I once participated in a debate here the motion as Different groups of minorities should ha e their o n holida . When it as announced that m team had to argue the opposing side, e kne e had no shot at inning. As the third speaker, I had plent of time to gather m thoughts, including being able to ha e the last ord. When debating, a member of the affirmati e team said something about ho members of the LGBTQ+ communit had their o n month, and ho it orked out great for them.

This is hen m main point started forming in m head. Yes, the LGBTQ+ communit ha e their o n month, but e can also still be legall killed in 39 states in the US alone using the panic defense strateg . Yes, e get a month, but e en during that month, e alk outside e er da ith another threat to our life. Adding on to the fact that I m a oman and Asian, it s a toss up on hich part of me could get hate crime hen I alk do n the street. An a , the point of that as to sa e en though e get a month, it doesn t change an thing. The onl thing that reall comes out of it is the representation.

Representation Because of ho the LGBTQ+ communit is not et normali ed in e er one s minds, coming out and o ning our se ualit can still be a er difficult task. This is h representation in media and other fields matter. When a famous figure, fictional or real, or someone ou kno comes out as part of the LGBTQ+ communit , ou automaticall feel like ou ha e a friend. You feel safe kno ing a respected or popular figure is just like ou in a a . This also spreads the LGBTQ+ communit to people ho might not kno much about it and encourages them to find out more about it. I personall ha e found out so much more about the communit just b scrolling through m social media feed, and kno ing that m friends ha e seen that post as ell gi es me peace of mind. One positi e thing about quarantine as the full reali ation and therefore comfort about m se ualit . The absolute lo ingness to ards the LGBTQ+ communit m Tik Tok for ou page sho ed me ga e me comfort in being a bise ual. For a long time, I as bi-curious, but onl because I didn't ant to accept m self in fear of other people not accepting me back. Throughout quarantine, I as educated and comforted b hat I sa on social media and came out hen I as read .

Stereot pes Stereot pes, in an sense, can be harmful. In the LGBTQ+ communit , stereot pes are especiall harmful hen the re used to insult or classif people. A common stereot pe I hear is hat is considered male and female clothing. When men ear skirts, crop tops, or dresses, ou t picall see them getting made fun of for being feminine, then being called ga as an insult. This is usuall their to ic and fragile masculinit sho ing itself, but I do ant to sa that a gu not anting to do more feminine things IS NOT to ic masculinit . E er one has preferences, and if the just don t like earing skirts that s fine. Ho e er, if the bull other people for doing said things, that is to ic.While I as bi-curious, another thing that didn t make me full belie e I as bi, as because of people telling me ou can onl be bi if ou ha e a larger preference to the same gender, or the split must be 50/50. THIS IS NOT TRUE. Being bi does not necessaril mean ou ha e a 50/50 split or like the same gender more. You can ha e a larger preference to ards an gender. This stereot pes onl purpose as to in alidate sm bise ualit , and if commonl said can confuse people about hat bise ualit is.

Although the imminent goal is to make se ualit , not a big deal, it is still important to be educated on stereot pes and representation so ou can respect our mutuals. When e learn about these things and appl them to e er da life, it ill increase the feeling of normalit for people in the LGBTQ+ communit .

Personalit Personalit , according to the Big Fi e Model, states that each person is on a spectrum of fi e different traits.

Openness is the first trait in the Big Fi e model. People ho score the highest in this field are more likel to ha e an appreciation for art and beaut , a lo e for e ploration, a big and abstract imagination, and is more of a creati e person o erall.

People ho score high in openness, ho e er, tend to be less focused and make impulsi e descions.

When I took the personalit test, all of the traits ere scored at around 40-50%, the onl outlier being consciousness, hich I scored 86% in. When ou score high in this area, ou most likel ha e high e pectations for ourself, are focused, ell organi ed, and stubborn. Though these can all be positi e, there are ob ious negati es to being er conscientious. Ha ing high e pectations for ourself can lead to depression and an iet , and stubbornness can account for a fi ed mindset. Scoring high in consciousness implies our openness and e tro ersion score might not be so high, as the personalit I Book tells us: Lo conscientiousness is associated ith fle ibilit and spontaneit

Being an e tro ert isn t onl about being confident.

E tra ersion is also linked ith ha ing high social intelligence, confidence, and high energ le els. Like openness, e tro erted people usuall think less hen making decisions due to high confidence le els. The opposite of an e tro ert, as e er one kno s, is an intro ert.

