Firearm Concealed Carry Act Notice

The Firearms Concealed Carry Act, which became state law in July 2013 requires an Illinois Concealed Carry License in order to carry a concealed firearm in Illinois. The law forbids carrying a concealed weapon into government buildings, schools and parks. As a requirement of the law, Illinois State Police approved signs indicating the ban are now posted at the Itasca Recreation & Fitness Center and Springbrook Nature Center. Dear Residents of the Itasca Park District, When you enter the lobby of the recreation center you will notice several large, round plaques that represent the Itasca Park District as being a Gold Medal Finalist for the National Recreation and Park Association for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management Award. In addition you will see 3 plaques naming the Itasca Park District as winner in Class V, population 30,000 and below.

This past September your park district was announced the winner for the third time. Glencoe, Illinois, Homewood-Flossmoor, Illinois and Windsor, Colorado were the three other finalist in Class V. Previous years of receiving the Gold Medal were 2003 and 2009. We were the only Illinois district in all categories this year to be honored with the Gold Medal. You may think "What's the big deal"? In parks and recreation IT IS A BIG DEAL. The Gold Medal Award is the Academy Award for park districts. The panel of judges looks at the district's accomplishments, facilities, parks, programs, future plans, grant awards, economic stability and intergovernmental cooperation. A video is submitted with a visual presentation of the district's attributes. To be recognized on a national level says volumes for the Itasca Park District.

It proves that the district is continually improving all aspects of its operation for the benefit of its residents. From rebuilding parks, adding new and innovative programs, working with the Village of Itasca in bringing community events all year long, to partnering with our intergovernmental bodies; the Itasca Park District's main goal is to make a difference in the lives of our residents. It all stems down from Executive Director Maryfran Leno. She is the driving force that, with the board approval, keeps the Itasca Park District operating as a Gold Medal winner.

Holiday Drop & Shop

Visit Santa’s Workshop at the Nature Center! Kids will meet with Santa and parents may take photos in this festive atmosphere! We will have cookies and hot chocolate, and make some holiday crafts. (KMc)

Bunny Tea Party

Adult Eggstravaganza

Time for tea with everyone's favorite bunny! Kids will have a blast at this “Eggcellent” program. We'll play games, decorate cupcakes, and build our very own stuffed bunny, complete with a hand-designed t-shirt. The Bunny will drop by for pictures with all the kids and their new furry friends. Everyone will go home with a festive picture frame to remember their day. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Egg Hunts are not just for kids! Get your running shoes on and be ready for an intense egg hunt! Hundreds of eggs will be hidden throughout Washington Park and they won’t be easy to spot. Inside the eggs, you’ll find coupons to various local businesses and park district services, and of course, candy! No excuses allowed as we will also offer free babysitting in our Kids Klub during the hunt. Don’t forget your flashlights! If there is inclement weather, the hunt will be relocated indoors.

Water Easter Egg Hunt

Get ready to jump in the pool and gather up some of the hundreds of floating Easter Eggs in this super-fun Water Egg Hunt! Inside each colorful egg is a hidden surprise of candy or a toy; some lucky eggs are redeemable for a prize! Bags to collect the eggs will be provided. Please note pool depth is 3’6" to 5’. An adult MUST accompany all children. Parents are welcome to swim with their children. Kids ages 5 years and under MUST be directly supervised by an adult in and out of the water. This is the ultimate Easter event for Itasca families! The Easter Bunny will be out and about hiding special treats for youngsters to find. Illinois Holocaust Museum Join us as we spend the day enjoying and learning at the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center in Skokie. The museum is dedicated to preserving the legacy of the Holocaust by honoring the memories of those who were lost and by teaching universal lessons that combat hatred, prejudice and indifference. Waterpark Concession Dollars

If you would like your child to be able to purchase concessions at the pool, you must purchase a concession card at the front desk for $30 or $10. This card will be given to the Camp Director and he/she will be responsible for monitoring what campers are purchasing and spending. Camp staff will not be responsible for lost or stolen money. Campers who do not have a concession card will not be permitted to go to the concession stand during pool time. All concession cards with balances will be returned for use during the rest of the pool season.

