“I have worked with Italkraft since 2010 and feel extremely comfortable with Alex Xakoustis. When it comes to resourcing, knowledge of materiality, and precision of factory details, he is exact. From the beginning of construction, Alex tirelessly accompanied me in ensuring the “kitchen” was to become a centerpiece of art. Alex understood my vision and brought it to life.” - Felix Cohen

ith his insatiable appetite for design, the sensual dolce of Felix Cohen’s architectural score sweeps through the tropical landscape of 3114 North Bay Road with a panoply of luxuriating home décor, custom-built furniture, and exotic finishes that combine in a colorful arrangement of the curated 11,500 square feet oasis. From the moment one enters the property through a covered gate, the topographical vastness secludes you in and greets you with the warmth of lush greenery and topiary against the backdrop of Brazilian Ipe Wood paneling sweeping you into an airy space among sleek interiors, illumination of natural light, and the use of shadow. Cohen’s composition of balance is the perfect sonata that gesticulates a sensual chord, open to interpretive views that drifts between the indoor and outdoor environs. Designer of Italkraft, Isaac Bulnes individuates, “The interior design of this house achieves a style; rare in that it is at once fabulously opulent, indulgent, yet stoic, sober, and modern. It’s purely sublime and refreshingly new.” One of the most compelling rooms is the library. Richly finished in a shimmering veneer-grey oak with a brushed silvery surface, the cantilever shelving throughout breaks the orthographic profile and elevates the beauty of the meridian line. The ambitious pairing of furniture in robust, steely tones and millwork create an understated elegance. Felix shares, “The kitchen is the centerpiece of art that is the connector to the downstairs living spaces.” The priority of the design was to have it flow into the dining and living room and read as one-mega space, with each room having its own distinctive flair. Proportioned long and lean, the complexion is striking and nouveau in the regard that the millwork resembles furniture stylized pieces in Italkraft’s European aesthetic rather than conventional cabinetry with the flush of Miele and Sub-Zero appliances. Isaac adds, “ Finishes are in a segmented grey oak veneer that gives the surface character, with an elevation that is equally strong and stridently

monochromatic.” The island accommodates seating for six without breaking up the shape. The ensemble of haute style elements and awe-inspiring art marinate in an eccentrically seductive ambiance in the main room of where the dining room and media lounge meet, with direct access to an outdoor resort-inspired experience. Manager of Superhive, Jason Smith reveals, “3114 was purely design driven by the large television in the main room. The idea was to avoid blockage of the exterior view and to keep out the glare from the sunlight. The solution was to consolidate by placing an Intelligent Home Automation System that allows the television to come down from the ceiling. A professional sound system, operational lighting, and shading are on the same switches giving you a true entertainment experience. As we say power up the popcorn.” Outside the main room leads you to a pathway where you actually feel you are walking on water to the private spa and steam room, eloquently finished in Spanish tile. The master bedroom boasts glass walls from floor to ceiling with unobstructed, Southwestern views of the Biscayne Bay. Walk-in closet spaces are wrapped in suede and are repeated as an embellishment to the drawer-fronts and plush handles. The structure of the closet interiors are finished in premium matte-lacquer, rarely seen in the closet business and even more rarely produced with this level of quality and softness to the touch that you can expect from Italkraft’s precision. Internationally-acclaimed luxury furniture brands were hand selected by Felix Cohen to include: Hermes; Baccarat, Christofle, Henge, and Bvlgari to name a few. Other amenities include an upstairs living room with Roches Bobois furniture, Rose Gold shower fixtures in every bathroom, wine cellar, a 2,500 square-foot roof garden with a scenic backdrop of the Downtown Miami Skyline on the third floor. For the yacht connoisseur, there’s a boat slip that is easily accessible through a palm-flanked private beach path. Feel sunshine sparkle over crystalline blue waters, hear the music of 3114 North Bay Road.

“I want to give special consideration to our client Felix Cohen. Felix set the overall vision of this project, and gave me the creative latitude to dream big. I’ve become a better designer working with him.” - Designer of Italkraft, Isaac Bulness

JULIAN COHEN places emphasis on why technology is relevant to our everyday living and discusses the buyer of tomorrow. ELEVATE: Who is the Julian Cohen Team client? JULIAN COHEN: My client is someone that strives for the superlative real estate experience. Professionalism and honesty go hand-in-hand with being well-versed in on and off-market properties, while having an instinct about the ideal home to fit the essence and lifestyle of each of your client's needs. As a Miami native, I have a vast cognition of the luxury marketplace and the dynamic of its bountiful neighborhoods and communities that surround the Miami locale. Attending Leysin American School in Switzerland has given me the tools to develop a strong International and referral based clientele. Word-of-mouth is the most instrumental public relations you can give to a sales agent/broker in a competitive and long term industry. ELEVATE: What differentiates the Julian Cohen Team from others in the luxury residential marketplace both with new developments and investments? (Miami, Los Angeles, NYC, & Internationally) JULIAN COHEN: My father, Felix Cohen has introduced me to the world of architecture and design in which has installed an inherent knowledge of what particular client desires are and what's acquired to fulfill their needs. He has the most impeccable taste of anyone I've ever met. Being bred into a family-oriented luxury home development business of over thirty years, I've been fortunate enough to consult with my father on many properties and been exposed to different materials, styles and textures that not only enhance the intimate connection for the right buyer, but sell at the highest price for the client; to include major record breakers such as 3 Indian Creek Island which closed at $47 million in 08/2012, and still holds the highest price single family home sale in Miami-Dade County history. These tools have become priceless for me in my own practice in understanding a product to consulting on architecture, custom finishes, and floor plans to land acquisitions. ELEVATE: Please express in your own terms why technology has an impact in real estate today and why you feel Compass as a brokerage firm has monopolized the market in terms of technological advancements of listing prowess? JULIAN COHEN: It is our job to stay in the know-Technology has become prevalent in the way we move with the times and gives us a larger scope of our clientele base. Compass has clearly been a pioneer in developing

