ISSX President’s Message By John O. Miners, ISSX President I have just returned from the 13th European ISSX Meeting in Glasgow, which was attended by approximately 400 registrants. The organization of high-quality scientific meetings is a core activity of ISSX and I am happy to report that the Glasgow meeting met all expectations. The meeting co-chairs, Ann Daly and Roland Wolf, along with their colleagues on the Meeting Organizing Committee are to be congratulated for delivering an outstanding scientific program. ISSX promotes scientific excellence in the study of xenobiotic disposition and in this regard I also wish to congratulate Professor Brian Houston and Dr. Daniel Antoine, the respective recipients of the European Scientific Achievement Award and the European New Investigator Award (in honor of Professor Karl J. Netter). Brian and Daniel received their awards in Glasgow and delivered lectures during the course of the meeting. We now turn our attention to the 20th North American ISSX Meeting, which will be held in Orlando from October 18–22. Registration is now open and I urge

members to submit an abstract and contribute to the success of the meeting. Visit www.issx.org/20na for more information. The theme of this message is the organizational structure of ISSX— perhaps not exciting, but crucial to the existence of the Society. According to the ISSX bylaws, Council is responsible for facilitating the overall organization, administration, and communication of the Society, and the pursuit of its objectives on a worldwide basis. In fulfilling its remit, Council receives support from the ISSX Office in Washington, DC and from a number of committees. Current ISSX committees include the Awards, Finance, Nomination, Membership Affairs, and Scientific Affairs Committees, and the Committee on Regulatory Affairs. Council recently completed a review of the duties of the ISSX committees and these have been amended to reflect current practice and to facilitate the strategic objectives of ISSX. Committee duties are provided on the ISSX website

(www.issx.org/ committees). If you take the time to view these, you will appreciate the importance of the role that committees play in the running of the Society. The changes made to the committee duties have necessitated an update of the ISSX bylaws. Approval of the updated bylaws requires majority support of the ISSX membership. Members have received a message from the ISSX Office requesting your approval of the changes. Please take the time to respond. As I have indicated in previous messages, ISSX is dependent on the goodwill of its members for its activities, and this includes the functioning of committees. With the exception of the Nomination Committee, whose membership Continued on page 6
