The Data Sciences bachelor’s degree program is offered jointly by the College of Information Sciences and Technology (IST), the College of Engineering, and the Eberly College of Science, with each offering a unique option in the major. Emphasizing teamwork and communication, you’ll take courses based on the technical fundamentals of data sciences to develop the skills needed to manage and analyze big data in a socially responsible way. In the Applied Data Sciences option offered by the College of IST, you’ll study the principles, methods, and tools—like machine learning and artificial intelligence—for using big data to discover strategic insights, predict trends, and make informed decisions. As you master these foundations, you’ll choose or create an application focus area to apply your knowledge to a specific domain that interests you. In your classes, you’ll learn from accomplished faculty with industry experience and graduate with a comprehensive understanding of how to extract actionable knowledge from large data sets and solve problems with modern data sciences tools.