Being agreeable is a er good trait to possess. Agreeable people ha e the need to make e er bod happ . Because of this, the are er kind and caring people. Man people put their trust into agreeable people, as their kindness can come off as trust orth . Some people, ho e er, can see that being too agreeable comes off as t o faced, as since the ant to please e er bod , the re pla ing both sides.

High le els of neuroticism can be linked to high stress, frequent mood s ings, and getting easil upset. As stated hen e plaining consciousness, neuroticism can be caused b not being content in one's achie ements. People ho deal ith neuroticism notice that it usuall lasts for a long period of time, but neuroticism isn't onl a bad thing, as people ith good le els of neuroticism sa it s easier to interpret threats and feel small frustrations, t o things that can help in dangerous situations.

It is important to understand these fi e personalit traits because just like e er thing, each trait has its positi es and negati es, and the onl a e can utili e the positi es is if e understand the do nsides.

Considering the concept of stereotypes, in my opinion, I would say the answer to this question is always, a belief that ranks or names a certain group of individuals that is used to show those very individuals in a certain, same way, sounds like we re silencing a huge portion of that population. With such a large group of people believing in the same way, there s not a lot of room for objections or opinions that could be shared or made that would greatly impact the crowd, unless enough people get up and start fighting for what they think is right. With representation, however, I would also say that it s also very important, as representation also leads to stereotypes. Representation is showing a group of people in a way that could be depicted as either positive or negative by society, so how a group is shown could greatly impact the reputation of those who are represented in that light.

When I was young I used to study in an all-girl Thai school, back in the days it was always the norm to pick on or tease the male students because doing so would somehow make you come off as dominant, strong, and intimidating. As a child, I never understood this tradition that went on in my school, I ve always felt extremely uncomfortable as I watched or listened to my friends go on about how they ve kicked a boy, or the boys are scared of me because, in such a prideful manner. The idea baffles me to how being so spiteful and mean to another human person could be so validated and beloved by others, and I always tried my best to stand up for them or so by either not participating in the act or making remarks like, but they re people too, just because they re born as a guy means they deserve to be used as a punching bag to boost your reputation. All of this just because of how there was just this repulsive and popular belief that guys are supposed to be superior and strong and that girls are weak and incapable has made the girls in my school decide to go out of their way to, Take them down. In a desperate attempt to prove a point that they re also just as good, or even better.

Things like this sadly occur globally, like for example an article regarding gender stereotypes, says that When it came to relationships, boys were consistently viewed as being the ones allowed to take the first step except in one city — Edinburgh, Scotland. ( Newsela | Gender Roles in Children Are Set by around Age 10, a New Study Says. ) This stereotype states that boys are expected to be independent, tough, and strong and the one to do the choosing, this is a very harmful stereotype people who fall under the category of male are expected to follow these stereotypes and if they do have issues or problems, they might be too afraid to find help for said troubles since it could be deemed as unfit for society or not important.

This can lead to many issues as the individuals who have heard this stereotype regarding their gender might feel cornered and alone as they can t go to anyone even if they re still a child and that they must force themselves to be a certain way because of it. Another example of an extremely harmful stereotype from the article is Children early on believe girls are weak and helpless, while boys are "strong and independent," this can lead to greater issues since it opens up a huge pathway of predators and dangers all around to the individual who is believed to be incapable or so since they are believed to be an easy target. Another evidence from the same Newsela article states that Researchers found that gender stereotypes that emphasize female passivity can encourage abuse. This proves my point of how harmful and dangerous these beliefs, ideas, and concepts of victimizing and minimizing a person because of their gender can be.

Representation plays a massive part in society, with how important it is, how we're going to introduce and show a culture, country, tradition or a group of minorities or majorities, we should always be mindful of what could be depicted from how those individuals are represented. Whether they re being represented in a positive or negative way, or aren t being represented enough or not represented at all, we should always consider the fact that we all want to be able to relate and connect with one another and to be able to find and see someone else who s just like us, and not only would we want to see ourselves shown somewhere out there, we would also want to be shown correctly.

With a quote, I do think it s powerful for people of a minority race to be represented in pop culture to really show a message that everybody has a place in this world, said Alec Fields, a junior at Forest Hills High School in Pennsylvania. Shows that there are indeed others out there who feel the same way with how we would like to see someone just like us somewhere out there on the media or other places, and just as successful as others, to be able to see that we are just as capable as everyone else despite our minor differences like our race or gender.

