the program

The Northwood School soccer program focuses on the development of the student. From U17 to U19, our coaches focus on the development on and off the field. In the classroom we prepare our students to become lifelong learners. From a traditional 9th and a 10th grade program to flexibility, independence and in-depth college counseling in grades 11 and 12.

ACADEMIC AND SOCCER BALANCE The academic and athletic programs are built to balance each other. Our academic program is portable: when a student misses a day of classes for athletic travel, they have access to their assignments, projects, classmates and teachers. Collaborative classes with options for honors, advanced research and independent initiatives. College counseling that starts before the recruiting calls do. Coaches and teachers work from the same schedule, so nothing gets missed.

ACADEMIC PROGRAM A semester-based, in-person college preparatory curriculum for grades 9 through 12, plus a post-graduate year.

PEAK PATHWAYS A year-long independent study on a topic the student chooses, with a mentor and a portfolio of work. ADVANCED RESEARCH Original research in STEM and the humanities, culminating in an end-of-year all-school symposium where students showcase their work to the school community and visitors from our greater Lake Placid community. L.E.A.P. Learn, Engage, Apply, Perform: hands-on work that takes the classroom into the Adirondacks and the village. ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND FINANCE Applied coursework in business and finance, taught by faculty who have worked in the field.
