MEET OUR VICE PRESIDENT, DESIGN SERVICES My only rule when it comes to design is that there are no rules! With fabric design, anything goes. I think you’ll love the fabrics in our Fall and Winter collections - rich, vibrant colors in an array of patterns - organic mixed with abstract and a touch of whimsy.� Kathy plays an important role in mentoring Island Batik’s new collection designers and overseeing the collections of our more advanced designers. Her strong esthetic and wealth of knowledge has assisted many a young designer launch their first batik collection. Between the Fall and Winter seasons, Kathy is introducing thirteen gorgeous new cotton collections inspired by her world travels - London Fog, French Roasted, Tuscany Sun, and Hollywood Hills to name a few. She developed two additional collections exclusively for Cheri Good Quilt Design and Tamarinis, matching their respective aesthetics perfectly. Kathy has also curated the in-stock Basics, Blenders, Neutrals and Backings collections and the Rayons collection.
KATHY ENGLE Kathy Engle is the creative genius behind the bold and beautiful batik collections at Island Batik. She brings her talents to every aspect of the batik process. “I’ve always been passionate about art and design! After my combined 30 years of designing textiles with Hoffman of California and Island Batik, each new design and fabric line is a thrill to create. I draw my inspiration from nature, pulling elements from the shapes and textures I find during my time spent outdoors.

DESIGNER FEATURE, CLAUDIA PFEIL International renowned, award winning machine quilter Cladia Pfeil teamed up with Island Batik to bring the Crystal Cove fabric collection to life in her two new quilts Straight Arrow and Italian Fresco. Claudia started her career in teaching patchwork and quilting after her first son was born in 1992. As a quilt shop owner she loves to play with fabrics and colors. As a Long arm-quilter she got her APQS Millennium in 2005 to play with different textures, structures and motiefs like feathers and leaves. She is completely addicted to the world of patchwork and quilting! Coordinating Aurifil thread collections accent the fabrics used in Claudia’s quilts perfectly.
