MY CITY: VERACRUZ

Hey, my name is Isabel, I live in the Puerto of Veracruz, the tourist attractions are the main thing to see here. It is a hot place where you really enjoy going to the beach.

I was born in Coatzacoalcos but since I was 3 years old I have lived here, I don’t know the place where but Veracruz is a very beautiful place.

HISTORY OF VERACRUZ

Historically, the city was founded by Hernán Cortés on April 22, 1519 with the name of “Villa Rica de la Vera Cruz”. The city is located in the region where the Spanish landed on the mainland to undertake the conquest of Tenochtitlan. In addition, he has received the appointment of Four Times Heroic by presidential decree, as a result of having faced four different foreign invasions.

LOCATION

Veracruz is located on the Atlantic coast, in the Gulf of Mexico. It borders to the north with the state of Tamaulipas, to the south with the states of Oaxaca and Chiapas, to the west with San Luis Potosí, Hidalgo and Puebla and to the southeast with the state of Tabasco.

Veracruz has an area of 71,699 km and around 7.3 million inhabitants, which is why it is one of the most populated states of the Mexican Republic.

ATTRACTIONS

Carnival

The most attractive thing about Veracruz is it’s Carnival two years ago it was not done been and this year they did. National and international tourists come. There are lots of beer, food, souvenir stands, party every night for 1 week.

It is a party that takes place every year for a week, the king and queen of the carnival are elected as well as children’s kings. Allegorical float rides, troupes and batucadas are carried out, approximately 5 km of walk are traveled. During the carnival it is very common to see people drinking beer and eating seafood. The tour starts from Manuel Avila Camacho Boulevard in Boca del Rio to the “Club de Yates” in Veracruz.

Santa Ana Festivities

It’s a party that has been celebrated since 1582 and takes place in Boca del Rio, a girl is chosen trough votes to be the “Doncella del Mar” and boy as “Tritón” who will accompany her throughout the party. The typical food is “Filete de pescado relleno” which breaks the record for being largest in the world. His record is 210 mts.

Zamora Park

The most famous park in the city is “Parque Zamora” this is located in the center of the city. Sometimes they put fairs It has a roundabout and in the middle there is a kiosk. There are many trees, squirrels that feed visitors and snack stands. It’s 200 years old located in that place.

FOOD AND DRINKS

Typical food

Veracruz gastronomy can be classified into four regions: the Huasteca, the central region, Sotavento and the Tuxtlas, which reaches the extreme south of the state.

Picadas Jarochas

The picadas are delicious, they are made from a handmade tortilla with corn dough, edges are made around and inside them, on top they have sauce that can be of different types, either red or green, onion and fresh cheese.

Pescado a la Veracruzana

It is one of the most important and wellknown dishes of Veracruz, it is a red snapper that is fried with a little butter, bathed in a tomato sauce with bell pepper, olives and capers, seasoned with different spices, served with rice white and with a mixed salad.

Arroz a la Tumbada

One of the most important in Veracruz, originally from Alvarado, is a mixture of rice, seasonings, onion, seafood such as shrimp, octopus, clam and crab, it is a delicious dish that is said to be the richest in the state.

Typical drinks

Torito de Cacahuate

Torito is a creamy alcoholic beverage with a peanut flavor. Being a mixed drink with alcohol (aguardiente de cane) it can be considered a cocktail.

Coffee

Veracruz coffee is the ground or grain product that comes from one of the coffee growing regions of the state. There are different varieties, sweet, caramelized, bitter, etc.
