Introduction ,VODPLF 5HOLHI KHOSV SHRSOH LQ GLIÂżFXOW WLPHV The  Gaza  Strip,  Palestine,  is  now  facing  a  big  challenge  while  the  whole  world  is  busy  following  the  news  of  a  war  on  Syria  in  the  0LGGOH (DVW The  turmoil  in  Egypt  has  had  a  devastating  effect  on  Gaza  with  the  border  being  tightened  even  more,  worsening  the  situation  for  Gazans  who  are  already  living  under  GLIÂżFXOW FLUFXPVWDQFHV HFRQRPLFDOO\ DQG VRFLDOO\ Efforts  did  not  stop  to  help  families  who  are  LQ GLUH QHHG IRU ,VODPLF 5HOLHI :H FRQWLQXH our  support  for  the  Palestinians  especially  in  *D]D 6WULS The  matter  now  is  not  providing  small  support  that  ends  after  a  couple  of  weeks;Íž  it’s  time  to  provide  a  longer  solution  to  help  families  VXUYLYH LQ GLJQLW\

The  situation  in  Gaza  Strip  LV LGHQWL¿HG DV D SURWHFWLRQ crisis  with  humanitarian  con-­ sequences,  with  the  over-­ arching  humanitarian  needs  change  little  from  one  year  to  DQRWKHU

The  vulnerability  of  the  civilian  population  in  the  Gaza  Strip  has  been  H[DFHUEDWHG E\ WKH LQWHQVL¿FDWLRQ RI the  land,  air  and  sea  blockade  imposed  since  2007 'HVSLWH VRPH HDVLQJ measures  implemented  since  mid-­2010,  the  blockade  is  still  on  going  for  a  sixth  year  to  impact  the  lives  of  all  Gazans,  driving  many  deeper  into  poverty  and  XQHPSOR\PHQW

Gaza  Economy Gazans  suffer  shortages  of  essential  commodities  and  the  rise  in  market  prices  KDV PDGH LW GLIÂżFXOW IRU IDPLOLHV WR KDYH DGHTXDWH KHDOWK\ DQG EDODQFHG GLHW 7KH LQWHQVLÂżHG EORFNDGH ODQG DLU DQG VHD LV VWLOO RQ JRLQJ IRU LWV VL[WK \HDU Combined  with  high  poverty  and  unemployment  rates,  severely  damaged  infrastructure  and  longstanding  economic  restrictions,  this  has  given  rise  to  major  KXPDQLWDULDQ FKDOOHQJHV Palestine’s  economy  faces  a  number  of  structural  challenges  that  are  not  typical  WR RWKHUV DURXQG WKH ZRUOG :KHUHDV PRVW economies  rely  on  the  simple  calculus  of  supply  and  demand,  Palestinian  policy  makers  must  contend  with  two  important  structural  challenges:  -­  the  intensive  dependence  upon  international  aid  and  -­  the  dynamic  impacts  of  the  occupation,  both  of  which  can  shift  according  to  political,  rather  than  economic,  FRQVLGHUDWLRQV

Poverty:  The  relative  poverty  line  and  the  GHHS SRYHUW\ OLQH IRU UHIHUHQFH KRXVHKROG RI DGXOWV DQG FKLOGUHQ LQ WKH 3DOHVWLQLDQ Territory  in  2012  were  2,293  NIS,  and  1,832  1,6 UHVSHFWLYHO\ 7KH SRYHUW\ UDWH DPRQJ 3DOHVWLQLDQ LQGLYLGXDOV LV LQ WKH :HVW %DQN LQ *D]D 6WULS Unemployment:  Using  ILO  standards,  the  number  of  unemployed  was  about  260,000  in  the  4th  quarter  2012,  about  139,000  in  the  :HVW %DQN DQG DERXW LQ *D]D 6WULS The  unemployment  rate  in  Gaza  Strip  was  FRPSDUHG ZLWK LQ WKH :HVW %DQN WKH XQHPSOR\PHQW UDWH IRU PDOHV ZDV FRPSDUHG ZLWK IRU IHPDOHV