in-house tools such as market analysis and client to realtor interactivity, in which has not only made it convenient and at the disposal of its agents, but revolutionized the industry as the top leading brokerage house in terms of marketing. ELEVATE: With art and technology in mind, what are the technological advancements that make people feel at home? (Prospective buyers' must see list? (Lighting elements, bathroom spaces, kitchens, etc.) JULIAN COHEN: Seamless and simplify are the words that come to mind. Autonomous luxury is what every client wants on their bucket list. From cabinetry to refrigeration, home theatres to security; the most successful companies are the ones that are making your home a freeing life experience so you can spend more time indulging and less time worrying. ELEVATE: Art is subjective to every avid collector. Do you find that the more renowned artists attract your discerning clientele rather than the emerging artists or do you work from a more conceptual aspect to the overall design of each property? JULIAN COHEN: Art is extremely subjective; hence, in the Cohen developments', art is usually an eclectic mix of renowned and emerging local artists. I tend to notice more often than not, that prospective buyers inquire about the less recognized artists. Art is all about how it makes you feel in the space you stand in. ELEVATE: Can you share any other developments that the Cohen family is collaborating on together? JULIAN COHEN: We are constantly working on the next development. We are working on acquiring a spectacular piece of land to build the next era of 3 Indian Creek with unprecedented design. There is an insurmountable amount of wealth coming into Florida from overseas, New York and California and the primary focus has been on $15 to 30M dollar properties, instead of the $50 to 100M dollar properties. What is unique to Miami is the waterfront living that has originated as a boaters paradise. It's only a matter of time until this thought process transgresses to the Miami market. We need more developments to cater to the roughly 1800 billionaires and that is where our vision is focused. Why not build a $100M dollar home on Miami Beach? Where do we hit our ceiling? I certainly don't think we are even close yet. If we build, the buyers will come. ELEVATE FALL 2017 | ELEVATEIK.COM 29

Jason Haun, Senior Development Manager of Zom USA shares, “A scent can change the mood of the space and one can associate a creation in the perception of a place through smell.” Doctor Aromas is the only aromatherapy delivery system throughout the world that works through your central air conditioning to evenly distribute scents to your entire home and property by using natural and essential oils extracted from flowers and plants. A unique scent can trigger emotions that create everlasting memories. Marcelo Zelicovich, Founder and technical director of Doctor Aromas ventilates, “Scenting has a huge impact on the personal connection one feels to a space, conveying feelings of joy and harmonizing the energy around you. It can identify to what home feels like mind, body, and soul. Our fragrances are created with the intent to induce a sense of tranquility and wellbeing. The result of having a smell that you can identify to is priceless, creating an ambiance that elevates the compass of design. Plus, it makes your clothes smell fantastic.”

CUSTOM CLOSETS WARDROBE OF PERSONALIZATION What was once considered an indulgence in home décor, is now a standard feature in most luxury environments – the fully built-out custom closet. It’s no longer a question of “if” your home or project will include a closet but what type, style, material and how the design will support your individual lifestyle. Italkraft has curated its many years in the the custom design field, to offer a variety of collections to span from the utilitarian to the truly transformative. By its strategic acquisition of various skilled manufacturers, both local and European, Italkraft can provide closets to suit most price ranges, project scopes, delivery times and tastes. With an extensive amount of materials to choose from including: technical veneers, wood veneers, matte and reflective lacquers, and details like leather pulls and glass drawers; customers can truly design a particular place to plan the wardrobe that will tell the world who they are today. For the Developer or Project Manager, offering a finished closet communicates a standard of luxury for the project and creates a competitive advantage in a challenging market.

With palettes of color- mixing into abstract patterns that embed in sacred geometry configurations of an infinite variety, stone is the creation of the divine. Between the verbal and visual, the continuous imitation of each individual slab’s beauty remains the geological rhythm of origin in the listener’s ears.