Another example of this is from the same article with another quote, We need to see people that look like ourselves and can say, ‘Oh, that looks like me! or ‘I identify with that, said Sonali Chhotalal, a junior at Cape May Technical High School in New Jersey. This proves that people need to see others who are just like them represented somewhere else in order to feel like they fit in or to be able to feel a sense of belonging somewhere, without it we might feel extremely lonely and left out with how we can t relate to anyone at all. In another article, a quote from it says that "It's hard to be out in genres where being gay, or expressing your sexuality, is frowned upon," said rapper and singer iLoveMakonnen. Stating that it is indeed negative, and bad representation does affect the people who are involved with that community where they feel less comfortable with being who they are, the quote shows how the rapper can see that his sexuality is being bashed and shunned on, representing that his community is unacceptable and greatly hated by others and causes him distress knowing so. Another important quote from that article is Hip-hop's refusal to embrace anything queer has been a blemish on the genre for as long as its been around. Rap culture has always been powered by aggressive masculinity. Classic rap lyrics can often feature gay slurs. This is another example of a negative representation.

Adolescence is another important part of how one s identity develops is that, as during adolescence the brain will start to mature and grow in a new way.

During this phase, the way the brain thinks is now mostly emotionally based and is going to question authority in order to go to its full potential and learn where the boundaries really are. This process is also the process of maturation in which after the process is finished, a person s true identity will start to show.

NDE ANDING ADOLE CENCE During the phase of adolescence, teenagers will rely on emotions more than logic when it comes to making decisions. It is important that we understand how and why teenagers act the way they do, and to sometimes forgive and not mind the things they might do on impulse, as during this phase a part of the brain that lets them control and think through their actions properly, is still developing and that sometimes when they do show aggressive behavior or perform outrageous acts, they honestly don t really mean it.

There are also other factors that come into play during this phase of growth, like for example feeling the need to gain acceptance from others that could also lead to teens performing dangerous acts or merely changing in order to fit in and adapt to the people surrounding them. As a parent, we should try to calm down and do our best to understand and reason with our teen children to why they did do the things they did and to always remember that they are merely growing up and that we should go a little easier on them as they re slowly trying their best to grow into an independent adult.

Saying that when a teenager acts their actions will be more emotion-based rather than logic-based, and that teenagers might act and do things on impulse because of how their brains would function at that time, we should try our best to understand teenagers and to give them support and to try and reason with them calmly, instead of shunning them for being unreasonable since they really can t help it due to their circumstances. During these times the brain will rely on more instinctive behaviors and to practice and sharpen it s autonomy skills, to grow and learn to make its own independent decisions. An example of why a teenager can start to display emotional behavior is from another quote from the same article, While self-esteem is a judgment made about oneself, it is strongly influenced by a number of factors, particularly the perceived judgments of other influential people. As children develop a more complex picture of who they are and what they are capable of, they start to compare themselves to other people (e.g., peers, caregivers, siblings, other people in the community) based on characteristics such as appearance, intelligence, physical abilities, artistic abilities, etc. Their self-esteem also starts to vary, with the result that children may see themselves as very capable in some areas but not in others. This means that teens who are experiencing adolescence might also display emotional behaviors like having low self-esteem as they start to realize more things and compare themselves to others. During these dire times, as a parent we should step in and help to support these teens, to let them know that they are just as good as everyone else and to help them properly get through these highs and lows.

LEA NING AND P AC ICING KILL I H EENAGE During adolescence, teenagers would focus more on learning and perfecting their skills, and that the brain will start to get rid of all unnecessary connections, memories, and abilities, as stated in the Ibook During adolescence, unused connections in the thinking and processing part of your brain (called the grey matter) are ‘pruned away. This means that they are dropped or lost, in order to strengthen others. What this means is that during these times, the teenager s brains are going to be more focused on improving on the skills you use the most. This means that in order to not forget some of their skills they ll need to practice those skills in order to not forget them. A positive side to the learning of a teen during adolescence is that they re going to be able to learn, improve and perform better on those skills, again, referring to the Ibook article, Adolescents can improve skills tremendously during this time. Their synapsis can make more connections, faster. They learn at higher rates. There are also two kinds of mindsets that a teenager can experience at this time, a growth mindset, or a fixed mindset, with a quote from the Ibook article, In a fixed mindset, students believe their basic abilities, their intelligence, their talents, are just fixed traits. This means that in a growth mindset, teens are to believe that they are born with a certain set and levels of skills and they are all naturally born and can t be improved no matter what. A growth mindset is the opposite of a fixed mindset, this suggests that we are to believe that everyone is equally as capable of doing something just as great as another person and that those skills are to be practiced and worked on.

