CLERMONT RAG Community Newsletter Friday September 9 2016

Look out for rates notices arriving soon Keep an eye on your letterbox with rates notices set to arrive shortly. Chief Executive Officer Gary Stevenson PSM said prompt payment of rates will secure a 10 per cent discount, if paid before Wednesday October 5. “Rates, collected from more than 10,000 Isaac properties, will help Council deliver essential services and capital projects. “These include maintenance and upgrades to local roads and water infrastructure to resource recovery, public facilities and much more. “For a great overview of how your rates are spent, check out the ‘Where Do My Rates Go?’ factsheet included in your rates notice. “You can also view Council’s new capital works expenditure in the 2016-17 Budget on Council’s website.”

Council rates and charges that remain unpaid after October 5 will incur 11 per cent interest per annum, compounded daily. The 10 per cent discount applies to general rates, and excludes all special rates and charges, provided outstanding amounts and overdue rates and interest are paid in full by the due date. If you have not received your rates notice by September 19, please contact Council. Ratepayers can register their details and speak to Council’s Rating Team by phoning 1300 ISAACS (1300 47 22 27) or email records@isaac.qld.gov.au between 8.30am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday. To view a full breakdown of rates categories please view Council’s 2016-17 Budget – Connecting Our Communities at www.isaac.qld.gov.au

Ratepayers who have encountered delays with the postal service in their area can register an email address with Council. “Council is happy to help by sending an additional electronic copy of your rates notice to a nominated email,” said Mr Stevenson. “It’s important for ratepayers to update their postal details with Council to ensure rates notices arrive on time. “Some financial institutions can take up to three working days to process an electronic payment. “So please check with your bank or credit union to ensure your payment is received by Council in time to secure your discount.” Anyone wanting to prepay their rates notices is able to do so through the normal payment channels, and can contact Council’s Rates Officers to receive advice on the estimated amount.

Local bartender supporting an U.G.L.Y. cause contributed by T’aire Olsen - Leukaemia Foundation

A local bartender is hard at work raising money for the Leukaemia Foundation’s U.G.L.Y. Bartender of the Year competition. Participant Erin Faith said she is raising funds for U.G.L.Y. bartender of the year competition – however is quick to point out it is a different type of ‘ugly’ - Understanding, Generous, Likeable You’, to be precise. Erin is part of an elite group of bartenders who are battling it out until September 12, to be crowned UGLY Bartender of the Year in a competition raising money for the Leukaemia Foundation. The funds will be used to provide free accommodation for regional families who need to relocate to support loved ones dealing with leukaemia and other related blood disorders.

For more information, contact the Clermont Hotel-Motel on 4983 1815. To sponsor Erin visit www.uglybartender.org.au The Leukaemia Foundation is the only Queensland charity dedicated to improving the lives of blood cancer patients and their families and receives no on-going government funding. In addition to investing in research towards finding better treatments, the Leukaemia Foundation supports blood cancers patients and their families by providing a range of free support services such as accommodation during cancer treatment, transport, emotional and financial support and education.

The Clermont Hotel-Motel are hosting raffles every Friday night at 6.30pm with plenty of great prizes up for grabs!!

Well a hello to everyone. Some 21st party goers found their stereo switched off the other weekend. Everyone should be aware that modern noise abatement laws call for up to a 96 hour ban on loud music and voices, if police get called and the noise emitting from your premises is excessive. If the music goes up again within the period nominated your stereo can be seized and the person receiving the original direction will end up in court charged with disobeying a police direction. The normal fine is around $400 to $500 but I have seen them as high as $700. So be respectful of your neighbours and keep the noise to acceptable levels. Road safety week went well in the ‘Mont’ but two drink drivers were located who should have known better. There are courtesy buses and everyone can just about walk home or get a lift with someone. Incidentally we had 9 winners from the State School and St Joseph’s for being caught doing the right thing on the way to school during Road Safety Week. They are true Road Safety Warriors. Some drug searches netted drugs, firearms and associated material over the last couple of weeks.

It was disappointing to see ice involved but with these modern times it was inevitable. These two persons will be facing court in December on several charges. If you have information concerning drugs in town and who may be wheeling and dealing ring Crimestoppers and tell somebody. We can use that information to make your community safer. So ring 1800 333 000 and dob in a druggie. But just the facts not speculation. We will continue to do drug searches and hopefully hold back the tide. Remember though liquor or grog is just as bad when taken in excess and is regarded as the worst drug of choice. It is legal but moderation can always be applied. A vacuum cleaner has gone missing from the pool which was moderately expensive. Anyone hearing of this particular theft please ring the station or police link on 131 444 if you have any information. The station number is 49834 444. If it doesn’t answer leave a message as we are more than likely out and about. Anyway that’s it for today and see you around the region. Until next time the Sarge.

Firstly a big thank you to all our parks and gardens people. Our town looks wonderful, with all our recreational areas looking a million bucks. I went to the museum, tourist centre a few weeks ago and was just so impressed. I haven’t been for 10 years probably so you can imagine the change I saw. It would be a perfect place to hold any sort of function and if you have a spare hour please go and take a look. You won’t be disappointed. Isaac... helping to energise the the world world

We have a star weaving station set up for people to drop in and weave a star from ribbon. The stars are symbols of light, courage and solidarity to end all forms of violence, including violence against women, bullying and racism. Isaac’s goal is to weave 10,000 stars to contribute to the display at the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast. All stars created will be on display at Isaac Libraries until July 2017 before being added to the display for the Commonwealth Games. What is a Zentangle? Producing a piece of Zentangle art will be one of the children’s craft activities held at the Clermont Library during the school holidays. All sessions are limited to 15 children and bookings are essential. History books for sale The Clermont Library has some history books relating to Isaac, for sale.