“The true work of art is but a shadow of the divine perfection.” - Michelangelo

levate experiences the art of stone with Aria Stone Gallery. The constant pursuit of the perfect slab is what defines Aria Stone Gallery as a unique and leading stone boutique throughout the world. Galvanized by an installation called Slow Art that was exhibited at the National Museum in Stockholm; in which applies the theory that Slow Art refers to the history, pedigree and the conscious use of the materials in art work, the creator of Aria was eager to apply these concepts to the stone industry and design world. In Aria’s case, it’s about a piece of art that nature has created over centuries to mature. Another branch of this phenomenon is Slow Travel, which encourages the seeker to soak into an environment and immerse them into the experience. Prioritizing the display of their preferential collective, the climate of gallery is set up to fully engage in the depth of each stone’s allure. Vice President of Aria, April Graves shares, “ I believe a successful business is one that is creative in establishing semiotic brand associations through sensory engagements and creates business that disrupts traditional marketplaces. We wanted to create a museum-like atmosphere that would force people to concentrate on a single piece rather than zoom by, fighting the desire to graze and instead diving deep, discovering the intricacies of a particular slab and hopefully resulting in an emotional connection to one of our stones. “ Vinny Tavares, Owner and Founder tunes in, “At Aria, we pride ourselves on quality. Our hand-selected, curated collection is truly one of a kind, showcasing the rarest stone from the most exclusive quarries in the world. Unlike stone suppliers that carry a pre-determined stock list, regardless of the slab’s quality, we only carry what the industry considers to be the highest quality slabs. This industry coined “first quality slabs” ensure the structure, size, color richness, and vein composition is second to none. As one of the strictest importers in the United States, we only source materials that are considered a 9 or 10 on the quality scale. Stone of this caliber makes up a very small percentage of all natural stone quarried in the world. From the quarry to your door, giving you the very best in what Mother Nature has to offer.” Much like buying a diamond, stone is evaluated for its color, content, clarity, and consistency with consideration of how the vein structures lend to book match veining. Quarries go through bad phases (yielding undesirable blocks) and they often face regulatory issues, all of which restricts the fine buying or what Tavares calls the “pursuit of the perfect stone. The good thing about natural stone, though, is that new quarries are always being discovered, new blocks are constantly being processed, and you never know when the most dramatic

slab is about to be cut. Traveling to the most sought out quarries in the world from remote places in Brazil, Africa, and the Middle East to acquire the rarest of pieces, Aria’s brand values are Worldly, Transparent, Luxurious, and Educational, striving to be an informative resource in the industry while providing a transparent business model. With today’s increased use of natural stone in applications, such as granite countertops, stone has become commoditized. Builders throughout the country advertise granite as a standard feature in entry-level homes and as a result, a wide swath of America has been able to enjoy something that, until recently, has been associated with luxury and exclusivity. April declares, “ Aria Stone Gallery was born with the intent to revert this trend of under appreciating stone and help its customers discover the uniqueness and beauty of this natural wonder, from incorporating book-matched slabs into the overall design of the space, to the use of rare materials, to promoting different stone applications beyond countertops or vanity tops. This is why we are excited to partner with Italkraft. Their European aesthetic coupled with their superior craftsmanship and unique product offerings, create another level of high-end, luxurious designs which blend beautifully with our high-quality, rare materials. Exceeding beyond a client’s expectations, we are in sync with a brand that has a forward thinking approach, making this a perfect fit.” Revolutionizing the industry once again, Aria Stone Gallery launched the most authentic e-commerce platform allowing consumers to purchase straight from the source. “The demand within the industry became apparent when consumers around the country began inquiring about our offerings and materials which gave birth to the idea for the digital storefront. We were the first true gallery format stone showroom that offered transparent pricing and now we are the first to bring that concept online”, remarks Vinny. Each material features professional, color matched photography from the exact bundle of current inventory. Full slab, detail, and book matched views provide a complete overview of materials. A live chat, concierge service feature is also available online. Connect with mother earth and take a once in a lifetime excursion which gives clients, interior designers and developers to experience a behind-the-scenes process of hand-selecting stone with Vinny Tavares. Divulge in the region from which the stone is sourced, and enrich in the history, culture, and cuisine. By bringing to life thought-provoking concepts and experiences, he aims to make people react and debate about our future lifestyles. An ethical design, in which form and function now walk next to meaning and purpose, is the design he is craving for. His award-winning concept designs have been exhibited throughout France, Korea, Spain, and Monaco. Michaël is currently working as a Project Lead and Interaction Designer at IDEO in Chicago. “If design is commonly described as the union of emotional and rational processes by bringing the aesthetic and the functional together, I believe it has evolved into something much deeper today. Now have to be considered new values inside the design process, which are the psychological and the philosophical.”

IRIS VAN HERPEN The latest Haute Couture collection presented in Paris on July 3rd 2017, titled Aeriform, Iris van Herpen examines the nature and anatomy of air and the idea of airborne materiality and lightness, creating negative and positive space with shadow and light. Van Herpen also drew inspiration from the Danish underwater artists Between Music who challenge the relationship between the body and its elemental surround, in a subaquatic environment where air is absent. “Their liquid voices and the subsonic darkness from Between Music overwhelmed me. It motivated me to dive into the contrasts between water and air, between inside and outside, between darkness and lightness.”

