NEW IMAGE CHORUS To paraphrase the words to the last song of the first half of the New Image Chorus Show on Saturday, April 2nd, “Now it’s time to say goodbye to all.” THANK YOU for attending our show; and to our snowbirds in the Chorus and in the audience, we wish you safe travels and look forward to seeing you in the fall.

The members of the Chorus will be resting their lungs over the summer, so they are well rested to start rehearsal in midSeptember. As you can tell from all the smiling faces on stage, we do have fun, but we get the work done. You can say a good time is had by all.

You don’t have to memorize any of the songs, but it is more fun if you try. By the way, there are no tryouts, strikeouts, or

anything in between. Just show up when rehearsals start in September. Check The Columns for local time and station.

In her spare time, Mardette enjoys cards and singing in her church choir. In his spare time, Jim enjoys golfing and touring.

Kate and Charlie Miklovich Kate and Charlie reside on Lot #312, 2821 Cloister Street. They are part-time residents from Maine. They have three children and seven grandchildren. Kate and Charlie are both retired schoolteachers and principals.

In her spare time, Kate enjoys visiting her grandchildren, meeting new people, reading, and walking. Charlie is a self-made sailor who enjoys swimming, walking, and reading.

Mary and Dale Blau Mary and Dale reside on Lot #502, 2841 Tara Lakes Circle. They are full-time residents from New York. They have two children and three grandchildren. Mary is a retired Oneida Native Language Instructor. Dale is retired from Davidson Chevrolet. In her spare time, Mary enjoys going to the beach, sunning, and walking. Dale enjoys cigars and meeting new people.

Suellen and Bruce Critchlow Suellen and Bruce reside on Lot #279, 2836 Steamboat Loop as part-time residents from Pennsylvania. They have two children, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Suellen is a retired nurse. Bruce is a retired supervisor for the Union Railroad. In their spare time, they both enjoy car shows, fishing, and biking.

FROM THE BOARD ROOM by Lou I have recently received several questions about our HOA website. (www. twhoa.net).

Why does the HOA have a website?

One of the goals of the HOA is to provide timely, accurate, and factual information to resident members. We recognize that not every resident can attend the Saturday Morning Coffees which include a short information meeting at 8:45 AM; or the monthly HOA meetings at 7:00 PM, which are on the second Monday of the month during season; or can visit the Clubhouse where all activities are advertised and displayed. So, the website is available 24 hours per day, seven days per week.

How much does the website cost?

The website costs are solely supported by the members’ dues. Obviously the more resident members, the less per each member. The overall cost, $300.00, is extremely reasonable considering all the information that is available. Your HOA investigated numerous vendors before selecting HOA Express.

Can anybody go on the website?

Yes! It is on the World Wide Web. We do receive inquiries and questions from folks throughout the country. HOA members, however, have access to the entire website simply by registering on the site, including Resident Directory, HOA bylaws, Tara Woods Rules and Regulations, HOA financials, classified ads – for sale/wanted, online forms, resident concern forms and much, much more.

Can my club or group have our own page on the website?

Yes, it is available to any club or group, and it is managed by that club or group.

Is Mondays (What’s happening) email part of the website?

It is an offshoot of the HOA website to provide all residents timely, accurate, and factual snapshot information along with classified ads – for sale/wanted section.

Why does the HOA Community manager have a say on the Homeowners website?

Your Tara Woods Homeowners Association reached out and invited manager Angi to participate on the website to share timely and factual information with residents concerning our community. It is another effort to be transparent and provide all community residents the latest information.

What are email blasts?

Email blasts are another part of the TWHOA website and are sent to residents when the information needs to be distributed quickly.

I encourage all Tara Woods residents to register on the TWHOA website. (www.twhoa.net) to stay in the know about our community.

FMO NEWS TARA WOODS HOMEOWNERS ASSOCIATION NEWS I received the following communication from FMO and am passing it along for your assistance.

What is Project Eagle Eye? Project Eagle Eye is an FMO initiative to collect, sort, and categorize data regarding the issues and challenges of living in a Florida land-lease manufactured home community. We intend to raise the awareness of these issues and publicize them to FMO members, the general public, the media, and elected officials at all levels of government.

PROJECT EAGLE EYE NEEDS YOUR HELP!

