CONGRATULATIONS! By Cindy Baron It was an honor and privilege to be able to choose the Del Tura Person and Couple of the Year 2020 as my last official act as Interim President of the HOA. This has been a long-time tradition of the Del Tura HOA President and I was grateful for the opportunity to do my part. There are many deserving people in this community, so my task was not easy. For Person of the Year, I chose Florence “Kay” Nezamis. Kay and her Person of the Year Couple of the Year husband Bill have been Florence “Kay” Nezamis Dave and Nancy Adams married for 47 years. IN THE KNOW By Liz Poniatowski Summer is upon us... and if all goes well once again your guests will be arriving to enjoy your company and the amenities here at Del Tura. This is a reminder for all homeowners and renters that once your guest arrives residents shall be solely responsible for the conduct of their guests and all guests must comply with the Rules and Regulations. It’s time for you to break out your prospectus and review the Rules and Regulations portion. Just a few reminders: Do not park any vehicles on sidewalks, lawns, or vacant lots.
The speed limit is 16 MPH, you must stop at the STOP signs, only licensed drivers may operate a golf cart. Pedestrians have the right-of-way then it goes to bicycles and then to golf carts. And don’t forget at the pools children under 18 years old must be accompanied by a resident and non-toilet-trained children may only use the kiddie pool in the North Pool. Let’s follow the rules to ensure everyone has a safe time while enjoying Paradise! And remember to look for those emails from HTA that keep us updated on openings/ closures/requirements and FOLLOW THE RULES so we may continue to enjoy life here in Paradise.

PRESIDENT’S KORNER By David Klein Note from the President Well it has been another interesting month. The HOA office has re-opened for your use with a limited schedule of 9-Noon on Tuesday mornings only. The hours/days will be adjusted based on conditions and need. The email system is up and running and getting current information and announcements out to our members who are signed up. Once again, if you want to receive news from the HOA via email, send an email granting permission allowing us to send to your
e mail address to dthoacomms@outlook. com. We currently have 260+ recipients. We need a new website that allows for a much better flow of information, some security, easier uploading & more pages. The old one is difficult to work with and has significant deficiencies. We have been studying the TARA Woods website which more than fills our needs and is very functional. Visit the Tara Woods website and compare. You will know in one glance that format is superior. One other thing—the Tower is published 10 times a year. This was decided many years ago due to the lack of news available in the summer. We have
the bulletin board, All Call, and the email system to get out urgent developments. I know some have questioned this and there is your answer. The staff can use a break in the summer and there are not a lot of volunteers to fill in. We have had lots of controversy relative to flag and yard signs in this community. The HOA is NOT responsible for any rules or regulations on these and has no authority on their display. I have queried HTA and Fred Taylor for the rules on the flags and signs and the response from Fred is is included in the Tower. Note the general rule is no political flags are allowed if visible from off the residential property. Recently,
I’ve learned an 18”x24” political sign may be placed on a resident’s property. Recommend you check with the HTA office before placing a sign to avoid any issues. I have just been notified by HTA that they have withdrawn approval for the Viet Wall exhibit in November of 2021 due to the concern about Covid-19. The event has been postponed until there is a better outlook on Covid-19. Sadly, the pandemic is growing worse in our area and we pray that it subsides. Protect yourself, keep an eye out for your neighbors in need, and stay well. We all look forward to getting this behind us!