PETER R. MAZZEO Mazenti is helmed by Peter Mazzeo who has lead his teams in South Florida and the New York area to effectively deliver client projects on time and on budget. His experience spans multiple relevant facets including construction management, real estate development, and project management, all focused on providing individual and investor clients with their desired results. His success has earned him the commendation of clients and trades alike. “Effortless automated living is not a dream far off in the future; it is available to us now. Unlike artisanal millwork, or the finest masonry, however, technology does not age well. It is quickly outmoded and requires updating. It is always getting better. Technology is, in this respect, a unique component in the home designer’s plan, presenting unique challenges—challenges we encounter frequently at Mazenti. How do we help the client avail themselves of new standards in home technology, without curtailing the home’s longterm elegance? By thinking about technology in the early conversations between the client and the project’s designers and architects, by considering the possible from the ground up, we find that technology can become as much a part of the home’s aesthetic—as much an expression of the client’s taste—as the treatment of the façade or the art chosen for the walls.” MANNY VARAS Varas is a well-known South Florida business leader whose accolades include being named one of the Top 100 Entrepreneurs in the Nation and having run one of the fastest growing Hispanic businesses in the country. David Weiss is President and Founder of Designova Creative + Associates Innovation Consultancy. He is an internationally active and award-winning designer, who was recently named one of the leading “Industry Disruptors” by BOAT International’s first annual “Future Yachts” book. Most of David’s career has been spent designing large custom yachts and superyachts. Our legacy is front line international experience in a very wide array of high level creative endeavors: superyacht design, transportation design and marketing, luxury product and branding creation, software UI/UX development, consumer product development, feature film production, brand identity & creation, and creative team management. David has contributed or led design for more than 30 privately owned vessels either in build or completed engaged by clients in the EU, Russia, Africa, Asia, and Gulf States, as well as a growing clientele in the US. “I was asked several years ago as a designer in an interview whether hand drawings and digital design were mutually exclusive, and I told the interviewer that I feel analogue and digital worlds are overlapping more now than ever before. I responded similarly to the query on harmonizing and integrating technology in galleys on board boats. - I believe that there is actually more overlap between the art of cooking in an analogue sense, and the boost that digital tools and assets give us than ever before. As we start to become more comfortable in ‘smart galleys’, we will see a rise in both the leveraging of tech in that space, as well as a rise of creativity once the responsive cooking environments chefs work in gain momentum and begin building a more natural trend.” NATASHA CASE Natasha Case founded Coolhaus in 2009 with Freya Estreller after she was working in architecture at Walt Disney Imagineering. They launched their architecturally-inspired, unique ice cream sandwich company from their barely driveable postal van at the Coachella Music Festival to an audience of 100,000. They built a loyal following over the festival weekend and returned to LA to an abundance of viral press, a rapidly building social media following, and an eager foodie audience. Named a Forbes 30 under 30 Food & Beverage, and Zagat 30 Under 30, to name a few of her achievements, the company has become one of the leading innovative small dessert businesses growing significantly nationwide. Moreover, consumers can now find Coolhaus’ pre-packaged ice cream sandwiches, hand-dipped bars, and hand-packed pints in 5,000+ gourmet grocery stores nationally, including Whole Foods and Gelson’s, and larger retailers like Meijer and Safeway, and now internationally in Asia and the Middle East. The inspiration for Coolhaus started when co-founder Natasha was exploring the concept of “Farchitecture” – or, Food + Architecture – in her graduate architecture program. The concept originated with the broader notion that design could enhance one’s eating experience, and, by the same token, that food could bring awareness to the design field, especially during the recession. In fact, the name of the company (which is the first project under the Farchitecture umbrella) is a triple entendre: 1. Bauhaus, an influential modernist design movement of the 1920’s and 30’s. 2. Rem Koolhaas, a famous Dutch architect and theorist. 3. “Cool house,” or what you’re eating when you bite into an ice cream sandwich…right? “We are inspired by architecture because architecture is very about telling a story and expressing priorities through design - and that’s exactly how we approach the visuals for our brand. Design is super dependent on the senses - not just visual, but related to sound, texture, temperature, smell... all of it is formed into an individual perception to create our experiences and memories of spaces. And this is where semiotic relationships come into play - together they create not just a building or a space, but an environment... and the associations and visual language at play with these elements make how we interpret architecture really personal and unique.” ELEVATE FALL 2017 | ELEVATEIK.COM 49

I am a firm believer in D.I.Y., (do it yourself) and I believe that anything is possible if you set your mind to it, no matter how extravagant or difficult it may be. I like to incorporate new and advanced technologies to enable my designs since I feel that technology will enlighten the new era of fashion design and the arts and it is important to continuously learn and experiment with different ways of designing. As well as technology, I am also interested in the use of recyclable and non-conventional materials in my designs, as it is always important to use all the resources that are available and incorporate them to my fullest capability.”

