Secondary Awards Ceremony In a splendid showcase of scholastic prowess, the Secondary School Awards Ceremony took place on June 14th. The event was a grand celebration of the exceptional achievements and hard work of students throughout the academic year.

Students were commended for their unwavering commitment to excellence across a diverse range of disciplines. Mr. Terry Senior, the principal, took to the stage to express heartfelt admiration and pride in the exceptional talents displayed by Hamilton’s students.

The evening was replete with memorable highlights, including captivating musical performances, poetry recitals, and inspiring student design and technology pieces showcased in a dedicated exhibition. Among many brilliant recipients was Zahra Ayala, who received the prestigious Principal’s Award for her devotion, her outstanding academic achievements, and her acceptance into the Qatar Medical Explorer Program.

The event was a resounding success, with parents, teachers, and students alike reveling in the celebration of hard work, perseverance, and the pursuit of excellence.

What's on in Hamilton Hamilton Talent Show This year’s Talent Show was a great success.

We had 70 entries across our school and the result was an incredible show with 15 finalists, two winners from last year’s talent show and our excellent Teachers: Peter Loughrey and Cathal McKeown.

One of our main objectives as a school is to create an environment that offers students abundant opportunities to showcase their talents and cultivate their passion.

Secondary Spelling Bee Students across middle school competed in this year’s spelling bee and the best two students from each class progressed to the finals. Here, they bravely stood in front of their peers and calmly spelled out words of increasing rarity and difficulty. With an extremely strong showing from all, the winners from each grade were the following.

Grade 6 – Hadi Muhanna. Grade 7 – Rui Moreira and Ismaeel Mohomodhossen.

Grade 8 – Ammar Khadeli. The English Language Department are very proud of them all.

What's on in Hamilton Design Technology Exhibition The Technology Department Exhibition showcased an impressive array of projects from Design and Technology and Computer Science, featuring digital coding projects and physical creations made with materials such as wood and acrylic. The exhibition, spanning across secondary school, included clocks, electronic device holders, desk organisers, scale models of famous chairs and full scale furniture projects. A range of projects focused on coding and networks, providing students with insights into network functionality. Technical graphic projects highlighted the students’ progress in their design thinking and displayed different angles drawn of 3D printed objects.

Grade 5 - Dragon's Den In Grade 5, students explored the IPC unit ‘What Price Progress’. Through a geographical lens, the students evaluated the balance between consumption and production. Their research inspired the grade to design, create and present a prototype for a product to fill a need or with an environmentally sustainable future in mind. To conclude the unit of work, students pitched their idea to the class and voted for two per class to present in front of ‘The Dragons’ in a ‘Dragons’ Den’ themed Exit Point. The groups worked exceptionally well to deliver their pitches and answer the challenging questions set by ‘The Dragons’ (Mr. Senior, Mr. Rinaldi, Mr. Ross and Ms. Wills). Throughout the project, Grade 5 were collaborators, globally minded, demonstrated resilience and looked to always 'get better', truly demonstrating the Hamilton Values.

What's on in Hamilton Grade 2 Exit Point This week, Grade 2 had their Exit Point for their IPC unit on ‘Chocolate’ The children were chocolatiers who had designed and made their own chocolate bars. The children made either a white, dark or milk chocolate bar. They used a range of ingredients and different moulds to make their bars. They all looked and tasted incredible and unique!

The children came up with an interesting name for their bar and they designed and made their own wrapper. Finally, they made an advert to convince people that theirs was the best chocolate.

On the day of the Exit Point, the parents were given three Golden Tickets and had to decide which three chocolates to taste. The children spoke very clearly to the parents to persuade them that their chocolate was worth tasting. If the parents were convinced then they exchanged a Golden Ticket for a chocolate. The parents were amazed at how scrumptious the chocolate bars were that the children had made.

The teachers judged the chocolate bars, wrappers and adverts and the best one from each class received a prize.

Grade 4 Exit Point This semester in Grade 4 IPC, the children have been learning about ‘Space Explorers’.

Throughout this topic, the children have undertaken many tasks and activities which link to space and the solar system.

The children have been focusing on constructing scale models of the solar system, researching famous astronauts, investigating craters on the moon and recreating the different phases of the moon using Oreos.

Lastly, the children completed an investigation on insulation and how it keeps water warm, while creating rockets and singing a song for the IPC Exit Point.

What's on in Hamilton KG2 - Pyjama Day In KG2 the children are learning to write a recount about an experience that they had.

To add value to this we had a pyjama morning, where they all brough in a healthy breakfast and ate it with their teachers and friends.

What's on in Hamilton Swimming Competition The Hamilton International School had the pleasure of hosting its first ever friendly interschool swimming competition on June 12th and 13th. Park House English School and Doha English Speaking School were our esteemed opponents, with over 100 eager swimmers from all schools displaying exemplary sportsmanship across the two-day event. The atmosphere was abuzz with anticipation and camaraderie, both in the pool and among the spectators.

Five thrilling events took center stage: the 50m Backstroke, 50m Breaststroke, 50m Freestyle, 50m Butterfly, and the 4 x 50m Freestyle relay. Each event showcased the determination and talent of our student swimmers.

PAWS PAWS at Hamilton On Sunday, 18th of June, we will welcome PAWS Rescue Qatar to Hamilton International School to speak to our Secondary students about the importance of animal care and welfare.

To make the most out of the visit from PAWS, we will be running a Donation Drive in school where we will collect donations of supplies which PAWS need to run the animal shelter.

PAWS have a Wishlist for these supplies and other information which can be found here: <https://pawsrescueqatar.org/support-paws/donate> If you are able to support our Donation Drive for PAWS, please send in any donations from the link above, with your child no later than 18th June. Students should bring their donated items to the Secondary Resource Room, opposite Mr Perrys office during homeroom time each day.

A little bit about PAWS: PAWS is a non-profit animal shelter dedicated to providing a safe haven for homeless animals until they can be placed in responsible, loving homes. We rely on fundraisers, volunteers, flight angels, foster homes and your donations to provide a safe home for all the animals at our shelter, and all the others soon to come.

We look forward to welcoming PAWS to our school and, of course, to receiving your support in the Donation Drive.

Our Yearbook will be available in hardcopy format only.

To pre-order: please visit our finance office and pay 100 QR or on Qtickets for 110QR You can collect your pre-ordered copy from school from August 1st onwards.

NOTE: If you order the yearbook and your family leaves The Hamilton International School, please arrange for someone to collect your copy and send/deliver it to you.

Scholarship

We are delighted to announce, for the fourth year, The Hamilton Principal’s Award. The award recognizes a current student (Grade 5 to Grade 10) who has demonstrated outstanding academic achievements and provides them with a scholarship of 50% of their tuition fees.

The successful applicant will: Exhibit exceptional academic progress (getting better) Have positively contributed to the school community.

Provide a personal statement.

Provide evidence of progress from their teacher.
