What's New? Anthony Ervin at Hamilton Our students were able to learn from a World Champion, as we welcomed American Olympic swimmer and World Aquatics Championships – Doha 2024 Ambassador Anthony Ervin. The swimmer, who has received multiple medals in the Olympics and Swimming World Championships, engaged in discussions about his remarkable career and even imparted invaluable advice during an interactive workshop focused on refining swimming techniques. Mr. Senior said: “Welcoming Anthony Ervin to The Hamilton International School was a true honor. His extraordinary accomplishments and unwavering commitment to swimming serve as a beacon of inspiration for our students, leaving an indelible mark on their pursuit of excellence." His visit was aimed at inspiring young swimmers and their parents, providing valuable insights into achieving success in the world of competitive swimming. Anthony Ervin shared his excitement on meeting the students: “Today's experience was incredibly rewarding. It was a privilege to inspire these young minds and encourage them to chase their dreams." The timing of Ervin's visit coincided with the Qatar National Sports Day and the ongoing World Aquatics Championships – Doha 2024, further amplifying the excitement surrounding his presence. As part of International Schools Partnership (ISP), we continue to prioritize holistic education and the development of well-rounded individuals equipped for success in an ever-changing world. Through events like Anthony Ervin's visit, we reaffirm our commitment to providing students with opportunities for growth, inspiration, and excellence.

Secondary MAP Testing
Dear Parents and Guardians, Beginning the week of 25th February your child will begin their second session of MAP® Growth™ tests from NWEA® for this academic year. The tests are conducted on computers/tablets over the course of two weeks and will focus on four areas: Mathematics, Science, Language Usage, and Reading. MAP Growth scores help teachers check student performance by measuring achievement and growth. Teachers use results to tailor classroom lessons and set goals for students. MAP Growth tests are unique, and they adapt to your child’s responses to measure your child’s skill level. If your child answers a question correctly, the next question is more challenging. If they answer incorrectly, the next one is easier. These results will provide a more complete picture of what your child knows and is ready to learn—whether it is on, above, or below their grade level. Since MAP Growth tests provide immediate and accurate information about your child’s learning, it’s easy for teachers to identify students with similar scores who are generally ready for instruction in similar skills and topics, and then plan instruction accordingly. MAP Growth reports also provide typical growth data for students who are in the same grade, or subject and have the same starting performance level. Each school year, students will have three testing sessions. The first of these takes place at the beginning of the year, the second in the middle of the year, and the final test will be at the end of the school year. This gives a clear picture of your child’s academic growth over a period of time. We are truly excited to focus on your child’s individual growth and achievement and will share the results of these tests in due course when all assessments have been completed. For more information about MAP Growth, visit NWEA.org/familytoolkit. Kind Regards,
Alan Crean Acting Assistant Head of Secondary acrean@this.qa
