COVID-19 – The CORONAVIRUS – Update as of 3/16/20 At the writing of this article, both the State of Florida and Lee County have declared states of emergency regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. Recommendations to shelter in place for the next 15 – 30 days are being strongly suggested, as is the direction to keep a six-foot distance between you and everyone else. There are numerous travel restrictions, and these also seem to be growing as the pandemic spreads throughout the United States. Most activities in Del Tura have closed until further notice, in order to protect the health and wellbeing of our residents. All common areas, as well as buildings, pools, courts and courses are closed “indefinitely” at Del Tura. On the flip side, many of our beaches remain open and are filled with Spring Breakers. Sadly, this may increase the number of people impacted by COVID-19. If you have visitors, please know current reports are that this virus can pass to any
of us from others, even if no symptoms are present. Maintain the six-foot distance, if possible! Information has not been consistent across sources, and changes to guidelines seemingly are occurring daily. Washing our hands and staying at least six feet away from anyone is the consistent information cited to stay clear of the virus. The following website tracks the latest information on COVID-19, and is maintained by the State of Florida, Department of Health. I found this website to be comprehensive in information and you may want to check it out.

The CDC (Center for Disease Control), as well as Lee County, and the federal government all have website information on COVID-19 too. On these websites, you will find tips on how to protect yourself from the virus, who is at highest risk and statistics by location of reported cases, hospitalizations and deaths from COVID-19. Arming ourselves with good information is key to staying healthy.

President’s Korner… By David Klein Since this is my first article, I will give you a little background on myself. My wife, Kathy and I reside at 829 Via Del Sol. We come from Green Bay Wisconsin, and yes, we are Cheeseheads and Wisconsin Badger fans. GO PACK & Go Badgers!! When in Wisconsin, I ran international businesses and was actively involved in the community. (Service Clubs and HOA’s). We have four children and a host of grandkids. I am very privileged to serve as your HOA President and will do my best to represent all our residents including our nonmembers. We will be working on the principles of openness and transparency as well as reviewing many of our operating policies. We as Officers and Board members receive no compensation and need to earn your respect and trust. I look forward to meeting all of you over the course of my term. Please e mail me with your comments and concerns. I will attempt to answer or refer the query to the appropriate committee. Some of my goals is to expand HOA membership
including more member involvement with our committees. We are seeking new volunteers for the HOA committees to join some of our veteran committee members so as to learn the ropes and make the HOA better and more responsive. We want to include a letter to the editor in the paper if the Board agrees. An email system where all news is disseminated to all members and nonmembers will be discussed for implementation and approval by the Board. I think that more communication channels that deliver our HOA news and meeting minutes as well as social events will help promote participation in our HOA. Participation in the email system will be voluntary. The current methods of communication will also be maintained. For those of you who may not know, the Board and myself have regular meetings with Fred Taylor of HTA to discuss issues in the Del Tura property. We want to continue all of the good things that the HOA does and improve the representation you should receive with our landlord— Home Town America.