Internet searches, news articles, emails from FMO members, etc. are giving us a lot of trusted, verifiable sources for our data. However, there is also a lot of data that needs to come from you, our members. As the main researcher for Eagle Eye, I need, and want, to hear from YOU! Here is a breakdown of additional information we are seeking:

Lot Rent Increases. How much are your current and previous base lot rent increases?

Please provide both the dollar amount and the percentage amounts if possible. Also, are there any additional fees you pay in addition to the base lot rent, i.e., cable TV, trash, lawn service, special use fees, etc. Please go as far back in time as possible.

Pass-thru tax. If you pay a “pass-thru tax” assessed by your park owner, please let me know how much it is per month. Go as far back in time as possible.

Complaints against park owner or manager.

I know this is a big issue with people. If there are complaints with your park owner or manager, please provide as much information as possible.

If you want to provide copies of any paperwork,

that would be helpful. I have a template created in Excel which will be used specifically to log these complaints.

Park Sales. Is your park up for sale? Was it sold recently? We want to know that. Parks are being sold for exorbitant amounts, far exceeding the assessed or market value. Please provide as much information as you can. I am looking for the name of the park and the buyer, value of the park, purchase amount, date of sale, and the number of lots in the park. If you do not know some of this information, just let me know which county it is in. I can look up the information in County records.

Park Closures. If you know of any park that has closed, please provide as much information as you can. We are particularly interested in the reason a park was closed.

Lawsuits. We are looking for any lawsuits that have been filed against your park owner or manager. We are also looking for any lawsuits filed against your HOA by your park owner or manager. Please provide the legal name of the parties involved in the lawsuit, the names of any attorney(s) involved, and the Court the lawsuit was filed in. Through my previous work in law enforcement and security, I have access to a program which allows me to look up any lawsuit, regardless of where it was filed.

Thank you for all your help. All data used in this project is printed and filed away in a locked file cabinet. It is also stored electronically either on the website where it was originally located or on my computer which is backed up by a two-terabyte encrypted external drive. All information will be kept private and confidential. YOU ARE DEPUTIZED Your Neighborhood Watch Committee hereby deputizes you to be the community’s eyes and ears.

At the “New Resident Orientation” you were given an orange and black Neighborhood Watch sign and were asked to display the sign in a window that is visible from the street. This sign itself won’t deter crime or any suspicious activity. It is your vigilance that will deter crime.

The Committee asks that you all keep a watchful eye out for anything suspicious or safety related problems and report it to either 911 in the event of suspicious activity or to the Hometown office for anything else. Although we do not have a crime problem in the community now, it is better to be prepared for any event. Safety issues should be reported on the “Resident Concern Form” found on the HOA website and a copy sent both to the Hometown office and to the HOA for follow-up. If you would like a new sign because yours has faded or you can’t locate the one originally given to you, please call Peter Krilivsky at 603-493-8891. If the phone is not answered, please leave your name, address, Lot # and phone number and he will arrange to get

you a sign.

If you are leaving for the summer, please fill out the “Resident Update Form” found at the Office or on the HOA website and return it to the Hometown office. In the event of an emergency at your property, the office will then have your contact information to notify you or a person that you have designated to watch your home.

The committee met with Kim Swanson from the Sherriff’s Department this month to discuss the various prevention programs available to us as a community. Please look for some seminars related to safety, both personal and property, which will be presented to you during the remainder of the year.

DO YOU KNOW WHAT’S HAPPENING WITH TENNIS IN TARA WOODS? CHECK THE TENNIS BULLETIN BOARD ON A REGULAR BASIS FOR UPDATED INFORMATION ON WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH ALL TENNIS ACTIVITIES.

TENNIS ACTIVITY DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS IS NOT AS BUSY NOW, WITH THE MEN’S LEAGUE FINISHED FOR THE SEASON, AND A LOT OF THE TENNIS PLAYERS GOING NORTH, BUT THERE IS STILL PLENTY OF TENNIS BEING PLAYED ON THE COURTS. TENNIS ASSOCIATION I hope all the snowbirds made it home safely and that everyone is having a great summer. This season was a fun-filled one and I am looking forward to next season.

At our final meeting of the season on March 26th, the Tennis Association planned next season’s Round Robins Everyone, stay healthy, and we’ll see everyone next season. ~ Ed Sandre OPEN TENNIS Even during the summer months, the mixed doubles “Open Tennis” is still played every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday from 9:00 – 10:30 AM. All skill levels are welcome to join us on the courts.

