OUR FABRIC DESIGNERS

Island Batik’s talented team of industry designers is led by our Creative Director, Jerry Khiev, who provides guidance and inspiration throughout the batik design process.

“I love art and design, and our collaborative approach allows each designer’s unique style to shine. We bring different perspectives to the creative process, blending hand-drawn artistry with digital and computerized techniques. It’s always exciting to see the strike-offs after working through the early stages - developing black-and-white art, scaling designs, and selecting colorways - to create a beautifully curated seasonal collection.”

This spirit of collaboration strengthens the Island Batik brand, allowing us to bring The Best from Bali to quilt shops and quilters around the world!

PROJECT ORDERING INFORMATION

HOW YARDAGE IS CALCULATED

Designer projects are shown with yardage charts and QR codes.

“Order All Fabrics” QR code will order all of the fabrics in the chart to meet the yardage requirements for the number of kits the shop would like; the shop will be given the option to include or exclude Backing and Binding fabrics. If a Backing or Binding fabric is a SKU that has been repeated elsewhere in the chart, a second bolt will be placed on order. Yardages will not be added together. Chart calculations are made with 11 yard and 14 yard bolts to account for varying bolt sizes. Large continuous cuts may require additional bolts.

Minimum order quantity (MOQ) on all patterns is 3 unless otherwise stated.

ORDERING PATTERNS AND TRUNK SHOWS

All patterns and trunk shows will be ordered from and fulfilled by the Designer. The Designer will receive a copy of your Island Batik order confirmation. Please, contact the Designer to complete your pattern purchase or trunk show request.

DESIGNER PROJECT DISCLAIMER

Not all yardage requirements are exact; ALWAYS check the pattern jacket before cutting kits. Island Batik cannot accept responsibility for yardage requirements that have been revised after the catalog has been printed. All SKUs listed multiple times are calculated multiple times when figuring bolts per 12 kits.

PRECUT PROJECT

“This dragonfly quilt pattern, “Fluttering Fey”, was inspired by the elegance and vibrancy of wetlands teeming with life. It captures the delicate balance of nature, where dragonflies skim across shimmering water, surrounded by cattails and lush greenery. This pattern combines intricate raw edge appliqué with large English Paper Piecing to create a show-stopping centerpiece or wall hanging. It invites quilters to explore their creativity while celebrating the beauty of these whimsical winged creatures.” - Sondrasa, Art Quilts by Design.

“Banno is a term of endearment for a bride (or a bride-to-be). The red and gold hues are reminiscent of an Indian bride - beautiful, blushing and full of hopes and dreams. Although black is to be avoided for all auspicious occasions, a little touch is meant to address and remove the evil eye or the negativity that may befall the bride. A scrappy border, made from leftovers completes the look.”

DESIGNER SPOTLIGHT

Designer Spotlight Denise Looney, Quiltery

A humble quilter and pattern designer, Denise Looney of Quiltery has been quilting since 1986. In 2017, she published her first pattern, “For the Love of Geese”. Denise enjoys challenging herself by designing Foundation Paper Piecing designs that give the appearance of curves with no Y seams or curved piecing. She has been an Island Batik Ambassador since 2019 and enjoys long-arming her projects.

The Floral Fusion pattern is very versatile. For instance, the directions offer a patchwork background, but can easily adapt to a solid background. It is great for playing with color, too! The maker can add more blocks to the top, bottom, or the sides for a larger version, or add a fence row all the way around the quilt. This is a fusible appliqué pattern with a recommended finishing stitch around the shapes.
