Make your bid for a better Isaac If you have an idea to help make Isaac a better place to live, work and play, Isaac Regional Council would love to hear from you. Council is encouraging residents to submit Community Budget Bids for the 2016-17 financial year, which will assist funding decisions across the region. Mayor Anne Baker encourages residents to participate in the process to inform Council of their ideas prior to formation of the 2016-17 Budget. “Receiving resident input as to how Council can better serve the needs of our communities is an important part of our budgeting process,” she said. Community Budget Bids will remain open until Monday February 1, 2016. Community Budget Bid forms can be downloaded from www.isaac.qld.gov.au/budget or obtained by visiting your local Council office. Council also provides assistance to community groups and organisations through its Community Grants Program. More details are available at www.isaac.qld.gov.au/isaac-community-grants. Student’s deck Clermont’s Christmas Tree You may notice there are a few new decorations on Clermont’s community Christmas Tree this year. Council’s ‘School Christmas Decoration Project’ has given students from Clermont State School, St Josephs, Kilcummin and Mistake Creek an opportunity to get creative and deck the Christmas Tree with creative flare. The students have enjoyed being part of this project involving coreflute decorations and plenty of Christmas cheer. If you haven’t seen the tree yet, it is glittering in Rose Harris Park. Council wishes to thank all the students who participated and to Clermont Council Staff who had the enjoyable task of decorating the tree.

Ball raises nearly $40,000 to help end domestic violence Mayor Anne Baker’s Charity Ball for White Ribbon has raised $39,946 to help end domestic violence proudly supporting White Ribbon. Mayor Anne Baker said she was overwhelmed by the support and is proud that Isaac communities will directly benefit. “Fifty percent of these funds will be held in the Isaac Regional Charity Trust to support local domestic violence services. “The ongoing deaths of women and children in our communities as a result of domestic violence are tragic and unacceptable,” Mayor Baker said. “I am incredibly grateful to be able to host this event and make a positive contribution towards White Ribbon Australia’s campaign to prevent men’s violence against women.” “This outstanding result would not have been possible with the support of our generous supporters including platinum sponsors Arrow Energy, BMA, BMC, Brown and Bird, Dyno Nobel, and King and Company, our gold sponsors Civeo,
Glencore, the Black Nugget Hotel Motel, Coates Hire and the Daily Mercury, and our Silver sponsors Create-a-sign, Anglo American, Moranbah Community Workers Club, Q Coal, Wilson Ryan Grose and AECOM.” “An enormous thank you to the event organisers, volunteers and Isaac Regional Council staff, who made it all happen.” Guest speakers Minister for Women, Shannon Fentiman and White Ribbon Ambassador Mick Doleman encouraged more than 250 guests to stand up, speak out and act to prevent men’s violence against women on October 31. Through primary prevention initiatives and an annual campaign, White Ribbon Australia seeks to change the attitudes and behaviours that lead to and perpetuate men’s violence against women, by engaging boys and men to lead social change. The stylish evening under the stars included a three course meal, live entertainment by Mezzanine, raffles, charity auction and dancing in Moranbah Town Square.
Think twice about giving a puppy this Christmas If you are thinking about giving someone a surprise puppy this Christmas, Isaac Regional Council wants you to think twice. Chief Executive Officer Rod Ferguson said pets shouldn’t be bought on a whim; they are a decision to be thought through. “Puppies are not for impulse buying, they are a lifetime commitment and require personal and financial investment,” he said. “First consider whether you’re at the right stage in life to be a caring and legally responsible dog owner.” “A lot is involved and everything you need to think about is available on our website.” Council’s pre-puppy guides outline what to consider before bringing home a four legged companion, available online at www.isaac.qld.gov.au/animals As an alternative to a new puppy, Council also encourages residents to consider rehoming a dog through the Paws from the Pound Program.

Isaac seeks clarity on federal priorities With water security a serious challenge across the nation, Isaac Regional Council is baffled their bid for federal funding missed out.
“On behalf of our communities, it’s confusing that an application of such critical nature has missed out, particularly when water security is a national priority.”
Isaac Regional Council Mayor Anne Baker said she has sought clarity from Federal Member Michelle Landry on Council’s unsuccessful $3.5M application to the National Stronger Regions Fund.
“We will continue to seek answers as to why the application was not approved,” Cr Baker said.
“The project would deliver a new ground level reservoir to increase Moranbah’s current water storage from a one day contingency supply. Mayor Baker said this application is about providing essential water infrastructure that every community needs. “We need enough storage capacity to safeguard Moranbah’s water supply.