Good Timers’ Singles Club News By Liz Poniatowski A Friend is someone who reaches for your hand and touches your heart... It is with heavy hearts that we had to say our final Good Bye’s to three of our Friends last month. First Dolores “Dee” Nelson passed away on Saturday, 15 February then Zella Hoyt passed away on Sunday, 16 February and then Margaret “Peggy” McTernan passed away on Tuesday, 18 February. All of these ladies were long time members of the Good Timers and also belonged to or joined in on the fun of so many
other activities offered here in Del Tura. These women who have touched so many hearts will surely be missed by so many in the Del Tura community. Although our club lost three of our friends we must still carry on and continue enjoying the life we have to live. Last month we went to the Cape Coral Cultural Park Theater to see the comedy “Urinetown” and then a group of us went on an Eastern Caribbean cruise aboard the Holland America Veendam only to come back to the Corona Virus pandemic. The pandemic has made us postpone all upcoming events in the near future.
Once everything settles down the first trip we will be planning is a trip to Der Dutchman in Sarasota for our birthday luncheon. If you’re single and want to get out and enjoy life with other single individuals please join us at our next meeting on 7 April. Monthly meetings are held the first Tuesday of the month in the Poinciana Room. Socializing begins at 4:00 and the meeting starts at 4:30. All single Del Turian’s are encouraged to join us at one of our monthly meetings to see if this is a club that you’d like to be a part of. The closer we get to the end of the roll, the faster it goes…” That reminds me that our entertainment schedule has almost reached its end. We have one show left featuring BC Country Hall of Famer KENNY HESS.
It has been a very successful season because of our dedicated, tireless entertainment committee and the support from all our Delturians. We are extremely excited and proud of next season’s schedule of exciting performers. Although we miss our snowbirds, the show must go on. We will have two summer
dances, June 20th and August 15TH, and the rest of the 202021 SHOW schedule will be nothing short of COLOSSAL! One Tank Trips By Bette Ewing Cheney This month we are going to Sanibel Island to visit two impressive sites. Many of us have visited this island before, however, we discovered a jewel that we had not explored. It is a historical village that is a living history museum about pioneer life with several restored buildings from a schoolhouse to the original island post office, which is an impressive building relocated from close to where the mainland/island ferry once ran. Most of the structures date from the late 1800’s to early 1900’s. There is a short video to watch before the tour begins. People can tour the village on their own or enjoy the guided
tour by one of the locals who bring everything to life with information and stories. There is no extra charge for the guided tour, which is included in the admission price. There too, is a wonderful collection of historical artifacts. While we’re on the island, let’s visit the Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum. It is the only museum that is devoted entirely to rare and exotic shells and mollusks and is one of the best things to do on Sanibel Island. You’ll also learn to identify local shells that you can find on the Sanibel and Captiva Island beaches. They have a gift shop where you can purchase your favorite shells, souvenirs and gift items.

EMERSON AND OTTO We are Emerson and Otto Lussi, residents of Del-Tura. We live on Via Del Sol, our parents are Bob and Jane Lussi. We visited the Nursing Home when we were 8 weeks old to see patients where our mother worked as a Nursing Supervisor. Two gentlemen patients really enjoyed our company, so our parents decided to name us after Emerson Ramage and Otto Zang. They were thrilled and Emerson said we would be Honored. A few years later the residents passed away. Emerson Ramage was a long time friend of our family and when he passed away his daughter said in his Eulogy, my father was so happy to have the Funeral Directors Dog named in his honor. They have always brought joy to so many people even when they strut around in Del-Tura.

