MESSAGE FROM THE SENIOR LEADERSHIP TEAM Dear Parents, Following our break, it has been great to welcome the students back and to see the faces of so many of our younger students as the Ministry has lifted the necessity for all students to wear masks. Before the break our students enjoyed celebrating World Book Day. Our students and staff dressed up as their favourite book characters and a whole range of activities were organized which promoted the value and love of reading. This month, we continued our celebration of reading as Hamilton hosted its first ever Book Fair. It was lovely to see so many parents attending with their children. In our Elementary school we have also held our first face-to-face Parents Consultations since the easing of restrictions. There was a real buzz in school as parents came in and were able to meet with class teachers and specialist teachers, visit their child’s classroom and see the amazing work that has been taking place. Working in partnership with our parent community is so important to us and it was really exciting to have you back in the building – thank you for joining us! Secondary School Parent Consultations will be taking place after the Eid break and more information will be shared with parents shortly. To finish the month we celebrated International Student Day. Our international community came to school dressed in their national dress or colours of their national flag. Students loved learning about countries from all around the world, exploring different traditions, cultures, famous landmarks, food and crafts. Celebrating and learning about our global community is so important and helps our students feel a sense of identity within a truly international setting. As we move into the Holy month of Ramadan, I would like to wish those who celebrate, Ramadan Kareem. Kind regards Beccy Gough Head of Secondary

Early Years
Our Early Years children had the opportunity to meet a real-life marine expert! Khaled Zaki, a PADI Ambassador from Qatar Marine kindly came into school to speak with the children about their ‘Animal’ and ‘Under the Sea’ topics. We decided that Khaled would be a great speaker to introduce to the children as he brought along real-life footage of animals and ‘Ocean Treasures’ for the children to watch. Khaled’s work focuses on local ocean preservation, and we wanted to provide children with context about their local environment in Qatar The children enjoyed watching videos of Khaled diving. They asked him lots of questions about his under the sea adventures. A great deal of Khaled’s work focuses on keeping the seas and oceans clean and reducing the use of plastic. It was fantastic to see the children so engaged and to hear our youngest children speak so passionately about the need to care for the world’s oceans for the sake of marine life. Khaled introduced the children to Project A.W.A.R.E: a campaign which focuses on both both local and global change for the oceans and the communities that depend on them.’ Khaled inspired so many of our students.

We know that children develop new skills and learn about science and nature from growing their own food. Our Pre KG planted their own tomato plant at the beginning of this academic year and they have been diligently taking care of it all of this time. They were finally able to harvest their first fully grown tomatoes. They even got a chance to taste them!

Part of their topic “Ocean Treasures”, KG1 had an amazing splash day at school. They experienced a little bit about life in the sea, while playing with water.

For our KG2 exit point - "Treasure Island", the students danced like pirates, solved puzzles, hunted for treasure and walked the plank. Through this topic our students learned about the history and geography of different counties. They also learned how to differentiate between fantasy and reality. It has been a topic thoroughly enjoyed by our students.

Primary
For the Grade 2 exit point on the topic "How Humans Work", the students took part in several activities that taught them how to care for their bodies. They learned about the different parts of the body and how they work. They also learned about healthy eating, enjoyed meditation and caring for their mind, did some brain teasers to challenge their brain, learned how to get rid of germs, and learned how to stay fit and healthy by staying active.

Did you know that , the bandages of an Ancient Egyptian mummy could stretch for 1.6km? and that Ancient Egyptians invented lots of things we still use today, such as paper, pens, locks and keys and – believe it or not – toothpaste?! Our Grade 2 had their Entry Point for their new IPC unit on "Temples, Tombs and Treasures." They were able to interact with and observe some ancient artefacts, experience artwork and learn many interesting facts about this exciting unit focusing on the Ancient Egyptian Civilisation.

We recently hosted a Dragon's Den event in The Hamilton International School Black Box Theater, for our Grade 5's exit point. Groups of students were given the opportunity to pitch their business and invention ideas to our 4 amazing dragons - Our Principal, Head of Primary, as well as one of our Science Teachers and one of our ICT Teachers. Each group of students worked very hard to convince the Dragons that their idea was the best. Our Dragons had a tough time choosing the winners because all of the ideas were amazing, with students and showcasing really high levels of economics, understanding and creativity. Great Job Grade 5.

Secondary
For World Book Day, the English department in our secondary school arranged several activities throughout the day. Students took part in an Escape room activity where there were six stations with different tasks and puzzles to solve. It was a fun and educational day.

