About Doctoral studies ISM offers two Doctoral programmes: Doctoral Programme in Management is carried out in cooperation with BI Norwegian Business School, Norway, Aarhus University, Denmark, and University of Tartu, Estonia.

Doctoral Programme in Economics, is a joint programme in partnership with four Lithuanian Universities: Vytautas Magnus University, Mykolas Romeris University and Šiauliai University.

Doctoral programmes are designed to develop students’ competencies allowing them to identify relevant business, economic and societal problems, conduct high quality research and publish their results in internationally recognised peer-reviewed scholarly journals.

Doctoral supervision Every doctoral student is appointed a supervisor with expert knowledge in the research area that the doctoral student chooses.

Doctoral Committee The Doctoral Committee is composed of recognised researchers from all partner universities, it co-ordinates and assures the quality of Doctoral studies and research.

Study options: Full-time studies - up to 4 years Part-time studies - up to 6 years Extramural studies – up to 1 year* *Developed for those who have already performed research independently and are ready to submit a dissertation for defence.

Doctoral Programme in Management Doctoral programme in Management is led by ISM in cooperation with BI Norwegian Business School (Norway), Aarhus University (Denmark) and Tartu University (Estonia) and leads to a Doctoral Degree in Management.

Doctoral Programme in Management consists of: Doctoral courses – 30 ECTS credits Compulsory courses: Social Research Development and Methodology – 6 ECTS Philosophy of Science – 6 ECTS Elective courses: Qualitative Research Methods – 6 ECTS Quantitative Research Methods: Multivariate Statistics – 6 ECTS At least one doctoral course (6 ECTS) at a university abroad is compulsory, 2-3 months of internship at a foreign university are highly recommended Academic internship Participation in international conferences, research seminars and other events.

Doctoral dissertation A doctoral dissertation is an independent and original research paper, meeting high academic standards, that contributes to the existing knowledge.

Doctoral dissertation formats A doctoral dissertation Preconditions: research findings have to be published (or accepted for publication) in 2 articles in peer-reviewed international journals A collection of research papers (at least 4) published in internationally recognized, peerreviewed journals with impact factor included in Clarivate Analytics Web of Science (CA WoS) list.

The overview of research (1 author’s quire) and the Summary have to be submitted for defence together with the copies of research papers’.

Defence of a Doctoral dissertation To submit a dissertation for defence, a doctoral student should have: Successfully passed all the exams of the Doctoral programme Presented research findings in at least 2 international events (conferences, seminars) Completed academic internship

International opportunities ISM doctoral students present their research at prestigious international conferences, doctoral schools and research seminars. The majority of doctoral students attend doctoral courses at the partner and other recognised universities abroad.

The Dissertation “The Relationship between Organisational Foresight and Organisational Ambidexterity” was nominated an Innovation Management Dissertation Award 2014 Competition Finalist.

“The key lesson learned during doctoral studies is the ability to manage my motivation and attract resources – professors and mentors. The dissertation topic I chose was new in Lithuania, therefore, I had to get involved in international research networks, to participate in international internships and conferences”.

Admission requirements Admission to doctoral studies is performed on a competitive basis. All applicants are carefully considered for their academic preparation and performance, and their potential to become outstanding researchers.

Applicants holding a Master’s degree or any other equivalent higher education degree are eligible to apply.

Scholarships and Grants State scholarships for full time studies (4 years) The scholarship covers the tuition fee and provides a student grant.

Targeted Research Grants The grant is awarded to a Doctoral student applying to explore a targeted research topic, and covers the tuition fee and provides a student grant.