Support for Community is a Top Priority In today’s challenging times, Edward Jones financial advisors are thinking about the health of their clients, their families and their colleagues, what’s happening in their communities and the effect of Covid-19 on the markets. “Most importantly, we want everyone to know we’re taking steps to protect the health and well-being of our clients, associates, families and communities,” Adam Hromiak says. “We’re right here in the community with you, going through this together as neighbors and friends. And we will get through this together.” To help reduce the impact of the coronavirus, financial advisors are taking several steps, including suspending face-to-face residential visits with clients, holding “virtual” meetings and training sessions and ensuring office spaces are sanitized and disinfected. “Like everyone, we really have to do our part to help mitigate this crisis,” Hromiak says. “But since our entire reason for being in business is to help our clients enjoy more rewarding lives, we feel that our efforts now are just an extension of that.” Of course, people’s financial situations also weigh on their minds. “The current market selloff is certainly concerning, but it seems to be driven more by fear and panic than by economic or financial reality,” Hromiak says. Monetary and fiscal policy are necessary, but at the end of the day, it will be the medical progress that will dictate the timeline for reducing market volatility and the ultimate rebound in stocks. Hromiak said Edward Jones expects daily volatility to persist until new virus cases begin to slow, but added that investors should find optimism in these facts: unemployment is near a 50-year low, with solid wage growth; there’s been an uptick in the housing market, which may accelerate due to declining mortgage rates; and the Federal Reserve has cut short-term interest rates back near 0%. Furthermore, the drop in investment prices may indicate that the financial markets have already “priced in” the likelihood of a short-term recession. “This could mean that we’ve already endured much of the stock market pain, ,” Hromiak says. “And even a short recession is of concern to all of us, since it’s likely to bring a least a temporary disruption to an otherwise strong labor market.” For investors wondering what to do now, Hromiak offers these suggestions: First, remember why you’re investing. “With the market decline, people will be tempted to change their investment strategies,” Hromiak says. “But they need to keep in mind that most of their financial goals, such as a comfortable retirement, are long-term in nature – a lot longer-term than the shelf life of the coronavirus. If investors have established a long-term strategy that’s appropriate for their needs, they should stick with it, no matter what today’s headlines are.” However, Hromiak does suggest that individuals who are particularly concerned over the current results of their investment statements might want to evaluate their risk tolerance. “If you are truly losing sleep over what’s going on in the markets, it’s possible your portfolio is positioned too aggressively for the amount of risk with which you’re comfortable,” Hromiak says. “In that case, you should work with your financial advisor to see if you need to adjust your investment mix to include more fixed-income securities, which can provide some downside protection, but you’ll be making a trade-off, because you’ll also be affecting your longterm growth potential.” Finally, Hromiak says, now might actually be a good time for investors to consider actually adding to their portfolios. “Right now, many stocks are at their best values in more than a decade,” Hromiak says. “If you need to rebalance your portfolio, this could be a time to do so.” Ultimately, Hromiak says, investors need to realize that, while we are in somewhat uncharted times, the temptation to panic should be fought. “All our emotions are running high right now,” Hromiak says. “And while everyone’s top priority should be to protect themselves, their families and their communities, it’s still important not to lose sight of their financial well-being. Reflections… By Dianne J. Roderick “The Springs of Our Live” Another spring is once again upon us. Hard to believe that the first quarter of the year has passed! The days and weeks seem to fly by so swiftly - especially here in Del Tura. Our busy lives keep us on a continuous treadmill, leaving little time to think about the seasons. Let’s get off our treadmills for a short while and think about how the springs here compare to the earlier spring times of our lives. For each season there is a reason to celebrate life and all of its gifts. Spring allows us to pause, reflect, and watch the beauty of nature unfold before our eyes. Like an artist that brings a blank canvas to life, nature blesses us with so many wondrous gifts. With each spring comes a chance to focus on the new life and rebirth of the fauna and flora that surrounds us. How do these miracles compare to our own lives? Like the gentle spring rains that will quench the thirsty grass, spring also gives us a chance to cleanse our hearts and souls, a chance to celebrate the new life surrounding us here in “Paradise.” We can all agree that spring is certainly quite different here than it is
was up north. I can remember getting so excited about the daffodils popping up in April, then a frost would appear, and those beautiful, hopeful spring flowers would disappear. We are so blessed to awaken each day to these continuous miracles of nature. Imagine that we are artists with large, blank canvases in front of us. We are asked to paint a mural that would depict the springs of our lives, past and present. After a brief recollection of our thoughts, we dip into the palette that holds all the special colors of our lives. Our brushes are suddenly filled with elegant greens to create a lush green field. Next our sky is covered with the most beautiful shades of blue. These colors may be the only similarities between you and the other artists. Each mural will tell your story and the shades of each color that you choose will tell a unique story of your life’s journey. In my mind’s eye the earlier springs of my life up north bring me back to those carefree days of my youth. Finally saying farewell to those cold, dark, gray days of winter, and looking forward to the brighter, longer days of the new season. More time to spend outside playing with our friends-flying our kites, playing baseball, or riding our bikes.
Kite flying! That memory would definitely have a special place on my mural. The colors would be bright and depict happiness, and unfortunately some sad, dark colors, too. I remember our Dad patiently showing us how to make our own kites out of newspaper, and old pieces of sticks. Then going to Mom’s old rag bag sack (nothing ever went to waste) to find some material for the tail. We couldn’t wait to get that tail and ball of string attached! We would be so excited-so careful to find the right spot, so very cautious. Then....you guessed it! In no time our beautiful soaring kite was tangled on a tree limb, or telephone wire. Well, we did have fun while it lasted! Of course, it wasn’t all play. Each spring brought changes--and with each season came more responsibilities. Our murals of the past are filled with colors that represent our struggles and accomplishments; they define who we are. The scenery may change along the way for each of us but each new spring gives us an opportunity to renew and reflect on our lives. Like a new blossom, spring gives each of us a chance for new beginnings; perhaps allowing us to fill our next blank canvas with more vibrant colors! Happy Spring!

