Island Trading has always been close to our local community, so to be able to help empower and support the women where our furniture is produced, is important to us. In the Indonesian town of Surabaya, many women are unemployed and they have been left to support their families on their own.
MATERIALS
Teak
PREMIUM TEAK
Aluminum
Stainless Steel
We are proud that 100% of the teak used in the Bermuda Collection is sustainably sourced and environmentally friendly. All of the wood is responsibly grown in Indonesia and controlled by the government to ensure that it remains a renewable source of income for future generations.
Teak is one of only a few tropical hardwoods that is ideal for Bermuda’s climate. Due to its dense nature, high content of silica and oils, it is hard wearing and naturally resistant to rot and impervious to insects.
During the selection process each teak log is carefully selected and sustainably harvested with the aim that all the wood used must originate from slow-grown mature trees. In the conversion into furniture components, virtually nothing is wasted. Shavings and saw dust are recycled into agricultural products while o cuts serve as bio-fuel that is burnt to generate energy. The uniform colour of our sustainable sourced teak wood is achieved through careful selection, not manipulation with chemicals such as bleaches and stains. This ensures that when left untreated, the wood will over time develop a natural silver grey patina.
POWDER COATING
Our powder coats are durable outdoor grade polyester-based finishes that are electrostatically applied to the substrate. Aluminum substrates are chemically pre-treated, while stainless substrates are mechanically and chemically pre-treated.
WICKER
Anthracite
Cavello Bay, Church Bay, Castle Harbour, Bailey’s Bay, Cooper’s Island
All our wicker chairs, the wicker is man-made, colorfast, UV resistant and recyclable. The wicker is an extruded high density polyethylene (PE). The application onto the frames is done by skilled craftsman. A craft that has been passed on through several generations of skilled weavers.

Designers
Povl Eskildsen
A product of the classic Danish furniture tradition, Povl’s interest in design in general and furniture design in particular, started at a young age on the shop floor of his parent’s furniture factory in Salling, Denmark. Povl studied architecture at the renowned Aarhus School of Architecture. He initially worked with a number of Danish indoor furniture companies before turning his sights on outdoor furniture. Working with among others, Trip-Trap and Gloster, Povl brought a new sense of design into the outdoor furniture industry, in particular in teak furniture, where his designs brought the elegance & comfort that had been the norm in Danish indoor furniture for decades to a category where heft and weight rather than design and comfort had been key selling parameters.
Dick Björk
Dick´s interest in furniture design was ignited at an early age where he spent a considerable amount of time in his parent’s iconic furniture shop in Helsingborg, Sweden. Starting in his teenage years, Dick funded his passion for design by working after school and weekends assembling furniture, a task that laid the foundation for his passion for perfecting even the smallest of details. Dick went on to study metal work and trained as a cabinetmaker. Having worked as a craftsman at some of Sweden’s leading furniture producers, Dick turned to furniture design. His early work include pioneering mixed material outdoor furniture for legendary Berga Form of Sweden.
Susanne Grønlund
A graduate from the prestigious Royal Danish Academy, Susanne has since the early nineties designed a plethora of successful products that include furniture, fabrics, kitchenware, lamps and safety products.
Susanne’s designs are rooted in the Scandinavian tradition of simplicity and elegance with a strong focus on both aesthetics and functionality. Sustainability is an important consideration in her design process. Many of Susanne's projects have earned her internationally renowned design awards including the RedDot Design Award, the Good Design Award, the Norwegian Design Prize and the German Design Award.
