Firearm Concealed Carry Act Notice The Firearms Concealed Carry Act, which became state law in July 2013 requires an Illinois Concealed Carry License in order to carry a concealed firearm in Illinois. The law forbids carrying a concealed weapon into government buildings, schools and parks. As a requirement of the law, Illinois State Police approved signs indicating the ban are now posted at the Itasca Recreation & Fitness Center and Springbrook Nature Center.

General Information

D ear I tasca Park D istrict Patrons: As summer approaches we have visions of outdoor activities: picnics, ball games, swimming, bike riding-just about any fun filled event that we can participate in for the summer season we have at the Itasca Park District!

The Waterpark will be up and running starting Memorial Day weekend, take advantage and buy your early bird rate pool pass in April! There are themed events and activities happening all summer long at the pool, that will be loads of fun for the entire family. Make sure to also sign up your child for swim lessons- there will be a free week of lessons starting June 6th.

The Itasca Park District has many special events to choose from. Our concerts in the park start June 8th with our residential band, Throw Back Juke Box. There will be six concerts this summer at Usher Park. This year we will have a NEW event offered- Summer Park Parties. There is one each month and filled with FUN and a movie under the stars!

Exciting News! Itasca Park District received confirmation from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources for a $375,000 Capital Museum Grant that was submitted in July 2021 for the Springbrook Nature Center. The current grant that has been awarded will include improvements for: new exterior interpretive signage for the birds of prey mews, new roofs for the bird mews, two new hands-on interactive displays focused on creek, woodland, wetland and prairies, new birds of prey interactive exhibit, two boardwalk section replacements, new side entrance signage and replacement of the entrance sign.

Total projected budget will be $550,000 with the grant covering $375,000 with funding supported by the Village of Itasca $100,000, Itasca Park District $50,000, and other local private and community groups providing $25,000.

Our camp program has expanded over the years and with new offerings you will find an adventure for every child in your home. Our Recreation Supervisor, Erika Rubo, was named the 2021 Young Professional of the Year by Illinois Park & Recreation Association. Erika is the mastermind behind our summer camps and many of our special events.

I have just touched on just a few opportunities we have to offer. Speaking of opportunities, the Itasca Park District offers great part-time and seasonal jobs. These jobs help create lifelong skills or like many of our staff, these part-time jobs turn in to full-time careers.

We are turning the Softball Complex parking lot and fields into an Ale-Gate for a 2-hour tasting window to enjoy some beer, sunshine, and friends.

Pack your tents, chairs, yard games, and food to make your Ale-Gate an afternoon of fun! Sign up for a spot that is claimed by your social group.

Each spot will belong exclusively to that friends/family pod. Your party can check in 30 minutes before your first pour. First pours will begin right at your event time. Each tasting has selected a flavored popcorn to pair with their craft beer. Our day is limited, so pre-registration is required. Like a beer? We will have some for purchase/to go. Join us to help celebrate Arbor Day, a national holiday created to recognize the importance of trees. Mayor Pruyn will kick off the event with the annual Arbor Day Proclamation, followed by the tree dedications. Help beautify our forest by planting some native wildflowers, partake in crafts, as well as some fun giveaways for the first 150 people. SPONSORED BY: Village of Itasca The Davey Tree Expert Company will provide a tree climbing Itasca Park District demonstration and some seedlings. Itasca Girl Scout Troop 55191 will be showcasing their Nature Backpacks, which will make hiking the Nature Center more of an adventure through this free nature backpack rental. Their new program allows families to reserve and check out a backpack containing items that will help in exploring nature. (CC)

Join us for the annual Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 30th beginning at 9:30am. Any group wishing to participate, please contact Erika Rubo at the Itasca Park District by April 29 at 630-773-2257. A Memorial Service will be held immediately following the parade at Usher Park. Due to construction on the North side of town, there will be a new route for 2022. Watch for details. (ER)

Closing Policy: The Itasca Park District reserves the right to close the Waterpark due to severe weather, air temperature below 70 degrees, operational difficulties, or low attendance. No refunds will be given for inclement weather or low attendance.