A quote from the same Ibook article sa s that friends are actuall e tremel important to a teenager during these times, as friends are to also help shape a teenager s identit b providing them with feedback and to also support and grow alongside with them, this means that it s oka to let our teen children spend time with their friends because of how much it contributes to their growth and is also e tremel important and beneficial to them. Another quote we should consider from the article is that Social acceptance b peers triggers stronger positive emotions (a bigger reward response ) during the teen ears than it does in adulthood. This shows that during adolescence, teens could more easil fall under peer pressure and do a lot of strange things in order to gain acceptance from others during these times, this could either be positive or negative. In which, being able to fit in and being loved b their friends would make them happier, though this could also lead them to do man questionable things in order to tr and gain acceptance from others. As a guardian figure, we should closel watch our kids with the things the choose to do during adolescence, since the could easil be pressured into doing reall dangerous and stupid things, we should tr to stra them awa from dangerous things like drugs, se ual acts, etc.

The exact definition of personality is the type of person you are, shown by the way you behave, feel, and think.

This means showing who you are and how to identify yourself in ways you behave, feel, and think. There are the big 5 personality traits which is a basic way to categorize personality.

The first trait is Openness. Openness means to have a general appreciation for art, adventure, emotions, and more. This is basically curiosity. People with high openness would like to try new things and are more aware of their feelings. They would also think abstractly and have lots of ideas. For example, Jobs such as advertising, research, and other artistic occupations all benefit from high openness because they have creativity, curiosity and they are willing to try new things. From the Big 5 test, I got 81 for openness and I think it could be better if it was in the 60 70 range because concentration can be a problem in people with high levels of openness, and without concentration, it is harder to focus on things like learning. This shows when I daydream and think about other projects and stuff instead of real time things. The good side of this shows when I do design and art projects that I excel in.

The next trait would be Conscientiousness. Firstly, people My big 5 traits test results. with Conscientiousness tend to have lots of self discipline and want to achieve what they long for. They work hard and pay attention to details. People with less Conscientiousness forget their things often and are disorganized or unreliable. Examples of things people with Conscientiousness would do is completing work on time, neat, tidy school notebooks, writing slowly and clearly, and other things along that line. I got 58 for this one and I think it is pretty perfect since it s between working hard, attentive, and unreliable and disorganized. This shows in my life when I work hard and are attentive but I also sometimes get slightly disorganized and forgetful.

The third trait from the big five is Extraversion. These people have a very social life and are full of energy. They are enthusiastic and are more dominant in social settings. The opposite of extrovert is introvert, which are more reserved in social settings and don t really like attention. Examples of extroverts would be someone who likes performing on stage, like attention, and would want to be something like a TV host. For extraversion, I got 60 on the test which I think is good since you don t want to be too talkative but also still be collaborative and have a balanced social life. This is shown when I get in the loop to talk and present, I can do it very well while when I have little ideas and not really in the mood for it, I don t do as well. So kind of balanced.

Personality

The trait before the last is Agreeableness which is basically people who are more cooperative and people with less agreeableness will be more competitive and sometimes manipulative.

Agreeableness can result in good things and bad things such as not taking a long time to agree about what to have for dinner good and cheating on a race from little agreeableness bad . I got 69 on the test and I think that I should be 50 on this trait because it s basically a balance for this one since you don t want to be too cooperative and listen to everyone but also not be too competitive and bossy. I feel like it shows when I listen to others collaboratively in discussions but I also sometimes have my own opinion and fight for it reasonably.

The last and final trait is Neuroticism which in high levels shows the tendency to experience negative emotions, such as anger, anxiety, or sadness. This is not depression but more like emotional instability. This can also be good in mildly dangerous situations when others might interpret the situation as safe but people with neuroticism interpret it as threatening which can save lives. For example, a person with neuroticism are more likely to notice their breathing more than people with low levels. I got 54 on this one, which I think is great since I don t want to experience too many negative emotions but I can still be more healthy from being more aware. In summary, learning about the big 5 personality traits is very important because it can help you understand others, at least basically. This can help improve relationships and knowledge on how people act the way they do. It also helps you learn about yourself too, like when I tested myself so I know what I should try to reduce or increase. If we all know our personalities and others too, our society can have a better understanding of each other and we will know why people act differently in different social situations.