Recently, there has been some heated controversy in the community regarding political flags. As a result, your HOA Board President reached out to Fred Taylor and asked for the policy regarding political flags being flown on Del Tura residential properties. The following is the direct response from Fred Taylor: Good morning. My comments are as follows; Section 11(G) of the Del Tura rules and regulations state “Any site improvements, other than existing improvements provided by the community owner, shall be at the expense of the resident, as approved in writing by the community owner, prior to commencement.” Therefore, the installation of a flagpole or flag on the home site or home would require managements approval. Since Hometown
America’s policy is not to have any political flags on a home site here at Del Tura, such improvement will not be granted by the Del Tura management office. Please note, this rule applies to political flags inappropriately displayed inside a garage or screened-in room that is visible from outside of the home site. Have a great week! DEL TURA MOTORCYCLE CLUB By Sheila Doublé Motorcycle Facts That Will Blow Your Mind: • In 1887, Yamaha started as a piano manufacturer, but today is a multinational conglomerate that still produces musical instruments. They have added boats, car engines, swimming pools, industrial robots, wheelchairs, RVs, electronics, and golf carts, and motorcycles. • The record for the longest-ever backwards motorcycle ride was set by Dipayan Choudhury in Jabalpur, India on October 7, 2014, lasting 125.52 miles (202 kilometers). • Legend has it that the origin of the term “hog”, when referring to a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, was from the early part of the 1900s Harley’s racing team, the Wrecking Crew. They had a small pig as a mascot and one of the riders would do victory laps with the pig sitting on the bike’s gas tank. In later years, HOG became the official acronym of the Harley Owners Group and is the trading symbol of HarleyDavidson on the New York Stock Exchange. • The world’s longest motorcycle was built in Gujarat, India in 2015 by Bharat Sinh Parmar, sitting at 86 ft 3 in (26.29 m) long. • The Isle of Mann TT (a highspeed motorcycle race) is held on closed public roads and the current lap record is just under 17 minutes with an average speed of 133.9 miles per hour (215 kph). • On the 1970s TV police series, CHiPS, actor Erik Estrada suffered a very serious motorcycle accident while filming an episode. Until he recovered, he literally shot his scenes from his hospital bed. • Did you know that modern sport bike tires don’t contain any natural rubber? The tread of a tire is composed of synthetic rubber, which has been compounded to give a compromise between durability and traction. • Honda began selling pushbikes in 1946 fitted with two-stroke 50cc generator engines originally designed for use with army field telephones. In 1992 (another 46 years later) it launched one of the most complex production motorcycle ever made with the Honda NR750. The NR boasted oval pistons
with two connecting rods and eight valves per cylinder. Initially made as a racing only model, Honda later made 300 road versions of the NR available to the public. • Suzuki originally began making weaving looms for Japan’s silk industry in the early part of the 1900s. Company founder Michio Suzuki wanted to diversify his company and began an engineering firm that started making small cars and engines during the 1930s. The first Suzuki motorcycle appeared in 1952 and was a motorized bicycle called a Power Free. It had a two-stroke 36cc engine that featured a double-sprocket gear system for the rider to either pedal with engine assistance, pedal without the engine, or simply disconnect the pedals and use the engine. Today, along with motorcycles, Suzuki makes cars, marine engines, wheelchairs and is Japan’s second largest manufacturer of small cars and trucks.
• The streamliner motorcycle, the Ack Attack, holds the record for world’s fastest motorcycle. • A man in North Carolina buried his Harley-Davidson on his property and claimed it stolen in 2006. He was paid for the stolen motorcycle and his loan also paid off. The motorcycle was discovered in 2012 by a new owner of the property having some grading done by a contractor. • The longest distance riding a motorcycle in 24 hours is 2023.5 miles (3256.5 kilometers) and was achieved by Matthew McKelvey aka “Bushy” at the Phakisa Freeway in Welkom, South Africa, on 8 October 2014. • Did you know Steve McQueen’s famous 65 foot motorcycle jump in the movie ‘The Great Escape’ was done by stand-in rider Bud Ekins and he did it in just one take? • In the earliest days of Harley-Davidson motorcycles, small advertisements were placed in the Automobile and Cycle Trade Journal offering bare Harley-Davidson engines to the do-it-yourself trade that could assemble their own motorcycle. By
April 1905, complete motorcycles were in production on a very limited basis. That year, the first Harley-Davidson dealer, Carl H. Lang of Chicago, sold three bikes from the five built in the Davidson backyard shed.
• Peter Fonda wore the Captain America jacket and rode his chopper a week around Los Angeles before shooting began on the movie Easy Rider, to give them a broken-in look, and to get used to riding the radically designed bike. The American flag on the back of the jacket, and on the gas tank of the bike, caused him to be pulled over several times by the police. • The highest three months for motorcycle theft are July, August and September while the lowest are February, December, and March. • Dodge built and sold nine motorcycles with a Viper V-10 engine called the Dodge Tomahawk. The motorcycle featured 500 horsepower with dual front and rear 20” wheels and tires. Each sold for between $500k and $700k. • Only about 30% of all stolen motorcycles are recovered, which is half of all automobiles at 60% recovery.
