Visual privacy occurs when workers feel they have privacy, whereas acoustical privacy protects information being produced within a space.

DESIGN INTENT The concept behind Verdure Beauty is the Pampass Grass Plant. Pampass Grass, a native plant to San Diego, grows wildly, since its seeds spread so easily. It is neutral in color, without any defined form. Embodying this idea, Verdure’s interior design is flooded with organic and curvilinear shaped furniture and lighting fixtures, and natural, but refined materials, such as wood and stone, to reflect nature. A balance between glossy and matte, and rich and neutral finishes blends lavish and natural design schemes. Unique, acoustical ceiling treatments and natural plant life is brought into the space to bring feelings of closeness and relaxation. Design philosophy is functional, simplistic, and cohesive.
DESIGN GOALS ~Create functional and exciting spaces that have natural plant life and abstract art placed throughout the office to inspire employees. ~Incorporate collaborative areas for employees to engage with one another, increasing creativity and social interaction. ~Design spaces and a layout to provide support spaces that allow employees to relax and refresh throughout the day. ~Implement means for furniture, lighting, and air ventilation to be completely adjustable to the user. ~Design spaces that are versatile, where furniture and technology can be easily re-arranged to evolve the companies ideas.

CONCENTRIC CONCENTRIC is an organic and modern representation that captures the contrast between nature’s innate complexity and simplicity all in one. When in use, the light spreads through the strategically placed wooden dowels creating a geometric, visual design similar to the way sunlight shines through natural vegetation on Earth. In nature the world does not stand still. Every moment and every minute things are evolving into something else. Plants grow into trees, trees become fallen monuments in the woods, and everything eventually returns to the dust that it originated from. To take pause in a world that moves too quickly, the Petra bench was created. This seat offers a space of repose for those in need of a break while tying into it’s natural origins through its material composition. The living greenery box, the reclaimed walnut slab, and the steel legs all represent a phase of creation that can happen through time.

MATERIALS USED: Glass panel re-purposed from an old table Shelving reclaimed from scrap yard Walnut plank found in the woods Pine planks reclaimed from scrap yard Patio table legs reclaimed from scrap yard Abandoned/out of season plants Already owned screws and velcro Old license plates Rustoleum black outdoor spray paint
DESIGN PROCESS 1-Patio table legs are cut to size using a circular hand saw. 2-Vice compresses the metal tubing on legs while level is used to ensure that piping will be even when used as support. 3-Hammer is used to remove any excess bumps that the vice created during compression. 4-Drill press is used to create pilot holes in the metal tube legs. 5-Newly refitted legs attached to walnut slab using a drill and screws. 6-Vertically oriented legs given extra support with horizontal secondary beam. 7-Pressure treated pine planks cut to size with circular hand saw and drilled together with screws and electric drill. 8-License plates attached to wooden box frame to create planter box base. 9-Patio legs are taped off and sprayed with Rustoleum to create clean appearance. 10-Shelving cut down to create legs for planter box and table. 11-New legs are drilled with drill press to attach to inside frame of planter box. 12-Table is secured to the bench with scrap wood and screws. 13-Velcro attaches glass panel to table legs.

DARA
A Celtic Knot is characterized by having a series of interweaving lines and points, never having one true beginning or end. It symbolizes continuity, binding, and infinite possibilities. One in particular, The Dara Knot, signifies strength, stability, and growth, serving as the inspiration for this bench. This knot’s design is shaped around the roots of an Oak Tree which symbolizes all the virtues embodied through the gift of wood. Dara is both functional and visually appealing for any indoor environment. The curvilinear shape of the seat back creates a feeling of connection between users, while maintaining a sense of visual separation and privacy. Beneath each seat is a drawer that provides additional storage. The Formica Laminates used not only enhance the overall design by its visually pleasing color and design, but also its durability and reliability for any setting.