or over 30 + years, Glenn Merlin Johnson has been a pioneer of lighting artistry, dimming design and engineering systems for the luxury home market. Glenn’s delicate balance of function and aesthetic is taught and utilized by twenty-five colleges and universities nationwide by way of his publication aptly titled, The Art of Illumination: Residential Lighting Design. Johnson’s expertise is coupled with today’s proven color correct LED lighting products and full home technologies. Glenn’s firm, Adaptive Design Group Inc. is sought out by developers worldwide for his trademarked system of lighting and wired technologies. Johnson expresses, “The design team is fundamental and that his firm along with the Architect and Interior Designer can entirely streamline the design process to ensue all aspects of the modern home are lit with unobtrusive and subtle elements.” ADG plays the role of Lighting and Technical Architects by integrating and combining the overall aesthetic of the design team’s driven concept with comprehensive drawings, specifications, and ownership approval that provide the builder with fully coordinated biddable and buildable plans. There’s no longer a desired need for a subcontractor or vendor driving design and product decisions. As a highly skilled technical practice, ADG is moniker, “Merlin” for perfecting the experience of user driven programming methods that specialize in dimming and the picturesque environs of illumination. Glenn states, “The simplification of complex systems has been our hallmark since the inception of our firm. Our drawings and methodology are an ever-changing and ongoing process to best represent the technologies available in a way our clients can actually decipher.” The balance of these two highly critical aspects work together, to add the Life and Soul to the home; taking both the left brain and right brain to think critically. “It’s through lighting, we define colors, accentuate volume and apply critical applications that allow for shadowing which identifies depth & form”, reveals Glenn. The final piece of the puzzle is the science behind it all; ADG are experts in applying all other Wired Technologies that are integrated “behind the walls” and placing wireless technologies for all phone and tablet communications. Contrary to popular belief, current technology for in-home appliance and electronic integration must be wired in order to ensure privately secure encrypted tunnels with a server on the premises; placing you at the helm of your own safety. Category 5 & 6 copper will always be the most effective future proof system of any built environment. Copper and fiber are the most reliable forms of passing on receiving commands and transmitting massive amounts of twoway data with its lightning fast applications. SIMPLICITY OF DRAMATIC LUMINARY RS3 DESIGNS & LIGHTING LAB’S ARTISTIC PATHWAY TO EFFECTIVE DESIGN. In the living/seating room area, LED strip lighting creates the ambiance against copper beams, allowing the architectural beam to speak as a structural art piece. Between the wall light, concrete LED tile serves as the backdrop that sets the focal point on the art wall. The layering of track lighting is on a magnetic LED strip light that allows the client to position the directional light fixtures to glow a spotlight on the guitars. The track lighting becomes the centerpiece of the room.

“There’s no light without darkness. The role of lighting is to define the drama, to get swept away by emotion and accentuate the colors, textures, and sensibilities of its art. I enjoy working with the Merlin Light brand as a retailer and consumer because they have a sharp eye for precision in comprehending how to control light.” - Luis Blanco, Lighting Lab

The light creates the portrait of the space giving prominence to the art piece. There’s a level of comfort given by the shadows coming to life with sentimental touches of light covering shadows in the chairs of the living room.

Midtown 5

“Magellan Development Group’s first development in Miami’s rental market was Midtown Five, a 24-story 400-unit high-rise located in the emerging Midtown neighborhood. At that time, we recognized a growing demand for a fully amenitized, new construction luxury high-rise geared toward a demographic consisting largely of professional millennial singles and couples. Midtown Five has now been opened for approximately 9 months and its success has exceeded our expectations. As a result, we’re now moving ahead with plans for Midtown 6 which will have 447 units in a 32-story building, located immediately to the south. Similar to Midtown Five, Midtown Six will offer an impressive array of indoor and outdoor amenities. However, the new building will have its own unique personality; a bit more sophisticated and refined, appealing, perhaps, to a slightly older demographic. To help achieve this, the building interior spaces are being designed with rich wood and natural stone finishes accented by black and gold hues. Unit interiors will be similarly designed to appeal to a discerning clientele which will expect a high level of finish and features. That’s why Italkraft was the perfect choice for Midtown Six’s kitchen and bathroom cabinetry. Midtown Six will offer Italkraft’s sleek European design to set the tone for all Midtown Six’s unit finishes. We expect our target residents will embrace the look, feel and functionality of our kitchen and bath design and many will choose to rent from us based largely on our choice of cabinetry and finish.”– Brian Gordon, Executive Vice President of Magellan Development

118 FULTON THE DUTCH | NEW YORK (UPCOMING PROJECT) With rental apartments appearing more like condominiums, the 118 Fulton in New York is sure to stun with the revetment of picturesque views at 49 stories tall and 574 feet above street level. The building will be divided between a 49,941 square foot commercial space and the residential consisting of 483 apartments. Stephen Martinelli. Vice President of Construction at Carmel Partners accredits, “The construction of the site was very compelling. The exterior glass facade is normally not seen in luxury rental units. To create an upscale appeal was very important to us and the upgraded features were worth the expense. Once you get passed the 30th floor, the floor to ceiling views are a guarded mix of design that plays off the financial district and downtown Manhattan, adjacent to One World Financial Center and Freedom Tower. The views are absolutely astonishing.” “Italkraft was brought in during the early process of the design development due to their versatility of products, affordability, and sophisticated design.” “Our goal is to deliver the most outstanding new design for high-rise living in NYC. Working closely with Italkraft we are well on our way.” - Colum McCartan, Founder of McCartan interior and product firm Midtown 5 ELEVATE FALL 2017 | ELEVATEIK.COM 71

Celebrity Artist Eugene Mosley / 2015 Las Vegas Hall of Fame / Walk of Stars Inductee. Frank Sinatra (Chairman of The Board)

THE IMPROVISATIONS OF EUGENE MOSLEY Celebrity and official artist for Altovise Davis and the Sammy Davis Jr. Estate, Frank Sinatra Enterprises and CEO of Legend Cognac makes his Miami debut.