• Actual motorcycle clubs were on the set of the 2003 movie Biker Boyz to aid with tricks, stunts, and racing. They include Valiant Riders, Black Sabbath, G-Zer Tribe, Ruff Ryders, Soul Brothers, Total Package, Chosen Few, Rare Breed, Brothers of the Sun, Sisters
of the Sun, Deuces, and Black Sabbath New Breed. • The Givenchy ‘motorcycle jacket’ was listed in 2016 as the most expensive jacket on the market. At $9,100, the women’s Hooded Biker Jacket is clearly one of those pieces that was designed for the sake of fashion rather than wearing while riding. Most of the jacket is made of lambskin, but pillowy lamb fur lines the collar and inside of the hood. • The longest motorcycle jump on record was set by Robbie Maddison in Melbourne, Australia, jumping 346 feet (107 m) to set the world record. • Doug Domokos was inducted in the American Motorcycle Association (AMA) Hall of Fame in 2002. He was nicknamed “The Wheelie King” and once held the record for the longest wheelie at an amazing 145 miles in length. That record stood for over 8 years. • The sound made by the “motorcycle” that Chris Pine rides to the shuttle departing to Starfleet Academy in the film Star Trek is the same sound used on The Jetsons from 1962 for the “cars” they fly. • In 2016, California reported the highest amount of registered motorcycles in the country (842,106 registered); Delaware had the least amount (28,156). • Emilio Scotto holds the world record of the longest motorcycle ride, spanning. 10 years, 279 countries and a total distance of 457,000 miles • Harley-Davidson is the leading motorcycle manufacturer in the U.S. market, producing $5.6 billion dollars in revenue in 2017. • The first company that advertised a motorcycle’s top speed of over 100mph was Brough Superior. That claim was made for its SS100 in 1924. Considered even today to be innovative and beautifully designed machines, Brough motorcycles were the first to have prop stands, twin headlights, crash bars, interconnected silencers and 1000cc v-twin engines. Every SS100 was road tested on public roads to check that it could reach 100mph. If it didn’t, it was returned to the factory for further work until it could reach that feat. FISH NEWS By Ginny Benjamins Dear FISH Volunteers: Neil Miller, 239-218-9867, has taken over as FISH’s Equipment Manager. Thank you to Jim Hinrichs for all his fast responses to delivering any needed equipment to Del Tura’s residents. Senior Friendship Centers has announced the end of the Lee County RSVP project activities as of May 15, 2020. The only way this affects our Del Tura FISH program is that we will no longer have the umbrella insurance policy over our drivers that we have enjoyed for a very long time. However, when FISH was organized in 1989, it was done to assist our residents and that has not changed. We will continue to do what FISH has always done. In the twenty-five years that we have been a part of RSVP no one in Del Tura has ever had to use the umbrella car insurance. If you feel this would change your status as a driver, we will remove you from our driver’s list, but we are hoping that will not be necessary. Our administrator, Betty Scheetz, wants everyone to know that all personal information you may have given (such as your birth date and driver license number) was shredded immediately.
We also at this time feel we should bring Covid-19 into the conversation. If you feel you do not wish to be too close to anyone we certainly understand. It is always your right as a FISH volunteer driver to refuse any requests to drive. You never need to state an excuse. We will just ask you again at a later date. We will continue to collect the hours you volunteer until the end of 2020, and then we will make a final decision. So please turn in your hours. How Can You Help Lower Your Longevity Risk?