General Information • The Itasca Summer Day Camps follow the Itasca School District #10 Calendar. • Refunds or pro-rated fees will not be granted if a camper misses camp, no exceptions! • Camp Butterflies and Camp Adventure will go to the Itasca Waterpark M/W/F afternoons (unless pool is closed due to low attendance or inclement weather) • Camp Adventure has weekly field trips every Thursday. • Participants must provide their own lunch, drink, & water bottle each day unless otherwise specified. • Please wear sunscreen. We will apply sunscreen prior to leaving for the pool. Calling all Itasca artists! The Itasca Historical Depot Museum is hosting its first “Itasca on Display” Art Contest. Young and old alike are encouraged to submit their Itasca-centered artwork. All medias are encouraged and participants will be broken up into age categories depending on the number of entries. We will host a gallery showing on Friday, May 25th at 6pm at the Museum Campus. Inter-Village Soccer League Registration Deadline: Mon Mar 18

Registration will be accepted on first-come, first-serve basis on dates beginning November 27th. Efforts will be made to place registrants on a team. However once a team is filled, registrants will be placed on a wait list in an effort to create another team. Participants will be informed of team placement by their coach on or before Monday, April 2. *Participants must register in the age division designated by grade.

Practices and Games Itasca Inter-Village Soccer plays in the Mid Suburban Soccer League other districts included are Addison, Bensenville, Bloomingdale, Glendale Heights, Medinah, Roselle, Villa Park and Wood Dale. Practices are once or twice per week with practice days and times at the discretion of the coach. Games will be played on Saturdays April 21-June 9. No games will be played on Memorial Day Weekend. Time and location of games will determined by league schedules which will be determined no later than Friday, April 13.

All players must wear an Itasca Park District uniform. Uniforms must be purchased at the time of Registration. A sample of all sizes will be available at the registration desk. A complete uniform consists of a jersey, shorts, socks, shin guards and soccer shoes. Coaches

The Itasca Park District Soccer League is extremely popular and has a large number of participants and teams. Without our fantastic volunteer coaches we would be unable to offer such a wonderful program. The park district is currently looking for parents or adults to volunteer as a coach or an assistant coach. Please indicate on your child's registration form if you are interested in coaching.

Coed Soccer League Each team will practice approximately one day a week and play a seven-game schedule. Online registration not available for this program. Coed Soccer League Spring soccer will be playing with a new format in accordance with the US Youth Soccer organization. Smaller fields and teams will allow for players to achieve the following: to touch the soccer ball more often which will enhance their individual technique and tactical development, receive more individual teaching time with their coach, receive more involved playing time in games, and most importantly to have more opportunities to score to enhance excitement. U6 Micro Soccer Micro Soccer is a scaled-down version of the game of soccer specifically designed for young children. Children will play 3 vs. 3 on a smaller soccer field. Coaches are allowed on the field and no score is kept. This program is geared toward children who have mastered Pee Wee Soccer, yet are not old enough to join the Itasca Inter-Village Soccer League. Each team will practice a minimum of one day per week. Games will be played each Saturday with surrounding Park Districts. Players need to wear shin guards and bring a size three (3) ball to each practice and game. Please indicate on your registration form if you are interested in coaching. *Fee includes jersey. Kids Karate Club

A parent or another adult will enjoy time with their child learning the skills, moves, and joy of playing America's most popular youth sport! Emphasis will be on the basic skills of soccer such as dribbling, passing, and shooting; all in a fun and relaxed environment. Age appropriate drills, games, and equipment will be used to help tots develop motor skills, coordination, balance, and listening skills. Adults will enjoy playing alongside and assisting their youngsters as they get their first taste of soccer fun! (SD)

