What's new? Over the past two weeks students in Grade 8 have been studying Geometry and had the opportunity to research, design and create 3D models that use the shapes we have been learning to calculate with in class. Recently, our students got the chance to host an exhibition of what they have created to the entire year group. To promote student agency, students had the opportunity to use the marking rubrics to peer assess the projects of others. This helped to better understand the design process and evaluate the mathematical calculations carried out in a real world context.

Phonics Workshop Recently, our parents enthusiastically participated in an interactive phonics workshop. At the beginning, we explored the larger process of learning to read and how phonics plays a crucial role in it. At Hamilton International we use the RWI Phonics scheme, which provides a systematic approach to teaching children how to read fluently, improve comprehension, and become confident speakers. The training was tailored to the parents attending, by dividing the Early Years parents and Primary parents into groups. Each group then had the opportunity to explore the resources relevant to their child’s age group. In this practical session, the parents actively engaged in various phonics activities that their children enjoy at school. They honed their pronunciation of sounds, worked collaboratively with partners, and learned effective strategies to support their child’s reading development at home. The feedback we received from the parents was overwhelmingly positive. The workshop provided them with valuable knowledge and practical ideas of how to assist their child on their reading journey. At the end of the session all parents reconvened for a review of the key learning points from the workshop and for final questions. Ms. McCann and Ms. Kerr really enjoyed working with such a dedicated group of parents. They will be re-running the workshop on Wednesday 6th December at 2pm for any parents who were unable to attend Creative Writing Competition Students from Hamilton International School showcased their literary talents by participating in a Creative Writing competition. Their exceptional talents were recognized, earning them and their proud parents invitations to a celebratory event at the esteemed 3-2-1 Museum. This provided an opportunity for Hamilton International School to be represented, highlighting the school’s commitment to nurturing creativity and excellence in literature

Mrs. Rowland and Ms. Kerr (Assistant Heads of Upper Primary and Early Years) led the parent coffee morning on Maths this week. In the workshop, the parents learned about the concrete, pictorial and abstract (CPA) approach, inspired by famous American psychologist Jerome Bruner, which is designed to ‘spiral’ back round to each concept ensuring students build on and deepen their understanding each time. Parents also participated in a short, interactive Maths lesson to experience how the process works from a child’s perspective. Nutrition Day at Hamilton The Hamilton International School was honored to welcome Dr. Lama Ghannam from Westbay Medicare Health Centre. Dr. Lama shared with our students an amazing talk around how Nutrition plays a crucial role in schools impacting the overall health, wellbeing and performance of the students.
