Firearm Concealed Carry Act Notice The Firearms Concealed Carry Act, which became state law in July 2013 requires an Illinois Concealed Carry License in order to carry a concealed firearm in Illinois. The law forbids carrying a concealed weapon into government buildings, schools and parks. As a requirement of the law, Illinois State Police approved signs indicating the ban are now posted at the Itasca Recreation & Fitness Center and Springbrook Nature Center.

I hope everyone had a wonderful summer. I know that the Itasca Park District was able to offer more programs and events than in the past two years due to the pandemic. So many patrons took advantage of our parks and recreational programs.

Our lives are constantly filled with “Firsts.” I am sure that many of you and your families have experienced these Firsts at the Itasca Park District. Just think about it…

The mission of the Itasca Park District is to efficiently and economically provide education, recreation, facilities and open space that are designed to provide health and wellness, social equity and conservation experiences that benefit the community.

The Itasca Park District welcomes the opportunity to assist guests with disabilities to enjoy ALL of our facilities, programs, and services. Any individual with a special need should contact our staff upon registration so that we can make the necessary accommodations. Conduct Policy Behavior: Participants are expected to exhibit appropriate behavior at all times.

The following guidelines have been developed to help make Itasca Park District programs safe and enjoyable for all participants. The Park District reserves the right to develop additional rules for particular programs and athletic leagues as deemed necessary by staff and the park board. Participants shall: ■ Show respect to all participants and staff ■ Refrain from using foul language ■ Refrain from causing bodily harm to other participants or staff ■ Refrain from damaging equipment, supplies, and facilities Discipline: Itasca Park District reserves the right to dismiss a participant for infraction of

the code of conduct. Each situation will be evaluated on its own merit.

We invite any participant with a special need to contact our staff upon registration so that a smooth inclusion may occur. In addition to the programs listed on this page, our district provides additional services for people with disabilities through Northeast DuPage Special Recreation Association.

Nothing ruins a good program quicker... than everyone waiting until the last minute to register. Please register one week prior to the first class to avoid disappointment.

What is a 0.5K Beer & Donut Run? Some of you may have heard of a 5k, 10k, or even marathons, but what about the 0.5k? We are making your training for this race easier than the rest of them. This is for those who enjoy their Saturday's with a little more laidback style! The race is perfect, just a loop around the Bird Sanctuary; just try not to spill your beer (it's bad for the grass) and finish that donut! There will not be an official timekeeper for the race because we are all winners! Afterwards, kickback and relax where there will be more Church Street Brewery beverages for purchase.

What does my fee include? Your entry fee reserves your spot on race day and qualifies you for participation in the 0.5k Beer & Donut Run and includes an event t-shirt, event race cup, and (oh, by the way) a pint of racing beer or seltzer from Church Street Brewery and a donut! (Must be registered by September 10th to guarantee t-shirt size.)

Must be 21+ to participate. IDs will be checked at check-in. After the event, bring your own chairs to enjoy time with friends, yard games and grab some grub from the Spoon Burger Food Truck. Ready for some Halloween fun? The Itasca Park District and Village of Itasca are excited to invite your family to an afternoon of Halloween activities. Enjoy free pony rides, bounce house, games, pumpkin decorating and more. Gingerbread Man Scavenger Hunt

"Run! Run! As fast as you can! As fast as you can! You can't catch me, I'm the Gingerbread Man!" The Gingerbread Man is back and once again escaped Grandma's kitchen and we need help finding him! Participants will find and solve clues, puzzles, and riddles hidden around Itasca. Complete anytime between December 2nd and December 11th.

Email correct locations the Gingerbread Man visited to erubo@itascaparkdistrict.com to be entered for a prize.

P olar Express Storytime Train It’s back so register early! Itasca Park District residents will receive priority registration from Aug 15-31.

Non-residents may register beginning September 1. Join us for one of Itasca’s favorite events! We will meet at the Metra Train Station in Itasca and board the train for a fun-filled trip. Junior Naturalist Club

Join our Winter Young Explorers designed for the youngest nature enthusiasts. Learn about Itasca Nature Center's wild animals and how they survive the cold months. Get the chance to meet some live critters, participate in fun games, activities, and art projects. (CC)

Do you want to learn more about nature and how we can help protect it? Maybe you like to garden, go on creek walks, explore nature, and roast marshmallows. If this sounds exciting, you should become a Junior Naturalist (JN). The JN club is a group of kids that love to have a good time and help out at the Nature Center. The JNs help work special events, participate in restoration projects, take care of the animals in the building, and much more! This club meets once a week, usually on Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays at the Nature Center. A newsletter with exact dates, times, activities and other important information is provided every few months. Spots are limited in this club, so don't miss out on a once in a lifetime opportunity! The 2022 grant will include improvements for: Itasca Park District received new exterior interpretive signage for the birds confirmation from the Illinois of prey mews, new roofs for the bird mews, Department of Natural Resources two new hands-on interactive displays focused for a $375,000 Capital Museum Capital Museum Grant on creek, woodland, wetland and prairies, Grant that was submitted in July 2021 for new birds of prey interactive exhibit, two the Springbrook Nature Center. Illinois Public boardwalk section replacements, new side entrance signage and replacement of Museum Capital Grants Program, administered by the Illinois Department of the entrance sign. Total projected budget will be $550,000 with the grant Natural Resources, is open to any museum operated by local government or covering $375,000 with funding supported by the Village of Itasca $100,000, located on municipally owned land. Itasca Park District is one of seven other Itasca Park District $50,000, and other local private and community groups DuPage County government agencies that were awarded the grant in March providing $25,000.