This high energy program is specifically designed for children ages 4 through 14. Kids will learn the basics in karate, self-defense, sparring, and safety. Parents may participate with their children at no additional cost as part of our Parent Helper Program. Start Smart Golf

Pee Wee Soccer is a non-competitive program designed to introduce kids ages 4-6 to beginner soccer fundamentals and skills. This program prepares young soccer players to participate in the Boys' and Girls' Leagues and also gives adults interested in coaching the rules and skills necessary for coaching. Participants need to wear hard plastic shin guards and bring a Size 3 soccer ball. Pee Wee Soccer is a volunteer coach run program, so If you are interested in becoming an adult volunteer, please indicate so on your registration form. (SD)

Hitting/Pitching/Catching Clinic

Prepare for the upcoming baseball and softball seasons. Swing analysis, live pitching and other techniques are a part of this program. The advanced, intermediate and beginner hitters can all benefit from this step-by-step approach to learning. Pitchers work on the form needed to increase the speed of the fastball and protect their throwing arm. Boys learn the rocker step for pitching as well as various age appropriate grips. Girls learn the windmill form of pitching and different grips. Catchers are taught how to help get strike calls for their team. Different techniques to throw out base runners are also included. Join our Recreational Gymnastics “Team” The Recreational team gives each child the opportunity to become part of a “team” activity. There are three team levels designated by color of their own workout leotard included with registration. Returning students will receive a new leotard when they advance to the next color level.

Team/Rec Gymnastics Open Gym Looking for a little extra practice time in the gym? Open Gym is a perfect time to polish your skills and even try out a few new ones! Participants must be enrolled in Recreational Gymnastics Classes, Team, or Dance/Cheer Class to attend. Register for all 4 dates by enrolling in section 5 and receive a $5 discount!

Optional competitions will be held in January and in May. Children are eligible to participate in these competitions after they have participated in at least 8 weeks.

We compete in local meets as well as out of state; our girls consistently qualify for the State and Regional meets. Participation on this team is by invitation only. Dance

DANCE Children’s Dance

This class is designed to help your child recognize their own individuality and body mobility while helping them develop coordination. The time will be split equally between ballet and tap dance. Students need tap shoes, ballet shoes, a leotard, and tights.

Tap/Ballet Classes Half of the class will be devoted to ballet and barre work, while the other half will focus on tap. Dancers will develop basic ballet and tap technique. Combinations in both ballet and tap will be introduced so that dancers can experience putting steps together.

Ballet Technique

Tap/Jazz Classes

Students work on ballet vocabulary, placement, structure, and all around Ballet technique. Students will need ballet shoes, a leotard, and tights.

Dancers will focus on jazz techniques like the isolation of certain body parts and tap techniques such as finding rhythms and beats in the music and their bodies. Students will need jazz shoes, tap shoes, and comfortable dance attire.

Dance Team Workshop

Hip Hop This class introduces students to the basic vocabulary and style of hip hop movement. It’s all about a dancer’s personal style and expression. This is a high energy class designed for anyone with a passion to move. Students will need comfortable clothing and either jazz shoes or danceable gym shoes.

This class combines many different styles to produce a new modern version of Ballet and Jazz. Dancers will focus on floor work, patterns of movement and self-expression as well as elements of improvisation. Students will need a leotard and footless tights.

The 2018 Spring Dance Recital will be:

Date: Saturday, June 9th Location: Lake Park High School West Campus. A dress rehearsal will take place on Friday, June 8th at the same location. Recital pictures will take place on Wednesday, June 6th in the Dance Studio. Specific schedules will be distributed closer to the above dates.

This class is specifically designed for Dance Team members on the intermediate and advanced level teams to work on their solos, duets and trios.

Private Lessons and Semi Private Lessons Available with Ms. Darla! Private Lessons or Semi Private Lessons are available with Ms. Darla. For more information or to schedule a lesson, please fill out a request form at the Itasca Rec Center. Lessons are $40 for a 1-hour lesson.