Patrons are expected to follow all rules and regulations as described in the Itasca Waterpark Rules & Regulations manual. Anyone unwilling to cooperate with the rules will be asked to leave the waterpark.

CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 9 YEARS MUST BE ACCOMPANIED AND DIRECTLY SUPERVISED BY A RESPONSIBLE PERSON AGE 14 YEARS OR OLDER. Parents/Guardians are responsible for supervising their children. Lifeguards are on duty to enforce rules and respond in case of an aquatic emergency.

Aquatic apparel must be worn while in the water.

Waterpark Concession Dollars Eliminate the hassle of giving your children money every day and making sure they have a safe place to keep it while at the pool; purchase a concession card! Please visit the Itasca Recreation Center to purchase this card for $10 or $30. Only your child will be allowed to use their card at the Waterpark concession stand. Cards can be purchased as necessary throughout the summer, but no refunds will be offered for park balances left over at the end of the season.

This program offers a curriculum that encourages participants to succeed and develop important skills. Swim lessons provide an enjoyable learning experience, teach participants how to be safe in and around the water, and give them a lifelong skill that every person should know. Instructors reserve the right to place the participant in the class best suited to his or her ability.

Additionally, it is common for participants to spend more than one session in a certain level; please remember this when registering your child for multiple sessions. Safety classes will take place inside during inclement weather.

No class July 4-8.

These lessons are designed for children ages 1 to 3 years old. Both parent and child will be in the water with the instructor as a group. Classes are meant to familiarize your tot with the water and teach swimming readiness skills while parents will learn how to safely interact with their swimmer in and around the water.

Children who are not toilet-trained must wear a swim diaper and tight-fitting plastic pants over diaper (NO disposable or cloth diapers).

Drop-Off Guidelines Parents: Please bring your child to the pool deck and remain with him/her until the instructor has arrived. Once your child is with his/her teacher, parents should proceed to the designated viewing space which is located in the concession area or on the ramp. Camp Adventure goes on weekly field trips every Thursday.

Participants must provide their own laundry basket, towel, swim suit, lunch, snacks, drink, & water bottle each day unless otherwise specified. Campers should wear comfortable clothing and gym shoes every day.

Please wear sunscreen. We will apply sunscreen prior to leaving for the pool. If you wish to have staff help your child, please provide us with the spray sunscreen labeled with your child’s name.

Counselor in Training The Counselor in Training (CIT) Program is for teens who want to learn to work with children and develop leadership skills. This program is perfect for any teen who wishes to be a counselor one day. CITs will work with either Camp Butterflies or Camp Adventure, under the supervision of the Camp Director and CIT Director. CITs will help set up and lead games, crafts, activities, help clean up, assist all counselors, and assist with supervision at pool time. Potential CITs must fill out an application and come in for an interview, just like a full day counselor. CITs will go through training before camp begins and will meet regularly throughout the summer. The CIT fee includes a t-shirt, field trips, entrance to the waterpark and trainings. Do you like to create or build things? Take this opportunity to get creative and showcase your artistic endeavors by building your own bird feeder, containing bird seed. Every household will be provided an outdoor space to display the bird feeder. Your creation needs to be able to withstand being outdoors for at least two weeks. An informational parent meeting will take place on Monday, August 22nd from 6-6:45pm in the Iris Room. This will give parents a chance to ask questions and review requirements and costs associated with being on the dance team, prior to try-outs.

Try-outs for the team will take place on Tuesday, August 23rd from 5:30pm-7:30pm in the Iris Room. Dancers will learn several short routines and then be evaluated. Prior dance experience is required to participate on team, but all levels of experience will be considered for placement.