We compete in local meets as well as out of state; our girls consistently qualify to the State and Regional meets. Participation on thisteam is by invitation only. Preschool Gymnastics Class

More gymnastics than ever before, with equipment geared towards the preschool child.

Strong focus is placed on the development of basic motor and locomotive skills in this one hour class. All children must be toilet trained, no pullups please.

Children are eligible to participate in these competitions after they have participated in at least 8 weeks. Each meet season is 16 weeks long. Divided into 2 eight-week sessions, if your child begins class after 9 weeks then they are not eligible to participate in the competition for the season. It is highly recommended that you register for both 8-week sessions at one time.

Dance Class Descriptions Dance with Me Explore dance and creative movement with your dancer! Class will focus on engaging your young dancer with familiar music, while introducing them to basic dance technique and fine motor skills. Memory, coordination, and listening and sharing skills will be built. Comfortable clothing or dance attire is recommended for both dancers and parents. Open to dancers ages 1-3.

Children’s Dance This class is designed as an introduction to dance and creative movement. Class time will be spent exploring the basic fundamentals of ballet and tap dance in a fun and supportive environment. Tap shoes, ballet shoes, a leotard, and tights are required.

Tap/Ballet Classes Dancers learn proper technique for both styles of dance, and will be introduced to dance terminology. Inner Prestige

An informational parent meeting will take place on Monday, August 22nd from 6-6:45pm in the Iris Room. This will give parents a chance to ask questions and review requirements and costs associated with being on the dance team, prior to try-outs.

The Itasca Inner Prestige Dance Team will be back in the fall for its 12th year!

The team participates in a variety of competitions, events and performances throughout the year.

Try-outs for the team will take place on Tuesday, August 23rd from 5:30pm-7:30pm in the Iris Room. Dancers will learn several short routines and then be evaluated. Prior dance experience is required to participate on team, but all levels of experience will be considered for placement.

Dance Team!

Although Dance Team is full of fun, it is also a big commitment and a lot of hard work. Team members are required to sign on for the entire year. Members are required to attend all scheduled practices each week.

There will be a Dance Team Prep Clinic from August 24th through September 9th for 2022-2023 members. Details will be given at try-outs.

Registration will be accepted on first-come, first-serve basis on dates listed below. Efforts will be made to place registrants on a team. However once a team is filled, registrants will be placed on a wait list in an effort to create another team. Participants will be informed of team placement by their coach before the first week of practice. *Participants must register in the age division designated using birth year of the participant.

Practices and Games

Itasca Inter-Village Soccer plays in the Mid Suburban Soccer League other districts included are Addison, Bensenville, Bloomingdale, Glendale Heights, Medinah, Roselle, Villa Park and Wood Dale. Practices are once or twice per week with practice days and times at the discretion of the coach. Games will be played on Saturdays Sep 10-Oct 22.

Uniforms

All players must wear an Itasca Park District uniform. Uniforms must be purchased at the time of Registration. A sample of all sizes will be available at the registration desk. A complete uniform consists of a jersey, shorts, socks, shin guards and soccer shoes.

Equipment

All participants are required to wear shin guards underneath their socks at all practices and games.

Players must bring a soccer ball to practice each day. U6 & U8 will need to have a Size 3 ball; U10 will need to purchase a Size 4 ball, while U12 and U14 will need a Size 5 ball.

Volunteer Coaches

The Itasca Park District Soccer League is extremely popular and has a large number of participants and teams. Without our fantastic volunteer coaches we would be unable to offer such a wonderful program. The park district is currently looking for parents or adults to volunteer as a coach or an assistant coach. Please indicate on your childs registration form if you are interested in coaching.

U6 Micro Soccer Micro Soccer is a scaled-down version of the game of soccer specifically designed for young children. Children will play 3 vs. 3 on a smaller soccer field. Coaches are allowed on the field and no score is kept. This program is geared toward children who have mastered Pee Wee Soccer, yet are not old enough to join the Itasca Inter-Village Soccer League. Each team will practice one day per week, depending on coaching availability. Games will be played on Saturdays each week. Players need to wear shin guards and bring a size three (3) ball to each practice and game. Please let us know if you are interested in coaching. *Fee includes t-shirt. Coed Soccer League Itasca Aces Soccer League will now provide professional training and practices for players who wish to further develop their soccer skills. The program will also emphasize sporting behavior and fun!

