Firearm Concealed Carry Act Notice The Firearms Concealed Carry Act, which became state law in July 2013 requires an Illinois Concealed Carry License in order to carry a concealed firearm in Illinois. The law forbids carrying a concealed weapon into government buildings, schools and parks. As a requirement of the law, Illinois State Police approved signs indicating the ban are now posted at the Itasca Recreation & Fitness Center and Springbrook Nature Center.

Itasca Park District re-organized, re-developed and learned new ways to connect with our

residents and community during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was a spring and summer like no other, but with the help of staff, board of commissioners and our amazing community we came together unlike ever before.

While the Rec Center was closed, maintenance staff deep cleaned the entire facility, updated 130 gymnasium and fitness center lights to LEDs, moved the fitness center welcome desk and created a second floor lobby which includes a dance program waiting area. The Ray Frazen Bird Sanctuary received a prescribed burn on Monday, April 20. This helps reduce the catastrophic damage of wildfire on our lands and maintaining the many plant and animal species whose habitats depend on periodic fire. During phase 3 the Park District opened its tennis courts, started outdoor fitness classes and fitness equipment rentals and on-site Summer Camp and continued virtual programs and events. The Park District along with the Village of Itasca began free Drive-in Concerts at the Rec Center.

Now in Phase 4, the Park District opened the Itasca Fitness Center, the Itasca Waterpark and playgrounds. On-site summer camp, gymnastics and dance classes and events took place at the Rec Center & Springbrook Nature Center. The Itasca Park District is following all guidelines put in place by the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Park District Risk Management Agency. We have enjoyed seeing our residents and patrons back at the Park District. The Staff and Commissioners will continue to provide the best recreation opportunities possible to our community as we enter the fall and winter season. Junior Naturalist Club Do you want to learn more about nature and how we can help protect it? Maybe you like to fish, canoe, hike, camp, and roast marshmallows. If this sounds exciting, you should become a Junior Naturalist (JN). The JN club is a group of kids that love to have a good time and help out. The JNs explore, hike, work special events and restoration projects, take care of the animals in the building and much more! This club meets once a week, usually on Fridays at the Nature Center. A newsletter with dates, times, activities and other important information is provided every few months. Spots are limited in this club, so don't miss out on a once in a lifetime opportunity! Dissecting Owl Pellets Learn about the eating habits of the owls living at Springbrook Nature Center. Do you know what an owl pellet is? Owls usually swallow their prey whole, and they regurgitate what they cannot digest. Starved Rock Trolley Tour Board a Starved Rock Trolley outside of the Great Hall of the Lodge for their most popular tour! First stop is at the Starved Rock State Park Visitor Center where you watch a short video of the area. Then, you explore the Illinois Waterway Visitor Center where you can check out Starved Rock from across the river and watch as cargo barges pass through the lock system. Next, the trolley heads to historic Utica to learn about the Illinois and Michigan Canal. While aboard, the driver narrates the history and legends of the area. Join Itasca’s Inner Prestige Dance Team!

The Itasca Inner Prestige Dance Team is back for its 10th year!

The team participates in a variety of competitions, events and performances throughout the year.

Although Dance Team is full of fun, it is also a big commitment and a lot of hard work. There are three levels to our team. Level placement will be decided at auditions.

Children’s Dance This class is designed to help your child recognize their own individuality and body mobility while helping them develop coordination. The time will be split equally between ballet and tap dance. Students need tap shoes, ballet shoes, a leotard, and tights.

Tap/Ballet Classes Half of this class will be devoted to ballet and barre work, while the other half will focus on tap. Dancers will develop basic ballet and tap technique. Combinations in both ballet and tap will be introduced so that dancers can experience putting steps together.

Tap/Jazz Classes Dancers will focus on jazz techniques like the isolation of certain body parts and tap techniques such as finding rhythms and beats in the music and their bodies. Students will need jazz shoes, tap shoes and comfortable dance attire.

Hip Hop This class introduces students to the basic vocabulary and style of hip hop movement.

It’s all about a dancer’s personal style and expression. This is a high energy class designed for anyone with a passion to move. Students will need comfortable clothing and either jazz shoes or danceable gym shoes.

Lyrical Many different styles combined produce a new modern version of Ballet and Jazz.

Dancers will focus on floor work, patterns of movement and self-expression as well as elements of improvisation. Students will need a leotard and footless tights.

Ballet Technique Students work on ballet vocabulary, placement, structure, and all around Ballet technique. Dancers will need ballet shoes, a leotard, and tights.