Let s start with an example of my family. My family has roots from southern china which makes part of my culture such as participating in Chinese new year tradition and more things such as having a Chinese shrine in our house.

Culture means the characteristics and knowledge of a particular group of people, such as language, cuisine, values, arts, history and beliefs.

For example, my family culture and belief is that hard work pays off so I adopt that belief and I try to finish my work so I can do other things like playing games. I think this relates to my nationality because most Thais work hard to earn money and also my roots, which are southern Chinese. My great great grandparents had to migrate from the south of China, by boat, which took them months and all they ate was rice and salt stones. This taught them to persevere and work hard. That passed on each generation and became our culture and belief. We can express ourselves through race, ethnicity and culture because it can shape how we act, talk and do things in daily life.

A simple explanation could be: If a person was asian east asian , it could be a norm for them to eat using chopsticks. Meanwhile, a person in the states would see eating with chopsticks weird and would eat with a spoon, fork, or knife. This shows that different cultures could result in different ways of seeing things. Racially, I may be identified as a Thai person but I could also be a European if I have evidence that relates to it. This shows that it should be YOU that chooses what race you are even if others say something else or classify you into a group you aren t. It s your opinion with reasons that matters.

What ethnicity or culture you adopt is also related to your family s teaching and what you think matters the most.

In conclusion, we express ourselves through race, ethnicity and culture through our own voice, not listening to what others say about our identity through race, ethnicity and culture. If we all know our own race, ethnicity and culture, and we tell others what ours is, the world could have a better understanding of one another and we can work together more effectively without dividing people.

Adolescence is important because it is the time that teenagers adopt and adapt to their new identit . During this time, some might drop their birth identit to adapt to the new identit . For example, when ou are born into a famil , the will teach ou about our culture, but ou come across different cultures from peers and through education when ou get to school. The effect of this is the perspective of words that ou use to believe might change. For instance, when ou go to a new school, ou think an t pe of shoe will be fine, but then ou start seeing ever one wearing Nike; ou tr to fit in, so ou get Nike, and ou start to feel more confident.

Being comfortable around our friends ma build our self-esteem.

Moving to a new place and adapting to the new environment is a wa adolescents can choose to conform. According to an article in (IBook, "Social acceptance b peers triggers stronger positive emotions (a bigger "reward response")) during the teen ears than it does in adulthood." this shows that being around our friends triggers happ emotions and a positive attitude to raise our self-esteem. It appears that there is a connection between peers and self-esteem.

During adolescence, the period following the onset of pubert occurs during which a oung person develops from a child into an adult. During this time, the teenager's self-esteem starts to var . For example, "As children develop a more complex picture of who the are and what the are capable of, the start to compare themselves to other people (e.g., peers, caregivers, siblings, other people in the communit ) based on characteristics such as appearance, intelligence, ph sical abilities, artistic abilities, etc. (" Excerpt From: "Book Title." Apple Books.) This means that as people go through adolescents, the start to think down on themselves and start to want to change to look like someone the wish to be. "When ou let the results define ou our talent, our test scores, our weight, our performance, our appearance ou become the victim of a fixed mindset. But when ou dedicate ourself to showing up each da and focusing on the habits that form a stronger identit , that's when ou learn and develop. Apple Books) This is important because if ou let ourself be defined as what others see of ou, ou will start to think that ou are what those people think of ou. So if someone thought of ou as fat and start to believe them, ou might want to change, and ou will start making changes. Ma be those changes ou wanted to make ends up hurting ourself. Another example of adolescence is "Furthermore, the hormonal changes that are associated with pubert , which primaril influence emotional responses, ma also create strong emotions and lead to impulsive behavior. I can relate to this because I am going through strong emotions that lead to impulsive behavior, like when I get mad at m dad, I would talk back and get m self in trouble.

In conclusion, I feel adolescents are ver important because if ou don't let our mind go through the changes ou are supposed to go through, then our teenage brain will not full develop. It ma be important, but it can also be harmful because part of going through adolescents is having risk behavior; for me, risk behavior that I had was getting in fights with m siblings. I used to push, slap m ounger sister, and I still do it, but it will be ver rare. Parents should let teenagers go through the changes because if parents don't let teenagers make risk choices, the will not live as long and be as successful. If we were to take awa the Adolescent ears, then people will not live as long or be as successful.