We have answered eleven challenges and are currently working on our twelfth. Del Tura Motorcycle Club By Sheila Doublé We’d like to say a HUGE “Thank you” to everyone who participated and those who came to check out all the cool rides in our community. We had such a great turn-out and met so many wonderful people and saw some great vehicles that are all with-in the walls of Del Tura, it seriously made my heart full to hear some of the nice words from residents who hadn’t felt like part of the community before; now feel such a great community gathering and made so many friends (and now go to shows together). We’re grateful to be a part of such a wonderful community. We look forward to having another next year! Thank you to Hometown America (Fred) for your help and allowing us to try out our first show. We invite all riders for our Sunday Breakfast rides on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month (weather permitting) meet at 8am at the clubhouse parking lot. We’re working on dates for charity rides and other charity events (all donations going to Del Tura residents in need) and are look forward to making new friends, visiting new places and making wonderful memories.

Harley Fun History: On March 13, 1937, Joe Petrali set a land speed record of 136.183 miles per hour at Daytona. He rode a blue 1936 EL equipped with a 61ci Knucklehead engine specially designed for the attempt. It featured low-slung handlebars; a fairing made from a cut and reshaped gas tank, and a rear tail fin assembly for aerodynamics. SEASON ENDS FOR DEL TURA TRAVELING SHUFFLEBOARD TEAM As I mentioned earlier this was a rebuilding year for Del Tura. With that said, I couldn’t be prouder of this group! They always worked hard to improve their skills. We took fourth place with 141 points behind Lake Arrowhead, Laurel Estates, and Windmill Village.

Writing this on March 9th, our season will be over by the time you are reading this. Writing today, this Friday will be our last week of regular play. Next week will have been our 8-Team tournament & that will have been followed by our 16th Annual Bust-Up party on the 27th. When I write my article for the May Tower I will let you know the final standings as well as the Tournament results & also about the Bust-Up Party. Today I will
tell you the current standings after 16-weeks of playing. In the A-Flight the team of Glenn & Mary kay Tointon are in 1st place at 38/10. They are followed by Dave Lessard and Marlene Eck just 1-game behind at 37/11. In 3rd place Curt King & Marcella Carothers at 35/13. It is still a very tight race and some things could change after this Friday’s last 3-games. In the B-Flight, the leaders are Kathy Boesel and Mary Pimental in 1st place at 25/23. They are followed by Ray David And Cam Smith at 23/25 and in 3rd
place are Ted and Barb Luke at 21/27. Also a close race there in the B-Flight where things could change after this weeks games. So this Friday, March 13th, the trophy winners for the top three teams in both flights will be decided & also the 8-Team Tournament members that will be the top 4 leaders of each flight will also be determined. So, a lot riding on this Friday’s games. All that information will be in my May Tower letter. See you then.

By Pam Price Thank you to all of the Amigo and Diablo fans for supporting us at our fundraiser held on February 29th. We had a great turnout, and truly hope our fans had a great time. Especially fun, was Dick and Denise Rose’s version of Abbot and Costello’s Who’s on First skit. Due to the generosity of our fans, we hope to be able to field two teams again next year, and to improve the uniforms for the Diablos, while maintaining equipment and uniforms for the Amigos! Both the Amigos and Diablos are in the playoff rounds. The Amigos are in the “A” division, and the Diablos are in the “B” division, so it is possible for both to bring trophies back to Del Tura. We will have the results to share in next month’s Tower.