Costume Information! Costume measurements will be taken at the beginning of class the week of January 15th! Size recommendation forms and payment are due at class the week of January 29th. A parent is required to attend that class to verify size and provide payment.

Beginner Line Dance – Adult class! Do you love music, like to dance, but don't have a partner? Learn to line dance! Each dance is a pattern of steps that repeats throughout the song. We'll learn about 10-12 different dances within a six week session to country, pop, rock, oldies, and current hits. Step sheets and video reviews are included so you'll remember what you learn. Safe Sitter This class will help you land babysitting jobs and make you feel confident to babysit. Babysitting Service Caring and qualified staff will watch over your children in a safe environment while you run errands, keep personal appointments, or if you just need a break. Your personal trainer will design an exercise program tailored to meet your fitness goals at your fitness level. Our trainers will help you stick with your program. Sessions are by appointment only. Looking for a way to get some exercise, have fun and fulfill your goal of participating in a 5K? Condition yourself to run three miles safely and effectively in this 10-week, walk-to-run program. Dr. Erin Ducat and her team at Ducat Chiropractic & Sports Medicine lead each session that includes educational workshops on proper stretching, shoes, equipment, heart rate monitoring and strengthening. Water is provided and pace leaders are CPR certified. Please wear comfortable clothing with athletic socks and shoes. Participants should be able to comfortably walk for 30 minutes before starting the program and upon completion will be able to run 3.1 miles and will receive discounted registration in the April Fool 5K Run in Bloomingdale. In the event of inclement weather, we will be using the indoor track at the Roselle Park District. Residents of Itasca Park District, register at the Itasca Rec Center to receive the resident rate. A one-hour class that tones and strengthens your Glutes, Guts, and Guns with instructor Tracy Gonzales! This class will use all types of resistance equipment, as well as your own body weight.

Boot Camp A one-hour class that offers a great way to get fit and lose body fat. You will work your heart and muscles by going from one exercise to the next for the entire hour. Boot Camp will include calisthenics like push-ups, jumping jacks, crunches, and other body weight exercises at different intensities, taking your body to a challenge. This class burns calories like crazy!!!!

Lunch Time Yoga Enjoy the practice of physical postures, gentle stretching, and deep relaxation, which helps bring balance to our busy lives. (45 minutes)

F.I.I.T.

PIYO

Functional Intensity Interval Training: This hour-long class taught by Personal Trainer Tom Koziol emphasizes total body function, strength, and endurance. You will get the most out of this workout and will be sure to break a sweat.

This one-hour class is a blend of Pilates and Yoga, but set at a faster pace and adds more aerobic endurance. Expect to sweat and feel the burn!!

Teen fitness Teen Provisions ■ Must be at least 11 years old to

use the Fitness Center. ■ 11-13 year olds are required to

attend a teen weight training class prior to joining the Fitness Center. ■ 14-17 year olds must have a

parent with them when purchasing any of the Fitness Center passes (daily, six months, yearly, open gym, and track only) to sign a waiver. Waivers are kept on file; the parent does not need to be present each visit.

Teen Weight Training

Teens 11-13 years of age may become a fitness member after completing a 2-hour Teen Weight Training Class. The class covers injury prevention, proper concentration of each muscle group, breathing, and lifting techniques. Proper warm-up and cardiovascular conditioning is also covered. Upon completion of this class, the teen will need to purchase their One-Year Fitness Membership to be an active Fitness Member. The fee for the membership is $67/$77. (BK) AGE: 11-13yrs DAY DATE

How to Register

Regis Registration will begin on Monday, Nov 27. t Registration will continue until the class is filled or Onlin er e! needs to be cancelled due to insufficient enrollment or individual program deadlines. Mail-in registration for the Fitness Center and Waterpark passes will not be accepted. Itasca Park District Residents will need proof of residency and children in their household to register for the first time since December 1, 2014. Waivers In accordance with Recreation Department policy, all program participants must sign a hold-harmless agreement prior to participation in Department sponsored programs. The waiver must be signed by adults participating in adult programs, and by a parent or legal guardian for children under 18 years of age.