Children love Baby Bounce, Storytime and Craft and Rhymetime Have you recently moved to Clermont with a young family and want to meet other young families. The Clermont Library runs several weekly children’s sessions and these sessions are a good way to connect with parents and young children. Bookings are essential please phone 4983 4746 or email Clermont.Library@isaac.qld.gov.au Rhymetime is held from 9.30am to 10am every Tuesday for children up to five years old, where they can sing and dance to nursery rhyme songs. Baby Bounce is held on Thursday from 9.30am to 10am and is aimed at children aged up to two years. Baby Bounce is a chance for parents to interact with their child through movement, music and song. Storytime and Craft time for the littlies is held at the Clermont Library every Friday from 9.30am to 10.30am and caters for children up to Prep age.
Playgroup If you have children under 5 and would like to get out and meet other mums and children, you are always welcome at playgroup on Wednesday mornings (during the school term) at 9.15am in the Clermont State School Hall. On the Shelf The Great Marshmallow Structure Challenge Thursday A recipe for fun: Take 20 pieces of uncooked spaghetti, 1 metre of string, 1 metre of masking tape and give to a group of children. Set the stopwatch and tell the children they have 20 minutes to build a tower from the spaghetti, string and masking tape to support a marshmallow. Children can work as a group or individually and the winner is whoever builds the tallest tower to support a marshmallow but towers must remain upright. The Great Marshmallow Structure Challenge will be held at the Clermont Library on Thursday December 17 from 11am to 12pm and is aimed at children aged from eight years. Bookings are essential. Alternative worlds to discover at Summer Reading Club Isaac Libraries will be participating in Summer Reading Club 2015 and encourage young adventurers to sign up for the Summer Reading Club. Summer Reading Club 2015 started on Tuesday December 1, 2015 and will continue until Sunday January 31, 2016. The theme for Summer Reading Club 2015 is Lost Worlds where young adventurers can explore underwater worlds or alternate universes or encounter mythical creatures or dinosaurs.
OzoBots sessions Santa may be having a few requests for OzoBots on Christmas wish lists. OzoBots are small robots that can teach children basic programming using simple codes. OzoBots can identify lines, colours and codes on digital surfaces such as Ipads or paper surfaces. Using thick felt pen markers in specific colours, children can create and draw a coded track on paper for the OzoBot to follow. An app can be downloaded on an Ipad to create a coded track for the OzoBot to follow. The Clermont Library is holding OzoBot sessions on Tuesday January 12 and January 19 and Thursday January 14 and January 21 from 9.30am to 10.30am. CLASS DESCRIPTION Gut and Butt Blast is a target class that focuses on strengthening and toning the nine core divisions of the abdominal plane. While simultaneously blasting the three muscles of the buttocks, hamstrings and quadriceps. This will increase fat metabolism at rest and help slim and tone those problematic areas. Although not targeted, general whole body conditioning applies and while challenging, is more than suitable for any fitness level. Boot camp Boot camp is a type of outdoor group class that mixes your traditional calisthenic and body weight exercise with interval and strength training. Our boot camp incorporates; tyre flipping and throwing, battle rope work, kettlebell, fence climbing and much more! It is a work at your own pace
class, designed to be challenging whilst also having fun! Circuit training This is a form of body conditioning or resistance training using high-intensity/ low-intensity aerobic energy. It targets strength building and muscular endurance. An exercise ‘circuit’ is one completion of all prescribed exercises in the program. It is highly enjoyable and recommended to all levels of fitness. Lets lift circuit Resistance Circuit works on the principle of Circuit Training with stations broken down into a lower and upper body weights workout, using the subscription of low weights high repetition to develop a challenging total body workout, ensuring lean muscle mass gains. Metafit This is a 30 minute bodyweight training system that gets results! It is a functional and effective, metabolic workout that will change the way you train. Created by a former Royal Marine Commando, Metafit combines the latest HIIT techniques with traditional ‘old school’ bodyweight exercises to set the metabolism on fire! Open gym This is your opportunity to use the Gym facilities, there will be a basic weights program and WOD on offer for your utilisation, or you could just be creative and do your own training. THUMP boxing is a moderate to high intensity cardio boxing class. This class is specifically effective in defining the body’s musculature, while improving balance, flexibility, and co-ordination. The cardio component uses the body’s energy systems and improves your ability to use oxygen, helping you to work harder for longer and burn fat in the process.