The investment world contains different types of risk. Your stocks or stock-based mutual funds could lose value during periods of market volatility. The price of your bonds or bond funds could also decline, if new bonds are issued at higher interest rates. But have you ever thought about longevity risk? Insurance companies and pension funds view longevity risk as the risk they incur when their assumptions about life expectancies and mortality rates are incorrect, leading to higher payout levels. But for you, as an individual investor, longevity risk is less technical and more emotional: it’s the risk of outliving your money. To assess your own longevity risk, you’ll first want to make an educated guess about your life span, based on your health and family history. Plus, you’ve got some statistics to consider: Women who turned 65 in April of this year can expect to live, on average, until age 86.5; for men, the corresponding figure is 84, according to the Social Security Administration. Once you have a reasonable estimate of the number of years that lie ahead, you’ll want to take steps to reduce your longevity risk. For starters, try to build your financial resources as much as possible, because the greater your level of assets, the lower the risk of outliving them. So, during your working years, keep contributing to your IRA and your 401(k) or similar employer-sponsored retirement plan. Then, as you near retirement, you will need to do some planning. Specifically, you will need to compare your essential living expenses – mortgage/rent, utilities, food, clothing, etc. – with the amount of income you’ll get from guaranteed sources, such as Social Security or pensions. You do have some flexibility with this guaranteed income pool. For example, you can file for Social Security benefits as early as 62, but your monthly checks will then be reduced by about 30 percent from what you’d receive if you waited until your full retirement age, which is likely between 66 and 67. You might also consider other investments that can provide you with a steady income stream. A financial professional can help you choose the income-producing investments that are appropriate for your needs and that fit well with the rest of your portfolio. After you’ve determined that your guaranteed income will be sufficient to meet your essential living expenses, have you eliminated longevity risk? Not necessarily – because “essential” expenses don’t include unexpected costs, of which there may be many, such as costly home maintenance, auto repairs and so on. And during your retirement years, you’ll always need to be aware of health care costs. If you have to dip into your guaranteed income sources to pay for these types of bills, you might increase the risk of outliving your money. To avoid this scenario, you may want to establish a separate fund, possibly containing at least a year’s worth of living expenses, with the money held in cash or cash equivalents. This money won’t grow much, if at all, but it will be there for you when you need it. With careful planning, adequate guaranteed income, a sufficient emergency fund and enough other investments to handle nonessential costs, you’ll be doing what you can to reduce your own longevity risk. And that may lead to a more enjoyable retirement.

One summer, many years ago, I attended a writing seminar that until this day has influenced my life and style of writing. The seminar was filled with educators from across the state. The creativity in our class was amazing! I didn’t realize it then, but that seminar would definitely be an inspiration for many of my “Reflections” articles later in life. I especially remember one particular session that I would like to share with you. Perhaps it might inspire you to do some reflecting of your own. Our assignment was to look back, reflect, and list ten special moments of our early childhood years. You know the ones when you close your eyes and your mind’s eye takes you right to that comfortable, warm place. I remember closing my eyes and focusing back to
those childhood days. In no time I had a list that went beyond what was required. Funny, but for some reason the majority of my most memorable childhood years took place during the ages of 7-10, and included other similarities of heartfelt importance, family, Sunday car trips and Cousins! It has been said that cousins are your very first friends in life. I believe this to be true. My childhood would not have been complete without the company of my cousins. Many of my most precious childhood moments were the times spent with these very special members of our family. Did we ever consider how much our times together would influence our thoughts later on in our lives? Or that we would be counting those precious times as many of our blessings? Those most prominent childhood memories of my cousins and I will always remind me of how we would greet each day wide-eyed with our childhood innocence, ready for our next adventure. It was a time in our
lives when we as children had the freedom to roam and explore. It was a different world then and one that we took for granted – never thinking of the possibility of ever having to be isolated from each other, or our families. We were truly blessed to be children during those times! Our summers were spent at the beach romping and investigating every inch of our surroundings. Swimming, collecting shells, catching shiners, fishing, crabbing, were just a few of the things that kept us busy throughout the day. Every minute of each day was filled with a flurry of activities. We didn’t need to be entertained, our imaginations and our freedom to explore gave us all that we needed. As long as we checked in periodically –we were golden! Sunday outings to the local dairy farm for ice cream with the family were as special as our alone cousin to cousin times. Try to picture this! Mom and Dad would pile all of us into the ’49 Ford: Grandparents, brothers, and cousins
MODEL NATIVE GARDEN By Rosemary Eiden
Now With Knowledge Native Gardening is Easy I didn’t plant enough dill because the other day I counted 15 swallowtail caterpillars on the 2 dill plants that I have. They will have those plants all eaten down before they make their chrysalis. Then two weeks later they will emerge to my joy to see them again as an adult swallowtail butterfly. I just completed my neighbors’ landscape before the rain started. He chose to plant natives too. He gave me his favorite list. From there I drew up a design so we could plot out where the tall, medium, and short plants would go. I also, considered color and texture and how the plants would accent the house color. It is a good idea to start with a plan. Then when the plants mature, they won’t compete with each other or outgrow one another. They will look natural. Like they say in the business, ‘right plant, right place’.
