Request for Support Hello line dance family! For several years, free of charge, we’ve produced Your Other Left, the only 100% urban line dance class and event calendar for the tristate area. Our work has truly been a labor of love! Our goal was simple: provide an easy way for dancers to find local line dance classes that fit into their schedule, and learn about events to attend for fun and fellowship. Unfortunately, as of January 2026, our publishing platform has moved to a paid model of $33 per month in order to produce a publication of this size. We do not want to charge individual readers—we want Your Other Left to remain free for dancers to use, for teachers to list their classes, and for event organizers to market their parties. And so, we are asking for donations to keep Your Other Left free. By 'buying us a coffee' (supporting through a donation) you ensure we can pay our software fees and keep our community connected. Every single dollar you donate will go straight to the technology that makes this publication possible! Essential Line Essential Line Dance Dance Basic Rules to Know Before You Hit The Floor
ETIQUETTE
Maintain Lines: Dance in straight rows to keep the floor organized, even if the formation is loose. Be Courteous: Never walk across the dance floor while others are dancing. Respect Space: Avoid touching or bumping into other dancers. If you collide, apologize. Also, make room for others on the floor, particularly for popular dances. No Drinks on the Floor: Drinks are prohibited on the dance floor to prevent spills, slips, and injuries. Please do not bring glasses, bottles, or cups of liquid to the floor. Flow of Traffic: Particularly for advanced and fast dances, learn the dance first to understand how it moves around the floor. Handling Beginner Mistakes: If you don’t know a dance well, stand on the sidelines or at the back to learn, rather than in the center, to avoid disrupting others. Don't Stop to Teach: Avoid stopping in the middle of the floor to teach, as it breaks the line and interrupts the dance. Follow the Leader: If a "split floor" happens (different dances for one song), join the group dancing the version you know, or find a spot at the edge of the dance floor. Leaving the Floor: If you must leave in the middle of a song, wait for a break in the dancing and exit to the edge, rather than walking through the middle. Advanced Dances: If you see a new advanced dance with heavy footwork and fast changes, never try to follow alongside dancers in the middle of the floor. Find a spot at the far edge of the dance floor if you’d like to try out steps. Have Fun: It’s line dance. It’s okay to smile, laugh, give hugs, and make new friends.
