Sustainability
47 Informazione ad uso interno
Sustainability: our future Design of ‘green’ infrastructures that enhance the territory of reference. In line with the strategies of the FS Group, for a number of years Italferr has been searching for methodologies and protocols to enhance the sustainable decisions that underpin the infrastructure projects it has developed. Our development of methodologies for calculating the climate footprint of projects, assessing the life cycle of infrastructure works (Life Cycle Assessment), and enhancing the stakeholder engagement process, together with our adoption of the Envision Protocol (the first internationally recognised rating system for the design and construction of sustainable infrastructure) mean that today Italferr is able to deploy innovative tools to address the current requirements imposed by ambitious global challenges, in a new perspective that looks for green innovation.

Archaeology Italferr preliminarily verifies the presence of historically ancient structures and identifies the best solutions for solving any interference between the new railway works and archeological assets. Starting at preliminary design level, Italferr develops specialised archeological excavation studies, conducts field surveys and activities and puts in place operations for safeguarding any findings. It works together with the local Councillorships for Archeology in Italy and with the General Archeology Department, and is included in the register of the Italian Ministry for Cultural Assets and Activities and for Tourism that lists the operators authorised to prepare the so-called Documento di Valutazione Archeologica (Archeological Assessment Report).