In Case of Oops! Complete details of program policies, procedures, and guidelines are sometimes omitted from the program brochures because of space limitations. Also, errors in days, times, registration requirements and fees may occur. We apologize for any errors that may appear in the brochure. We thank you for your patience and understanding when these situations arise.

A. All requests for refunds must be submitted in person or by phone two business days prior to the first class meeting or practice of program. Trips require reservations weeks ahead of time and therefore do not allow us to refund. Please see staff for individual trip policies. B. Individuals requesting refunds with two or more business days notice prior to the first class, meeting, or practice will receive a 100% refund, less $10 for administrative costs. C. No refunds will be issued for any programs within two days of the first meeting of a program, unless a physicianâ€™s excuse is presented. Refunds requested for medical reasons will be prorated from the time the request is received. D. A refund will not be given to programs that cost less than $15. The amount minus the $10 fee will be applied to another class or a voucher given for future use.

Insurance Policy The Itasca Park District does not provide medical coverage for injuries suffered while participating in park district programs, or while using park facilities. The park district, therefore, cannot assume responsibility for personal injury for persons participating in recreation programs or using facilities. Persons are advised to make provisions for this coverage in their family insurance program.

Fee Information

Due to liability concerns, all individuals wishing to participate in any park district program must pay the registration fee listed in the brochure prior to the start of the first class. Any individual who is unable to pay the registration fee must contact the Superintendent of Recreation to set up a payment plan. No phone registration will be accepted. Individuals not paying full program registration fee, or those on payment plans, will be assessed a 10% service charge if any payment is late.

Itasca Recreation Center Rental

The Itasca Recreation Center may be reserved for private use during non-program hours. Groups and individuals should contact the park district at 630-773-2257 or visit www.itascaparkdistrict.com/rentals for more information. A Security Deposit is required in order to hold a date. If cancellation occurs within 10 days prior to rental, deposit will be retained. See contract for refund policies.

Cooperation

The park district wishes to acknowledge the cooperation of the Village of Itasca and the Itasca School District #10 for enabling the park district to provide numerous year-round recreational activities. The park district is permitted to use the school facilities when not used by the schools. For this reason there may be occasional changes in the schedule.

Insurance Liability Waiver Form Please read this form carefully and be aware that in signing up and participating in the use of Park District/Nature Center Village programs, you will be waiving and releasing all claims for injuries you might sustain arising out of the activities of this program. “As the parent/guardian of the participant, or participant in the program, I recognize and acknowledge that there are certain risks of physical injury and I agree to assume the full risk of any injuries, including death, damages, or loss which I may sustain as a result of participating in any and all activities connected with or associated with such program. “I agree to waive and relinquish all claims I may have as a result of participating in the program against the Park District and its officers, agents, servants, and employees. “I do hereby fully release and discharge the Park District and its officers, agents, servants, and employees from any and all claims from injuries, including death, damage, or loss which I may have or which may have accrue to me on account of my participation.

“I further agree to indemnify and hold harmless and defend the Park District and its officers, agents, servants, and employees from any and all claims resulting from injuries, including death, damages, and losses sustained by me and arising out of, connected with, or in any way associated with the activities of the program. In the event of any emergency, I authorize District officials to secure from any licensed hospital, physician, and/or medical personnel any treatment deemed necessary for my minor child’s immediate care, and agree that I will be responsible for payment of any and all medical services rendered. “Photo/video”: I understand that my child/ward or I may be photographed or videotaped while participating in an Itasca Park District Program. I give permission for photos & videos of my child/ward or me to be used in the brochure, website, social media and other promotional materials. Such photos and videos are property of the Itasca Park District. “I have read and fully understand the above Program Details and Participation agreement.” Please sign on first signature line above.
