Clermont Remembrance Day Service - Lionel Duck, Clermont RSL Sub Branch President David Ward and Gordon Murray
Remembering the fallen RSL contingents of Nebo, Moranbah and Clermont led commemorative services on Thursday November 11, to remember fallen men and women in conflict past and present. At 11am, community members joined with RSL representatives, ex-service men and women, police officers and elected members in one minute’s silence at local cenotaphs. Clermont RSL Sub branch President David Ward said it was a solemn occasion, a day we respect lives lost for our country. “Remembrance Day means so much to me personally and to our community,” he said. “Many of us know families of these fallen service men and women, or are affected by current conflicts abroad.”
“It’s important we pay our tributes respectfully,” he said. Isaac Regional Council Mayor Anne Baker said she honoured the meaning of Remembrance Day. “Remembering shows the deep respect we have for our countrymen and women and what it means to be an Australian,” she said. Remembrance Day services were held at the Moranbah Town Square Cenotaph and Clermont Cenotaph at the Civic Centre. The Clermont Historical Centre’s exhibition ‘Anzac Heroes and Heroines’ showcasing local relics and stories to celebrate the Anzac Centenary is still on display, open Wednesday to Saturday 9am to 3pm.

Leaders look at key priorities for Isaac More than 30 community leaders and representatives from across the region explored key priorities and issues for their communities at a forum hosted by Isaac Regional Council.
Isaac Regional Council’s Corporate Plan ‘Isaac 2020’ outlines priorities across five key themes; community, economy, environment, infrastructure and governance.
The forum follows 18 stakeholder sessions, drop-in sessions and Council information stands at events throughout October. Participants used learnings from the wider community to call on the draft Corporate Plan goals, strategies and to identify gaps and create recommendations.
“Our next step is to collate the results and then we will be reporting back to the community in the new year.” For more information visit www.isaac.qld.gov.au
Mayor Anne Baker said there was diverse representation, great discussion and a strong sense of community. “Our community leaders and representatives are committed and passionate about the long-term future of our communities. “We all know by working together we’ll get a better outcome for our region.” The feedback from the wider community and leadership forum will help make strategic recommendations to Council to include in the Corporate Plan. “Council strives to deliver programs and services the community can enjoy and be proud of. “Our aim is to provide a 5 Year Corporate Plan that reflects community aspirations and priorities,” she said.

Beyond the Goal Posts contributed by Sarah Cook
On Friday November 13, Clermont hosted the Beyond The Goal Posts dinner with Wayne Bennett and Craig Hamilton as guest speakers. The dinner side of the event was sold out a month before so we made the decision to open it up for people to attend and just listen to the men talk. People travelled from Mackay, Rockhampton, Cunnamulla, Blackall and Emerald - with a total of 350 plus people attending the event, which was much bigger than we had ever anticipated.
We also made the decision that all the money that came in from people who attended the event just to listen to the men talk would be donated to the Tie Up The Black Dog (TUTBD) committee. The TUTBD committee is run by 3 ladies south of here who give their heart and soul to raise awareness about mental health, especially in rural communities. They rely totally on grants and donations to enable them to continue their work.
We have been flooded with messages from people who enjoyed the night and got something out of it, which for us has been very rewarding. You never know how people are going to accept or respond to an event of this kind. Our goal was to shine some light on mental health in a relaxed environment and help break down some of the stigma that surrounds it. Hopefully we have done that.
We want to thank our sponsors, community and friends who all supported us in making this event such a success. Kindest regards Jeff and Sarah Cook
We had a number of people ask us what we were raising money for by running the event. We never ran the event as a fundraiser. We wanted to share Craig and Wayne’s message with as many people as possible without people having to dig deep into their pockets at a time which is financially tight for many. However in saying this, there were a few community groups that we tendered jobs out to. This was a win/win because it took some of the work load off us, while still benefiting locally.
Craig Hamilton, Jeff Cook, Sarah Cook and Wayne Bennett.

Fuzzbook contributed by Sarge Well what a weekend. We went from listening to the super coach, (or his brother, whichever ones the more talkative fella), to the Clermont Races and then to a lazy hot Sunday afternoon. Needless to say the lazy Sunday afternoon was directly related to how many cold drinks some people had on the Saturday to combat the hot and dusty afternoon. I must say that I was impressed with the level of fashion on the day and for once that most of the fashions lasted through to the nightime so it looked like a very classy nightclub crowd. One young fella tried his luck at trying to buy grog underage at the races but unfortunately for him plenty of people knew how old he was. Another bloke who had been cut off due to his level of inebriation could not hold out on the ban and swiped a mate’s beer and drank it. He incidentally put his hands up and kicked himself out, Paul Hogan style. Later on in the evening a young fella tried to get into Grinders, with someone else’s licence. Just a hint on this one, not everyone in Clermont looks alike, granted there are some big families, but a photo tells a thousand words, one of which is trouble. Staying on the night not too many dramas. One young bloke from Capella decided to urinate on the street in front of the Commercial Hotel, while the police car was approaching. $130 later he apparently had learnt his lesson. Couple of young bucks the night before decided to drink while walking up the street. $113 fines for each even though one of the blokes had Ginseng in his drink, that’s right it was a herbal remedy that promotes wellbeing and cognitive function, except the vodka in the drink causes your mouth to run off and get yourself into all sorts of strife, doh! All in all lots of fun had by everyone including myself looking at a young bloke offering a piggy back to a young lady to ease her weary and sore feet. She duly went to jump on his back,
pushed him instead of grabbing on and caused the young fella to face plant quite hard into the footpath. He was OK but I don’t like the young ladies chances evermore of getting a free ride. Towards the end of the evening a lot of D & M’s occurring (deep and meaningful) between couples up and down the street which were usually along the lines of the lady saying I want to go home and the bloke saying I want to stay and drink with my mates. Fellas a bit of matrimonial advice on this one, mates are easier to deal with if you snub them, they will get over it and have a beer with you another day, so go home with your significant other (who will not be so easy to deal with) and try not to dig your heels in or draw a line in the sand or similar rubbish. For more information on this I would invite everyone to look at the YouTube clip “Its not about the nail”, watch it and you will understand. On the administration front can everyone when they read this check their Weapons Licence expiry date. Clermont Police are currently inundated with tasks to retrieve unlicensed weapons because a lot of people are letting them run out. It is no excuse because you did not get something in the mail, check them and for the loving wives that seem to do all the admin on the farm, please check hubbies licence and your own. The renewal process is so easy now but if you have to start from scratch it is quite arduous. I will have the pleasure of addressing the High School Awards day as the High School P&C President before you all read this so I hope to catch up with lots of proud mums and dads on the day. Anyway until next time The Sarge.

It targets strength building and muscular endurance. An exercise ‘circuit’ is one completion of all prescribed exercises in the program. It is highly enjoyable and recommended to all levels of fitness. Lets lift circuit Resistance Circuit works on the principle of Circuit Training with stations broken down into a lower and upper body weights workout, using the subscription of low weights high repetition to develop a challenging total body workout, ensuring lean muscle mass gains. Metafit This is a 30 minute bodyweight training system that gets results! It is a functional and effective, metabolic workout that will change the way you train. Created by a former Royal Marine Commando, Metafit combines the latest HIIT techniques with traditional ‘old school’ bodyweight exercises to set the metabolism on fire!
