Against the Current: Migration and Health in the Mediterranean Description
Requirements
This course provides the basic tools and knowledge necessary to: • Identify health needs and disparities among migrants in the Mediterranean region, and best practices for meeting these needs, including screening, diagnosis and management, across infectious, non-communicable diseases, physical disability, and child health. • Identify health needs and disparities in mental health, and how culture may impact health needs and health-seeking behaviour. • Understand policy actions through a case-study, including ethical and professional obligations to maintaining healthy populations in the Mediterranean region, both in patient care and population research. • Understand how to work with interpreters effectively through simulation.
Health professionals (medical doctors, nurses…) and public health officers.
Programme • Health needs and prevalence of diseases (Infectious diseases and Non communicable diseases) • Screening and vaccine programs • Migration health policy needs and best practices • Psychological, physical and sexual trauma • Mental health screening, diagnosis and management across cultures The programme will include:
• A health policy case-study
• Group exercise with interpreters (simulation exercise).

Candidates should have an advanced level of English, which is the language of the course.
Assesment Students will be assessed based on: • Oral presentation of a case study on migrant health policies • Participation in class
