Youngest Emirati Entrepreneur and Published Author Visits NIS to Celebrate Literacy We at Nibras International School were happy and honored to welcome the youngest Emirati entrepreneur and publisher, Aldhabi Almheiri.

Our Grades 3 to 5 students had the privilege to meet and ask the Guiness Book World Record holder various questions such as her experience in writing and her favorite book.

Our students were also encouraged to write their own stories, taking inspiration from Aldhabi’s goal of promoting creativity and selfexpression.

This was truly a great learning experience in celebration of International Literacy Day in September. Also as part of the ISP Reading Challenge, 31 classes in ISP schools in Middle East joined this talk virtually.

NIS Celebrates International Dot Day In celebration of International Dot Day, our students came to school wearing clothes with dots on them.

Some even made their shirt designs from scratch using paint, colored pens, glitter, and art papers.

The students in Ms. Heba Hilali’s art class also got creative in their project by mixing different colors and exploring various themes inspired by Peter Reynold’s book “The Dot.” It was nice to see how our students were able to apply their imagination and creative thinking through this project.

Students also came to school wearing clothes with dots on them.

Promoting Student Leadership at NIS At NIS, we value student leadership. We provide our students with various opportunities to develop their leadership and organization skills. We are happy to announce the Student Council Representatives for High School and Middle School this 2023 - 2024 academic year. We will announce the Elementary Student Council representatives soon, so stay tuned.

Grade 5A Class Hosts Assembly on Growth Mindset At Nibras International School, our assemblies are opportunities for students to showcase their communication skills by preparing presentations.

One of the key assemblies we had this month was the assembly hosted by our Grade 5A students. In their assembly, they discussed the importance of having a growth mindset. They did a puppet show and performed a song number to make other students understand that skills and abilities can still be developed. They presented this in front of students from KG up to Grade 4, making it a proud moment for them.

This highlights how we at NIS promote student agency and independent learning.

Subject in Focus: Science Classes in Secondary Our Secondary Students have been busy in their Science classes!

Our Grade 8 students were recently challenged to unlock the understanding behind words like force and motion, as part of their Physics lessons.

To extend their learning, students then gave real-life examples based on the vocabulary assigned to them.

Some of the examples they gave were rubbing hands together, opening and closing doors, and driving. This shows that connecting concepts to real-life situations contributes to student retention and understanding.

Our Grade 7 students, on the other hand, recently worked on a project where they had to create a foldable graphic organizer about States of Matter. The goal was to make notes about the structure, arrangement, and movement of particles, forces of attraction, volume, shape, and examples of Solid, Liquid and Gas.

Spotlight: Music Class in Elementary To continue promoting music, arts, and technology at Nibras International School, we are happy to announce that we now have music classes for Elementary.

In Mr. Kieran Dowling’s music class, students continued to learn about different musical concepts such as pitch, beat, and rhythm through singing a nursery rhyme.

The students truly enjoyed the class as they got to mix play with learning.