There is no need to sign up to play on those “Open Tennis” days – just show up at the tennis courts with a racquet and a desire to have some fun.

As the “tennis season” winds down, there will be less people showing up for “Open Tennis” but it is still available during the summer months.

If you have an interest in playing tennis, stop by the courts and check us out.

TENNIS LEAGUES Men’s League White Team (Stallions) As of this writing, March 27th, our White Team is in first place by 13 games. Since we only have one match (6 games) to play, we will wind up in first place in the league – it has been a great season.

Our last game was Tuesday, March 29th, against Sabal Springs, with the result being 3 wins and 3 losses. I hope you came out to watch us finish the season.

Next season there will be changes in the teams, not only in Tara Woods but in the other communities as well. Next year will be a new story in tennis, so be sure to stay tuned, pick out your chair by the courts, and cheer our teams to victory once again. ~ Fred Puhlfuerst Blue Team (Mustangs) The league season ended on a high note for the Mustangs; we won our last two matches to secure first place with a record of 54 wins and just 6 losses for the year.

This year has been a real success for the team, and the support we received from the tennis community made it so much fun to compete. All the players came together and formed a close relationship that was instrumental in those 54 wins. We were proud to represent the Tara Woods community as a whole, traveling to the other teams’ home courts.

It was a real pleasure to be associated with the men on this team – all true gentlemen and sportsmen in every sense of the word.

We are looking forward to competing again next year. ~ Roger Rafferty Women’s League Even though Tara Woods did not have a women’s team in the SWIFT League this season, there is an effort to put together a women’s team for the 202223 tennis season. There is a sign-up sheet posted on the Tennis Bulletin Board for all women who may be interested in playing on the Tara Woods women’s tennis team next season.

Here is some information from past years that you might find helpful. The league season usually started

on the first Thursday in November. All matches were played on Thursday mornings. Our home matches were played at 10:00 AM. Away match times varied, with start times as early as 9:00 AM and as late as 11:00 AM, depending on the community where we played.

Also, in prior years, our Tara Woods team practiced on Tuesdays at 9:00 AM. If you have any questions, just ask any of the women tennis players who you see out on the courts.

If you have an interest in playing on the women’s team next season, be sure to sign up. ~ Linda Engel ROUND ROBINS Our Round Robin season came to an end on Saturday, March 26th, with a full house (all four courts) and lots of fun and laughs! We followed tennis with a nice lunch on the veranda with food (grilled hamburgers and hot dogs), and drinks, and, more importantly, with great friends!

We want to thank all the people who helped out and to everyone who came out to play social tennis and the Round Robin tournaments! We had a great turnout this year, as we put the COVID year behind us and got back to normal. We’re looking forward to an even bigger season next fall!

We wish all of our Canadian friends and snowbirds safe and healthy travels, and we will see you in the fall! ~ Greg Girard NOTE: The Round Robins scheduled for next season are on the fourth Saturday of the month, starting at 9:00 AM. The dates are: November 26th, 2022. There is no Round Robin scheduled for December. The dates for 2023 are: January 28th, February 25th, and March 25th. ~ Submitted by Linda Engel

CERT Please review your Hurricane Guide in preparation for hurricane season.

Your Tara Woods CERT team remains active during the summer with training opportunities. On Thursday, May 19th, we will attend a Hurricane Prep Presentation by an ABC Meteorologist at Horizon Village. Here in Tara Woods, we had Disaster Prep Training in April. We plan more training in July and September. In April, Barbara Werner-Lubich and Andrea Snyder led Triage Training at Horizon Village.

The next Basic Training class will be held in the fall: Tuesday, November 8th, Thursday, November 10th, Tuesday, November 15th, Thursday, November 17th, and Friday, November 18th, at Herons Glen.

How to be a good money manager in retirement If you reach retirement with a significant amount of assets, you’ve done a great job of saving and investing.

But now comes another challenge – making that money last.

You might think that this task, as important as it is, won’t be as hard as accumulating the money in the first place.

Yet, a sizable number of people have reached a different conclusion. In fact, 36% of retirees say managing money in retirement is more confusing than saving for retirement, and 56% say they wish they had budgeted for more unexpected expenses in retirement, according to the Edward Jones/Age Wave Four Pillars of the New Retirement study.

