SOHOME is located in the Soho neighborhood of New York City. As a community based building, SOHOME consists of a public library, cafe, rooftop restaraunt and private educational sector. The design of this space was asked to reflect the culture of the neighborhood as well as the philosophical and educational policies of the city of New York.This design reflects the varied international diversity of the current neighborhood demographics with a global perspective and socially grounded idea.
CONCEPT ELEMENTS: - creating spaces that mimic walking down an alley or enclosed street - cut Out sections of floor between spaces that take up more than one floor to mimic height of skyscrapers - movement portrayed in shape of furniture, travel paths, etc. to mimic foot traffic in the city - historic detail - group gathering spaces to create community activity and encourage community socializing

NEIGHBORHOOD CONTEXT - Located in greenwich - Close to New York University - Near public parks - Located around many cafes and small shops along the street - Cast iron architecture DEMOGRAPHICS - Part of the historic district - Avg. age is 36 - Most people work white collar jobs - Soho consists of about 26 blocks and 500 buildings - Many chain outlets as well as boutiques and art galleries

DESIGN ELEMENTS: - grouped/individual, flexible seating options with an open floor plan - recycled wood, use of plants within space, motion sensored lights as well as flood of natural light - 5’ turn radius throughout, different height tables - two elevators access only to this floor and restaraunt above - main access through front doors, no access to education building - grand staircase used for lecture space
