OUR WORK WITH ORPHANS With your support, our Orphan Sponsorship Program has helped transform countless lives, families, and communities around the world. We’ve grown exponentially – ten years ago, we sponsored 198 orphans around the world.

Today, this number is over 16,900 alhamdulillah.

Islamic Relief’s orphan sponsorship program is very comprehensive, and one of our most successful and effective programs. We work hard to ensure the well being of the children in our care. Our field officers conduct yearly assessments, in addition to periodic check ins to ensure the children are safe and looked after.

Looking after more than financial need, we work to make sure the child gets an education, has access to healthcare and the opportunity to grow and flourish. This special program cares for all orphans around the world regardless of race, religion, or gender.

Your donations towards the Orphan Care Fund helps us address and fill the urgent gaps that are not covered through the orphan sponsorship program. This includes providing medical, infrastructural, and educational support for vulnerable orphan families who need extra support. This year, this fund is also helping provide sustainable livelihoods and water assistance to drought stricken widows, orphans and people with disabilities in Pakistan.

ORPHAN CARE PROJECTS For over a decade, the Quetta and Chagai districts in Balochistan, Pakistan, have faced one of the worst droughts, and are suffering from a lack of food, clean water and health services. This has disproportionately affected women, children, and people with disabilities.

Our innovative SALWA project (Sustainable Action for Livelihood and Water Assistance) helps provide sustainable livelihoods and water assistance to those who are struggling in the face of chronic poverty and drought in Pakistan.

As part of this project, your donations are helping to directly transform the lives of 200 widows and vulnerable beneficiaries for the better.

Your support helps them grow their own food locally, conserve water for drinking and irrigation, and be more resilient in the face of climate change. We help provide solutions like drought resistant seeds and technologies, poultry and animals to raise and benefit from, tools and resources, expert skills training and capacity building, as well as a water-saving irrigation system and help in water management.

Tackling the root cause of poverty in these communities directly improves the lives of thousands of orphan children, providing them with sustainable food, clean water, education and the chance to have a childhood.

YOSRA’S STORY 5 YEARS OLD SAADA, YEMEN

This year, as the catastrophic situation in Yemen escalated, you responded with your care and generosity. Your donations were able to send valuable food packs and hygiene kits, as well as sponsor orphans in dire need. Orphaned children like Yosra, whose story you can read below: Yosra is a cheerful girl, and alhamdulillah she’s in good health.

She is too young to join school right now, but her siblings go to school (Thikara is in fourth grade and Nashwan is in third grade). Her father was a driver who passed away due to a heart attack.

Yosra and her family are living in a rented house, where they pay $40 per month in rent. Her uncle works as labourer to support his family as well as Yosra’s family. However, what he receives from his wage is not enough to cover the family’s needs or pay the rent.

After being sponsored by Islamic Relief, Yosra’s mother says, “The situation gets worse by the day due to the war. Prices for food, water and commodities have increased, so thank you so much for sponsorship in this hard time”. Her mother is now able to spend the sponsorship money on essential needs at home for her children.

Her mother said, “Thank you for standing beside me till now. I ask Allah to put you near our beloved Prophet in paradise.”
