Grimm of Galveston Hot Sauce & Spice Co. is the fiery creation of Melynda and Antonio, a dynamic duo blending passion, flavor, and island pride. Inspired by Antonio’s childhood memories of helping his great-grandmother prepare for her catering business, the couple has turned that legacy into a line of bold, handcrafted sauces and spices. Their unique flavors are often dreamed up on road trips and brought to life using locally sourced ingredients, Every bottle captures their love for heat, creativity, and community.
Q. What inspired you to start creating your own hot sauces and how did you develop your signature flavors?
A. The inspiration goes back to Antonio’s childhood, helping his great grandmother, Mama A, with her catering business, especially preparing habaneros for hot wing orders. Antonio later gained experience in hot sauce research and development, and when we met, he shared his dream of having his own label. Our flavor ideas come from road trips where we discuss and combine different ingredients, with Antonio expertly creating the sauces.
Q. How do you source your ingredients and do any of them have a special connection to the island?
A. We source our ingredients as much as possible from the Galveston’s Own Farmers Market, which supports local elementary school gardens. For example, we used carrots harvested by kids for our Pirate Potion sauce. We also get honey from various locations in Galveston County and source some ingredients from the Houston Farmer’s Market, including napales for a new secret sauce coming soon.
Q. What is your favorite way to enjoy your hot sauce that might surprise other people?
A. My favorite surprising way is adding hot sauce to a dirty martini, turning it into a ‘dirty bloody,’ which is a 10 out of 10. Another favorite is melting our ghost scorpion and reaper-infused hot sauce in butter and pouring it over popcorn for a milder Flamin’ Hot Cheetos flavor. The hot sauce on fruits like watermelon or kiwi is also amazing.

Galveston native La Kesha Golliday is the proud owner and creative mind behind Mrs. G’s Divine Creations, a bakery that blends passion, purpose, and Southern sweetness. What started as a love for baking alongside family has grown into a business that touches hearts one dessert at a time. Known for her warm spirit and delicious creations, La Kesha pours love and intention into every recipe, making each treat a reflection of her faith, family, and community. Through Mrs. G’s Divine Creations, she continues to spread joy and remind others that baking is more than a skill, it’s a way to connect, give, and uplift.

Q. What inspired your love for baking?
A. My love for baking was inspired by growing side by side with my grandmothers and father, watching them cook and bake, seeing the joy their food brought to others, and feeling the warmth that came from their kitchen. Over time, I came to understand that baking, for me, is more than just creating something sweet; it’s a ministry, a way to be a blessing to others through the work of my hands and the love I put into every recipe.
Q. How do you come up with new flavor combinations?
A. Honestly, I come up with new flavors by watching Social media platform reels and other bakers like myself, as well as the input of my customers. I’m always open to trying something at least once.
Q. What motivates you to keep pushing?
A. What motivates me to keep pushing is most definitely the support from my Husband, Malcolm, and my daughters, Makia and Makayla. And the support from returning customers and people who recognize the brand when I’m out and about and wearing a Mrs G’s Divine Creation T-Shirt.
Q. If you could bake for anyone, past or present, who would it be and what would you make?
A. If I could bake for anyone in the past, it would be for my grandmothers and dad. To show them the impact they made on me and how I turned my passion into purpose. If I could bake for anyone present, I’m open to baking for anyone who hasn’t had a Mrs G’s Divine creations cake, and I guarantee my cakes will remind you of your “Big Mama.”
Founded on November 28, 1859, the Rosenberg Library began as Galveston’s first public library and has since grown into one of Texas’s most treasured cultural institutions. Its establishment was made possible through the generosity of Henry Rosenberg, a Swiss immigrant, banker, and philanthropist whose vision was to create a place where people of all backgrounds could freely access books, information, and education.
The library’s original collection was modest, but its importance to the Galveston community quickly became clear. In the aftermath of the 1900 Galveston Hurricane, which devastated much of the city, Rosenberg’s endowment funded the construction of a new and more permanent home for the library. Completed in 1904, the elegant Beaux-Arts building that still stands today was designed by renowned architect Eugene Heiner and remains a landmark of both learning and architectural beauty.
Beyond its impressive book collections, the Rosenberg Library also houses the Galveston and Texas History Center, which preserves rare manuscripts, maps, photographs, and artifacts documenting the island’s rich and sometimes turbulent past. These archives make it an invaluable resource for historians, genealogists, and anyone interested in Texas history.
More than 160 years after its founding, the Rosenberg Library continues to uphold Henry Rosenberg’s dream—a place where knowledge is shared freely, history is preserved, and the community comes together to learn and grow. It proudly stands as the oldest continuously operating public library in Texas, a living monument to education, resilience, and civic generosity.

In the late 1800s, Chinese immigrants settled in Galveston, working in laundries, shrimping, and railroads. While the Chinatown has vanished, historic traces remain in records and architecture.
In 1947, Galveston held a fish fry for over 30,000 people, setting a record. They used over 6 tons of fish and fried them in massive outdoor vats.
In the 1980s, NBC filmed a daytime soap opera called Texas entirely in Galveston. It was a spin-off of Another World and used real island locations, including the Tremont House and Seawall, before being canceled in 1982.
Over centuries, hundreds of ships have wrecked off Galveston’s coast—from Spanish galleons to Civil War blockade runners. Wreckage would wash ashore, and locals salvaged wood, copper, and even liquor to build homes, tools, and art—a practice known as wrecking.
