MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN CHRIS VAN RENSBURG REFLECTION ON THE STATE OF THE INDUSTRY IN 2017 The state of the industry in 2017 was mainly dictated by political choices that had an adverse effect on the trading environment in South Africa. We saw increases in commodity prices together with deviations in the Rand, which soon stabilised and we started doing business from a new platform.

Consumer complaints The JCSA is an Alternative Dispute Resolution Agent which currently functions only in regard to complaints against members in good standing with the council.

The members sign a Code of Ethics and Conduct and are subordinate to the mediation and arbitration processes of the council by virtue of its Memorandum of Incorporation. This means that we will not be able to assist consumers with a complaint against a jeweller which is not a member of the JCSA, as we have no jurisdiction over them.