Inclusion
Participating in sports activities helps to improve physical and mental strength, determination, and endurance. Recently, our students from the Hamilton Hub and our Early Intervention program took part in sport activities that had them developing these skills and more. Our PE department organized an amazing sports day event, and along with the physical exercise the students also received many prizes. We were so proud of all the amazing progress seen throughout the day. Well done everyone!

Hot Chocolate Thursday We just love Thursdays. Students wait and and work hard all week long in order to get a chance to be named a Star of the Week. Every week our stars have a cup of hot chocolate with the principal.

Women's Empowerment Event
To mark International Women's Day, The Hamilton International School organized its first panel discussion on "Women's Empowerment". Speakers included: - Abigail Fishbourne, School Improvement Partner, International Schools Partnership - Natasha Hilton, Head of Primary, Park House English School - Abla Sebak, Founder of Women in Qatar and Social Media Influencer, WIQ - Dr. Nawal Al-Alem, Consultant Dermatology, founder of NN-H&B, Medical Director of Tadawi Medical Center, founder of the Health and Beauty Group, Researcher in nutritional needs, winner of distinguished entrepreneur honorary award of the GCC countries in 2009, and author of the bestselling " Al Dana and The Ideal Diet". Parents and secondary students were invited to attend the talk. It was amazing for our students to hear and be inspired by such great female role models in leadership. The discussion is the first under our school's new initiative "Youth of Today, Leader of Tomorrow" - a program that has the Hamilton values at its center.

World's Math Day To celebrate World's Math Day, students across The Hamilton International School had different kinds of Math activities. For Elementary school, they did algebra and geometry activities, art & crafts, and coloring the decimals. Our mathematics secondary team organized a special event for our secondary classes to make the lessons fun and engaging. One of these activity was “Find The Code”, students had to do several math problems to find out 4 digits code and open the box.

We Love To Read At The Hamilton International School
Hamilton Book Fair
“The Hamilton International School Celebrated its love for reading in March by hosting its first Book Fair in the Black Box Theater for four days. Students and parents were encouraged to visit and explore a large collection of genres and book themes for both children and adults. Students got to visit the Book Fair during the day while parents had the opportunity to pass by in the early afternoon. On the third day, Hamilton’s book fair had a surprise guest! Dora the Explorer made a surprise visit which delighted the children.”

ISP Big Read Through the last month our students have been engaged in the ISP Big Read program. The ISP Big Read is a unique and exciting month-long English reading and literacy programme for ISP students aged 5 – 11 years old. ISP students accelerated their reading skills on the award-winning platform Reading Eggs, wrote stories with the inspiration and guided support of the Story Factory, as well as participated in a variety of narrative-based activities in the classroom and beyond, online with other ISP Schools around the globe. The programme promoted the joy of reading and helped develop students’ reading sub-skills whilst also improved their writing abilities over the month-long initiative. ISP Library: Students had access to the Reading Eggs library, where each week there was a different theme with a list of suggested books for different age groups. Books are complemented with activities on the platform to support comprehension. Story Factory: Students were invited to write and publish their own stories. The winning stories complied into the ISP Big Read Anthology! Guest Speaker Sessions: ISP students exclusively joined ‘Meet the Author’ webinars to get an insight¡ into the mind of well-known children’s writers. The programme was hosted on Reading Eggs platform engaging students in reading comprehension and literacy challenges to get the most out of reading and improve their level in a short space of time. At The Hamilton International School students launched the program by changing all the doors in school into book covers. Each week, each grade has been allocated a ''Reading Eggs Day'', where they dedicate their English lesson to exploring Big Read activities e.g. writing stories, reading books from the collection and developing reading skills through designed games. We used this program to inspire a passion for reading and writing in all students and so far they have loved every moment of it. Every week we had a new theme and story, Week 1 - Warm up week - No Theme Week 2 - Story Factory Theme: New Puppy Week 3 - Story Factory Theme: Alien Adventure Week 4 - Story Factory Theme: Theme Beach Students throughout the elementary school accepted the challenge with enthusiasm and passion. Each week, the classrooms were buzzing with discussions around inspirational authors; sharing of fiction and non-fiction texts and many students wrote imaginative stories. To conclude the challenge, students had a storytelling week, where they heard different grade teachers shared their love of reading, design and create storytelling hats and shared their favourite stories.