Going to a bar now is not only to sip your favorite cocktail but also a place to experience art such as live music, interior design and individual works of art. You also see the liquor companies contributing to this approach with their elaborate bottle designs ranging in all sizes and shapes from hand-painted to Crystal and limited editions. I am seeing more often in homes the integration of full bars in the living space. Clients feel more comfortable getting creative with this space incorporating cutting edge materials and funky design concepts whereas in the kitchens they may desire a more “timeless” look. - Designer of Italkraft, Candace Matlock

ELEVATE: With the niche of your artistry being Pointillism, a technique of painting in which small distinct dots of color are applied in patterns to form an image, Pointillism is also referred to as a style of 20th-century music composition. There is a relative connection between notes of color and multi-phonic notes of giving the sound a texture in consummate Jazz performances. Is this why you gravitate towards depicting legendary Jazz musicians in your collective? EM: Yes, I do use Jazz as my main focus when I am doing my Pointillism art because both are universal art forms. When doing Pointillism to create my Jazz characters, I listen to Jazz music as I create my masterpieces. For instance, when I created my art piece on Frank Sinatra, I listened to his music. It gave me a personal vibe to create a more realistic portrait of my subject matter. ELEVATE: What is the parallel between the subject matter of your art and creating a cognac brand? Is it a feeling that moves you or do you feel the music carried in the process of palate precision? EM: Just like my art, the cognac brand that I have created is very exquisite and appealing to those who desire the finer things in life. Smooth Jazz music plays an instrumental role in developing a great cognac. This is why my slogan states “Enjoy the smooth taste of Excellence.” ELEVATE: Who are your artistic influences? Are there any artists, both Jazz musicians, and painters that you are inspired by in the Miami marketplace? EM: My mother was a great artist and as a young child, I used to watch her create masterful art pieces. It’s innate for me to express myself creatively as an artist. One of Miami’s own that I enjoy listening to is Gloria Estefan. Her music has different rhythms that create a soulful, sultry sound. A commonality we share is that we were both inducted into the Las Vegas Hall of Fame/Walk of Stars. As far as an artist in the Miami marketplace that inspires me, I can only think of the one and only, R.J. Hohimer. His Jazz paintings not only reflect the music of an era, but his brush strokes show the colors and rhythms of Jazz. I like

the way he adds bright colors to enhance his paintings that radiate a glow into the introspective scenario of each particular canvas. ELEVATE: How did you get your start in the art world? EM: The first piece that gave me world recognition as an artist was my completion of Jazz Legend, Duke Ellington. Thanks to his granddaughter and on behalf of Mrs. Mercedes Ellington, she accepted the painting with gratitude and considers it as one of her greatest possessions. I was one of the first artists to be interviewed on a Jazz Television show called “BET on Jazz.” Other celebratory who have my piece of Duke Ellington include Wynton Marsalis, Steve Harvey, Isaac Hayes, and Tom Joyner to name a few. ELEVATE: At your core, you are a philanthropist and mentor. What drives your desire to give back to chosen causes? EM: I give to several causes because I feel that it is important to help others achieve the greater things in life. One of my main causes that I contribute to is the Make a Wish Foundation because it gives hope to kids and makes dreams come true for those who are battling illnesses. ELEVATE: Who is Eugene Mosley? Entrepreneur or artist? EM: I am both an entrepreneur and artist. I enjoy the challenges that they both create towards making something special and they both can be hard at times, especially when one is a perfectionist. ELEVATE: Both with your liquor and product brands, you call them Legend and Legacy. Is there a deeper meaning behind the name you have chosen, or is it about the Jazz legends who made a footprint in Las Vegas and giving back to the community that you are heavily connected to, as well as leaving a legacy of your own for others to inspire to? EM: It is true that I am inspiring to leave a Legend or Legacy behind for my family and a pattern for others to follow. That is the primary reason behind both of my brand names. Of course, the Jazz Legends who made a footprint in Las Vegas were very inspirational to me because Las Vegas is