What steps can you take to help you become an effective money manager during your retirement years? Here are a few to consider: • Set your goals. Your money management needs will certainly depend, to some extent, on what your goals are for the coming years.

Will you travel extensively? Stay close to home and pursue your hobbies? Or maybe even open a small business? Once you identify your vision for retirement, you can estimate how much it will cost, which will then dictate much of your spending and saving needs.

• Stick to a budget. If you’ve followed a budget throughout your working years, there’s no reason to stop now – in fact, budgeting may be even more essential when you retire. Of course, you don’t necessarily want to force yourself to be as frugal as possible – after all, you worked hard, saved and invested so you can enjoy a comfortable retirement lifestyle. Look for reasonable cost-cutting opportunities, such as eating out less often or eliminating streaming services you don’t use.

• Don’t underestimate health care costs. Even when you’re on Medicare and pay for supplemental insurance, health care costs could still be one of your biggest expenses during retirement. Initially, budgeting for $4,500 to $6,500 per person annually may be a good starting point for traditional health care expenses in retirement. However, depending on your health, prescription drug usage and other factors, your costs could be higher or lower. And you may also want to estimate long-term care expenses as part of your plan.

• Look for senior discounts. Once you’re a senior, you may be able to find discounts on a wide range of items and activities, such as movies, transportation, groceries, gym memberships and more. By taking advantage of these discounts, you can save a surprising amount of money and ease pressure on your cash flow.

• Establish a sustainable withdrawal strategy. For decades, you’ve been putting money into your IRA and 401(k). But once you’re retired, you will likely need to start taking withdrawals from these accounts. It’s essential that you don’t withdraw so much early in your retirement that you eventually run the risk of outliving your money. You may want to work with a financial professional, who can analyze your entire situation – assets, expenses, lifestyle, expected longevity, etc. – and recommend a sustainable withdrawal rate. Keep in mind that once you turn 72, you may be required to take out a certain amount each year from your 401(k) and your traditional IRA, so you’ll want to incorporate these withdrawals into your overall income strategy.

Do whatever it takes to become a good money manager during retirement. You’ll find that it’s well worth the effort.

May May is the month when flowers blossom.

On Mother’s Day we write and tell Mom she’s someone special.

On Armed Forces Day and Memorial Day weekends we wear red, white, and blue And we celebrate America by having a BBQ. The weather is getting warmer, the flowers in bloom, the butterflies flutter by and the birds sing a chirping tune.

The sun comes up sooner to brighten our day. It goes to bed much later, so we have more time to walk our four-footed friends, ride our bikes, enjoy nature that surrounds us here in Tara Woods with the rest of the day before evening comes.

Well, my time is up for this month’s May segment of Shiloh Speaks.

God speed for all those embarking on their travels back north, and those who remain here, and I’ll mention the ones up North too.

ENJOY AND LIVE YOUR LIFE TO THE FULLEST. P.S. Don’t forget to pick up after us! It’s your Tara Woods! Keep it clean!

Our March 9th party, Welcome Spring & Sports Night, was a huge success. Although there were way too many Red Sox shirts in attendance for yours truly, it was a fun-filled and very competitive evening. Men versus Women bean bag baseball ended up in a tie, but, technically, the women won since we ended up with a lady on third base!!

Cathie LaSelva was definitely the ladies team MVP with that tying home run! Congratulations to all our individual game winners as well. The golf winners were Diane Nunn and Ron Proulx, for the Football toss it was Lessie Post and Peter Krilivsky, the baseball winners were Val Roderick and Ed Malatesta, and the frisbee winners were Charlene Langtry and Bill Machnicz after a double tiebreaker round.

TAI CHI When are classes? Tai Chi classes are FREE in the Tara Woods Clubhouse.

Classes meet year-round Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:00 AM to 12:00 Noon.

Who is teaching classes? Our instructor is Tony Fettig. Tony has 20 years martial arts experience (Tai Chi is a form of martial art) and ten years’ experience in Tai Chi, five of those years as an instructor. He is a full- time resident at Pine Lakes for the past ten years where he teaches Tai Chi classes twice a week.

Originating in ancient China, Tai Chi is one of the most effective exercises for mind and body health. Tai Chi is a mind and body practice that involves a series of slow, gentle, flowing exercises that combine movement, meditation, and rhythmic breathing.

