OUR FABRIC DESIGNERS
Island Batik’s design team is led by Creative Director Jerry Khiev, whose vision and guidance shape each collection from concept to completion.
“Our collaborative design process is one of my favorite parts of the job,” Jerry shares. “I’m passionate about art and design, and I love seeing how each designer’s unique style comes through. We blend handdrawn artistry with digital and computerized techniques, working together through every stage—from black-and-white sketches and scaling to selecting colorways. There’s nothing like seeing those first strikeoffs after all the creative groundwork has been laid.”
This spirit of collaboration is at the heart of Island Batik’s identity, helping us bring The Best from Bali to quilt shops and quilters around the world.

PROJECT ORDERING INFORMATION
HOW YARDAGE IS CALCULATED
Designer projects are shown with yardage charts and QR codes.
“Order All Fabrics” QR code will order all of the fabrics in the chart to meet the yardage requirements for the number of kits the shop would like; the shop will be given the option to include or exclude Backing and Binding fabrics. If a Backing or Binding fabric is a SKU that has been repeated elsewhere in the chart, a second bolt will be placed on order. Yardages will not be added together. Chart calculations are made with 11 yard and 14 yard bolts to account for varying bolt sizes. Large continuous cuts may require additional bolts.
Minimum order quantity (MOQ) on all patterns is 3 unless otherwise stated.
ORDERING PATTERNS AND TRUNK SHOWS
All patterns and trunk shows will be ordered from and fulfilled by the Designer. The Designer will receive a copy of your Island Batik order confirmation. Please, contact the Designer to complete your pattern purchase or trunk show request.
DESIGNER PROJECT DISCLAIMER
Not all yardage requirements are exact; ALWAYS check the pattern jacket before cutting kits. Island Batik cannot accept responsibility for yardage requirements that have been revised after the catalog has been printed. All SKUs listed multiple times are calculated multiple times when figuring bolts per 12 kits.

“Although the “Southwest Starburst” has an intricate design, the piecing techniques can be mastered quickly! Throughout the project, piecing is done using an oversized technique that is then trimmed to be the perfect size. This makes for very successful construction. Half square triangles will be mastered with the help of the Bloc Loc rulers. Quilters will have the option of doing the Queen size or two other sizes.”
- Anelie Belden, Anelie’s Quiltworks.

Inspired by a story a dear friend shared about her daughter and her fiancé, this collection celebrates love that endures across distance in today’s world. She is immersed in college life, juggling studies and deadlines, while he faces the strict structure of boot camp, where military regulations forbid any outside communication using technology. Their connection can only survive through letters, handwritten notes exchanged across miles, each word carrying intention, emotion, and hope.
Despite these limits, their devotion shines through every carefully folded envelope and pen-stroked page. I wanted to capture the intimacy and tenderness of those moments, the feelings poured onto paper and the quiet comfort of knowing someone far away is thinking of you.
The colors of this collection capture the youthful, exhilarated energy of young love. Bright, playful tones and rich,
sentimental hues give the fabrics a lighthearted, romantic feel, offering a modern throwback to the handwritten correspondence that inspired the Missing You collection, yet with a fresh, contemporary voice. By sharing some of the same designs, Sweet Sentiments honors those timeless stories of love and separation. Though seventy five years separate the experiences of letters written during the Korean War and those sent from a modern-day boot camp, the emotions remain the same: longing, devotion, and the struggle to stay connected across distance.
Sweet Sentiments celebrates envelopes sealed with love, postmarks filled with longing, and handwritten words stitched into fabric. It’s a tribute to enduring love, the magic of letters, and the personal connection they create. In a world dominated by instant messages, this collection invites us to slow down, savor the act of writing, and cherish the heartfelt touch of a handwritten note.
For anyone who has loved from afar, treasured the nostalgia of handwritten letters, or simply values heartfelt communication in a fast-paced world, Sweet Sentiments wraps you in warmth, emotion, and hope, a celebration of love that is always worth

Mail Sentiments BOM Shop Kit
Inspired by the timeless magic of handwritten letters, Snail Mail celebrates the slow, meaningful journey of love carried across the miles. In this quilt, whimsical snails pull tiny letters along, while lovebirds perch nearby, echoing the tender devotion shared between two hearts separated by distance.
This BOM design reflects the youthful, playful energy of young love in a modern throwback to the tradition of snail mail. Each appliqué and motif honors the thoughtfulness, patience, and heartfelt connection found in every handwritten letter, a gentle reminder that love is always worth the wait.” - Terri Vanden Bosch, Lizard Creek Quilting.

“I have found the one my heart loves.” – Song of Solomon 3:4
My Inspiration
This fabric collection is a tribute to enduring love, heartfelt devotion, and the quiet strength found in life’s most tender moments. It began with soft pencil-written words of affection on yellowed tablet paper, timeless love letters, lovingly stored in shoeboxes tied with cotton string.
I was inspired by the weathered envelopes of well-traveled airmail, and the deep patriotism of my father-in-love, a veteran who served with pride. But what touched me most was his unwavering devotion to his wife, who battled rheumatoid arthritis from the age of 12. He gave up dreams, like returning to Amsterdam during R&R, to ensure she had the care she needed.
Their young love stood the test of time. Through all the years apart their devotion was unwavering as they wrote letters to each other every day while he carried out his military service. After his passing, I found those letters and I couldn’t bear to let them go. I never read them until I started to make the quilts. Somehow, it felt enough just to hold onto them.
After Dad entered the nursing home, just three months before the COVID lockdown, I only saw him in person once more before he passed away two years later. Three months after his death, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. My world was shaken.
of Lizard Creek Quilting
So when Island Batik invited me to design my first original batik collection, the choice was clear: Mom and Dad’s letters. This journey has been one of deep healing, through grief, through illness, and through rediscovery. Finally reading those letters and drawing inspiration from their simple, beautiful stories has helped mend places in my heart I didn’t know were still broken.
This collection is my tribute, to love that lasts, to moments that matter, and to the quiet beauty of handwritten words. May these hand-drawn fabrics evoke your own cherished memories and offer comfort, connection, and peace to all who use them.

“True love stories never have endings.” -Richard Bach. Mail Call is a tribute to enduring love through handwritten letters, sent across the ocean during the 1950’s war time. Quilt blocks will be brought to life each month through snippets from the letters my in-laws wrote daily to each other. One talks about how a letter could be air-mailed from Iowa to Germany in no less than 4 days? Great starter talking points for in-person BOM meetings. Designing this quilt has given me such a renewed respect and love for my now passed in-laws and also those who have loved ones in the military.” -Terri Vanden Bosch, Lizard Creek Quilting.

“The design for this pattern started out trying to make a “Farmhouse” type block, but it ended up in this RWB collection as a stars-and-stripes type design.