my home and will always have a special place in my heart. ELEVATE: As the only artist that was inducted into the Las Vegas Hall of Fame/Walk of Stars and with a Las Vegas Star placed in front of the Paris Hotel, do you feel a sense of acknowledgment? EM: A recollection of one of my fondest memories as a child growing up in Las Vegas was walking down the strip and seeing an artist painting and signing autographs. I knew then that this was something that I wanted to do when I grew up. I have been fortunate enough to have my art sold at the Regis Galerie in the Venetian Casino and made history on December 16, 2015, with my star placed on the Las Vegas Walk of Stars. Another accolade for me is having my star positioned five stars away from one of the most prestigious entertainers, Sammy Davis Jr. ELEVATE: In your own terms, can you express the technique behind creating an influential cognac? EM: The vineyard and aging process is a key component in creating an influential cognac. In the town of Cognac, France there are five different regions in that town that have different climates that produce grapes to make cognac. For a novelist cognac connoisseur, you must know that a cognac is a white wine first and then it distills twice to make a fine cognac. My cognac is aged from the age of 20 to 50. I really don’t get into young aged cognac due to my level of taste and quality. Cognac is considered a sipping spirit; however, it is the perfect cocktail-making drink due to its unique flavor and aromas. ELEVATE: What is your appeal about entering the Miami marketplace? EM: Everyone knows that Miami is the place to be, not only does it have a multi-cultural environment, but it’s an appetizing melting pot for elite products. I don’t want to be just another brand owner in Miami. My main focus is to educate others on the history of art and Jazz by fusing my passion and celebrating both mediums. I want to be a permanent fixture of Miami’s syntactic soul. ELEVATE FALL 2017 | ELEVATEIK.COM 83

ince the backbone of realization, water is considered to be “The Elixir of Life.” What’s most important in our daily lives is the intake and quality of the water we consume. VitaJuwel’s mission is to disseminate the relevance of pure water and the impact it has on our well-being. CEO of VitaJuwel, Jan Eisen bespeaks, “The world’s most precious water in the world comes from a spring that runs over multiple layers of rocks and gets filtered naturally by the earth. We took it a step further by vitalizing water with precious stones and gemstone blends that are treasured for their numerous properties and healing attributes that will contribute to living a healthier and happier life.” Every gem has its own distinct, very subtle vibration. These vibrations have the power to restructure water molecules. “Gemwater” can be comparable to a homeopathic remedy, where the effectiveness of the therapy is derived from the information imparted by the gems into the water that cites a prismatic effect in alkalinity. It’s scientifically proven that water with various gem stones have a higher level of vitality that helps raise your overall vibration, -mind, body, and soul. “VitaJuwel is not only jewelry for your water, but it’s a wonderful tool to prepare for the world’s finest water.” - Jan Eisen Whether you’re entertaining or on the go, VitaJuwel has a number of products and accessories for you to choose from.

“What can be more fitting in promoting the awareness of the world’s finest water in a visually appealing designed kitchen space that is the focal point of the home. I am so proud to have one of our signature gemwater fountains in the Aventura, Italkraft showroom.” - CEO of VitaJuwel, Jan Eisen

What can be more appropriate than naming a yacht after where all of your hopes and dreams begin? The acclaimed Dutch shipyard Heesen has officially launched the World’s first Fast Displacement Hull Form with built in hybrid propulsion. This offers fuel efficiency due to the use of aluminum and to the merit of Heesen’s impeccable craftsmanship, whilst maintaining weight control. Her technicalities evince that she is an ultra-efficient low burning yacht that is the quietist of ships on Ocean’s floor, exhibiting the simplistic opulence of the senses; the option to cruise in silence.

“In a world full of noise, silence is the ultimate luxury” -Heesen Yachts

eesen’s in-house naval architects devised this hybrid propulsion by creating two sources of power: diesel mechanical and diesel electrical. Either or both sources can be used at once to provide less noise and vibration. This allows her captain and crew to start early and leave the port without waking owners and guests. The silent cruising mode can reach up to 9 knots and remain at the same noise level when anchored. To determine how one’s experience on board Home can be enhanced by this silent cruise mode, Heesen collaborated closely with Professor and sensory expert, Barry Smith. The activities guests mainly partake in during an outing at sea is the bespoke service of luxury dining and entertaining. Barry Smith pronounces, “ Our research has shown that the brain’s processing of taste is affected by noise, which reduces the tongue’s ability to detect salt, sweet and sour. The beauty of Home is the ability to run at a sound of around 46 decibels the sound level of softly falling rain - enabling those on board to enjoy food and drink to the full with no diminution of taste.” “Heesen worked mindfully with Omega Architects to design a superyacht with groundbreaking technology, a silent cruising mode. With an open plan landscape by Cristiano Gatto design, living and dining become one optimized space that visages clean lines in a two-tone contemporary palette that results in an interactive and sensory environment for guests. Continually striving to complement technology and design, we’ve created a new breed with 50mHome where overall guests can indulge in the entertaining experience on board and not be impacted by noise, providing the most ultimate luxury - silence.” Launching at the Monaco Boat Show 2017