Youth Volleyball Camp

ItascaFest 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament

This program is a must for players of all skill levels trying to improve on the fundamentals or learn the game for the first time. We will assist players with their skills and knowledge of passing, serving, defense, setting, blocking and hitting. Players will work on technique, set location, play sets, footwork and overall knowledge of the game. They will learn offensive and defensive systems through team drills and game play aimed at developing the whole player as well as learning teamwork and sportsmanship. Please bring a water bottle. The 25th Annual Tournament will be held the weekend after ItascaFest! Enter a team of three or four to compete in this 3on3 double-elimination tournament. Youth teams will be divided into boy’s and girl’s divisions according to age when possible. Adult teams may have a different format due to the number of teams. O Registration will continue until the class is filled or nline ! needs to be cancelled due to insufficient enrollment or individual program deadlines. Mail-in registration for the Fitness Center and Waterpark passes will not be accepted. Itasca Park District Residents will need proof of residency and children in their household to register for the first time.

Waivers In accordance with Recreation Department policy, all program participants must sign a hold-harmless agreement prior to participation in Department sponsored programs.

The waiver must be signed by adults participating in adult programs, and by a parent or legal guardian for children under 18 years of age.

Complete details of program policies, procedures, and guidelines are sometimes omitted from the program brochures because of space limitations. Also, errors in days, times, registration requirements and fees may occur. We apologize for any errors that may appear in the brochure. We thank you for your patience and understanding when these situations arise.

Definition of Residency Anyone living within the geographic boundaries of the Itasca Park District. If there are any questions about your residency, please call the park district office, where a complete list and map is maintained.

Refund Policy A. All requests for refunds must be submitted in person or by phone two business days prior to the first class meeting or practice of program. Trips require reservations weeks ahead of time and therefore do not allow us to refund. Please see staff for individual trip policies.

B. Individuals requesting refunds with two or more business days notice prior to the first class, meeting, or practice will receive a 100% refund, less $10 for administrative costs.

C. No refunds will be issued for any programs within two days of the first meeting of a program, unless a physician’s excuse is presented. Refunds requested for medical reasons will be prorated from the time the request is received.

D. A refund will not be given to programs that cost less than $15. The amount minus the $10 fee will be applied to another class or a voucher given for future use.

E. Junior Kindergarten, Preschool, and Tiny Tikes Classes have a cancellation fee of $75 for withdrawing any time after registering. Enrichment programs have a $25 cancellation fee.

Insurance Policy The Itasca Park District does not provide medical coverage for injuries suffered while participating in park district programs, or while using park facilities. The park district, therefore, cannot assume responsibility for personal injury for persons participating in recreation programs or using facilities. Persons are advised to make provisions for this coverage in their family insurance program.

Fee Information Due to liability concerns, all individuals wishing to participate in any park district program must pay the registration fee listed in the brochure prior to the start of the first class. Any individual who is unable to pay the registration fee must contact the Superintendent of Recreation to set up a payment plan. No phone registration will be accepted. Individuals not paying full program registration fee, or those on payment plans, will be assessed a 10% service charge if any payment is late.

Itasca Recreation Center Rental The Itasca Recreation Center may be reserved for private use during non-program hours.

Groups and individuals should contact the park district at 630-773-2257 or visit itascaparkdistrict.com/rentals for more information. A Security Deposit is required in order to hold a date. If cancellation occurs within 10 days prior to rental, deposit will be retained. See contract for refund policies.

Cooperation The park district wishes to acknowledge the cooperation of the Village of Itasca and the Itasca School District #10 for enabling the park district to provide numerous year-round recreational activities. The park district is permitted to use the school facilities when not used by the schools. For this reason there may be occasional changes in the schedule.

Senior Citizens Senior Citizen rates apply to those 60 years and older.

In the event of any emergency, I authorize District officials to secure from any licensed hospital, physician, and/or medical personnel any treatment deemed necessary for my minor child’s immediate care, and agree that I will be responsible for payment of any and all medical services rendered.
