Dear Resident, Isaac Regional Council would like to take an opportunity to update you on a number of major projects being delivered in Moranbah this financial year.

TOWN SQUARE RENEWAL PROJECT Council will be replacing the shade structure over the stage area in Town Square over the coming months.

The shade structure has sustained long-term structural damage as a result of storm and cyclone level events.

Council has taken the decision to remove and replace the structure for safety reasons.

Interim measures have been taken to reinforce the structure, including the installation of additional support posts.

As a further safeguard, residents may have noticed the area is also being fenced off prior to any impending storm events.

The structure will be removed in late November 2018 and a replacement structure will be installed by April 2019.

MORANBAH COMMUNITY UPDATE

MILLS AVENUE UPGRADE Council will be rehabilitating the east and west bound lanes of Mills Ave between Moranbah Access Rd and Griffin St from April 2019.

The road surface will be milled and replaced with a 50mm asphalt seal to improve road surface quality and longevity. Improvements to sub-surface drainage will also be undertaken to improve the resilience of the road.

Lane closures and traffic control will be in effect during the works and Council appreciates the patience and consideration of motorists whilst these improvements occur.

The project cost is approximately $860,000, which is being funded under the Australian Government’s Roads to Recovery Program. Further improvements are planned for Mills Ave, east of Griffin St are planned for 2019-20.

BELYANDO AVENUE / GRIFFIN STREET FENCE REPLACEMENT Council is progressing the replacement of the temporary shade cloth fence behind Town Square businesses in Griffin St and Belyando Ave with a permanent solution.

February’s storm event. Replacement of the wall was delayed due to the processing of an insurance claim for the damage to ensure ratepayers were not disadvantaged.

BACON STREET REVITALISATION

Council has identified a preferred construction solution for the new wall, which will provide screening of the parking/utility area behind Town Square businesses, whilst also considering the security concerns expressed by business operators.

The ageing building is in a poor state of repair and restoration of the existing structure was not economically viable.

The “Vogue Wall System” is a modular fencing solution which provides a visual result similar to that of a block wall. Council has consulted on the final design of the wall with Town Square business operators.

Construction of the new wall will occur during the December/January school holiday period to minimise disruption.

Council will be demolishing the former Lion’s Den building in Bacon St during February 2019.

Once the removal is completed, the Moranbah Men’s Shed will take over the site and construct a new community facility for its activities.

The group was granted a leasehold over the site following an expression of interest process earlier this year, which also ascertained interest in refurbishing or removing the existing building.
