ISOLA ROSSA

“ITALY’s BEST KEPT SECRET”
Forty minutes from Rome, just outside the village of Ronciglione, in the midst of a 40 hectare park, sits the Villa Lina Estate consisting of 5 historic residences, a 17th century botanical and symbolic garden, and a 1929 Olympic Swimming Pool with mineral waters.
Villa Lina has hosted countless artists over the generations; from poets D’Annunzio and Trilussa in the 1930s to artists and filmmakers such as Andy Warhol, Jean Michel Basquiat to Julian Schnabel in more recent times.
The garden, with botanical planting from 1790, has many rare trees (33 species): Sequoia sempervirens, Magnolia grandiflora, Cedrus deodaore, Taxus baccata, Ilex aquifolium, Abiespectinata, Thuja gigantea and gigantic specimens of Mediterranean flora, 200-yearold strawberry trees, Roman pines and giant hollyhocks. It is populated in March with violets and daffodils, wild strawberries and orchids in May, and mushrooms in the fall.
The Historical and Symbolic garden was created in the 1920s by Architect De Vico. The layout and design of the garden was a temple to nature and creation - “the masculine and the feminine, the yin and the yang: the receptive and the creative.
The garden as a body: on the right the fountain of waterfalls; the feminine. The water gushing from the cave filling the three shells as Nature ‘s infinite abundance fills our three bodies, physical, mental and spiritual; fertility, birth, DNA.
Further on the masculine: the gushing amphora fountain surrounded by a phallic circle of cypress trees marking key points in the circle of seasons”.
The Villa Lina Estate has two swimming pools - the wonderful 1929 Olympic Pool and, at Torre Del Falco, a pool with a magical location that comes into its own at sunset.