I have been involved with native plants and designing for 20 plus years. You could say it is my passion. Native plant gardens can be arranged pretty much like a traditional landscape. Not only do they bring beauty into your life but they are also valuable food and nectar plants for wildlife (namely our birds, butterflies, and bees). These plants have been chosen by them over exotic plants. This time during COVID is a good time to plan out a native garden or an addition to an existing garden. Just like my neighbor you could submit your favorite plants to me. I could then draw up a plan for your garden at no cost to you. When fall comes to Del Tura (OctoberNovember) you could install your plants. Much can be done with email and social distancing. If you would like to see an actual native garden, you could stop by on a cool morning and I could walk you through mine. It is a blaze of glory with all this rain!

included. (No seatbelts back then). It was like that clown car where you see an endless amount of clowns exiting that very small car. People actually stopped and counted….honestly! Family…always an adventure! I am so thankful for my cousins, my first friends, and the loving memories of our precious childhood. Many times as I lay awake in the middle of the night, I often think about those times and reflect on those pleasant memories rather than counting sheep. Amazingly, within a short amount of time I find myself relaxed and ready to sleep. Perhaps you will find some time to reflect on this part of your life and find those pleasant memories that will bring a smile to your lips, allow yourself to relax, and bring you to that warm, comfortable place. So as Bing once sang, “when I’m worried and I can’t sleep I count my blessings instead of sheep, and I fall asleep counting my blessings!” Pleasant Dreams, my friends! Stay safe!
CREATIVE WRITERS WORKSHOP By Nancy Davy At this writing, all events within the public rooms are still suspended. I would like to make everyone aware that I intend to kick off our Creative Writers Workshop again in October if I have enough people who would like to participate. Where we will meet, at this point, is still up in the air – it may be at an outdoor location where we can safely gather at a safe distance to share our love of writing. DEL TURA HONORS VETERANS WITH VIRTUAL MEMORIAL DAY REMEMBRANCE By David Adams Due to the caution encouraged and practiced in Del Tura as a result of COVID-19, several of our residents found a way this year to remember our fallen heroes on Memorial Day. Under the leadership of Chairman and retired Navy Veteran Woody Cook, a “virtual” Memorial Day ceremony was held with the assistance of several resident volunteers.
The entire ceremony was recorded on video in advance of Memorial Day and then made available via YouTube. According to Woody, “The committee wanted to make sure the entire program took place just as it had in the past. By putting it on YouTube, we didn’t have to worry about a large crowd gathering.” He continued, “The entire ceremony was recorded prior to the 25th, so there was no live program or health risk on the actual day. Folks
could safely sit at home and watch on their own personal viewing devices.” Assisting Woody with the narration and technical aspects of the recorded program were Bart De Graaf, Al Wells, Jim Stenzel, Dave and Nancy Adams, Tom Hoffay, Bishop Stan Lazarczyk, Randy Finnerin, Rod Monroy, Ruth Anten, and the Del Tura Choralaires. Additionally, in keeping with tradition, poppies were placed in a basket and
available to residents at the memorial site courtesy of Rob Monroy. “I’m grateful to all the members of my committee”, said Woody. “Despite this challenging time, I hope we were able to provide a meaningful program to our friends and family here in Del Tura. We salute all our veterans and those who are currently serving. But most importantly, on this special day, we remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country.”
CHORALAIRES HOLIDAY CONCERT CANCELLED By Dave Adams Amid the continuing concerns related to the COVID 19 pandemic, this year’s Choralaires Holiday Concert originally scheduled for December 4th has been cancelled. The decision was made reluctantly according to Director Dave Adams. “I understand how popular the concert
is”, he stated, “and we love to perform. But the health of our members and community was the ultimate deciding factor. And with the situation the way it is here in Florida, and the uncertainty surrounding our ballroom, there was simply too much to overlook. After discussing the issue with Assistant Director Larry Walimire, we felt putting 60-65 people shoulder to shoulder to
sing was simply not advisable for the foreseeable future. And wearing masks was definitely not an option.” Please note, the Spring Concert plans are still on the books. “As long as safety is assured, rehearsal plans will proceed. We’ll have more information on that later in the season”, said Dave. Dave and Larry are disappointed but want to assure the community that
should the situation change later this year, the possibility still exists for a shortened holiday program or perhaps caroling throughout the community. The Choralaires want to thank everyone for their continuing support and understanding during this trying time. Please stay safe.

