The Hamilton International School

MESSAGE FROM THE SENIOR LEADERSHIP TEAM Dear Parents, It has been another wonderful month, full of individual and team success with ‘amazing learning’ evident across the entire school at Hamilton. Our curriculum continues to offer challenging, personalized learning opportunities for all students; our IEYC and IPC Entry Points and Exit Points in particular showcase this and we are delighted that our parents are now able to be invited to school to see these firsthand. During Ramadan, our community came together to celebrate. Although our school hours altered, students have still participated in a range of exciting and thoughtprovoking lessons in a culturally sensitive manner. Our amazing Parent Council held a wonderful Iftar for our community. It was a superb event and very well attended. It was lovely so see our Hamilton community come together for this. We were also able to share our revised school mission and core values with all those who attended. Our weekly Parent Webinars have taken an emphasis on Specialist subjects this month, with Music, ICT and PE being our focus. We look forward to these returning onsite next academic year and are working on further developing our program to best serve the interests of our Parent Community. It remains an extremely busy and productive time for our school, even though the end of the academic year is in sight. The school is currently planning for our annual Talent Show, school trips and upcoming accreditation visits. Our class-based topics and units are being carefully selected to ensure students are maximizing opportunities to cover year group objectives which will support us with our upcoming end of year assessments, parent conferences and reports. We will have more amazing teachers join our team next year and as always, there will be a a small number that will unfortunately be leaving us. The reputation our school has developed across the community is outstanding, with a common theme from incoming teachers outlining what a ‘student focused’ school we are. As I walk around the school and into classes, it is evident the progress the students have made since the start of the year. You can see how their soft skills such as: collaboration, problem solving, communication, empathy and leadership have been strengthened. It is a shame that these skills are coined ‘soft’; they are anything but. In our school we place a huge emphasis on developing these skills on a daily basis and I hope you join me in agreeing how important these skills are. We hope like us, you have been able to see the progress your child has made since the beginning of the year.

Early Years

Our Pre-KG children have been learning about different sea creatures and how they move. They were able to put their skills and knowledge into action during our dolphin show and shark attack games.

April 2022

Our Pre-KG children also started their new topic "Dinosaur Footprints", and they are learning so much. They explored activities like digging for dinosaur bones, trying to crack frozen dinosaur eggs, measuring the footprints of dinosaurs and even trying to hide in Dino dens. Students had the most incredible time imitating Dinosaurs with Mr. Ian - Head of Primary. Their roars could be heard all around the school.

Our Grade 1 topic "Flowers and Insects" was celebrated with an Ugly Bug Ball. Students dressed up as either insects or flowers, they had the chance to create their own headbands and necklaces. During the topic, students learned the song A-B-U-G and performed it in front of everyone to kick off the Ugly Bug ball. Students have prepared amazing themed refreshments for the day such as ladybugs made from strawberries, gummy worms in Oreo biscuit mud, and a spider made from a croissant and breadsticks. Each of Grade 1 presented an area of learning which was taught during the IPC unit. This, included lots of fantastic art pieces, as well as the science experiments that got our minds thinking. The students had a very enjoyable afternoon and it was a great way to bring this IPC unit to a close.

May 2022

After finishing their "Flowers and Insects" topic, our Grade 1 students started their new IPC unit "From A to B". They completed a range of obstacle courses, from a guided blindfold walk to crossing crocodile-infested waters. All Their activities focused on themes of transport and journeys. ICT

In ICT, our students are learning computer programming through Beebots. Beebots are devices programmed to generate an output and up to 40 instructions can be given to them at one time. Beebots can help to develop many skills in students such as problem-solving, developing a sense of persistence, and working collaboratively in a group task. Our Grade 1 students are learning how to program Beebots by giving simple instructions, whilst our Grade 5 students are learning more complex programming. They are learning how to debug programs and to find the shortest/longest route on the map.