Who is Tai Chi for? Everyone!! Men and women, any age. Like starting any exercise, it is important to ask your physician any questions you may have about whether Tai Chi is right for you.

What are the health benefits of Tai Chi? Tai Chi has been shown to improve one’s flexibility, coordination, relaxation, balance, stamina, and blood oxygenation.

It has also been shown to help relieve stress, reduce blood pressure and heart rate. All are particularly important as we age. With the mind and body united in movement, seniors find they feel good and can bring this feeling into their everyday lives, making them more resilient physically and emotionally.

What are classes like? Tony teaches the Taoist forms of Master Moy Lin Shin.

First 20 minutes: Foundation exercises, slowly and gently working all muscle groups and joints with an emphasis on deep breathing and relaxation.

Second 20 minutes: From the beginning, step by step learning the forms of Master Moy Lin Shin. Demonstrating and practicing each movement in order, emphasizing stance, direction, hand and foot position, all in order to achieve the most physical benefit.

Last 20 minutes: Connecting the learned movements into the relaxed, continuous, flowing form of Tai Chi.

What should I bring to class? Tony recommends comfortable clothes and flat shoes that allow the foot to glide and pivot. One of the best shoes for Tai Chi is FitKicks available on Amazon for $20-$23. Ballet style slippers like those sold by Isotoner (any brand will do) are also acceptable.

Just want to try Tai Chi out before buying shoes? You can wear socks for the short term. Not allowed: bare feet or sneakers. Not sure if shoes you already have are acceptable? Bring them to class to show Tony along with socks just in case.

Bring a water bottle. It’s important to stay well hydrated and we will take a brief water break part way through class.

Now is the time to get up and get going again.

This is a total body workout that can be done standing or sitting down. It includes stretching, balance, cardio and light weights. Give it a try - nothing to lose and may even gain some muscle.

ENTERTAINING NEWS So, Ladies and Gentlemen...going into summer is a lovely time of year. The continual bloom of flowers and seeing the baby Sandhill Cranes, hopefully growing, makes us all feel a time of renewal. We have said goodbye to our “snowbird” friends, looking forward to fun times in the warmer season of the year.

While the Entertainers are on hiatus, we have selected the play for next year and handed out the books for the cast to study over the summer months. I have begun the work on what the set will look like. During the year there are really only about two months when the business of Entertainment is not going on in some way or another. And yes, it is work, but our lives did not stop at retirement. Those who are busy have just reinvented ourselves and found more fun work to do while in our retirement years. Why not?

Remember – If you don’t use it, you lose it.

If anyone is interested in finding out about the volunteering that is needed to produce a play, let Janet Daly (our Director) or myself know. There is always a place for a willing heart. As the line at the end of my article says, “…. we make a life by what we give.”

So, have you been giving to your community… if so, you most likely have a great life; no time to just moan and groan because you are just too busy?

TARA WOODS COMPUTER CLUB The Tara Woods Computer Club has resumed free computer classes for the owners, renters, and guests of Tara Woods. These are held at 10:30 AM every Thursday in the Card Room at the Clubhouse. They are open to everyone, and there is no membership fee.

All of our members this season have been beginners, so we have been studying Computer Basics. This is a complete course on how to use your computer. We spend as much time as we need to on each topic, and the next topic to be covered is always posted on the bulletin board in the Clubhouse. These classes will continue at least until the end of May, when they will be moved to my home. Attend only those classes that appeal to you. Bring something to take notes with, and your laptop computer if you want to follow along on it.

CRIBBAGE

There’s a “new” game at Tara Woods. If you hear someone say, “fifteen two fifteen four” and you don’t think they’ve lost a screw or two, come and join us in the Card Room every Wednesday at 2:00 PM for a few games of Cribbage. The arrangement is fairly flexible since Cribbage can be played by 2 or 3 or 4 players. Just be there by 2 PM. Cards, cribbage boards and fun will be provided.

POKER, ANYONE? LADIES! DO YOU PLAY POKER? How long has it been since you’ve played with friends? Did you know there’s a game every Monday night at the Clubhouse just for the ladies? Well, we really don’t have a “No Boys Allowed!!!” Rule, but men usually don’t like to play with wild cards and we do. But they’re welcome to play as long as they are willing to “play like girls”. It is most likely the least stressful and least expensive poker you can play around here! It’s a good night to socialize with the ladies and make new friends with the girls who like to play poker. The stakes are very low.
