum of one day per week. Games will be played each Saturday with surrounding Park Districts. Players need to wear shin guards and bring a size three (3) ball to each practice and game. Please indicate on your registration form if you are interested in coaching. *Fee includes jersey. IBSL Fall Ball will take a lighter approach in comparison to our Summer IBSL program. Players will practice on Thursdays as coaches work with players to improve skills and techniques to prepare players for the next season. On Sundays simulated games will be played where coaches will help players learn game situations.

The goal of IBSL Fall Ball is to offer more opportunities for Itasca baseball/softball players to have a few more days to enjoy the game they love. Each player will receive an IBSL hat. Coaches needed. (DF) AGE

Little Sluggers T-Ball Younger kids will love this introduction to one of the most popular sports around!

Participants will learn the basic skills of baseball: throwing, catching, base running, hitting, and fielding, all in a non-competitive environment. Games will take place on Saturday mornings. British Soccer Camps provide young players with the rare opportunity to receive high-level soccer coaching from a team of international experts right in the heart of their own community. Each day includes individual foot skills, technical drills, tactical practices, small-sided games, coached scrimmages, and a tournament. Equally important, the Challenger coaching staff provides your child with lessons in selfdiscipline, good sportsmanship and respect for others and for the game. (DF)

This class is a great introduction to the sport of soccer. Basic soccer skills such as running, kicking, passing, and game play will be covered. Games will be used to incorporate the skills taught during class in a fun and safe environment. (DF)

Adult-Tot T-Ball Training Parents can enjoy America's favorite pastime with their child. Young children will develop motor skills while having fun throwing, catching, batting, and base running like the big kids. Parents and their little athletes will enjoy making new friends and working together to learn the basics of game play in this exciting class! (DF)

3on3 Rec Soccer Get your players more chances to score and extra touches to develop soccer skills, such as agility and coordination, ball mastery, accurate and quick passing, and receiving.

Time is spent during each class on drills and games. Youngsters are assigned to different teams each week, and coaches referee games in a teaching style. Games are played in a respectful, positive, and safe environment with an emphasis on equal participation. (DF)

Basketball Offense & Defense Clinic Whether you want to make a basketball team or just improve your fundamentals, this class is for you! Boys and girls will develop fundamental offensive skills including footwork, ball handling, passing, setting screens, and shooting. Defensive concepts such as stance work, man-to-man, zone, boxing out, and rebounding will also be introduced. Player instincts and quickness are enhanced through individual ball work, team situational drills and various game situations. Players improve their fundamental skills, knowledge of the game, and understanding of how to become a better basketball player individually and as a team. (DF)

Tot Tracksters This unique class will combine stretching, movement, and other fitness concepts with running, jumping, throwing and other skills used in track and field. Children will work on body coordination, agility, balance and self-confidence. The session will conclude with a fun-filled track and field meet on the last day of the class. (DF)

Track & Field This class will teach kids about track and field, one of the oldest sports that continues to grow and is highlighted by the Olympics every 4 years. Boys and girls will learn the jumping, running, and throwing skills involved in the sport of track and field. They will practice sprints, relays, long-distance walking, running hurdles, long jump, discus throw, and other track and field events as well as participate in a fun-filled SportsKids track and field meet on the last day of the clinic. Adult & Child Golf Enjoy golf with your child in this fun and exciting class. We’ll work with you and your child to help him or her learn the basics of golf using colorful equipment. Putting, chipping and tee work will be mixed with easy instruction for proper form. Equipment will be provided. (DF)

Adult-Tot Soccer A parent or another adult will enjoy time with their child learning the skills, moves, and joy of playing America's most popular youth sport! Emphasis will be on the basic skills of soccer such as dribbling, passing, and shooting; all in a fun and relaxed environment.

Age appropriate drills, games, and equipment will be used to help tots develop motor skills, coordination, balance, and listening skills. Adults will enjoy playing alongside and assisting their youngsters as they get their first taste of soccer fun! (DF)

Sporting Encounters Girls and boys learn the basic skills of soccer, basketball, floor hockey, t-ball and more.

Classes are designed to improve listening skills, the ability to follow directions and enhance overall physical development -- all while having fun. (DF)

Basketball Shooting Boys and girls learn jump shots, shots off the glass, lay-ups, shooting from a pass and shooting off the dribble. Shooting games will also be a part of this class. (DF)

Adult & Tot Hoops N' Kicks Get ready to score some hoops and goals in this fun class! Boys and girls learn the basic motor skills necessary to play basketball and soccer while they work one-on-one and spend quality time with their parents. Skills such as dribbling, running, kicking, catching, shooting, and passing will be taught. Toddlers will develop motor, listening, and social skills as they participate in a variety of activities designed around these two sports. (DF)

Instructional T-Ball The focus of this program is on helping your child enhance batting, throwing, catching, and base running skills. The first three weeks consist of skills training sessions. Escape Room

Safe Sitter® prepares students in grades 6-8 to be safe when they’re home alone, watching younger siblings, or babysitting. Students learn life-saving skills such as how to rescue someone who’s choking, and helpful information like what to do if there’s severe weather. The lessons are filled with fun activities and role-playing exercises.