JULY 4TH PARADE SUCCESS! By Linda Storma What a great Parade! There were 67 vehicles all together. Carts, cars, trucks, fire equipment, bikes, a motorcycle, a tin-lizzie Shriners car and even a motorized chair. So many great decorations and lots of salutes to veterans, all the branches of the service, 1st responders, front line health care workers, of course our great country and more. Then Dusty Laurie who is always around when fun is involved…but she is there for the work too. Always enthusiastic with lots of great ideas and so contagious she gets people involved and is part of why this was so successful as well.

Beth Wilkerson got involved right away with ideas we implemented, and she had input and help from some other residents who worked behind the scenes to get people excited. And Ken Bracher helped during the parade again, as usual. And Colton James… What a treat! That was so much fun wasn’t it?

Now for the THANK YOU’S: A parade this great is only accomplished with a wonderful team. Sheila Double and Dorathy Biddinger were my Marketing managers. Did you see the incredible number of flags, decorations and banners? Well those were because of those 2 ladies. And I might add… funded with their own money and contributions from a handful of others in the community. Sheila also posted countless times on Facebook to promote the parade and encourage participation. And Dorothy was a phone call away with help or a BJ’s card to help me shop. Without them the parade would not have been the same!
And of course, to the partners (especially mine). Erv you are such a big help especially on the day of the parade. You are the calm in the storm (me). But as my phone dings with notes of thanks, you can see that I had little to do with this success. This TEAM was great. Thanks to everyone who worked so hard, thanks to everyone who decorated their vehicles, thanks to everyone who came out to cheer us on. In these tough times there was a very bright light. • We stood so close together and had never heard the phrase “social distancing?”
Well, those days are over! With the heat index at 100 or more on several days, we no longer need layers or long sleeves. Fans, wet towels, lots of ice and hydrating fluids are now the order of the day. And we may now have to use a wide-angle lens to get a group picture taken! But seriously, it is great to be back on the golf course with this fantastic group of ladies. Although we have not been able to meet as a whole group before and after league play, the game of golf is still a real mental boost and physical challenge for us all. And we need that and the company of our friends after being cooped up for so long.
New Members Two new members have joined our group - Karen Brown and Tracy Messina. Welcome to both of you! In case you haven’t had the opportunity to play with either of these ladies yet, I will tell you that they both have great attitudes and it is a pleasure to play a round with them. Memorial Benches Update Many Del Tura residents have been busy working on improvements to the memorial bench area and it is now (almost) maintenance free. There are currently three benches, along with beautiful paving stones and new rock surrounding the area. This was all completed under the supervision of Bertie Dugo and she asked that we give a big thanks to the following: • Victor Calel Lawn & Landscape Service who provided free of charge many hours of labor installing the paving stones and rock border. • Jim Vassallo, Dick Rose, Wayne Volz and Woody Cook for their hard work; and • An anonymous donor who contributed a very generous cash donation. 9-HOLE WOMAN’S GOLF ASSOC. (DTNHWGA) By Sandy Gove We sincerely hope all our year-round members and those away have enjoyed good health, and that each of you will have great summer memories of celebrations, visits with friends and family, and perhaps travel to new places to share. At this writing there are now standard flags on the greens placed permanently in a regulationsize hole that is two-thirds padded with a circle of a ‘swim noodle’ making the ball easy to retrieve–--when it eventually makes it into the
hole! Many actually like this arrangement, as there is no question of whether the flag should be in or out, and of course no hands need to touch the flagpole. Beginning in June, nine-hole members got together with the 18-holers to golf on the third Thursday each month: this will continue into September, providing a bit of variety. Planning of events for the coming year is underway, and it is hoped the months ahead will be filled with golf fun and activities to share. Till then, safe travels and stay well.