Racism is a big topic to cover here, so let's jump right in. Race is a powerful social categor dividing people into groups based on various sets of ph sical characteristics, structures of power, oppression, slaver , and conquest. Certain people think that just because people are different colors, the should not be treated the same. This information came from (Newsela "Race does not equal DNA"). Some believe police use deadl force because of racism. Still, studies show 59% of European Americans, 16% of African-Americans, and 23% of mixed Americans said that the police use deadl force ONLY when necessar .

This is how unsafe people feel while interacting with the police and how the think their skin color means the are different. Usuall , white people will get out of jail quicker because the have different skin colors or more mone .

African American children are more likel to be viewed as adults in a courthouse. It matters to me because we all don't get treated the same because if a white person had a lesser sentence because the have more mone and then different people of color get a larger sentence because the have less mone , people aren't going to want to feel safe to express how the feel an more. Blacks and whites can now go to the same school, use the same bathroom, people can now sit wherever on a bus without having to move for whites. It impacted me and others because now white and people of color are more equal than back then.

Culture means the characteristics and knowledge of a particular group of people, encompassing language, cuisine, values, music, and arts, histor , and beliefs. With m famil , there have been objects passed down. For example, m father, who I interviewed, passed down m sense of adventure. We both enjo doing adventurous things like scuba diving, spartan races, working out, roller coasters, and seeing the world. M culture has affected me in m life b being able to travel the world and see things other people do not get the chance to see. This has affected me because I am grateful and luck to have the chance to move and see different cultures and see how other people live, and I get to experience different cultures too. I have had the chance to experience Italian culture, and the live completel different than what I was used to. The eat dinner at 9-10 o'clock at night and eat five courses for dinner. The speak a different language, which is called Italian. I had to learn to speak the language, so I knew what people said. M mom's dad was Italian, so m mom decided to show that on her wedding da b tricking m dad at their wedding b pla ing an Italian wedding dance music, which I found reall funn .

I got the definition of (TCK) from (Newsela "As one of the "third culture kids,"), she feels both rootless and worldl ." I am a third culture child (TCK). "TCKs are children who have spent much of their earl lives outside of their parents' culture. The tend to mix their parents' culture with a new one, creating their own third culture." It is hard for me to answer questions like where are ou from because I was born in California, but I never lived there. When I was about a ear old, I moved to Virginia Beach when I was 7 or 8, I moved to Ital for four ears, after Ital I went to Washington D.C for two ears, and now I'm in Thailand. So where do I sa I'm from. When I get asked where I'm from, I will sa Florida because m dad and mom both grew up. When I get asked this, I will sa Virginia because that's where I lived the longest.

In conclusion, race and culture are similar because the both deal with people being different and looking different. Learning about these things helps me understand that ou shouldn't discharge people just because of the wa the look or where the come from. Like m friends and me, we all come from different places. I learned that m identit is Irish, Italian, American; I find it prett cool that I am from all those places. I am glad I got the chance to learn about m famil 's histor and even their funn moments.

My mom is Thai, my dad is Israeli and I was born in Hong Kong, my home and my safe place.

A home is a place you belong, I feel grateful for the experiences I ve had, and I am proud to feel like a citizen of the world. says NdĂŠla Faye, writer of the article One of many third culture kids.

She explains in the article that even though she has lived in multiple places around the world and was rootless she felt grateful and lucky to experience the culture of each.

I can surely relate to NdĂŠla Faye, during my time in Hong Kong, I ve benefited from the culture, the festivals, the food (especially the street food) and the education. I lived in an apartment complex called the Manhattan on the left side of the 35th 36th floors.

All of this definitely impacted my culture and ethnicity. Even though I couldn t speak the language and I wasn t Chinese, I still felt like I belonged because I had a deep understanding of their customs and traditions. Until now when referring to where I come from and where I was raised, I say Hong Kong.

Some of my most enamoured memories from Hong Kong included its beautiful festivals.

I remember leaning near my balcony railways peering into Stanley Beach as I watched the dragon boat racers glide, their canoes slicing through the water like origami floats.

At school, I learned the rich stories of folklore, about Nian the monster and the lady in the moon. Little me would sit there clutching my dumpling, entranced, every time I saw the lion dance.

Hong Kong is the expatriate city of China, different races and cultures blended together and still unique. In Hong Kong, I was able to immerse myself in Chinese culture whilst sharing my own.