SPORTS & EXERCISE Del Tura Men’s Golf Association (DTMGA) By David Klein Our annual Member/Guest tournament was held on March 6th and 7th with 41 two person teams participating in the event. The two-day event consisted of two flights with a better ball the first day and a total two person count the second day. A ladies scramble was held on Friday the 6th and after that a barbeque was held in the Courtyard. Finally, a dinner and awards banquet was held Saturday evening in the Starlight Ballroom. SPORTS & EXERCISE 9-Hole Women’s Golf Assoc. By Sandy Gove Members playing in the early morning with low 40-degree temps last month learned quickly how to move their golf game along, while wearing heavy jackets and mittens, clutching lap blankets! The Flocking for the Cure had stealth members scurrying after dark, some with flashlights in hand, moving between shrubs, to relocate their flamingos to surprise another member, and the new offer of “insurance” proved very popular. Many of our members will also be participating in Golf for the Cure. All this fun accomplished to raise funds for a great cause. The annual two-day Member-Member tournament held March 11 and 12 saw more than 30 teams participating and many sporting colorful new outfits (another great excuse to go shopping…). April 30th brings our Member-Guest, and plans are well underway for a Hawaiian-themed event promising a fun experience for members and guests, so consider participating and who you’d like to invite. 18 Hole Women’s Golf Association TEE OFF TIME By Margie Blackwell Tournaments: Member-Guest Tournament A huge thank you to the three ladies that planned and organized this year’s MemberGuest Tournament! Mary Ciezadlo, Chris Bunker and Darlene Brinker – the day was Flamazing! Also thanks to all the volunteers – Karen, Carol, Donna, Lori, and Maria who manned the registration table, ticket sales, kitchen organization and anything else that needed to be done. We started the day with a nice breakfast (thanks to those donators) and opened our gift bags to find snacks and a cool golf towel. Ryan was on 1 South throughout the morning to complete drives for those ladies who opted to “buy” his drive. Most of us can honestly say that our second shot from so far down the fairway was a novel experience! Sue Passineau and guest, Jean Davis, took 1st place in the first flight and Julie Kohn and guest, Traci Flynn, won 1st place in the second flight. There were numerous ties in both flights for 2nd, 3rd and 4th place finishes, so congrats to all the winners and everyone who came out and supported our association.
We finished the day with delicious pasta and punch and then made our own ice cream sundaes with all the toppings! Beautiful gift baskets were passed out to those ladies with winning raffle tickets and cash prizes went to the 50/50 winners. Thanks to Sandy Rolando for making the baskets and to all the people who donated gifts! New Member Welcome to Julie Kohn who recently joined our group. If you attended the RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) you heard that for each hour you help our residents in Del Tura you have made $25.43 to be given to our committee organizations and public agencies and proprietary healthcare facilities throughout Lee County. That means you have helped the others with housing, clothes, food and medical help. I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still, I can do something. He shared that he had checked the Tower to see his birthday, which is April 11th, but low and behold, it wasn’t there. Being the quick thinker, he quickly turned to the obituaries, where he was relieved to also not find his name, but thought he just better be sure he was alive! He then gave me a call and shared this info which made my day! I appreciate Fred taking my mistake and turning it into a fun conversation that has made me laugh multiple times as I recall it. Taste of Broadway By Priscilla Petersen Wow, who knew that Del Tura had such talent right here? The February “Taste of Broadway” was the perfect production to display our amazing artists. As always, Jacqueline Keen’s
direction brought out the best in our local talent. I, for one, loved every note that was sung. Christine (Janelle Shallenberger), in “Phantom Of The Opera” was breathtaking and Tevye (Art
Keen), in “Fiddler On The Roof” was outstanding. Every act deserved the standing ovation received. John and I loved every minute of the show. How lucky we are to live here in Del Tura!