Calling all athletes! The 2021 Softball season is rapidly approaching. Okay, maybe not RAPIDLY but it is approaching, and assuming the powers that be allow it, we will be playing again in January 2021. This year as we did last year, Del Tura will be fielding two teams. Even as you read this there are small groups of players who are working out, throwing, and swinging, and fielding. If you have an interest in playing softball this coming year you will have that chance. With the Amigos and the Diablos
both participating in the Mark and Mary Ford League, we will be looking for 30+ players to fill our rosters. If you have any interest in playing, please reach out to me or Jim Hamilton. That means you veteran softballers too. We would like to be able to gauge the interest there is in the community now. I can assure you that your health and safety will be of primary concern. GOOD TIMERS’ By Liz Poniatowski Persons thankful for the little things are certain to be the ones with much to be thankful for! It is with a heavy heart that I have to announce the passing of our only Gentleman member of the Good Timers, Mr. Stewart Carter. Stewart passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by family on Tuesday, 30 June. He will be missed not only by the Good Timers’ but by so many of the Del Tura residents he called family. I believe everyone can relate to the saying above. It really is the little things in life that are getting us through this pandemic. It’s the wave and a “good morning” from your neighbors as they pass by on their morning walk, bike ride or their evening golf cart ride. It’s gathering 6ft apart and talking about what’s going on in your life right now. It’s grabbing a book from our “lending library” started by our Good Timer Jane Sheaffer but being restocked all the time by all the readers here in Del Tura. It’s having a neighbor, or a friend check up on you to see
if you’re ok and ask if you need anything. It’s planning for the future when we can all gather again at Tuesday morning coffee, see a show that our Entertainment Committee is working on, when you can get back to your daily card games, yoga, tennis, going the pool, yes...going and getting golden bronze again. It’s looking forward to our next haircut, mani-pedi’s and going out the stores to just browse but come home with a bag or two filled with stuff we don’t need but we were able to do it. It’s looking forward to having our next Good Timers’ meeting so we can plan our next event so we can once again go out to lunch and celebrate not only birthday’s that have passed but to celebrate our freedoms again. Once all restrictions are lifted, we will gather again and plan our future adventures. Hang in there everyone for soon we will get together and continue on with our lives here in Paradise! After many weeks of thought, I have sadly decided that I will not be presenting a play next year. I am so very sorry to disappoint all our very loyal audiences. As we are really not sure how or when COVID-19 will end, I feel it will be better not to put my cast and crews through many weeks of work with the possibility of cancellation looming over us. We all welcome him back to playing at the Pub and thank him for all that he gives back and does for the community.
Hi Humans, Hope you are all staying safe. My name is Bubba, and as you can see I’m wearing my mask to stay safe from the other doggo’s. Thanks to Lenell Weiler for making it and all the others that she made and then donated the money to a charity. My mom and dad (Jim and Sandy) have been home with me a lot lately and I’m loving it. I went from two or three golf cart rides a day, to like seven or eight. I think I’m a celebrity, people wave and yell my name when we drive by. Most of the time I don’t think they have any idea who the human is in the cart with me. But lately, they have been going out again, I think I heard them saying
something about golfing. What the fluff, why can’t I go too. I’m a big boy, but I love people. Now little dogs are not my favorite, they always bark at me. I just give them the tail and keep on going. My god-parents live in DelTura. Danny and Julia give me lots of snacks and play games with me. When my mom and dad go away they take care of me and sometimes, they just come and get me for a play date. They love me so much. What happens at their house, stays at their house. And then there is my Auntie Carolyn and Uncle Don. She always has cheese for me. Everyone stay safe and if you see me around I love pats on my head and belly rubs. See you Monday! NATIONAL FLAMINGO DAY CELEBRATING NATIONAL FLAMINGO DAY WITH A FLAMINGO PARADE On June 23rd, a group of gals (many part of the 9-holers golf league) had a golf cart parade celebrating flamingos. Pictures are attached. Please note this group raises money each year through their flocking events (a fun activity where flamingos show up in your yard, and to get rid of them, you pay a small fine which is then donated to the charity). This is a fun loving group, as you can see by their decorated carts!