For example, on Songkran, my mom would come to teach my classmates about the holiday, on Rosh Hashana my dad would bring a plate of fresh apples accompanied by sweet honey.

Culture is significant to everyone s identity because it can impact our views and values in life, therefore helping shape our identity. Being raised surrounded by cultural diversity allows kids to grow up with an extensive sense of appreciation for diversity. Our culture allows us to feel unique, proud and celebrated for who we are.

Many people are afraid to acknowledge the differences in culture thinking it will only further divide them. On the contrary, learning about cultural differences can actually help unify us. Culture helps us understand each other deeper by allowing us to gain insight into other peoples beliefs and morals.

Growing up, I was never a girly girl and this always made me feel out of place among my friends.

My favourite colour was green instead of the stereotypical pink and while my friends played with dolls I would be more interested in gaming or playing outdoors.

This refers to the numerous stereotypes placed upon kids at such a young age.

Having women being represented as equals to men on media allows girls to feel proud, whenever I read a Marvel comic I would be ecstatic to see a girl heroine. Female superheroes enable girls to feel more confident and powerful as well as take charge and gain leadership skills.

The truth is, how roles are portrayed in media can impact how they are viewed in society. It s important that diverse roles are shown positively in media as they help inspire those that relate to them.

Imagine looking at the TV and never seeing anyone that looked like you? Sadly this is the reality of many.

When people see themselves on tv they believe they are worthy and they are capable of doing amazing things. Many people feel insecure about their race, appearance or other factors.

Because of the lack of diverse roles, they never had a role model to lift them up however foundations like alliancePND are working to improve that.

Seeing a wide variety of races, genders, ethnicities and cultures represented in media positively is critical to learning to celebrate diversity.

All people have a combination of all five categories in their personalities which shapes who you are.

The different personality types can help us understand us can make us find what we like and what we are good at, but it can hurt us because we may be more of one thing and that we have to be what people think we are. t can help us understand other people by seeing what they are, but it can make us rank people on the different scales that they may not be.

The five personality traits are Openness, Extraversion Conscientiousness, Agreeableness, and Neuroticism.These traits help us to find what we are good at and what we need to work on. “We are all a mixture and a balance of these five personality traits. t also means a lot to me and my family. A lot of people that grew up with were part of the LGBTQ A. For example, my oldest brother is gay, and being younger was surrounded by people who were part of the LGBTQ A community learned to see them as just humans and not judge them for having different opinions .People should respect your opinions on what you like and whom you want to associate with.

But how can we fight against gender stereotypes? By being more aware of them and calling out the gender stereotypes, we can stop gender stereotypes by not saying them, it’s good to show ourselves to people to show their uniqueness of themselves. t was important to show representation in ourselves to make welcome to different opinions and ideas, to have every aspect of people's identity.

Gender is actually a social system and many people give their own opinions toward the topic gender and it is changed due to social systems. Here is another important point that affects many many many people who are a part of the LGBTQ+ community. People cannot control if they feel like a man, woman, neither or whatever but they are still judged off of the fact that they are different than most people.

Some religions cannot accept that and even worse so, the parents. According to ( The Cost of Coming Out: LGBT Youth Homelessness Lesley University ) 1.6 million people who are part of the LGBTQ community were kicked out based on their part of the community. Imagine being kicked out because of your gender.

When you were very young and because of something you cannot control. Fair? I think not.

I am a white cisgender male who is straight.

Also known as the most unfairly privileged people in the world. Let's take the US presidents for example. There has NEVER been a woman president in the US and 44 out of the 45 were white men. That brings the stereotype that only white men can become presidents. This is how stereotypes are harmful to others.

So to answer the question How can stereotypes be harmful? Well, this is because some people may be grouped into a little thing where they are being labeled by others and not by themselves. They are being labeled by others which sometimes means bad things.

The others could call them names just because of who they are. For example: Oh, you are from Mexico? HAHA Trump won't let you into America. How can we fight against stereotypes? WHen you see others being labeled based on who they are, intervene. Ask them how they feel about those labels and if answered negatively ask why. Ask what labels they want and what labels they dont want.

Why does representation matter? If there was no representation of different people then they might feel alone. If they don't see themselves in big media such as superhero movies, music culture, news channels and other kinds of media, they might think that they can t become as successful and they are not as popular as the people in the media. They might not think they can be like the people in the media based of their gender, sex, sexuality and many other things.