Students even get to use CPR manikins to practice CPR and choking rescue! (ER) CODE

You have volunteered to be a part of an extremely dangerous task force that will be traveling back in time to discover the origin of this horrendous event. Chicago's Polish Corridor

Jazzin’ at the Shedd is a festival-worthy lineup of three of Chicago’s top jazz ensembles. Jazzin’ is also a great time to discover the unbelievable life that lives here! It’s all at the Shedd Aquarium, where great music, the city skyline, fireworks and animals you have to see to believe come together. Registration includes motor coach transportation and entry. (ER)

With its rich Polish history, Milwaukee Avenue is one of Chicago’s most fascinating streets. Explore this great thoroughfare on another great Guided Chicago neighborhood tour! At the beginning of the 20th Century, the Polish settlement along Milwaukee Avenue was the largest outside of Warsaw. Visit the Polish Museum of America to learn of the immigration to Chicago. See the colorful displays including the Pope John Paul II collection and native folk costumes. Travel up Milwaukee Avenue to see the recently gentrified areas of Bucktown and Wicker Park. Hear stories of Milwaukee Avenue as an Indian Trail and later a plant “toll road.” Visit one of Chicago’s Polish churches. Lunch today is at one of Chicago’s well-known Polish restaurants, Staropolska Restaurant on Milwaukee Ave. This restaurant serves traditional and contemporary Polish foods. There is also time to visit a Polish deli after lunch, before finishing our tour on Chicago’s northwest side. Suspension Training

Tai Chi Class

TRX is a great method of functional training for all fitness levels. Clients will use the suspension trainer and their own body weight to perform different exercises for all muscle groups controlling the intensity by adjusting their body position and angle.

Increase total body strength and flexibility; and develop core stability. Classes are instructed by TRX Training certified staff.

Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese martial art that is being rediscovered here as a health exercise. This class brings the mind, body, and spirit together with isometric, balance, and leg strengthening exercises. Movements are executed slowly and precisely to learn proper body alignment. Our way to beat stress is through integrating slower breathing with more precise, aligned movement.

A. All requests for refunds must be submitted in person or by phone two business days prior to the first class meeting or practice of program. Trips require reservations weeks ahead of time and therefore do not allow us to refund. Please see staff for individual trip policies.

B. Individuals requesting refunds with two or more business days notice prior to the first class, meeting, or practice will receive a 100% refund, less $10 for administrative costs.

C. No refunds will be issued for any programs within two days of the first meeting of a program, unless a physician’s excuse is presented. Refunds requested for medical reasons will be prorated from the time the request is received.

D. A refund will not be given to programs that cost less than $15. The amount minus the $10 fee will be applied to another class or a voucher given for future use.

E. Junior Kindergarten, Preschool, and Tiny Tikes Classes have a cancellation fee of $75 for withdrawing any time after registering. Enrichment programs have a $25 cancellation fee.

Registration will continue until the class is filled or needs to be cancelled due to insufficient enrollment or individual program deadlines. Mail-in registration for the Fitness Center and Waterpark passes will not be accepted. Itasca Park District Residents will need proof of residency and children in their household to register for the first time.

Waivers In accordance with Recreation Department policy, all program participants must sign a hold-harmless agreement prior to participation in Department sponsored programs.

The waiver must be signed by adults participating in adult programs, and by a parent or legal guardian for children under 18 years of age.

In Case of Oops!

Complete details of program policies, procedures, and guidelines are sometimes omitted from the program brochures because of space limitations. Also, errors in days, times, registration requirements and fees may occur. We apologize for any errors that may appear in the brochure. We thank you for your patience and understanding when these situations arise.

The Itasca Park District does not provide medical coverage for injuries suffered while participating in park district programs, or while using park facilities. The park district, therefore, cannot assume responsibility for personal injury for persons participating in recreation programs or using facilities. Persons are advised to make provisions for this coverage in their family insurance program.

Fee Information Due to liability concerns, all individuals wishing to participate in any park district program must pay the registration fee listed in the brochure prior to the start of the first class. Any individual who is unable to pay the registration fee must contact the Superintendent of Recreation to set up a payment plan. No phone registration will be accepted. Individuals not paying full program registration fee, or those on payment plans, will be assessed a 10% service charge if any payment is late.

Itasca Recreation Center Rental The Itasca Recreation Center may be reserved for private use during non-program hours.

Groups and individuals should contact the park district at 630-773-2257 or visit itascaparkdistrict.com/rentals for more information. A Security Deposit is required in order to hold a date. If cancellation occurs within 10 days prior to rental, deposit will be retained.

Cooperation The park district wishes to acknowledge the cooperation of the Village of Itasca and the Itasca School District #10 for enabling the park district to provide numerous year-round recreational activities. The park district is permitted to use the school facilities when not used by the schools. For this reason there may be occasional changes in the schedule.

Senior Citizens Senior Citizen rates apply to those 60 years and older.

To the extent permitted by law, the Itasca Park District and its affiliates disclaim any and all liability in connection with the at Home Virtual Program in this video and any instructions and advice provided.”
