What's new?

Alice Competition Grade 10 students achieve remarkable success as finalists in prestigious Alice Programming Competition In the recently concluded Alice Programming Competition held by Carnegie Mellon University, our talented students have emerged as finalists out of 110+ teams from different schools in Qatar. They were accompanied by their Computer Science teacher, Mrs. Mohomodhossen.

The road to becoming a finalist in the Alice Programming Competition is not an easy one. It demands relentless dedication, countless hours of practice, and unwavering commitment. These students have shown exceptional determination, going above and beyond expectations to reach this stage.

The outstanding students who made it to the finals were Fahmy and Zahra.

The accomplishments of Fahmy and Zahra not only bring pride to The Hamilton International School but also inspire others to strive for greatness. They have set a remarkable example for their peers.

What's on in Hamilton Grade 2 Exit Point Our Grade 2 students' "How Humans Work" Exit Point event was a morning filled with exploration and learning. The students guided their parents and visitors through a variety of engaging activities, each designed to showcase different aspects of healthy living and how to take care of our bodies. In the Hamilton Meditation Room, the mindfulness instructors led their parents in calming breathing exercises. The Hamilton Medical Clinic buzzed with the sound of future doctors giving their parents check-ups. Hamilton’s healthy eating café was set up, where the children played the role of enthusiastic nutritionists, sharing their knowledge about balanced meals and the importance of making healthy choices. Meanwhile, in Hamilton’s Fitness Center, our personal trainers led their parents through energizing exercises and games, promoting an active lifestyle. The children's hard work was evident, as they demonstrated their knowledge with confidence. A big thank you to all our visitors for attending!

Grade 2 Entry Point Our Grade 2 students had their Entry Point for their IPC unit on Chocolate. They became scientists and took part in five different activities relating to chocolate. They used their five senses to test different questions about chocolate. They held their nose to see if they chocolate tasted the same if they could not smell it. Next, they looked at a piece of chocolate that was blue and decided whether they would eat it as it was a strange colour. The next test was to listen to the sound of chocolate as they ate it and compared it to the sound of a crisp being eaten. For the taste test, they were blindfolded and ate a piece of dark, milk and white chocolate and had to decide which was which. The last test was to compare the touch of frozen and room temperature chocolate. It was a lot of fun!

What's on in Hamilton Grade 2 Visitor As part of the IPC Topic "How Humans Work", our grade 2 students had a visit from the brilliant Mariette from The International Physiotherapy Centre here in Qatar. With a focus on understanding the importance of movement, breathing exercises and stretching, our students took part in a fun and educational journey learning about their minds and bodies and the different strategies we can use to take care of them.

Coffee Morning - The Zones of Regulations The Zones of Regulation Coffee Morning provided parents with an insight on how to help their child understand and manage their emotions and behaviours.

The Zones of Regulation helps to develop awareness of feelings, energy and alertness levels while exploring a variety of tools and strategies for regulation, prosocial skills, self-care, and overall wellness.

The Zones provide an easy way to think and talk about how we feel on the inside and sort these feelings into four colored Zones, all of which are expected in life.

Once we understand our feelings and zones, we can learn to use tools/strategies to manage them.

At the coffee morning, we provided parents with many examples of strategies their child could use and explained to them that this is individual to each child.

The Zones of Regulation is an approach we use in our classrooms everyday and our pupils respond very well to it.

The Little Albert experiment is considered to be among the most unethical psychological experiments of all time. The experiment was conducted in 1920 by John Watson and Rosalie Rayner at Johns Hopkins University. The hypothesis was that through a series of pairings, they could condition a nine-month-old child to develop an irrational fear.

The experiment began by placing a white rat in front of the infant, who initially had no fear of the animal. Watson then produced a loud sound by striking a steel bar with a hammer every time little Albert was presented with the rat. After several pairings (the noise and the presentation of the white rat), the boy began to cry and exhibit signs of fear every time the rat appeared in the room. Watson also created similar conditioned reflexes with other common animals and objects (rabbits, Santa beard, etc.) until Albert feared them all.

This study proved that classical conditioning works on humans. One of the most important implications this finding has is that adult fears are often connected to early childhood experiences. Lost & Found Procedures for Parent The Lost and Found Committee at Hamilton International is made up of parent volunteers that help to sort and organize any items that are left at school by students.

Parents, please label your children’s uniform items, PE kit, lunch boxes, and water bottles. This is the easiest way to ensure that they will be returned to the student. Please include their first and last name written legibly. The Lost and Found is housed under the staircase in Reception. Please feel free to look through the Lost and Found to claim your child’s items. Only take things that belong to you.

Unlabeled and unclaimed items are either sold at our Parent Council Lost and Found Sale, donated, or thrown out if they are in poor condition every Winter, Spring, and Summer Break.

The Parents Council will host a Lost and Found sale at the end of semester 1 and 2. The proceeds will go back to the Parents Council to fund additional events and initiatives.

Parents, please take responsibility for labeling items and/or finding items that have become lost.

This way our collection of lost and found items stays small and easy to manage for our volunteers.

Scholarship We are delighted to announce, for the fourth year, The Hamilton Principal’s Award. The award recognizes a current student (Grade 5 to Grade 10) who has demonstrated outstanding academic achievements and provides them with a scholarship of 50% of their tuition fees.

The successful applicant will: Exhibit exceptional academic progress (getting better) Have positively contributed to the school community.

Provide a personal statement.

Provide evidence of progress from their teacher.

Please note that after August 1st, the Yearbook can be purchased for QR 120 and sold on a firstcome, first-served basis until stocks last.