Fall soccer will be playing with a new format in accordance with the US Youth Soccer organization. Smaller fields and teams will allow for players to achieve the following: to touch the soccer ball more often which will enhance their individual technique and tactical development, receive more individual teaching time with their coach, receive more involved playing time in games, and most importantly to have more opportunities to score to enhance excitement.

Boys and girls learn jump shots, shots off the glass, lay-ups, shooting from a pass and shooting off the dribble. Shooting games are also a part of class. No Class Nov. 23 (TG)

IBSL Fall Ball will take a lighter approach in comparison to our Summer IBSL Program.

Players will practice on Thursdays as coaches work with players to improve skills and techniques to prepare players for the next season. The Itasca and Wood Dale Park Districts cooperatively offer a youth basketball league specifically for kids currently enrolled in 3rd-8th grades. This league was created to provide a healthy basketball environment with the objective of developing basic basketball skills while providing the opportunity for all players to participate equally in a team atmosphere. This in-house recreational basketball league will consist of park district teams from the following towns: Bloomingdale, Carol Stream, Glendale Heights, Itasca, Medinah, and Wood Dale. It is the goal of the league to promote an atmosphere of fun, teamwork, and good sportsmanship as the players learn basic skills and improve on existing ones. No online registration. Itasca Park District has teamed up with the Itasca Girl Scout Troop 55191 to offer Stay & Play Sport Lockers at Franzen Park (by the Tennis Courts) and at Washington Park (next to the Rec Center). The Sport Lockers contain athletic equipment for all ages and can be used at both parks, and we ask patrons to kindly put the equipment back into the lockers after use.

Backpacks are also available to use for free at the Springbrook Nature Center. We have a bug backpack, a leaf backpack and a bird backpack. These contain items that will help in exploring nature. Families can reserve and check out a backpack by leaving a Photo ID with front desk staff.

How to Register

gister Registration will begin on Monday, August 8.

O Registration will continue until the class is filled or nline ! needs to be cancelled due to insufficient enrollment or individual program deadlines. Mail-in registration for the Fitness Center and Waterpark passes will not be accepted. Itasca Park District Residents will need proof of residency and children in their household to register for the first time.

Waivers In accordance with Recreation Department policy, all program participants must sign a hold-harmless agreement prior to participation in Department sponsored programs.

The waiver must be signed by adults participating in adult programs, and by a parent or legal guardian for children under 18 years of age.

In Case of Oops!

Complete details of program policies, procedures, and guidelines are sometimes omitted from the program brochures because of space limitations. Also, errors in days, times, registration requirements and fees may occur. We apologize for any errors that may appear in the brochure. We thank you for your patience and understanding when these situations arise.

Definition of Residency Anyone living within the geographic boundaries of the Itasca Park District. If there are any questions about your residency, please call the park district office, where a complete list and map is maintained.

Refund Policy A. All requests for refunds must be submitted in person or by phone two business days prior to the first class meeting or practice of program. Trips require reservations weeks ahead of time and therefore do not allow us to refund. Please see staff for individual trip policies.

B. Individuals requesting refunds with two or more business days notice prior to the first class, meeting, or practice will receive a 100% refund, less $10 for administrative costs.

C. No refunds will be issued for any programs within two days of the first meeting of a program, unless a physician’s excuse is presented. Refunds requested for medical reasons will be prorated from the time the request is received.

D. A refund will not be given to programs that cost less than $15. The amount minus the $10 fee will be applied to another class or a voucher given for future use.

E. Junior Kindergarten, Preschool, and Tiny Tikes Classes have a cancellation fee of $75 for withdrawing any time after registering. Enrichment programs have a $25 cancellation fee.

Insurance Policy The Itasca Park District does not provide medical coverage for injuries suffered while participating in park district programs, or while using park facilities. The park district, therefore, cannot assume responsibility for personal injury for persons participating in recreation programs or using facilities. Persons are advised to make provisions for this coverage in their family insurance program.

Fee Information Due to liability concerns, all individuals wishing to participate in any park district program must pay the registration fee listed in the brochure prior to the start of the first class. Any individual who is unable to pay the registration fee must contact the Superintendent of Recreation to set up a payment plan. No phone registration will be accepted. Individuals not paying full program registration fee, or those on payment plans, will be assessed a 10% service charge if any payment is late.

Itasca Recreation Center Rental The Itasca Recreation Center may be reserved for private use during non-program hours.

Groups and individuals should contact the park district at 630-773-2257 or visit itascaparkdistrict.com/rentals for more information. A Security Deposit is required in order to hold a date. If cancellation occurs within 10 days prior to rental, deposit will be retained. See contract for refund policies.

Cooperation The park district wishes to acknowledge the cooperation of the Village of Itasca and the Itasca School District #10 for enabling the park district to provide numerous year-round recreational activities. The park district is permitted to use the school facilities when not used by the schools. For this reason there may be occasional changes in the schedule.

Senior Citizens Senior Citizen rates apply to those 60 years and older.

In the event of any emergency, I authorize District officials to secure from any licensed hospital, physician, and/or medical personnel any treatment deemed necessary for my minor child’s immediate care, and agree that I will be responsible for payment of any and all medical services rendered.
