R&D+i Team wishes all friends and colleagues a Holly Christmas and a Happy 2017! In the last years, in the Christmas R&D+I Newsletter edition, we share with all of you a typical Portuguese Christmas recipe. This year, we´ve chosen to share with you the "The Greatest Nativity Scene in the World in Motion" recognized by Guinness World Records . In all, 162 mechanized figures alluding to the birth of the baby Jesus were considered, 122 more than the previous record that belonged to a crib of Mexico with 40 registered figures.

News ECHOES Project “Echoes of the Past – Heritage Futures. Vocational Educational (VET) and Training in PostIndustrial Landscapes” (ECHOES), which aims at providing VET methodologies to be used by the professionals of cultural institutions, VET providers, school teachers, trainers and professionals working with people with special needs through the re-use of old industrial sites, is now at a stage of finalization of ECHOES publication, a handbook in which different perspectives on post-industrial heritage are given for reflection. Next steps were agreed on the last partners meeting, occurred last November in Coventry, UK. Next year’s testing period was planned and partners will have the opportunity to transfer some methodologies to national stakeholders and also to get their feedback on that. Interested? Today, product designers and manufacturing engineers are relying on adhesives as one of the most important joining technology. In order to achieve the efficiency and increase of performance required from specialists by the labour market, these professionals need the technical background as well as the ability to adapt to changes like greater design flexibility, better production capacity and product improved performance.

After AdTech project’s state of the art report, it was possible to identify the most critical skills gaps in terms of education and training in the field of adhesive bonding. Now, partners are redesigning the three European Adhesive Qualifications: EAE (Engineer), EAS (Specialist) and EAB (Bonder). News The CERTIC project’s main aim is to support trainers in the non-profit sector in their teaching and to improve their competences and skills through targeted training including ICT, pedagogical and transversal skills. To achieve that, the consortium is working on the development of common training modules (level 5, 6 and/or 7 of the EQF) on how to use ICT to meet pedagogical needs of trainers in the third sector. After this stage, it will be developed a "certification" process for the training in order to facilitate the recognition and a transparent validation of learning outcomes and their transferability between operators. TICS project is based on the idea that professionals working with young people (social workers, experts in orientation/ insertion or trainers) can play a vital role in drop-out prevention, intervention and remediation.

ENTER The aim of our new project ENTER - Through Entrepreneurship Education towards Improving the quality of VET - is to encourage exchange in the field of Entrepreneurship education. This is in line with the Lisbon strategy for growth and employment, according which Europe needs to stimulate entrepreneurial mindsets among young people. The first task for the partnership will be mapping and analyzing the situation regarding entrepreneurship education in the countries involved in the project.

Tourism has one of the highest labour mobility rates across Europe, permitting discussion of the emergence of a truly European economic sector and a labour market with a truly European dimension. Nevertheless, skills shortage in tourism jobs are putting at real risk the employment in the sector (14 million jobs globally, according to the World Travel&Tourism Council). Thus, the identification of skill needs for the sector in Europe has a particular significance. Partners of CULTOUR project have identified that one of the skills gap in tourism sector refers to the growing requirement of intercultural competencies to deal with customers, co-workers and employees. This is transversal to the whole sector and affects a wide range of professional roles: Employees, employers, trainers.

After a year of work, partners from Portugal (ISQ), France (CoopĂŠrative Sud Concept), Spain (INFODEF), Turkey (Gouvernement of Istanbul) and Bulgaria (BFE) met in Bastia, Corsica, for a training week. They had the chance to try some of the tools developed to assist trainers in the implementation of the CULTOUR curriculum, developed according to the ECVET approach.