Dance Team Workshop This class is specifically designed for Dance Team members on the intermediate and advanced level teams to work on their solos, duets, and trios.

Team members are required to sign on for the entire year. Members of the advanced and intermediate team level are required to attend all scheduled practices each week.

The Inner Prestige Mini team is for those interested in joining the team and competing, but are not yet ready for the intermediate and advanced level competition team. The mini team will practice twice a week and will only perform group routines at competitions. Solos, duets, and trios are reserved specifically for the more advanced team members.

The Itasca Park District is proud to offer installment billing to help alleviate the upfront cost of the dance team. Paperwork must be completed at the Itasca Rec Center front desk and a voided check must be presented.

Below is the Dance Team Schedule. Dancers are required to attend all practices weekly.

If a team member should register for other dance classes, they will receive a 15% discount on each class. Recommended classes are Ballet Technique, Lyrical, and Dance Team Workshop, but are not required.

IBSL Fall Ball IBSL Fall Ball will take a lighter approach in comparison to our Summer IBSL program.

Safe Sitter

The Itasca Park District offers teens in Grade 6th-8th from Peacock Middle School or St. Luke's School the opportunity to volunteer throughout the school year. By volunteering at the park district, teens can fulfill required community service hours.

Safe Sitter® prepares students in grades 6-8 to be safe when they’re home alone, watching younger siblings, or babysitting. Students learn life-saving skills such as how to rescue someone who’s choking, and helpful information like what to do if there’s severe weather. The lessons are filled with fun activities and role-playing exercises.

Students even get to use CPR manikins to practice CPR and choking rescue! Students should bring a lunch, water bottle, and a baby doll or stuffed animal. (ER)

A. All requests for refunds must be submitted in person or by phone two business days prior to the first class meeting or practice of program. Trips require reservations weeks ahead of time and therefore do not allow us to refund. Please see staff for individual trip policies.

B. Individuals requesting refunds with two or more business days notice prior to the first class, meeting, or practice will receive a 100% refund, less $10 for administrative costs.

C. No refunds will be issued for any programs within two days of the first meeting of a program, unless a physician’s excuse is presented. Refunds requested for medical reasons will be prorated from the time the request is received.

D. A refund will not be given to programs that cost less than $15. The amount minus the $10 fee will be applied to another class or a voucher given for future use.

E. Junior Kindergarten, Preschool, and Tiny Tikes Classes have a cancellation fee of $75 for withdrawing any time after registering. Enrichment programs have a $25 cancellation fee.

Registration will continue until the class is filled or needs to be cancelled due to insufficient enrollment or individual program deadlines. Mail-in registration for the Fitness Center and Waterpark passes will not be accepted. Itasca Park District Residents will need proof of residency and children in their household to register for the first time.

Waivers In accordance with Recreation Department policy, all program participants must sign a hold-harmless agreement prior to participation in Department sponsored programs.

The waiver must be signed by adults participating in adult programs, and by a parent or legal guardian for children under 18 years of age.

In Case of Oops!

Complete details of program policies, procedures, and guidelines are sometimes omitted from the program brochures because of space limitations. Also, errors in days, times, registration requirements and fees may occur. We apologize for any errors that may appear in the brochure. We thank you for your patience and understanding when these situations arise.

The Itasca Park District does not provide medical coverage for injuries suffered while participating in park district programs, or while using park facilities. The park district, therefore, cannot assume responsibility for personal injury for persons participating in recreation programs or using facilities. Persons are advised to make provisions for this coverage in their family insurance program.

Fee Information Due to liability concerns, all individuals wishing to participate in any park district program must pay the registration fee listed in the brochure prior to the start of the first class. Any individual who is unable to pay the registration fee must contact the Superintendent of Recreation to set up a payment plan. No phone registration will be accepted. Individuals not paying full program registration fee, or those on payment plans, will be assessed a 10% service charge if any payment is late.

Itasca Recreation Center Rental The Itasca Recreation Center may be reserved for private use during non-program hours.

Groups and individuals should contact the park district at 630-773-2257 or visit itascaparkdistrict.com/rentals for more information. A Security Deposit is required in order to hold a date. If cancellation occurs within 10 days prior to rental, deposit will be retained.

Cooperation The park district wishes to acknowledge the cooperation of the Village of Itasca and the Itasca School District #10 for enabling the park district to provide numerous year-round recreational activities. The park district is permitted to use the school facilities when not used by the schools. For this reason there may be occasional changes in the schedule.

Senior Citizens Senior Citizen rates apply to those 60 years and older.