“At Park Grove, we get to work with some of the most forward-thinking and iconic minds in architecture and design. The level of projects in Miami has increased dramatically over the past decade, but our collaborations with REM Koolhaas and OMA have poised us to set the new standard. Since this project is unprecedented in so many ways, it was important that we have elements like custom Italkraft kitchen cabinetry, marble details and top-of-the-line appliances and fixtures.” -Carlos Rosso, President of Condominium Development of The Related Group

minent developers, The Related Group and Terra come together to co-develop Park Grove, Coconut Grove’s most incomparable and alluring residences that span over a 5.2 - acre property directly across from Biscayne Bay. Residences will range from 2,500 to 3,500 square feet and are geared toward the most discerning year-round residents. A troubadour of d’artistes and design talent contributes to the thread of Park Grove’s creative community. A Jaume Plensa sculpture and artwork by Ruben Toledo and Michele Oka Doner transposes the ethereal vision and sphere of love that Related Founder, Jorge Pérez has with his lifelong interest in art. The interiors boast kitchens and baths by William Sofield, executed in precision with the collective marriage of Italkraft and gesticulation of space by Meyer Davis Studio, Inc. “At Park Grove, luxury will be articulated through a delicate dialogue between elegant minimal design and crafted organic materials.” - William Sofield A restaurant concept from Michael Schwartz, an amenities program curated by Colin Cowie, a two-acre sculpture park by Enea Landscape Architecture, and a smaller building with recreational amenities culminate at 2701 South Bayshore Drive. If the site is the prose of the property, the architecture of the three residential towers led by OMA/Rem Koolhaas is the poetry to the bayfront. “Always a haven for artists, writers, and other creative souls, the Grove retains a character found nowhere else. More relaxed than Brickell, more family-oriented than Miami Beach, the charms of this dynamic community are undergoing a renaissance. Our project will offer a lifestyle that’s perfect for people who appreciate the tropical urban setting,” said Pérez, who has a reputation for enhancing entire neighborhoods with projects that incorporate art and public parks. Miami continues to blossom into one of the greatest global cities of our time,” said David Martin, President, and Co-Founder of Terra. “Our vision for Coconut Grove is to preserve its history and natural landscapes while introducing the caliber of design talent the rest of Miami has been experiencing for years.” Desire for Park Grove is to create an intimate living experience that celebrates the culture of Coconut Grove and makes residents feel at one with its habitat. “Nolita has a style, rhythm and culture all its own, and we’ve created an environment that feels contemporary and refined, but also warm and inviting.” - Lenny Kravitz

ew York City-based Kravitz Design conceived of the interiors as a luxe and layered living space, drawing inspiration from an eccentric downtown vibe while weaving in notes of uptown elegance. “Music and design are very similar,” said Lenny Kravitz of Kravitz Design Inc. “You’re making something out of nothing, building on layers. In the end, you have something that makes you feel differently than before you experienced the space. This should feel natural and comfortable, and be a home that is your refuge, where you build a life and create memories.” Rich materials, including numerous unique natural stones, textured metal, and rich oak are juxtaposed carefully throughout the building, creating spaces that feel contemporary and refined, but also warm and inviting. Kitchens feature custom, mattewhite lacquer cabinetry with integrated Gaggenau appliances. Bathrooms offer a multisensory experience with walls and floors dressed in Titanium Travertine and French Vanilla marble. Powder rooms feature a custom Elm floating vanity and illuminated nickel-framed mirror. Amenities include a 24-hour concierge, automated parking, fully equipped gym, rooftop terrace and private courtyard. 75 Kenmare is the first new construction condominium in New York City to feature full interior design by Kravitz Design, Lenny Kravitz’s namesake firm. The building’s exterior design is by renowned New York architect Andre Kikoski of Andre Kikoski Architect (AKA), winner of the AIA Institute Honor Award for his work for the Guggenheim Museum. DHA Capital, along with partners AMS Acquisitions and First Atlantic Real Estate, first acquired 75 Kenmare in June 2015 and purchased the property with an existing parking garage on the site. Once complete, the building will house a limited collection of 38 one- to four-bedroom homes ranging in price from approximately $1.7 million to over $12 million. Knit into the contextual fabric of NoLita, with its richly textured façade and artful interiors, 75 Kenmare retains the authenticity of downtown life while incorporating a new sense of refined elegance. Kikoski’s exterior is comprised of unique vertical panels of cast concrete and elegantly proportioned windows in chamfered metal frames that introduce a contemporary style to the neighborhood’s architectural landmarks. New York City-based Kravitz Design conceived of the interiors as a luxe and layered living space, drawing inspiration from an eccentric downtown vibe while weaving in notes of uptown elegance. The vision was to create a striking contemporary statement to compliment the other modern architecture being built in the neighborhood and set a standard for design in Nolita. This design took exploration to the next level, making sure everything was considered but nothing taken for granted. The design solutions transform the literal building block of Manhattan exchanging brick for concrete in a new way. Through a richly imagined textured skin, to the well-proportioned oversized windows, to the warm tones and rich patinas of the concrete, the building looks timeless and elegant, yet effortlessly contemporary. “As a team, Kravitz Design lives and breathes the downtown mindset, and is an active part of its cultural history, while each of Kikoski’s signature buildings, art spaces and private residences blurs the boundary between art and architecture.” -Dan Hollander The 75 Kenmare sales gallery is now open at 584 Broadway, Suite 1210, New York, NY 10012. The Eklund Gomes Team of Douglas Elliman is the exclusive sales and marketing agent for the property. Construction began in June 2016 and is expected to be complete in late 2018.
